“I do what I want, when I want to. Of course I try to be a good person while doing so. I’m not going to go and be a bitch for no reason. However, my main concern is watching out for #1. Me.”
Name: Kari-Ko
Alias: Kari-Ko of the Bamiriyan
Species:Ryashi
Gender:Female
Age:20
History: Kari-Ko grew up in the Sangurro Sands region of Appodorra, one of the planet’s more popular tourist spots. Her family ran a moderately sized resort near the edge of a large lake. Like her handful of siblings, Kari-Ko spent her days helping out with the family business. However, she often found herself distracted from whatever task was supposed to be doing by the resort’s wide range of clients.
Seeing off-worlders may have been a normal part of daily life for those inhabiting the Sangurro Sands, but the sheer variety of people that checked in and out of the establishment was fascinating. Kari-Ko couldn’t help but wonder what kind of places they came from and what their lives were like when they weren’t on vacation. Appodorra was nice and all, but idea of travelling to exotic locations, basking in their culture, and just enjoying herself while going with the flow was a fantasy of hers. The change of scenery wouldn’t hurt either. The young woman regularly bugged their customers with random questions, which constantly earned her scoldings from her parents.
Kari-Ko had always been sort of a free spirit. She wasn’t a fan of being tied down to one spot and preferred to see and experience things on her own rather than just be satisfied with hearsay. That’s why it wasn’t a huge surprise that she one day simply took off with nothing more than a note left in her sleeping chamber that let her family know that she hadn’t been kidnapped or anything. She had actually been playing with the idea of striking out on her own for a while now. Kari-Ko had just never really had the courage to go through with it until her parents’ latest lecture about how clients were at the resort to relax and not be pestered. That was when she decided that she had had enough with the reprimanding. If her family wanted to suppress her curiosity like that, the young woman would just have to substitute her questions with good, old fashioned experiences!
With so many species favoring Appodorra as a vacation spot and travelling to and from the planet on a regular basis, it was no wonder that spaceships were a plentiful commodity. Kari-Ko’s family wasn’t hard up for cash either, which meant acquiring one herself was an absolute cinch. She couldn’t believe that she had been holding back this little idea of hers because she thought it would be difficult! All she had to do was punch in the coordinates that came in the little guidebook that was included with the ship and she was already on her way to a whole new planet to explore!
The adventurous young Ryashi knew nothing about any of the planets listed in the book, so she decided to just punch one in at random. Planet Grell seemed like a good enough place to start as any. The was sure there could be plenty of new people to meet and rich culture to soak in. Just like that, her newly purchased ship rocketed into the stars and she was on her way to her very first foreign planet! It was so exciting!
While Kari-Ko may have had no trouble at all getting her hands on a spaceship, what she lacked was an eye for detail when it came to finding a ship that was sturdy and not riddled with problems. That’s why she was in for quite a shock when her ship started rumbling when it entered Grell’s atmosphere. Loud rattles and banging noises filled her sensitive ears as a few important looking parts of the ship were ripped away and flew past the window. The entire vessel was falling apart! Kari-Ko started to panic and slithered over to the closest thing to hang onto so she could brace for the impact. This was going to be far from a smooth landing!
Thankfully, Kari-Ko found a sturdy enough pipe to coil her tail around before the impact. Otherwise she probably would have been bounced helplessly around the interior like it was some kind of incredibly violent pinball machine. The crash still left the Ryashi shaken to the point that almost every nerve in her body was experiencing an unpleasant tingling sensation, but it could have easily been much worse. One thing was for certain. She didn’t want to stay in that death trap any longer. Hopefully this planet would have a decent spaceship market that she could browse. There’s nothing that would ever convince her to fly in the one she arrived in again, not that it could probably lift on anymore to begin with.
She blasted the front hatch off and frantically slithered outside. Apparently her ship had made quite the crater when it had rather forcefully touched down on the surface. Hopefully it hadn’t crushed anything important. Kari-Ko didn’t have much time to ponder if her landing had destroyed anything, for as soon as she reached the top of the crater, she was surrounded by a small mishmash of alien species. Most of them looked like your average grunts. They were wearing shoddy looking armor and carrying blasters. Most of them were pointed at Kari-Ko, but there were a handful of them pointed at another member of the group that stuck out like a sore thumb. It was an adolescent girl with dark hair and a matching set of fuzzy ears and a fuzzy tail. She was obviously some kind of prisoner of theirs. While Kari-Ko may not have had any idea what she did, judging by the ship she could see in the distance and the fact that the grunts’ guns were pointed at the Ryashi as well, she could make a pretty good guess.
While Kari-Ko was in the midst of sizing up her welcoming committee, a small yet somewhat commanding voice piped up from the very back of the group. He announced that her clunker of a ship now belonged to the ‘all-powerful’ Xullin. The Ryashi had to boost herself up with her tail just so she could see who was talking to her. It was a little pipsqueak of an alien with purple skin, massive ears and a smug look on his face. The little guy then declared that both she and their other prisoner would be put to work assisting the others of his kind in building a grand palace to honor him.
Kari-Ko burst out laughing on the spot. Here was this little man who not only was demanding that he now owned the hunk of junk that she flew in on, and was thinking that he could force her to do manual labor. However, the icing on the cake was that the goons that he had most likely hired to intimidate people into doing his bidding collectively didn’t even add up to half of the scaled woman’s power. Forget about D-list flunkies, these guys were somewhere near the very bottom of the F-list.
The little man in charge didn’t particularly like Kari-Ko’s reaction to the orders he had given. He wasn’t a fan of being mocked. Therefore, Xullin immediately ordered his men to open fire at the disrespectful young woman. Much like the men holding the blasters and the armor they were wearing, the weapons themselves were incredibly lackluster. You see, all Ryashi raised in the Sangurro region of Appodorra are taught how to handle themselves in combat from a fairly young age. With the region being so popular among tourists, it’s wasn’t all that uncommon for this to get rowdy since there was such a diverse group of off-worlders. Those who actually lived in the area needed to know how to defend themselves just in case a scuffle broke out. That way they could keep damage to a minimum while they waited for guards to be dispatched to get things under control.
With a single swing of Kari-Ko’s muscular tail, the Ryashi snatched up the blasters, putting the squeeze on them as a constrictor snake would its prey until they were crushed into little more than scrap metal. She then made short work of the men that had once carried the now useless weapons, tossing each unconscious thug into a heap when she was done with them. Once his henchmen were disposed of, she turned her attention to Xullin, who had the cutest little dumbfounded expression on his face after watching his hired muscle get smacked around like flies. He looked like a toddler that had once ruled playground, but now was on the verge of tears after the big kids had come to play.
While the young woman could have easily just taken out the wannabe dictator without a second thought, she decided it would have been far more satisfying to have a bit of fun with him first. Kari-Ko was all about enjoying herself. Getting things over with as soon as possible might have been more efficient, but it was boring! The Ryashi instead grabbed him with her tail before giving him a change to flee. She loomed over him for a moment, baring her small fangs and musing allowed about how he was just the right size for her next meal. Should she roast him on a spit or let him sit under hot coals? She even asked if he had a preference over tasting saltier or spicier. Of course, Kari-Ko would never even dream of eating someone. Ryashi had a rule about sapient life being off-limits as far as food went. But the look on his face was priceless!
The small purple man, who now looked quite pale thanks to all of Kari-Ko’s talk about him winding up in her stomach, began to beg for his life. He both looked and sounded like he was on the verge of tears. Kari-Ko couldn’t keep a straight face anymore. She burst into another fit of uproarious laughter, clutching at her stomach since it was starting to ache from it. This juicy bit of entertainment was almost worth losing her ship over. Once she was able to breathe again, she waved away his pleading and admitted that she was just screwing with him. That was when his fuzzy eared prisoner stepped forward and suggested turning him over to the others o his kind. That was probably for the best. She really hadn’t had any plans for him other than having a good laugh at his expense. His attempt at pushing her around had been a joke at best. Why not play the hero since she’d already done the heavy lifting?
With a grin, Kari-Ko asked the girl if she thought the others of his species would reward her with a new ship since she took out the ‘big bad’. Unfortunately, that hope was immediately dashed when she was informed that they probably didn’t have any ships to give. What?! Apparently, out of all the places she could have chosen to travel to, Kari-Ko had managed to pick some backwater planet that was so technologically impaired that most of its residents wouldn’t recognize a basic ship if it landed in the middle of their stupid fields! Augh! Now what was she supposed to do? It’s not like the hunk of junk she arrived on could fly anymore...
In the midst of Kari-Ko’s little freak out session, the fuzzy eared girl spoke up yet again. There was a bit of hesitation in her voice, but she offered the Ryashi the use of her own ship. Sake, as she introduced herself, came from the planet Earth. She had travelled here to get a break from her rambunctious siblings back home. As long as Kari-Ko promised not to pester her too much, as well as providing muscle when it was needed, she was free to travel with her.
From that day forward, Sake and Kari-Ko agreed to be travelling companions. The Ryashi kept up her end of the bargain and kind of acted like Sake’s bodyguard when needed, as well as taking care of any heavy lifting. The fox girl, in return, made sure that their ship stayed in tip-top condition. Sake could be a little difficult to deal with at times, Kari-Ko later found out. The girl was a real stick in the mud. She wasn’t much for conversation, and any fun suggestions were always met with a sour look before she wordlessly shoved her nose back into whatever book she was reading. Though, having someone to talk to was alright even though most of the time she might as well have been talking to a wall. And she got to do all of the travelling she wanted without having to worry about the ship! All in all, it wasn’t so bad.
Oh, the adventures that were in store for this unlikely duo...

Techniques:
Amaranth Shot[N1] - A small ball of ki appears in Kari-Ko’s hand. She clenches her fist around it, pulls back her arm, and then pushes it forward and fires it off at an opponent.
Amaranth Beam[UP2] - A small ball of ki appears in each of Kari-Ko’s palms. She claps her hands together briefly before thrusting them forward so that her open hands are facing her opponent. A beam of crimson energy is shot forth at her target.
Amaranth Cannon[MP3] - Kari-Ko claps her hands together and focuses as much energy as she can muster into the tiny amount of space between them. The energy that’s being concentrated starts to build up pressure, pushing against her hands as more is gathered into that small space. Once Kari-Ko can feel enough of that pressure, she pulls her hands apart and lets her attack rush forth at her target.
Amaranth Trail[V2] - This is an upgraded version of Amaranth Shot that homes in on the target’s ki signature.
Amaranth Missile[UV3] - Kari-Ko is able to gather even more power into her homing attack for even more damage when it reaches its target.
Ki Sense[SU] - Kari-Ko is able to sense Ki.
Constrict[Special] - Kari-Ko attempts to snare her opponent with her muscular tail and coil around them. This constricts them for two turns, causing damage each turn as an uncharged N1 technique. Neither her opponent or herself can do anything while the attack is still going on. If she isn't within at least 65% of her opponent's PL, it won't do a thing to them.

Name: Sake Nigiri (Kari-Ko's NPC)
Alias: N/A
Species: Zoanthrope
Gender:Female
Age: 17
History: Fox folk may be stereotypically mischievous and fond of pranks, but that doesn’t mean that all of them fit this mold. Sake Nigiri was always more of a quiet, bookish type who preferred to keep to herself. She never had much of a sense of humor and frankly found the behavior of other fox folk obnoxious. This made living with a family of ten other siblings rather... grating. It was always something with them. Sake found it difficult to appreciate what her four brothers and six sisters claimed as ‘keeping things lively’ since that usually meant being loud or messing with her stuff. While she cared about them as most sisters did, their constant loud and lack of volume control practically drove her up a wall. She found herself doing whatever she could other than flat out murdering the lot of them to get a break them.
As someone who devours books like nobody’s business, Sake had picked up many skills during her young life. One notable skill in particular was the basics of martial arts. She didn’t know anything fancy in that regard, but she knew the right technique on how to throw a punch or a kick in dire straits. Sake doesn’t have much in the way of strength. What she has instead, is technique.
Another important skill that Sake picked up from the various books she had read was spaceship operation and maintenance. You see, the girl wasn’t fooling around with her desire to get some alone time away from those pesky siblings of hers. If going out into space was best way to keep them from following her around and trying to include her in their practical jokes, then so be it! All it took was one trip to Capsule Corp before her wish for solitude finally came true and she was rapidly leaving Earth atmosphere aboard her new ship.
A small planet called Grell seemed like a decent enough planet to travel to. Sake had done a good amount of research and found that was it was populated by beings called Grellians. These aliens consisted of little purple men and women with large ears and three pairs of antennae who were little more than peaceful farmers. They didn’t seem like the mischievous types from what she had read, so it would undoubtedly be a breath of fresh air until she felt the need to drag herself back to Earth. With the preparations all taken care of and a storage compartment filled with literature, Sake made her way to this new world.
There was no doubt that the fox girl had done her homework on her destination. She always liked to go into things fully prepared with as little room for error as possible. Unfortunately, there was a kink in her plan that couldn’t have been seen no matter how many books she read about Grell. One of the natives’ ego had recently gotten far too big for him to be satisfied with their current humble lifestyle. His name was Xullin, and he was convinced that the rest of his kind’s lack of ambition made them lower than him. He had hired a bunch of off-world mercenaries to be his bodyguards while he pushed the other Grellians into submission. They were threatened with violence if they didn’t comply with Xullin’s demands, which included building him a palace and paying him a monthly tribute.
The moment Sake stepped off the ship after touching down on Grell’s surface, she found herself surrounded by a dozen of the budding dictator’s guards. Each one had a blaster trained on her face. Just behind the group, Xullin stood at 2’8” giving her a smug look and claiming that her ship now belonged to him. While she knew the basics of combat, there was no way she could possibly take on all twelve of them at once. They would likely turn her skull into swiss cheese before could land more than a punch or two. Not seeing any other options, Sake calmly raised her hands into the air in surrender and was ushered off the ship. Well, this was quite the predicament she had gotten herself in... Though, she still wasn’t sure whether or not it was worse than dealing with her siblings back home.
Okay, there had to be some way she could get out of this one. She supposed she could try to threaten that holding an Earth citizen hostage could spark a war. The problem was that she didn’t really tell anyone back home where she was going. It was too risky of a bluff since being successfully called out on it would likely just make things worse. She would have to just bite her tongue and bide her time for now. The Grellian in the back was obviously calling the shots. All Sake had to do was study his behavior patterns long enough; she was sure that she could find some sort of tick that she could exploit.
As Xullin was ordering a few of his men to search the inside of his new vessel, a second ship entered Grell’s atmosphere and crashed not too far away from the group’s position, causing violent tremors to shake the ground uncontrollably for a few moments. Grell was supposed to be a remote planet that didn’t get many visitors. Why was it so popular all of a sudden? The tiny dictator ordered his men to forget about Sake’s ship for the moment; they needed to go inspect the newest arrival first. With a few guns still pointing at the fox girl, he ordered the entire group to relocate to the newly formed crater on the planet’s surface.
Sake obediently followed the orders she was given with her hands still in the air. Maybe whatever was in the other ship would provide enough of a distraction for her to slip away. As the group neared the edge of the crater, a woman with the lower half of a snake popped out of it to be met with the same treatment as Sake had received upon landing. Was that a Ryashi? Sake had read about them as well. They were supposed to be a species whose economy was mostly dependent on tourist activity on their homeworld. Was she here to try to drum up business? Whatever the snake woman’s intentions were, Sake found to her chagrin that there were still enough guns pointed at her to convince her that attempting to bolt was a bad idea. So much for that idea...
After making a claim to the new ship, Xullin informed his two prisoners that they would be put to work in building up his new palace. Ah, so he must have just recently forced his way to power then. Sake had thought it was a bit strange that she’d receive such a welcome from a supposedly peaceful race. This Xullin character must have just been a bad egg.
Rather than complying with the Grellian’s demands, Sake was shocked to see that the woman instead broke out into a fit of laughter. Did she know what she was getting herself into? The fox girl felt her breath catch in her throat as Xullin’s guards began to fire upon the Ryashi. That idiot was going to get herself killed! However, instead of painting their surroundings with the dark indigo hue of her blood and internal organs, the woman merely smacked away the blasters with what appeared to be little to no effort and followed it up with beating the tar out of the men that had fired upon her.
With the paid mooks out of the way, the woman wrapped her bright red tail around Xullin, holding him in place as she discussed making him her next meal. Sake would have piped up asking about how it was supposed to be taboo for Ryashi to eat people from what she had read about them, but immediately recognized the playful gleam in her eye and tone to her voice all too well thanks to the dealings with her siblings. It was quite clear that the woman was just messing around. The snake woman eventually broke out into laughter yet again after a bit more toying with the man who had attempted to enslave the both of them. Sake had to admit that watching Xullin’s reaction was mildly amusing. She suggested that he be turned into the other Grellians to be punished accordingly once the Ryashi was done with her little façade. The woman decided to go along with it, and even had a glimmer of hopefulness in her red eyes when she asked about possibly being rewarded with a new ship. Her’s had fallen apart upon entering Grell’s atmosphere.
Sake let out a sigh and gave the Ryashi the bad news. Since Grellians tended to live peacefully as more of the nature loving types who kept to themselves, they didn’t really have such things at their disposal. A frown spread across the fox girl’s face before she ventured a glance at her own ship. She was out here for some peace and quiet. Hanging out with someone who acted so similarly to her brothers and sisters didn’t seem appealing in the slightest. Still, Sake couldn’t ignore the fact that the Ryashi woman saved her from the miniature dictator’s goons. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad since there was only one of her instead of the ten back on Earth. The Ryashi, who introduced herself as Kari-Ko, eagerly accepted the offer.
As Sake had suspected, Kari-Ko was a bit irritating to deal with. She was loud and annoying, and didn’t always get the meaning of ‘personal space’. However, the sense of familiarity served to quell the occasional homesickness she got during their travels. As much as she tried to insist that they were only partners due to it being mutually beneficial, there was a small part of her that enjoyed the familiar company in its new lowered dosage. All in all, it wasn’t so bad.
Oh, the adventures that were in store for this unlikely duo...
