“No… No… NO!”
The scream of the agitated Doctor Breech echo through the nearly vacant laboratory. A pile of papers fly off of his desk as he slams his artificial hand onto it. The doctor breaths heavily as stares down at the ancient piece of paper that resides in his other hand. “This data is useless! This building was torn down years ago; there’s no possible way the final piece Resillium Core could be held there!” He gripped the paper tighter, crumpling it into an unreadable mess. The ball of what was once classified data fell out of Breeches defeated hand. He removed his cylindrical hat, sighing in disappointment. “So close, yet so very very far…” His brain-case bubbled in a depressed manner.
Suddenly, a loud beep came from a dusty computer in the far corner of the room. It was one he had paid little attention to since his rebirth, but it seemed to have something to say. Breeches brow raised in curiosity. He donned his hat once more, slowly walking towards the computer and flipping on the screen. He slowly read through the alert, and his eyes began to widen in excitement. The screen showed a map, with a single blinking light indicating it had found something of importance: in the last 300 days, an extremely high concentration of Resillium was being held in a large mansion located on one of the many Southern Islands. The mansion was owned by a woman known as Sodia; Sodia Chloe Ride to be exact. She was apparently quite the famous weapons developer, along with being the holder of her father's most prized possession: A chunk of refined Resillium.
Breech chuckled, walking away from the computer. ”Looks like things might be going my way for once!” He headed for the large steel door, and stepped out into the frozen wastes. He quickly took flight, heading for the Southern Islands with as much speed as his artificial body could muster…
In less than an hour, he landed in front of a large mansion that rested comfortably on the beach. One could tell from miles away that this place was inhabited by someone who adored technology. The place looked like one of those ancient Red Ribbon bases that were currently being utilized by the Blue Banner Army. It was like a fortress, and Breech was going to kill anyone he needed to acquire his prize.
Before he stepped inside, he pulled his sleeve up. The skin of Breeches forearm retracted, revealing a small compartment with a set of gold hoop earrings inside; Soufa’s favorite. He smiled as he equipped them. ”I suppose there would be no better time to test out my Combat Limiters than in a scenario where I would normally have no trouble.”
As he finished clicking the rings securely into place, he could feel his artificial energy drop to about half of its normal output. ”This should be more than enough power to deal with any defensive systems I encounter inside.”
He took a deep breath -though he did not need it- and stepped forwards. The Doctor raised his hand, charging up his violet energy beam. After a brief charging period, the faux-ki fires forwards, blasting through the wall of the mansion with ease.
Breech steps through the hole, and is greeted by the sounds of alarms blaring in all directions. Security Drones flew into the room, firing off entire magazines of bullets in mere seconds The mechanized doctor looked upwards, firing off quick eye-beams at the trio of drones, ending them quickly. The husks of the drones clanked to the floor, causing Breech to scoff.
”I certainly hope this isn’t the best Sodia can do…”
He scanned the room he was in, realizing he found himself in the foyer of this grand mansion. It would be difficult to find the core, but Breech had to presume the girl was smart; if she were, she’d probably leave the core somewhere highly guarded. Perhaps she had a special vault specifically to hold the immensely powerful rock? If she were going to put something like that in her home, it’d be kept below-ground.
His eyes filled with violet light as he stared directly downwards. He shot off a high-powered beam of energy, breaking through the ground below him with ease. He floated above the lack of floor, and slowly descended into the pitch-black basement. Quickly, he turned on his night-vision, but it seemed this room was entirely empty. ”Interesting,” he mused to himself as he floated around the room. Breeches best guess was that this room was a sort of “bait”, used to lure thieves and trap them. But he had to wonder... what was the trap?
Suddenly, the lights turn on. Some of the wall rips free of itself, shifting its form to reveal itself as some type of metallic, shape-shifting golem. It roared in anger at Breech, who simply floated there. His internal scanner revealed it was actually quite weak, but there was a chance this thing had some type of trick to it.
It glared at Breech, roaring once more as it unleashed a silver tendril towards the aged scientist. He narrowly avoided it, watching as it pierced the wall behind him! He stared at it intently, watching as it retracted into the body of the mechanical beast it came from. It was quite an intriguing piece of tech. It reminded him of the Bio-Warrior Contagion and his goo-like body, though it seemed to be more in control of its form compared to Contagion.
”Perhaps I can create something similar if I collect a sample…”
Breech rushed forwards, sending a flurry of fists in the mechs direction. The force of the Good Doctor’s blows dented the machines chest, but it quickly repaired itself. He continued to lay into it, but the strikes seemed to have no effect. The metallic monster retaliated quickly, turning his arm into a spiked club and swinging it directly for the doctor. Breech caught the incoming appendage with relative ease, but found it difficult to remove his grip. He struggled for a moment, before realizing his error. ”How foolish of me… His arm was spiked!”
The mechanized monster raised its arm up and began to swing it wildly, Breech still attached. The doctor groaned in annoyance as he began thinking up a solution. His eyes filled with violet light, as a beam of Ki severed the club-like hand of the creature, freeing Breech from its gooey grasp. The Doctor quickly removed the remaining spikes from his hands, brushing them off as if they were simple bits of dust.
The construct wasn’t done just yet however. Its hand had already regenerated, and it used the reformed appendage to try slamming the doctor into the concrete below. Breech hopped backwards to avoid the blow, his curiosity in the creature continuing to rise. ”It seems your liquid-metal form allows you to easily recover from any minor injury in mere moments.... But my next strike won’t be minor, I assure you.”
The construct roared in response.
”A poor choice of last words.”
Suddenly, two thick beams of Ki energy shot from Breeches eyes, piercing the constructs chest. It attempted to repair itself, but the immense Ki pouring from Breech was unending, making regeneration nigh-impossible. The Ki increased in intensity, enveloping the construct entirely. After a few moments, the flow of Ki subsided, revealing nothing remained of the machine. Breech sighed, floating back through the hole he’d made earlier to return to the foyer. ”How disappointing…”
Unbeknownst to the doctor, a single, squirming speck of liquid-metal slowly began to regenerate...
His feet clacked on the wooden floor as he landed softly. Thoughts began to race through his mind; where could the Resillium be?
”If going down won’t do me any good, I suppose I’ll have to up."
Breech slowly ascended the grand staircase. Each step he made activated another trap that had been set. Lazers, rockets, bullets, even poison darts! None of it affected the doctor, however. He simply ignored the onslaught of weaponry, climbing the surprisingly long staircase with a stone-faced expression.
After what seemed like hours of ascending, he finally reached the top; his clothes were covered in burns and holes, but he was unphased.
He turned, and saw a door all by its lonesome to the right of the staircase.
He blasted the door to smithereens.
The doctor walked through the smoldering doorway to find himself in a cozy bedroom. The window on the opposite side was covered by beautiful purple drapes; a color the entire room was practically drenched in. Breech let out a disgusted groan as he approached the bed.
”Sickening.”
He gripped the sheets of the neatly made bed, ripping them off completely. Underneath was what one would expect: A bed, minus the sheet. The Doctor frowned, apparently disappointed that there was no Resillium hidden beneath the expensive silk.
Suddenly, his scanner picked up a high power level creeping up behind him. The Doctor turned to see an interesting sight: The liquid-metal construct from before had repaired itself somehow, but this time it took the form of a humanoid, rather than a large amalgam of goop.
It spoke in a cold tone, resembling the one Breech had. ”It’s time for me to end this little charade. Invading Ms. Sodia’s bedroom is something I cannot tolerate from any intruder.” The silver construct raised his hand, and an orb of teal Ki crackled to life in its hand. ”It’s time for you to die.”
A bolt of Ki shot from the constructs hand, whistling through the sky, aiming straight for the doctors chest. It slammed into Breech, forcing him through the window from the sheer force of the energy. He landed with a -THUD- on the sand far below. Breech groaned in annoyance as he got to his feet. He looked down at his chest, noticing that sparks were coming from a newly opened wound where his heart should be. ”That won’t do…”
Suddenly, a loud crash came from the mansion. The liquid-metal construct crashed through the bedroom wall, landing on the beach a few feet away from Breech. Its eyes scanned Breeches wound, speaking shortly after it finished analyzing its data.
”My data reveals that you are inhuman; an Android. If I were aware of that beforehand, I would have aimed lower to hit your Power Core.” It raised its hand once again. ”I suppose I’ll just have to try again.”
”My apologies, but you won’t get another chance.”
The liquid-metal warrior shot another bolt of Ki, but this time Breech was prepared. He hopped to the left, narrowly avoiding the blast. It whizzed past his arm, slicing through his sleeve. Breech frowned, but the mechanized doctor had little time to assess the situation.
Soon after the first blast whizzed by him, another one was already on its way. This time Breech rolled out of the way, losing his hat to the Ki bolt in the process. He got to his feet quickly, feeling for his cylindrical headpiece that was missing. He frowned again; the loss of his hat was not something that he enjoyed.
With Breeches brain case revealed, the silver machine began to scan it. The machine spoke again, this time charging two bolts of energy at once. ”I see a new weak point has unveiled itself; I shall pierce your brain, and you will be forced to deactivate.”
The two bolts were launched from the liquid-metal warriors hands. These ones were faster than the last set, making them nearly impossible to avoid. Breech decided to take the attacks head-on.
He hopped into the sky, twisting his body so that the only thing that would be hit would be his left arm. The Ki bolts easily tore through the artificial arm like butter, removing it from Breeches body. The arm clanked onto the sand, sparks dancing around the now-exposed wiring. Oil began leaking from Breeches new, gaping wound; a signal that he would soon need to abort this mission.
Despite his major injuries, Breech showed no signs of worry. He quickly descended to the ground, giving his liquid-metal foe a furious glare.
”And here I thought I could collect some data from this bout. As usual, I am disappointed.”
The silver construct gave Breech a confused look as it spoke. ”What? Is this simply an exercise for you?”
”Not anymore.”
Once again, a familiar violet light emanated from Breeches eyes. it blanketed the entire beach in its incandescent light as the doctor began to supercharge his attack. The silver construct watched in awe; befuddled by the massive amount of energy that his foe decided to reveal only now.
In a flash, two thick beams of Ki fired out of the doctor’s eyes, blanketing the entire beach in Ki energy. There was nowhere his foe could have run to, so the machine was vaporized. A single, terrified scream was the only sound that came from the liquid-metal monster as it perished.
Eventually, the massive twin streams of Ki died down, revealing that most of the beach in front of Breech had become glass. Another casualty of Breeches attack was Sodia’s entire mansion. Nothing remained of the grand house, save for a smoldering ruin where it once proudly stood.
The doctor stolled through the ruins, doing one last sweep of the house before he took off. He estimated that even with his injuries he’d have over an hour of time left to search.
He scoured the ruins for what seemed like decades, finding nothing but rubble and burnt wood. He sighed in disappointment, but a glint in the corner of his eye caught his attention. The doctor walked towards a pile of rubble, pushing most of it aside to reveal an interesting sight: A briefcase, in excellent condition. Breech grabbed the case, eyeing it with interest.
”How in the world did you survive my attack?” He chuckled as he realized he was asking an inanimate object a question. ”No matter; we’ll unlock you at the lab.”
Breech took to the sky, making his way for the Frozen North; his home. In his haste, he’d forgotten to collect or at least destroy his own arm, leaving a small, sparking clue for the few curious minds that were searching for him…
Breech had finished repairs to himself in record time; fixing his punctured chest and replacing his missing arm in less than two hours. If he got any better, he might be able to do this on the field. He chuckled at the thought of repairing himself mid-battle, though in a way it might not be impossible. He’d have to look into the idea later; for now he had to crack into this briefcase.
He eyed the thing for a few moments, looking for some type of keypad or lock on the case somewhere. Despite being what seemed like an immensely important item, it had a simple latch to keep it from spilling its contents everywhere.
Breech opened the case slowly, revealing his prize: A laptop.
”...What?”
He grabbed the laptop’s lid, opening it quickly. There must be some clue on it somewhere, right? He searched the laptop for a few moments, eventually coming across a set of research logs by Sodia. He clicked on the most recent one and began reading. It was a surprisingly small log that read:
”Yes...Yes…YES!”
Breech cackled madly as he read the last few lines of the log. The pieces were slowly falling into place. All he had to do now was head to this “Katsu” fellows lab and snatch the Resillium from his hands!
The Doctor quickly departed once more, barely remember to close the door to his laboratory in his haste. It was time to search for the scientist known as @katsu ...
The scream of the agitated Doctor Breech echo through the nearly vacant laboratory. A pile of papers fly off of his desk as he slams his artificial hand onto it.
