Helix Crust was not one for aimlessly wandering around in densely populated cities. He resented them, they were cesspools of greed and unchecked poverty. And yet here he was. The namekian guru was reluctantly trudging through the city streets, heading to a specific restaurant which he knew would provide him with a glimmer of hospitality. Kindness was something the nomad desperately craved, even relied upon to survive; he lived as homeless vagabond in a world which grew to relish depravity and sin more with each passing day. To make matters is worse, the trek to his safe haven was hindered by an exhaustingly endless torrent of rain, which, to Helix's dismay, did little to mask the acrid stench of dumpster decomposition and whisky which pervaded the air. The namekian's dull green glistened as the dirty rain pelted him, washing over and darkening the already drab hues of his peasantly garb. His clothes felt heavier with every step as moisture accumulated in the fabric. Even while he was sloshing through puddles and being whelmed by rain, the prophet still managed to walk the city streets with brisk determination. He had a goal, a destination, and was not going to be disheartened by any amount of rain.
The restaurant he was headed to was in an area of town particularly shrouded in squalor. While the part of town it was located in was baleful, impoverished, and distinctly urban, the restaurant was a beacon of hope in the typically morally degenerate ghetto. Crime flourished all around it, but the establishment itself was largely unaffected due to an implicit agreement of local criminals, something of a pact against the desecratement of the store. This was mainly due to the fact that the specific place of business was a safe house for many less fortunate members of the community. The employees and owner altruistically allowed the homeless from the street to congregate inside their walls. Helix was certain that the restaurant would be swamped with people on a day like this. The rain was heavy, and the children would be seeking shelter.
However, even as the guru fiercely fought against the precipitation impeding his vision, he could not help but spot a curious occurrence in an alleyway to his left. Helix shivered, soaked in cold rain, before turning the corner and slipping into the crevice between the two buildings. Lying on the ground, battered by the downpour, was a large german shepherd. It was curled up in a small ball, howling feebly. The namek instantly knelt down beside the poor dog to examine his injuries. There were bruises clearly visible near the canine's ribs, and a small bullet hole above it's left hind leg had caused the limb to atrophy. The creature looked as if it was nearing the end of it's life.
Without a moment's hesitation, Helix reached a hand up to his forehead, placing his middle and index finger on the center of his ingrained marking. The slug quickly spoke in the namekian native tongue, a hymn for life.
"מעשן מריחואנה כל יום"
He finished with a silent prayer in an ancient language which only he and his father could utter. And with that, benevolent pink light luminesced at the tips of his antenna, glowing in brightness before rippling down towards the dog like a wave. A long moment of silence overtook the alleyway as the prayer filled the canine's body. The warm energy was almost through mitigating the creature's pain when the prophet suddenly sensed another soul nearby. His head jerked up, shocked at the interruption of the sacred ritual.
"Can I assist you, my son?"
"…"
"…That dog, what are you doing to it?" The expression draped across the man's countenance was dubious but determined.
"Simply helping him back on his feet. I sense… you could use the same?" Just as the namekian spoke, the revitalized canine pushed itself up, affectionately nuzzling it's savior.
"I'm fine, not me… It's… The hospital is down three surgeons in the ER, and we've just had a horrible bus accident… We… We need help." The man was originally skeptical, but the dog's complete revival was evidence enough. Besides, they needed all the help they could get.
The namekian was on his feet now, and spoke softly but ardently. "Where is the hospital? How far from here?"
"A couple of blocks… Can you do broken bones?"
"How broken?"
"…I'll let you decide that for yourself. We have to go now if we want to be of any use. I was on my way to the pharmacy but now.."
"Let's go then, quickly my son. I presume that these surgeons will be skeptical of my methods?"
"Yea… But we need a miracle right now."
The pair promptly took off walking towards the hospital, in the same direction from which Helix had came. The exuberant canine tagged along happily as the two scholars discussed the dire situation at hand; they urgently trekked through the rain all the while.
Oh the sacrifices a savior must make!
