”Where are you going now?” a voice said from downstairs. Paengi stopped in his place, and looked down at the floor. Samuka was on the floor below, how did he know he was getting ready to leave? The voice came again suddenly. ”I know what you’re doing Paengi, you can’t hide it. Ever since you got back from the temple you’ve been getting ready to go somewhere.” Paengi nodded, surprised the old leader had figured it out so easily. ”But where…” Samuka quietly said.
Paengi shook his head, thinking of the temple and the map. And the gem. ”Well, where I found the temple… there was a map,” he said. He still could barely believe the map. Somehow almost every spot on it was still the same, the grove, everything. Except the warrior caste domes, the place he was now. ”And. I think it showed the location of another temple,” he admitted, grabbing his gear. ”I can’t help but wonder… If the first temple had the gem, what could the second hold? It has to be something that can help us. I mean, just that gem is apparently what we need to make the- well, the one dome- work." He could almost hear Samuka nodding, knowing he was agreeing with what he said.
”What do you hope to find?” he asked, causing Paengi to freeze in place once more. What did he hope to expect? He thought back to the gem, then the… the weird place he had been in. Though he hadn’t mentioned it to anyone else, that creature and the location were stuck in his head. He need to find out more, what that thing was.
”Well…” he started, well starting to become a trademark of his. ”Maybe another gem? I mean, there is something weird about the one I found. It can’t be the only one like it.” He remembered the moment he was holding the gem to the light, and it was like he was sucked in. He didn’t think he would be seeing the same gem again, the team of namekians furiously studying it to try to manipulate gravity having it held privately, but still. Would there be more gems, more locations that he would see? Was that blue thing the only one of it’s kind, or was it a whole race. He nodded, determined, as he reminded himself in his head where he was going. It was near the center of the grove, and he began walking downstairs.
”Can I ask one thing though?” Samuka continued, and Paengi held his breath. Did he somehow know about the creature that was - in the gem? He didn’t know why he was being so secretive about it, but something made him want to keep it to himself. Maybe it was just that the whole thing intrigued him so greatly. Whatever the reason, it certainly sealed his lips. ”Where is it? The second temple I mean. I’ll let you go by yourself if you want, but I can’t just help but wonder what the mystery with these ancient things are.” Paengi sighed with relief, feeling like he was a child sneaking out.
”You know the grove? It’s somewhere in that?” he said as he finally made the trip down the stairs. He saw Samuka deep in thought, before he nodded at Paengi and opened the door for him.
”Hmm…” he heard the warrior who was in deep concentration, his gears no doubt running. ”You don’t need any help, do you?” Samuka questioned. Paengi shook his head, wanting to go in private. He didn’t know what would happen if there were two of them when he got the gem- or whatever it was in this temple. If another person would stop the process, or even take Samuka instead of Paengi, he thought it best to go alone. ”Whatever you say,” Samuka said smiling. ”I’ll hold down the fort here.”
Paengi looked at the grove ahead of him. Usually it felt alive and full of energy, yet now it looked… disturbing. Whatever the reason for the change, he wouldn’t let it stop him. He wanted to know what temple rested here, needed to. He stepped forward, ready to plunge into the adventure.
A single cricket seemed to chirp as Paengi foraged through the oddly large grove. Was it always this large, he asked himself as he stared at the top of the trees. Before now it always felt like something small, now it seemed to be a massive jungle. He shook his head, a single drip of sweat travelling down his neck. He gulped, trying to push down the worry in his gut. No, there was nothing different about this place he decided as he continued to walk. A croak made him almost jump, as he found his foot landing in the wet, shallow bank of a river. ”Small grove my ass,” he thought to himself, trying to tell himself it was only a frog. ”More like a jungle…”
Paengi cried out as a leathery tail smashed into his leg and he fell to the ground. He looked in the river where a massive red eyed alligator stared him down. He kicked at it desperately, pushing himself back in the mud. He heard a loud growl as it charged at him with it’s short stubby legs. He turned around to stand up, trying to avoid the beast. He felt a set of teeth wrap around his leg, and they pressed downwards as green ooze crawled out of the wounds. He partially turned around, leg still trapped, and smashed his other foot down on the creature’s skull. Pain began to make him dizzy as the creature spun around in place, causing Paengi to smash to the ground. His fist pounded into the green primal thing, and he knew he had to do something. He at first thought of simply using his Ki to attack, when he had another thought. He closed his eyes, gulping as his leg was pulled partially down the attack animal’s throats, as he tried to concentrate. He found the spot, the technique seeming to be easier to use with each time he had to perform it.
Suddenly Paengi was in two spots, on the ground struggling with an alligator, and standing above the scene. While he tried to pull back away from the creature in one body, with the other he looked around for a weapon. Within a few moments of searching, a large knobbly stick revealed itself. He bent down grabbing it, and looked over the the massive reptile. He hoisted it above his head, then sent it flying at the primal foe. The broken off branch went straight into it’s eye, causing it to jump back in surprise. He quickly pulled both parts of himself together, now standing up at full power. It hissed at him before slipping back into the river. Looks like this was more like a jungle than it was supposed to be.
Paengi finally arrived at around the spot of where he was supposed to be. He looked about where it was, and couldn’t stand still. He was rocking on his legs, his weight shifting rapidly back and forth as excitement made him almost unable to stand still. This was it. Perhaps he would see another one of those creatures, or maybe even the same one. He wondered how it would respond, forgetting how mysterious and threatening its presence had been in his anticipation. He stopped walking, and decided he had to start looking for the symbol. Before it had been somewhat obvious once he was in the right spot, but he wasn’t so sure with the grove. There were no semi-elevated spots for the symbol here, so he couldn’t figure out where to even start. The trees couldn’t be the location, each being way too thin, and the ground was concealed with bushes. Perhaps- that’s when he saw it. A single rock was up ahead, the river curving around it. It was high enough of the ground, large enough for an entrance, and wasn’t too steep for the symbol.
He walked towards the bank, and floated off the ground before flying to it. He looked down at the water, making sure he was nowhere near it. He was okay with not fighting another large reptile again. He landed on what he now found to be a boulder, and began investigating it. His eyes scanned the surface, until there was nothing left on that side. He sighed, turning around and hoping it was over here. If not, he might just be out of luck on this. He breathed in, taking a breath to hope, and bent down to look. His hope started to fade away as more and more of the surface was revealed to be blank until finally- there. In the rock where the river rushed around it, a very faint shape was made into it. The warrior caste symbol. It looked as if erosion had almost completely destroyed it. If he had been a few years late searching for it, it might have well been invisible.
He slowly stepped down into the water, ice cold fluid of the rushing river surrounded his ankles, and he almost sank in the squishy mud. He put his hand on the stop where it was marked, and pushed lightly. There was a loud screeching noise as it moved slowly inward, before falling in a hole with a loud crack as the entrance obviously broke on the hard ground of the temple. Paengi lit up his aura, and peered down the gap as the sound of water pouring into the tunnel echoed loudly.
Making sure the drop wasn’t too high, Paengi slowly slipped in. He turned around briefly, seeing a dead end, and continued down the only path. Finally he arrived in what seemed to be the same type of room that the gem was in, though this time it was flood a few inches. He looked down at his feet, worried the river might destroy the inside of this place. After what felt like forever, a glowing orb of light appeared in the air. He let out a breath of relief, glad that these two temples were so similar. He looked up, and gasped as he saw it. There was another gem. He reached forward to grab it, before stopping. If there was another map in here too, maybe he could find even more of these! Who knew what kind’s of things the warrior caste could achieve with gems such as these, considering one might allow gravity manipulation.
He bent down knee deep in the water, and peered down at the floor. Yes! There was a map here too. As he began examining it, he felt a sense of disappointment as it seemed to be the same thing. As he searched, it revealed no new temples. Only the other one he had been in, and this one. He was about to stand up and grab the gem, when his mouth dropped. No. His eyes almost bulged as he stared at the location. It was in one of the hollows where the warrior caste headquarters were located. It was built underneath the storage dome.
Paengi shook his head as he stood up, scarcely able to believe it. Hopefuly it had remained undamaged and undisturbed, so Paengi would be able to find it’s gem and map. How many of these temples were out there wasn’t easily told, but he was sure to find them all.
Paengi tentatively grabbed the gem, nervous. He froze for a moment before smiling as he pulled it close. He suspected the same thing, and held it up to the light almost afraid. For half a second, he thought nothing would happen, before a beam of light shot into the gem just like last time. He looked at the symbol reflected in it, expecting the same odd symbol but instead saw something else.
Before Paengi could even question it, he was in the odd blue world again. He looked around, and felt the courage to call out. ”I’m… I’m back…” he called out the endless abyss around him, unsure of himself. Suddenly he heard a hissing noise, that seemed to travel around him. He shivered at the sound of it, before suddenly a scream tore itself from his throat. He grabbed his neck desperately, not knowing what to do.
A creature like what he had seen before, except black and with wisps curled around it was fixed in his vision.
