– “JIIRA!” – Nemo wakes up in a sweat, calling out his friend’s name. He breathes strongly; not because he was tired or severely hurt. Jiira’s attack only effect was to take him out without damage. He just didn’t know for how long he’s been out. Or the reasons that led Jiira to leave him unconscious. What was his former patrolman colleague intending to do? And why he wanted to leave Nemo out of this, when it was Jiira himself who contacted the Patrol and made a personal request that they sent Nemo for the Job? Things just weren’t adding up.
Nemo stands up finally. He starts tapping his clothes to clean the dirt. With his hands by his waste, he touches his belt bag and is suddenly stricken with a very bad feeling; that sensation of someone bringing your stomach out through your throat, which is also followed by a taste of rust. By palpating the satchel, he figures it was open. Nemo pauses for a moment.
– “No, he didn’t-“– He interrupts his own sentence, removing the pouch and frantically dumps its content on the ground. Where was it? He couldn’t have taken it… How could he even cogitate using something like that? Those were the questions that wouldn’t leave Nemo’s sanity alone.
If you have read the previous chapter of this story, you know what is missing from Nemo’s pouch is an Extinction Bomb. If you didn’t… well… then I just told you. Its lovely name already suggests what the little capsule does… It contains a deadly virus that can be set to any specific race. By pressing the switch on the capsule, it then releases the virus, selectively killing a whole population of life forms, while leaving all others intact. Only patrolmen have access to this terrible weapon and although they normally carry one with them, they are advised to refrain from using it due to its destructive potential. As Jiira is a former patrolman himself, he would know how to set the virus to contaminate only the chidaians, giving Zander and his folk a taste of their own medicine for what they were doing to the zumian people. If you consider karma, it’s the perfect punishment and it seemed Jiira thought so as well. But if you consider good sense, that was an abominable thing to do, no matter what. It was a crime and Nemo couldn’t let it happen.
Without any time to waste, a white-ish aura appears around the namekian’s body and he jumps, taking off to the skies in order to track his old friend down. Using his sixth sense, he could sense Jiira wasn’t far away. He was somewhere west of the greenie’s current location. Moving at full speed, the warrior couldn’t help but wonder what his friend was intending to do. Well… if he took such an item from Nemo’s possessions, then his intentions seemed pretty much clear, what would mean this story would pretty much end in a tragic upshot. Nemo hoped that there was something else to it; perhaps he would use it to intimidate King Zander… a small part of Nemo wanted to believe that one of the most honorable man he has ever met wasn’t inclined to becoming a mass murderer. He HAD to believe that. But then there was this bad feeling poking on Nemo’s sixth sense. Things weren’t adding up. Why would Jiira steal such a powerful and simply stick around? From what the namekian could sense, the zumian hasn’t moved since Nemo tracked down his energy signature. What was he waiting for? Perhaps he simply didn’t have the courage to do it yet? Nemo could only hope he would reach Jiira before he presses that switch.
His flight takes him to a rather remote mountainous area. His old friend was nearby. He scans the area until he finally sees the teal skinned swordsman near a cliff staring at the sunset. He had his back turned at Nemo even when the namekian landed a few meters behind him.
– "JIIRA!” – He yells to the ex-patrolman. The energy aura he had around him disappears as his feet touch the ground and he begins to march towards the warrior.
– “I see you’re finally up. I suppose you realize what I took from you as well by now” – Jiira states blankly, still with his back turned on his old pal.
– “This is not the way to do it… You’re not a murderer!” – Nemo tries to negotiate.
– “Cut the hypocrisy!” – The zumian raises his tone, now finally turning to the namekian.
– “I’m as much of a murderer as you are! Are you going to tell me you never killed a criminal before?” – He defies the namekian to deny it.
– “No… but it’s different…” – Nemo responds, trying to justify.
– “Different how? It’s a life anyway. And not only one!” – Jiira questions the namekian’s reasoning.
– “Seriously? You going to use that argument while holding a mass killing device in your hands that you’re planning to use? Who’s being hypocritical here? YOU cut the crap, Jiira!” – Nemo says, pointing his finger at the deidorian.
– “Heh… Unlike you I’m have no illusions concerning my sins. I’m just saying that you don’t have the morals to give me a sermon. We are all killers. And I will be the worst type of one, if I simply sit down and let Zander kill my folk like that. A passive murderer… for conniving with the chidaians. At least this way they will die a quick, painless death. A mercy we zumians weren’t granted by the ones you are trying to defend” – Jiira tries to justify.
– “It’s not that I’m defending them… this is wrong and you know it! Let me talk with King Lutuch… the Patrol won’t let he get away with this” – Nemo affirms.
– “Always playing by the rules and bureaucracy… I thought you were smarter, Nemo. I took you to the castle so you could see with your own eyes how much of a spark of sensibleness Zander has in that rocky head of his. You are either blind one want to be. Zander thinks the planet is his. Even if the Patrol was to arrest the man, what good that would do? Someone would take his place and it would only serve to antagonize a species that overwhelm us in health and force. What would King Lutuch do? Arrest an entire race? I must have been gone for a while, but I don’t think they have that many cells available” – Jiira concludes with a little joke; his words lean Nemo to figure out he was planning to get his hands on the bomb all along.
– “No, of course they don’t” – Nemo concedes; his inability to take things other than literally making him unable to perceive that Jiira was being ironical.
– “Heh… Still can’t get an irony, can’t you?” – The zumian notes.
– “Irony? This isn’t the time to be joking around, Jiira?” – Nemo scolds the ex-patrolman.
– “Joking? Do you really think I’m JOKING?” – The zumian seems to get angrier.
– “Calm down… Jiira… Let me help you. There’s got to be another way… give me back the bomb and we will figure out a way to heal you and make the chidaians compromise” – Nemo tries another offer of peace.
– “’Calm down’… You really don’t get it, do you? It’s POISONING. There’s no cure other than cutting the exposition to the toxic residues they are dumping in our waters. And you heard with that big ears of yours from Zander himself that they are not stopping their activities” – Jiira reminds the namekian.
– “Yes… but committing a genocide isn’t the answer. I understand-” – Nemo is interrupted midway through his line.
– “Don’t be condescending with me! How can you possibly understand? What do you know about the pain this disease is causing to all of us? The pain of having your planet slowly die away because a bunch of egoists don’t care, since it doesn’t affect them? We aren’t the only ones the chidaians are killing, Nemo! All of the life forms in the five seas are slowly dying as well. They just can’t complain… or do something about it. I can… And I will” – Jiira reaffirms his resolve.
– “I can’t let you…” – Nemo mutters.
– “Then you’ll have to stop me, yourself” – Jiira affirms what Nemo hoped it wouldn’t have to be a fact. Nemo grimaces at the thought of facing his former ally in a deathmatch. For the first time in his life, he was reluctant to join the battlefield. Jiira moves his hand up and over his shoulder, grabbing the hilt of his sword, unsheathing the huge weapon and holding it calmly to his side, as he stares unflinchingly into the namekian’s eyes.
– “Y-you can’t be serious about this…” – Nemo mumbles.
– “You knew it would come to this the moment you came after me. There is no point in postponing the unavoidable. I’m already made my mind and there’s no way you can’t change it other than killing me” – Jiira states bluntly.
– “I don’t want to kill you” – Nemo affirms.
– “But you’ll have to if you want the extinction bomb back” – Jiira guarantees, causing Nemo to grit his teeth and sweat. He knew Jiira was willing to give his life in favor of his beliefs and his people’s well-being. That was the kind of man he was. Deep inside, Nemo knew Jiira had a motive… but it wasn’t a justification. He simply couldn’t let his old friend do what he was intending.
– “Damn, it Jiira… You’re a good man! How can you even consider something like this!” – Nemo says still reluctant to start a fight.
– “If I’m the good man, then that makes you the villain for opposing me. Fight me. Or step aside and go cower in King Lutuch’s arms” – Jiira says, increasing his grip around his sword. Nemo just couldn’t believe his friend’s words… was him really serious.
– “I-i’m not going anywhere” – Nemo affirms, but still keeps himself out of his fighting stance.
– “Then I’ll have to kill you” – Jiira finally gets into an offensive stance. The namekian couldn’t believe the zumian’s words. He was actually going to kill Nemo after all they have been through together? No… he was bluffing.
– “’Kill me’… You’re joking… you got to be” – Nemo mumbles again.
– “No, I’m not. And I’ll prove it to you” – The zumian says with conviction.
It finally started. The two old friends would finally meet each other as foes in the battlefield. This would no longer be an amicable spar anymore. At the end of this, one of them would be dead. Destiny is definitely a bitch… and one with a very twisted sense of humor. Jiira suddenly swings his greatsword in the air. Nemo is seemingly hit by a soft breeze, but suddenly a long incision like mark shows up running down Nemo’s face from the top of his head from his chin. Blood rushes through the namekian’s tore skin and out of his body, splattering the floor in a cinematographic scene. Everything goes into slow motion; Nemo seems to fall into a pitch black dimension within his own self, remembering of the good times he had with Jiira during the period they served as patrolmen together. The talks. The spars. The partnership. All that was gone. From this point on, Nemo and Jiira would no longer best friends. They were enemies now. The zumian swordsman’s attack proved that, taking away any doubts that Jiira had no qualms concerning killing the namekian. The pain was almost unbearable… both the physical and the emotional pain. Nemo drops to the floor knelt down, with one hand on the ground and another holding his right eye. God, how much more blood could come out of that wound? And had him just become blind? The namekian grits his teeth in pain.
– “May that attack serve as a warning. The next one will separate your head from the rest of your body. Not even your incredible regenerative abilities will be much help then” – Jiira says remorselessly.
– “I see… That’s how it’s going to be, then…” – Nemo says, standing up slowly. He removes his hand from his face, revealing the deep cut which would eventually turn into his trademark scar. He couldn't open his eyes. So he would have to fight with only one. Nemo finally gets into an offensive stance.
– “I see you’re finally going to fight. Good. In the name of the friendship we once share, I’ll make your passage to the other world as painless as it can be” – Jiira promises, getting into a defensive pose to brace himself against the namekian’s retaliation.
– “I can use some company for that ‘passage’. I’ll make you repent your crimes while we travel to the HFIL together” – Nemo affirms.
– “Finally… That’s the Nemo I know. Not that sissy coward that was talking a few moments ago. C’mon. Let’s end this!” – Jiira calls out, holding his sword in front of himself and against the green skinned alien.
Nemo dashes; in a fraction of a fraction of a second, the angry plantslugman is in front of the teal skinned swordsman, with his arm stretched back. He throws a barrage of punches at Jiira, who simply dodges them all, retaliating with another swing of his greatsword; this time he attempts a diagonal strike from bottom to top. Nemo leaps up and backflips to avoid being split in half. He falls to the ground with dexterity on his both hands, quickly throwing his body around to perform a low kick and try to knock Jiira out of his feet; he succeeds. He quickly stands up for a follow-up attack, kicking the zumian while he is lying mid-air in his stomach to hurl himself off the cliff and towards the sunset bathing the epic battlefield in its orange spotlight. Jiira uses bukujutsu to maintain himself in the air. Nemo quickly follows up with a dash, but his straight-line trajectory is interrupted as the zumian swings his sword again. Nemo tries to dodge the harmful winds originated from Jiira’s technique (Arashikaze or ‘Storm Wind’). However, dodging the air proves to be a tricky thing and while he manages to avoid most of the attack’s damage, he is grazed by the aftershock, leaving another injury on his face (the smaller scar, parallel to his big one). Nemo manages to reach the swordsman’s position and grab him by his gut. With one hand being used to maintain the heavy blade and without space to perform an effective swing, he moves his one free hand to hold Nemo’s wrist, as the angry namekian strangulates the ex-patrolman. Jiira then knees Nemo in the stomach, causing the warrior to let go off his neck and also propelling him to the safe ground area.
Once free of Nemo’s grasps, Jiira “walks on the air” towards Nemo, back to the firm soil. Once his feet touch the floor, he begins running instead of flying, to put all of his ki into another powerful swing. By this moment, Nemo was rutting the earthy soil as he slides back on his feet after maneuvering in the air to stop being pushed by the force of his former friend’s attack. Upon seeing Jiira coming close, Nemo braces himself from the attack and dodges the melee-range blow, at which distance he was safe from the slicing shockwave of Jiira’s arashikaze attack. The teal skinned fighter continues his assault, slicing the air as he tries to deliver a fatal blow to his opponent’s body. Nemo manages to dodge all of the attacks, until he finally manages to grab Jiira’s hand after one last horizontal swing performed by holding the weapon with only one hand. Nemo squeezes it in an attempt to force his foe to release the blade and even out the battlefield as the namekian fought unarmed. It appears as Jiira is going to give in for a moment, but before Nemo is successful in his disarm attempt, the zumian moves his free hand to touch the namekian’s chest and fires an energy blast at point blank shot. The attack causes enormous pain and sends the green warrior bouncing and rolling on the floor before stopping face down, tightening his grip around the grassy portion of the terrain he had his hands on.
– “Nice try” – Jiira teases.
Slowly, the namekian regains his composure, standing back up to turn around and face his opponent.
– “Coward… Can’t you fight without the help of your weapon?” – Nemo challenges the zumian warrior.
– “Am I the coward? Or would it be you that cannot accept and try to overcome an opponent’s advantage over you? There are no pretty-pleases in a serious battle, old friend. If you really want me to fight without my sword, then be a man and try to take it away from me” – Jiira teases the namekian.
– “After all this… you still have the guts to call me ‘old friend’. The Jiira I knew is dead. And the one I unfortunately know now will also be in a few moments” – Nemo threatens frowning.
– “Your thrash talk is good. If only your fighting skills were on pair with that” – Jiira closes his eyes in his cocky teasing.
– “You jerk!” – The greenie yells, thrusting his arm forward and releasing a beam of yellow energy at the zumian. Jiira simply slaps the ki blast away with ease using the back of his hand.
– “Like I told you, you will have to do much better than th-“ – Jiira’s line is disrupted as he realizes the Nemo was already on top of him, readying a punch as if his energy shot was mostly a decoy. Nemo’s right fist connects to Jiira’s right cheek, causing his eyes to glow white in agony following the anime trend. We can see Nemo’s hand sunk at the swordsman’s teal skin; his lips slightly dislocated to the side by the kinetic force applied to the area. Nemo doesn’t stop there, however. Following the initial blow, he sends forth innumerous other swings that strike the defenseless zumian in every part of his body. As he is hit, Jiira is forced backwards, until a final punch to his chin sends him flying and crashing on the ground. He rolls until he reaches the edge of the cliff, almost falling off, with arm pending down as he is partially past the border, taking a good look at the big fall from the elevation they were fighting in. As for his sword, objective accomplished. When Nemo was pummeling the helpless zumian’s body, his sword fell to the ground upon taking the last hit that sent him flying. Nemo then walks towards it.
Jiira finally started to get up again, slowly. He places his hands at his thighs in order to support his own weight while doing so. He then turns around to look at the namekian, who was holding his greatsword now, inverting the situation.
– “Congratulations, I guess. You managed to disarm me” – Jiira praises. Nemo remains silent, holding his ex-partner’s blade and looking at it. He then closes his eyes and throws the sword behind himself. Now this would be an even fist fight.
– “Heh… I couldn’t have expected it to be any different since it’s you. I guess the battle starts for real now” – Jiira says in mention of Nemo’s getting rid of the sword rather than using it in battle.
– “This is a battle of men. No child’s toys should get in the way” – Nemo states getting back to his fighting stance. The zumian smirks.
– “Fair enough” – The sword-less swordsman says placing his arms to his sides. Elbows slightly bent and fists clenched, Jiira’s veins start to pop up as his blue-ish aura starts to become visible around his body. He frowns. A larger vein bulges on his forehead. The warrior starts groaning. Stronger winds start to emanate from his body radially. It pushes Jiira’s hair up with progressively more force, causing his bandana to wrap and his blonde hair to fall before the winds pull it up. Rocks begin to be lifted up as if magnetized by the ki being irradiated from the warrior’s body. Suddenly, Jiira’s muscles bulge and he lets out a loud yell, causing the ground beneath him to crack. He then dashes at the amazed Nemo, retaliating by returning the many blows that Nemo aimed at his body. Jiira was much stronger and much faster now. Since we don’t have scouters, I won’t bother giving you numbers. But I can say Nemo was around one quarter of the power level he has now back then. Given the difference between their power, you could say Nemo took much more damage than Jiira took when he was being beaten up.
– “You think you have a chance because you took my sword away? THINK AGAIN!” – Jiira says, while viciously spanking the patrolman. He then finishes his attack by kicking Nemo into a rock, imprinting his body on it before the namekian fell on his face on the ground. Definitely, Nemo would have to stop holding back if he wanted to have any shot at containing Jira’s madness.
– “GET UP!” – The zumian yells to the wounded alien.
The galactic patrolman manages to regain his composure. That was quite a beating he took. But he wasn’t fighting at his full potential, just like Jiira wasn’t as well.
– “I know you’re not fighting me at a hundred percent of your power. Stop fooling around and come at me with your maximum, for I will not hold back for a moment!” – Jiira says pointing his finger at the other warrior.
– “Weren’t you until a few moments ago?” – Nemo says, pointing out the fact that Jiira only recently transformed.
– “Don’t be foolish. I thought that was more than enough to beat you. It was an obvious miscalculation and I shall not underestimate you again. I had nor have any intention to make this easy for you. So now… give me your true potential!” – Jiira demands.
– “Heh… since you’re asking…” – Nemo responds. It is his turn to get into position to power up. He has no hair to get the hair-up effect like Jiira, but otherwise the steps of his ki unleashing is pretty much the same. He yells loudly, causing the yellowish aura to glow around his body and explode into a powerful kiai like attack (you know… invisible shockwave pushing stuff around… go look it up in a wiki if you don’t have the faintest idea of what I’m talking about). In a matter of seconds, the battlefield is pretty much even, although a scouter would reveal that Jiira was the strongest between the two. Even without his sword.
The true battle begins in this second round. Both warriors dash towards each other and they begin to clash, throwing punches and kicks at each other in every possible fashion. Some connect, some don’t. The majority don’t, actually, being either dodged or parried by the opposing party. They would dance around the battlefield in this iconic duel for at least a couple of minutes, until both jump away from each other. Enough of basic attacks; it was time to bring the heavy weaponry to the battlefield. As Jiira hits the landscape, he clenches his fist, causing a small translucent orb of blue energy to revolve his fist. He then thrusts his hand forward, releasing his signature move, which he called Crashing Wave. If you pay attention, Jiira’s attacks are themed around natural events involving water (crashing wave, storm wind…). Seeing the incoming energy wave, Nemo put into practice a little technique he learned during his trainings…
The kiai can be considered a basic technique to many fighters. Also known as the super explosive wave, the attack can be used both defensively or offensively. Albeit the destructive force, it doesn’t have much potential damage and is mostly used to either startle the enemy or to protect oneself from and attack, using the repelling force of the invisible shockwave resultant from executing the technique. Nemo’s control of this technique comes from his ability to control his own ki; by exerting a lot of energy at once, Nemo is able to use this force to block weaker energy attacks and / or push the enemy back with a non-damaging invisible force. In this case, he would use the kiai as a barrier to shield himself from Jiira’s Crashing Wave. It is the result of many days of improving ki manipulation through a long routine of meditations. Take this addendum to explain the origin of one of the techniques of Nemo’s arsenal. Now back to the fight:
As Jiira’s attack approach, Nemo raises his hand up and thrusts his arm forward while yelling as loudly as he can when the blast makes contact with Nemo’s hand. The sheer force exerted by the namekian causing the energy beam to disperse into smoke, leaving the green alien unharmed. That both impresses and pisses Jiira off, as the zumian sees his special attack be nullified in such an easy way.
– “Not bad…” – The warrior can’t help but praise the namekian’s performance.
– “You saw nothing yet” – Nemo says, readying his retaliation.
Since his old friend had used his signature move, Nemo would gladly show his in return. This technique was developed after the ex-patrolman left the organization, so he wasn’t familiar with this one. It is pretty cool. I’ll give you a brief run through in this one as well: Namekians are known for having many magical abilities… perhaps the most impressive one being the ability to survive the most extreme injuries by regenerating their body. This self-healing mechanism seem to be voluntary and Nemo took it to the extreme. Rather than forcing his cells to grow lost limbs, Nemo is actually able to push his regenerative abilities to force his cells to multiply, growing a fresh new set of arms beneath his shoulder blades. This technique is called the Shiyoken or Four Witches technique. Jiira would stand in awe as he watches the plantslugman scream as if going through a very painful process, when suddenly two arms sprout from the namekian’s back tearing through his violet jumpsuit-like uniform (the bad thing about this technique and one of the reasons Nemo refrained from using it was due to the fact that he always had to get a new uniform later…). A greenish liquid drips from the fresh set of limbs once the process is done.
– “Oh, c’mon now…” – Jiira mumbles.
Nemo dashes forward and begins to throw punches in a Goro-like fashion. Needless to say, the extra arms give the namekian the edge he needed to equate the damage he took from Jiira’s transformed assault. The bonus limbs allowed Nemo to attack faster and dish more damage per second due to the combined kinetic force produced by the supplementary blows. I don’t think I’m being too figurative when I say Jiira was being beaten up to a pulp; he tried to evade the attacks and even though he could be considered stronger, having two more fists to look out for was giving him serious trouble. Now he was the one that was in disadvantage to an opponent’s personal weapon. The barrage of punches continue until the scene stops in a slow motion of the zumian taking a perfect hit to his stomach, lifting him up from the ground and causing him to cough up blood. Nemo then gives a temporary end to his brutal pummeling by kicking Jiira away from him. Note that I said “temporary”. That is because as soon as the zumian is sent flying away, Nemo uses his race’s mystic attack (you know… that thing where the namekian stretches his limb) to send an arm in pursue of his foe, grabbing him by his gut and dragging him back towards Nemo. The final step of his combo consists in combining the force of the opponent being dragged really fast towards him and the power of a well-place and well-time blow to the stomach using two fists at the same time. Needless to say, Jiira almost blacked out after this. Nemo then wraps his four arms around Jiira’s body and begins to squeeze the zumian with a deadly hug. The teal skinned warrior grimaces with the pain and soon enough, his senses begin to fail him.
Nearly blacked out, Jiira’s brain was lacking the oxygen to think straight. The tight grip was also giving him the impression he was trapped within one of those car crushers, use to compact the vehicles into metallic pancakes (or blocks… depends on the model). His bones and spine seemed about to crack and the immense pressure wasn’t allowing his thorax to expand, preventing him to breathe (what loops us back to the “lack-of-oxygen-on-brain” thing). Jiira needed to figure out a way to get out of there fast, else he would be done for.
– “Give up, Jiira… You lost” – Nemo warns his friend of his apparent doom.
– “Ne…ver…” – The zumian manages to spill a couple of syllables before he does a little trick. Suddenly, his eyes glow blue, causing his pupil and iris to disappear. Then, a flash of light is projected on Nemo’s face , like the well-known Taiyoken/Solar Flare technique, blinding the namekian and causing him to let go of his target. Nemo shrieks, startled by the crippling attack and then flailing his arms around blindly trying to hit Jiira although he was unsuccessful. The merman-like warrior took the opportunity to regain his breath and even had enough momentum left from Nemo’s temporary ailment to fit in his response in the form of a punch to the stomach and a kick to the head. He then runs towards where Nemo threw his sword a few moments ago.
Jiira finally finds the blade lying by a medium-sized rock. As he crouches to pick it up, he feels Nemo’s strong grasping his shoulder.
– “GET OVER HERE!” – The greenie yells, pulling him back using his stretchable arm to reach him from distance. Perhaps you’ll get the reference to a pop culture character in this latest move.
– “Damn it!” – Jiira complains as he was almost managing to retrieve his weapon.
– “That trick won’t work twice!” – Nemo says as he brings Jiira close to him.
– “Neither this one” – The teal skinned swordsman responds, referring to how the patrolman was also using the same trick on him, using the mystic attack. Then, once he is in melee range, right before Nemo repeats the double-arm punch to the stomach portion of his combo, Jiira shoots him in the face at point blank range with a basic ki blast, causing the big namekian to scream in pain as a cloud of smoke emanates from the targeted area. Jiira then takes advantage of Nemo once again being bereft of his sight to connect a few more strikes and trip him with a low kick. Once Nemo is finally in the air, Jiira spins around and stand up, kicking the green warrior away. He finishes his series of attack by bringing his arms backwards and thrusting them forward while making rapid movements with them in the air to send as many energy blasts at his foe as he can. Nemo disappears behind a curtain of smoke when the merman finishes his bombardment.
– “That shall leave him out for a while” – The ex-patrolman speaks to himself.
A few moments after, we see Nemo’s hand coming from the border of the cliff as if he almost fell. We see him pulling himself back up to his and Jiira’s rocky arena. Meanwhile, the swordsman was making a second run to his sword, trying to pick it up before Nemo could get to him, in hopes that his barrage of ki blasts would delay the warrior long enough. It seemed that he would manage it this time as he already could feel the hilt of the greatsword lying in the palm of his hands.
– “I won’t let you!” – Nemo yells from near the cliff, raising his upper arms up while he starts to grow to skyscraper height and then bringing his arms back down at his opponent like a hammer. A loud noise is heard and a dust cloud is raised as Nemo’s fist hit the ground, apparently crushing Jiira like a bug between it. Soon enough, however, we see the swift swordsman running through the Great Namek Nemo’s arm unharmed. He had his sword back finally, holding it with one hand as he makes his way up. Nemo tries to grab him to disrupt his dash, but all he does is jump to the other arm when Nemo tries to grab him. Finally, though, the gargantuan warrior manages to grab his former colleague causing the zumian to disappear within his grasp. For details sake: Nemo was holding Jiira with his lower right arm. The giant then proceeds to try and crush the ex-patrolman like a bug.
If you are thinking Jiira is done for, you’re wrong… That jerk is a tough one. Suddenly we hear a high-pitched sound effect and a glowing like suddenly appearing longitudinally on Nemo’s arm. The limb then explodes in a gush of green-ish blood as it is divided in half by the swordsman’s powerful arashikaze technique. One less arm for Nemo.
– “Your fool! You know this form doesn’t make you any stronger… or anything else other than a bigger target! Did you forget whom you’re fighting against?” – Jiira says floating in the air after freeing himself of his foe’s grasp. The angry behemoth tries to swing a fist at Jiira, who evades it while still mid-air, and hits with a sword strike at wrist-length, cutting away Nemo’s lower left hand. And there goes the greenie’s advantage. Jiira then dashes towards the patrolman’s chest’s height and performs a third sword strike, which tears the namekian’s chest in diagonally, giving him the third scar we can see in his picture (the one that takes part of his neck and chest. Blood rushes from the open wound and the giant falls off his balance, proving the merman’s point that he became no stronger doing his little size-increasing trick. Nemo falls on his back and immediately begins to revert back to his normal size. The zumian lands near him.
Nemo was already beginning to get tired and getting up proved to be harder this time. He was also in great pain from having his body mutilated by Jiira’s sword. The swordsman wasn’t unscathed as well, although in a better condition than Nemo. The namekian breathes heavily as blood drips from his severed arm and wrist.
– “That’s your limit?” – Jiira inquires.
– “Don’t… be cocky… I’m not nearly done with you!” – Nemo answers, with brief pauses between some words signaling his exertion. The namekian then reacts in a very weird way: he rips off his now-useless arm and throws it at Jiira. The swordsman reflexively swings his sword at it in a bottom-to-top diagonal strike. With the weapon lifted, Nemo takes the opportunity to dash at Jiira, crouching as he skates towards the teal skinned warrior and grabbing his ankle. This causes the merman to fall forward due to inertia and Nemo continues to slide for a few seconds before standing fully up and beginning to run while still holding his foe’s leg. This was rather painful for Jiira as since he fell on his face, Nemo dragged him that way making him eat some dirt. The namekian than hurls his opponent up to the sky and charges up an energy blast, hurling several energy waves at Jiira. The zumian uses the sword as a shield to protect himself, blocking some of the damage. We later see him falling back to the ground, kneeling down. He then charges towards Nemo and thrusts his sword. Nemo dodges. He then counterattacks with a punch to Jiira’s face, causing his brain to shake within his skull, making the warrior dizzy for a moment and lose his guard. Nemo continues to attack, hitting him in the belly, what causes him to bend forward. The next attack in an elbow strike to Jiira’s back, followed by the namekian grabbing the wrist of the hand holding the former-patrolman’s greatsword and karate-chopping it to render it unusable. The painful strike breaks the distal part of Jiira’s forearm’s bones, forcing the man to drop his weapon for good. He then twists the man’s arm while holding the broken wrist, slamming him against the ground, which cracks with the impact and causing the zumian to cough up blood. Jiira makes an effort to try and stand up but Nemo places his foot on his chest and presses him back down. The swordsman scowls, grabbing Nemo’s leg to try and free himself. He doesn’t have much luck given the fact that one of them was broken, causing Jiira to lose some effective strength.
– “You’re done for” – The tiered namekian says.
– “Go ahead… kill me” – Jiira seems to yield.
– “I’m not killing you… I’m taking you to Mars with me were you will be locked away while we deal properly with the chidaians” – Nemo reveals.
– “What…” – Jiira seems somehow disappointed with his old friend’s resolve.
– “You heard me. You tried to murder an entire civilization and acted against a patrolman on duty. You deserve to be thrown on jail for your crimes. But don’t worry. I’ll keep the promise I made you and will deal with Zander. Not for you. But for the zumian people” – Nemo states.
– “So, all of this… was just you trying to arrest me?” – Jiira inquires.
– “Yes. Enough lives have been lost to the chidaian’s negligence. I plan to deal with this matter without raising the body count any further” –
– “You… fool…” – The angry zumian mumbles, increasing the pressure of his one working hand around Nemo’s ankle. Suddenly, a blue-ish/teal aura begins to appear around Jiira’s body.
– “Your power level… it is rising…” – Nemo states rhetorically. Incredibly enough, Jiira manages to lift Nemo using only one hand. He throws the warrior away and begins to stand up. Nemo bounces a couple of times in the floor, but don’t suffer much more harm. It seemed the battle wasn’t over yet…
Jiira stares fiercely at Nemo’s eyes; it was like if he was peeking directly into his soul. Nemo’s response seemed to really set him off.
– “Jiira…” – Nemo mutters, impressed with the merman’s power. No wonder why Jiira was considered the most powerful zumian to have been born.
– “I’m NOT spending the rest of my life in a jail. I told you… This isn’t a battle to be fought lightly. You made a big mistake, Nemo” – Jiira affirms while walking to the namekian still revolved by the glowing aura.
– “Life in jail… You’re overdramatizing it… You-“ – Nemo is impeded to finish by a powerful punch to the face.
– “SHUT UP!” – Jiira yells. It is Nemo’s brain this time that seemed to dance inside his cranium.
– “I told you before. You will have to kill me if you want to stop me” – Jiira proceeds, also continuing his attack to the poor namekian. He hits him again. And again. And again. Anyone seeing the murderous intent stamped in that merman’s face would hardly believe these two were ever friends.
– “Since you are not MAN ENOUGH to do it… Then I’ll end you… FOR ONCE!” – Jiira finishes, thrusting his hand at Nemo’s chest, firing an energy beam. For the umpteenth time, we see the greenie’s body lying on the ground and giving off smoke. His muscles no longer wanted to obey him, contracting involuntarily in pain. Nemo had but a spark of ki within him. It seemed our hero was done for… and for good this time. The swordsman stares at his defeated partner.
– “But before… I’ll deal with the chidaians” – Jiira says, rummaging through his pocket, looking for the extinction bomb he stole from his former friend.
– “No… stop it…” – Nemo mumbles on the floor, putting his last energies on a last effort to stand up and impede the ex-patrolman. Jiira finally reaches the object, holding it up. The small capsule was wrapped by four of the zumian’s fingers and his thumb was hovering right above the switch, about to press it.
– “Goodbye” – Jiira says closing his eyes.
– “I WON’T LET YOU!” –Nemo yells, “standing up” (between quotation marks due to looking more like an undead on his feet than anything) and thrusting his arm with his index and middle finger pointed at Jiira. An orange-yellow light beam with another smaller beam spiraling around it is shot at the zumian; it was the Makankosappo… Nemo’s most powerful technique, which he learned from master Malac of the Warrior Clan. The beam pierces through Jiira’s belly, coming out other way. The whole scenery is illuminated by the powerful technique, which finally explodes behind the duo upon hitting a mountain, creating a large blast.
When the lights fad away, we see an agonizing Jiira managing to stand on his feet even with a hole through his body. Geez… this freak was tough. But it doesn’t take long and he falls to his knees, letting the extinction bomb roll to the side. Nemo rushes to his dying friend. In these hours, nothing matters. Nemo kneels down holding his pal in his arms.
– “Jiira…” – The namekian says, with no anger in his tone anymore.
– “You did it buddy… You’ve beaten me…” – Jiira also seemed to be strangely serene, as if he welcomed his fate, despite how freaking painful that should be.
– “Shhh… Don’t speak. It’s better to save your energy… Let me take care of you” – Nemo says naively.
– “Don’t be ridiculous… There’s a hole in my body. I’m a dead man” – Jiira states the obvious. Nemo knows that his friend is right. There wasn’t anything he could do. Perhaps if he had some of those Dragon Clan abilities? But he didn’t…
– “Thank you” – Jiira says somewhat cryptically.
– “What are you thanking me for? I just killed you… and I haven’t dealt with the chidaians yet” – Nemo states, puzzled.
– “That won’t be necessary. I…. lied to you” – Jiira responds.
– “You lied? What do you mean?” – Nemo inquires.
– “The bomb… I used it long before you arrived” – Jiira reveals.
That took Nemo’s floor away from him, like a passing wave in the sea. He felt a twist in his stomach, specially as he figures out Jiira was telling the truth… Now that Jiira said it, he realized he no longer could feel the ki of King Zander.
– “Wha-why?” – Nemo mumbles without having the words to express his shock.
– “Because it is my people, Nemo… And because this is not a cheesy tale from a cheap book. I took the bomb from you because I was decided upon using it. And that’s what I did” – Jiira explains.
– “Hundreds of innocents… you’ve killed them all…” – Nemo points out.
– “They all knew what they were doing! They weren’t innocent!” – Jiira alters his tone, but it causes him to cough and his fraction of vitality to disappear some more.
– “Then why… why didn’t you run away… why all that theater when I came after you” – Nemo asks.
– “I don’t regret what I did and if I had to, I would do it all over again. It’s my people after all. I don’t mind taking the burden of a disgraced man if it is what it takes to save them. Nonetheless, my actions are nonetheless despicable and can never be forgiven. I could not keep on living after what I did to the chidaians. My punishment was death. Not that it would take much longer to arrive anyway…” – Jiira says.
– “What do you mean?” – Nemo interrogates.
– “I’ve got the disease, Nemo… despite living by the Great Central Sea, where the chances are lower due to the strong currents. The Gods wanted me dead... The only clemency I wished was that it didn’t come to me while I wither in a bed, cursing my inertia for letting my people die without doing anything about it… or in a jail cell forgotten by everyone I once loved. If I had to die, then it would be saving my folk… no matter at what cost” – He explains. It all began to make sense to Nemo now. Tears form in the namekian’s eyes as he begins to understand everything. Jiira was planning to die from the start. The whole staging was to convince Nemo to do it, as knew the only scenario that the namekian would possibly kill him, was if Jiira gave him no choice on the matter.
– “And why me?” – He asks.
– “Because you are my best friend. It had to be you” – The dying zumian responds, causing the tears to run down torrentially as he squeezes the teal skinned warrior’s hand.
– “It’s alright man. I just hope… that you can someday forgive me for what I did…” – The man pleads.
– “I can never accept what you did…” – Nemo says making a pause that seemed like an eternity… specially for someone that didn’t have many minutes left.
– “… but of course I forgive you” – Nemo states, bringing one last bit of hope to the dying man’s heart.
– “Thank you… You truly are my FRIEND… I hope one day I can be reborn in this universe and meet you again. Until then… farewell, old friend” – Jiira breathes out for the last time; the last bit of ki leaving his body.
– “Farewell… old friend” –
If you’re the soft type, go dry your face up. There’s a bit more to read before you’re done with this one. In the next scene, Nemo is in front of a vessel that seems to be a coffin, containing Jiira’s dead body. He is surrounded by the king and the royal family as well as many zumians, signaling he was back at the castle. Jiira didn’t have family anymore, so unfortunately the closest thing to it there was Nemo himself. The namekian told them of what Jiira did to protect them, taking such a burden upon his shoulders and giving his own life as payment for his sins. Jiira would be held for the next generations as the greatest hero of the zumian people. Jiira’s body was buried by a pond of fresh water, given a safe rest for the eternity away from the tainted water. Nemo was offered a bed (and fresh water to bath himself with) for as long as he needed until he left and would be forever welcome amongst the mermen folk. He decided to leave the next day however. With him, he took Jiira’s greatsword. Not as a spoil of war… but as a memento. The same way he would wear those scars in his body. As a reminder of the day he fought… and killed the most honorable man he have ever met.
As for the zumian people. They should be fine now. Without constant pollution coming from the chidaians, the currents of the Great Central Sea would take away the toxic residues to the extremities, making it the safest place to live for the time being. It would take years, but nature would eventually heal itself. Concerning the chidaians, it was as Jiira said… he used the bomb, so the race was pretty much extinct. Once he was back at the Nautilus (the name of Nemo’s ship), he made sure set the take-off trajectory to pass by the chidaian’s city to take one last look at it. If Zander wasn’t such a rock-head… well… it’s evil to say it, but he brought it upon himself.
Back at Mars, the patrolman gives his report. King Lutuch wasn’t happy in knowing that Nemo prevented an extinction with another, but conceded that it wasn’t the namekian’s fault as Jiira also managed to fool him, since the zumian contacted the Patrol rather than Nemo directly. He understood that there was no way no one would have imagined Jiira’s plan and actually praised him for fighting the zumian until the end, despite them being old time friends. Once again Nemo proved that he was capable of putting his duties above personal matters. Although King Lutuch couldn’t award him a badge given the outcome of that mission, he was given a “moral honoring” for his efforts.
The Deidoro arc is finally done; That was an experience that would be forever carved in the namekian’s memory and body. Thank you for reading!
