The Kikoukenjutsu Sword School Part 1
This was a hard decision for Reiko. She was proud of studying under the Satan Legend, even if she hadn't stepped foot in it in eight years. However, she realized that if she were to ever truly evolve as a martial artist, she had to branch out and move on. One of the reasons she knew this was because she'd learned to control her ki from Yashagoro and Jiraiya personally, not the Satan school, and they learned it on their own. There was a whole world of martial arts outside of her amma mater, and she believed she found part of it. There were rumors about an ancient martial art, the Kikoukenjutsu,
as old the Satan style itself, that actually taught ki manipulation, but along side swordsmanship, and "teamwork," apparently. She also heard that a branch of it, the Boar Kikoukenjutsu was situated around the mountains, a rather short trip flying. In the end, she felt like there was no real reason or excuse to at least not satisfy her curiosity in the school.
When she finally arrived to what seemed to be the place, she was greeted by the site of a dozen or so students out front all in kendo-esque attire with practice swords. The students all seemed to be using two swords: a short sword in the off hand, and a longer on in the dominant hand. Reiko could already guess the choice of the boar as this sub style's symbol had that the use of two swords, the swords were the "tusk" of the boar. The only person with a real swords seemed to be a man who liked like an instructor. He was a dark skinned, bald, and tall man in medieval looking armor, and was watching over the students. Reiko immediately knew to approach him.
"This is the Boar Kikoukenjutsu school, correct?" She asked, and he nodded, suprised by the visitor."My name is Reiko Akoga, student of the Satan Legend. I've come here to match my Satan style against another, and to see if I can learn anything valuable from it."
The man seemed to be have tried desperately not the laugh, and mostly succeeded, but Reiko would already notice the insult. "The Satan Legend, huh? Well, we welcome all challengers and fighter form other schools. We encourage our own students to branch out, even. But," He paused, "Let's test that... Satan style of yours first. I, Shwarma , shall be your opponent."
"Osu!"
Reiko was more than happy to; she couldn't stand the very idea of someone not taking the mere mention of Mr. Satan, the greatest hero in Earth's history seriously. The two bowed, and the fight was on. Reiko was extremely gutsy, and swooped in for a DDT, right off the bat, slamming Shwarma in the ground face first. It actually worked, and created a small man shaped crater. Shwarma, however, was able to push himself up in no time.
Reiko took a dash back, retreating, her eyes glowing. She let out a blast from her eyes, but with a flick of his swords, he deflect both of them into the sky. This simply left Reiko aghast, and Shwarma made sure to take advantage of the situation; he instantly closed in the distance and attacked with a flurry of sword swipes. She managed to block them with her arms, but she began to noticed that were even starting to cut through her metal armor. She wondered what possibly could those swords be made from to make them so strong.
Shwarma shouted, seeming ready to take a vicious blow, but with a sudden burst of speed, Reiko disappeared, surprising him. She appeared behind him and shot him at point blank range from behind. It broke through his armor and caused him to be bleed. She was certain she was victorious, only to receive the wake up call of the long sword through her stomach and Shwama holding the short sword at her "throat". Reiko led out a solemn, "I concede."
"Oh ho ho ho ho!" Shwarma laughed as pulled out his sword form Reiko's torso and puttign them both back in their shieeths. "Excellent, Reiko, you do the Satan Legend proud. You almost had me there, but you let your gaurd down too easily. I do have one problem, though..." He said and then stroked his chin. "It was easy to gather that your body was fully mechanical, you're an android, it was reason I went all out. That might make teaching you our ki technqiues dificult, wouldn't it?"
"Yes, it would, Master Shwarma." Reiko bowed and nodded, disappointed.
"It matters not, I suppose. You have your own way of doing things in that department, that..." He looked down at his stomach. "...isn't too shabby. But first things first, we need to put a sword in your hand." He then looked off into the crowd of students. "Vera!?"
"Yes, Master Shwarma?" One of the students broke away from their practing and approached Reiko and Shwarma. Judging from the height and what she could make out from the face, this was a teenaged girl.
"From how on, this woman, Reiko, will be your partner. Give her her swords, but forget about the armor, she has her own. Just guide her throught he basic forms right now while... I get this checked." Shwarma said this calmy, but almost instantly ran off into the building, leaving Reiko alone with the teenaged girl. For a second, Reiko wondered why Shwarma would partner her, a mature middle aged woman, up with a mere child. After all, Shwarma even admitted that she almost defeated him. If not for the fact that she was only just starting the school, it would be absolutely absurd.Regardless, Reiko shurgged and turned to face Vera.
"So, you're also new to this school?" She asked in curiosity.
"Of course not!" Vera crossed her arms and scoffed at Reiko."I am the latest of the Aro family. We have been masters of the Kikoukenjutsu for generations." She then sighed and started walk towards of the wall of the dojo, where some extra swords were set up. Reiko followed.
"Really?" Reiko was genuinely impressed. "Continuing a tradition of a family of fighters. That is quite noble." She now figured that her being partnered up with Vera was no mistake, and that Swharma made the correct judgement.
"Yes, it is." Vera responded simply. She took a couple of wooden swords off the rack and handed them to Reiko. She almost imediately went back to her own training. "Do not break them. And pay attention. I do not want to have babysit you."
Reiko was able to catch on to the katas by the end of the day, though it was obviously from her movements that she was unfamiliar with a blade. Still, she recognized some movements and parts of the katas from ones of her unarmed form. She thought for a second that they might be related, she eventually came to the conclusion that there were only so many ways to actually do something, and that when do people or things do the same thing successfully, there's bound to be some overlap in the methods. Vera kept interrupting Reiko and correcting her on how to hold them swords correctly, how each motion was to be done, and the like. She has said multiple times that it was the last time that she was going to help Reiko, but the statements seemed to be useless.
As the two went on practicing thier forms, some of the other duos began to spar. Vera and Reiko decided to pay them no mind and go on with their own practice. However, with one powerful strike, one student sent his opponent's sword flying out his hand. And unfortunatley, it was headed towards Vera. Reiko caught this out the edge of her vision, dropped her short sword hit the flying sword with her own long sword as if she were playing baseball. There was a satisfying smack as the rogue sword flew again, but this time to a sage, unoccupied part of the field. Vera's eyes widened and she speechless as she tried to register what happened and looked upon her protector.
"Ugh!! You idiot. That is not the right technique for a deflection. Do you know just how easily you could have screwed that up?" She shouted this, then groaned, and finally slapped her forehead with her right hand, burying her face into it. The, she spoke softer. "But thank you."
