After he had been beaten in the fighting club, Yocho decided to train again. He still didn't feel ready to go back to the New Turtle School, which was sad because he had gotten really used to training with Rische. But some things were more important. So he decided to go back to basics and train with his old friend Boshi. And when he said old, he meant it. This man had trained him for years when after he had gotten expelled from the New Turtle School. But when he started training with Rische, he kind of... Stopped training with him.
Yocho hoped that Boshi wouldn't be too mad about that. The last time he had even seen Boshi was just before he had first gone to the fight club.
Yocho walked around the slums, conserving his energy for when he started training. Finally, he saw Boshi. As soon as Boshi saw him, he punched him in the face.
That really hurt. "What was that for?!"
"Training."
"Who said I wanted training?!"
"Fine. I'll stop."
There was a long pause. Then -
"Of course I want training."
"Yeah. That's what I thought."
Another punch. But this time Yocho was ready. He grabbed hold of the punch and pushed him back. Yocho's hand was still on Boshi's fist. Boshi used this to throw Yocho over his head.
"Why now? I haven't seen you in weeks."
"Something happened."
"What?"
"I don't know. That's just it. I don't know. I don't remember."
"You found the Turtle Hermit. What did they do to you?"
"Nothing. At least, I don't think she did anything."
Boshi grabbed Yocho by the shoulders and pushed him into the wall. Yocho couldn't move. Boshi jumped back and started to throw an energy beam at Yocho. Yocho started to move just in time, ducked and rolled to the side.
The beam missed him.
"You're afraid."
"You know I only use energy if I have to.
Boshi threw another, smaller energy ball at Yocho. This time it hit.
"Liar! You've wanted to learn the kamehameha for as long as I can remember."
Another energy ball. And another. And another. And another.
"You have to fight. You have to fight like you want to win."
Yocho was on the floor after being hit by all the attacks.
"I do want to win."
Another attack. Yocho fell again and was having trouble getting back up.
"Then prove it. If you don't start fighting like you normally do, I will kill you."
"I haven't had to use my energy attack in ages."
"Rische I assume?" Yocho nodded. "You stopped training with me and you were out all day. Who else would you train with? Rische was weak. I'll destroy you.
Energy ball. Energy ball. Energy ball. Energy -
The attacks stopped hurting. That meant his body was starting to numb. Boshi was telling the truth. If he kept this up, Yocho would be killed.
And when Yocho realised that, the adrenaline flowed and time slowed down. The energy balls looked hotter and even more powerful than normal. Yocho flew up high into the air in order to avoid it.
Boshi stopped for a moment and smiled to himself,
"So, he's finally fighting back." And Boshi started again, this time throwing the energy balls into the air.
Yocho could see them coming, though, and the height helped slow down the balls. He avoided all of them pretty easily and as he neared Boshi, he clenched his right hand into a fist and put it out in front of him. Boshi put his hands in front of his face. Yocho could see energy building inside his hands. This was a strong attack, not a weak one. But it was too late for Yocho to turn back and his fist his Boshi's hands, throwing Yocho into another part of the same wall he was thrown into before.
The wall started crumbling. The foundations were breaking. The building was falling. Boshi's attack was powerful, but up in the air, Yocho had started to get better, and the andrenaline that had engulfed Yocho was starting to disappear and he doubted he could do much to prevent the building from falling. So he crawled over to where Boshi was...
But Boshi wasn't there any more. Yocho looked around. The wall was still standing, but it was shaky. He looked down and saw Boshi standing with his back to it, holding it up. Yocho didn't realise just how powerful Boshi was.
But the wall started crumbling even more, and Yocho saw that Boshi was struggling to hold it up. Boshi was an old man. If the house fell, Yocho wasn't sure if he'd survive. So he had to take a chance. Boshi was right. For some reason, Yocho was afraid to use his energy attack. But he had to.
Yocho threw a large energy ball at the wall and shouted "Begone!". He didn't know why he needed to, but according to Boshi, it helped focus the attack or some weird thing like that.
The ball hit the wall right in the middle. The cracks were getting larger. In hindsight, maaaaybe this wasn't the best idea. But the cracks became a hole right in the centre, and that hole started getting larger. None of the pieces were falling on Boshi though. It was almost like the wall was... Disintegrating.
Finally, the wall was completely gone. And the house was still standing. Phew.
Although, now, Yocho and Boshi could see everything inside the house. And unfortunately, whoever made this place had decided that the bathroom should be on the side of the building Yocho could see.
A young boy, maybe about 10 was sitting on the toilet doing his business. He didn't seem to notice the wall was gone. The toilet covered everything, but Yocho still turned his head around. Boshi was already walking back to him. After a few minutes, Boshi tapped on Yocho's shoulder.
"You can turn around again." Yocho started to turn around again. The kid had his trousers on again. Phew. He turned around to flush the toilet, and noticed that the wall was missing. The boy turned around and ran without flushing.
Yocho sniffed the air and recoiled.
"Oh, god! How can something that smelly come from someone that small?!" But Boshi was already back at the wall and flushing the toilet. He got out a mini bottle of deodorant from his pocket and started spraying the whole area. When it was finally finished, he threw it on the ground and crushed it with his feet. Yocho didn't know why he kept it in his pocket when it had evidently been full when he first took it out, but Yocho was just thankful he did.
Suddenly, Yocho heard hulking footsteps coming from the house. A man was carrying the boy from before on his back and walked to the toilet. He sniffed the air and looked down at the toilet. He put his son down next to the door, patted his head, said something Yocho couldn't hear to him (though he guessed it was something to do with flushing the toilet, which the boy was falsely taking credit for he assumed), and placed him back on his shoulders. He looked at the wall, looked at Yocho and Boshi for a bit with hatred in his eyes, walked right to the edge of the wall, and stopped.
The man walked back into what was left of the house, his thundering footsteps somehow softer than before (though still deafening).
As the man left, Yocho considered what had just happened. The man looked familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it. Oh well, it probably wasn't important.
On that thought, the front door of the house burst open, with the man bursting out. He placed the child on the floor and pointed away from him. The child nodded and walked into the house. Yocho wondered why the man hadn't just jumped over the nonexistent wall when he had the chance.
Surprisingly, the man walked very slowly to Yocho. Nervous, Yocho quickly said,
"We flushed the toilet for you."
"In which case I am forever indebted to you. My son wouldn't flush the toilet to save his life." The man flashed a smile. He didn't seem that terrifying now he wasn't walking. "Greetings. I'm Loki." He stuck his hand out as a gesture for Yocho to shake it.
"Yocho." He took the hand and shook. But Loki had grabbed harder and started throwing him from side to side.
"You fool. Did you really think I'd let you off the house after you destroyed my house?!" Yocho was exhausted from being thrown about, but he managed to say (and very normally for being thrown about, if he did say so himself),
"Technically, it was only your wall." Loki growled, threw Yocho in front of him face up, and stepped on Yocho's tail. The pain was excrutiating, but he had just enough strength to point to where Boshi was.
Loki loosened his foot on Yocho's tail enough for him to realise Boshi wasn't there any more. Yocho realised Boshi wasn't there anymore, but Loki seemed to think he was still there and lifted his foot completely, giving Yocho the chance to pull back his tail and knock Loki over with his legs. Yocho towered above Loki and shouted at him,
"The wall was already crumbling! If I hadn't destroyed it, he could have died!" Loki grabbed his foot and pulled Yocho down on top of him.
"You think I care? My son will be forever wondering whether someone's watching him go to the toilet!" Loki punched Yocho hard and he flew back to a tree.
"Well, until you get a new wall, may I suggest doing what most people do and use a tree. On that note..." Yocho walked behind the tree, undid his fly and started going to the toilet.
Towering footsteps. Luckily, Yocho was just about done when he noticed Loki standing behind him. He gave Loki a little wave, and managed to pull his fly back up before Loki gave him another punch, this one harder than the last. Yocho fell just shy of where the wall used to be, and Loki fell the tree with one swift punch. Yocho dodged to one side and headed back over to Loki, but it seemed Loki had just tripped over where Yocho had done his business. Yocho ignored the smell and stepped on Loki's chest. Loki kicked him between the knees and Yocho fell down.
Loki stood up, sniffed, took off his shirt, sniffed again, and wrapped the wet side around Yocho's face. He then went back inside.
Drowned by his own stench. What a way to go. Yocho took the shirt off his head and threw it away just in time to see Loki come back in a complete change of clothes. Loki started with a punch and Yocho fell down again. He rolled away from the tree.
"We should really get away from this place."
"Agreed." Loki helped Yocho up and they moved slightly closer to the house.
"Ready?"
"Hold on." Yocho lied in the position he was in before and gave Loki a thumbs up. "Now I'm ready."
As Loki moved closer to Yocho, Yocho quickly jumped up and grabbed hold of Loki's head before sitting on it. Loki moved around trying to get rid of him, but to no avail. Finally, Yocho jumped off and punched Loki in the face. The blow knocked back Loki, but it wasn't enough to knock him out, and he only stumbled for a moment before recovering and reaching for Yocho's neck.
"Congratulations. Not many people can get a blow on me, but you've made me angry. And you might be the first person I've killed. Always wanted to know what that felt like."
Yocho felt it harder to breathe. Loki was squeezing harder, and Yocho knew that in a few minutes he'd be dead. And then Boshi came out of the house...
With Loki's son in hand.
The shock caused Loki to let go of Yocho and just stare. Boshi smiled.
"You lay a finger on my friend, your boy dies."
"No. No..."
"What are you doing, Boshi?!"
"Protecting you. A few years ago, you would have let him die."
"He's done nothing wrong."
"They've all done something wrong."
Loki just looked in horror as Boshi pulled out a knife from his pocket with one hand still on the boy.
"Fine. I'll leave. I'll pay for the damages myself. Please, just leave my boy alone."
"Too late."
"BEGONE!"
Yocho didn't have time to think. He had to save this child. The energy ball shot out from Yocho's hands, as fast as he could make it. Boshi pushed the boy out of the way and dodged the ball himself.
"You saved my child." Yocho ignored him, but noticed him running to hug the boy. Rather, Yocho looked at Boshi and folded his arms.
"You knew I'd do that."
"Of course."
The boy walked up to Yocho and tugged on his shirt.
"Have you seen my brother?" he asked.
"Your brother?..." Yocho took another look at the boy, then again at Loki. And he finally remembered why he looked so familiar. "You're Forthoone's brother." The boy nodded, then -
"I'm Leopold, but everyone just calls me Leo." Leo stuck his hand out for Yocho to shake. After the fight with his father, he was hesitant, but when he shook it, nothing happened. Well, he was only a kid. "So. Have you seen him?"
"A few weeks ago, yes." Leo grimaced.
"He's been missing for a few days. Him and my mum. I'm worried about them." Leo fidgeted with his fingers while saying this. Yocho patted him on the shoulder in comfort.
"You'll find them, I'm sure." Yocho neglected to mention that he had hated Forthoone when they first met.
Boshi walked up to the two.
"Not them. You." Yocho looked up at Boshi. "Think of it as my training to you. That, and fixing the wall you broke."
"You broke," Yocho said under his breath.
"Sorry?" asked Boshi, raising his eyebrows.
"Uh... Nothing."
"Good. Let's keep it that way."
Then, when Boshi was out of sight -
"He scares me."
"He grows on you."
"Umm. By the way, you really don't have to fix the wall." Leo scratched his head. "I kind of like it better this way."
"The toilet and all?"
"Especially the toilet. It's refreshing, you know?"
"Not really. I could've seen everything."
"I don't mind. You can see if you want." Yocho started backtracking towards Loki as Leo started lowering his hands.
"Please. No." Luckily, Leo only left his hands at his side.
"Ok," said Leo, and he walked happily back to his house.
Boshi came back to Yocho.
"Interesting kid, huh?"
"You can say that again. He just lost his family and he seems perfectly fine about it."
"We have different ways of dealing with grief. Besides, you're going to find them for him."
"Remind me why that is again?"
"It was the only way he wouldn't press charges against us for breaking his wall."
"So what now?"
"Work now," said Boshi and handed him some cement. "Good luck. You'll need it."
Yocho sighed and walked towards the broken wall.
