((x80 Gravity, learned 'Terra-Barrier' when approved))
Day three had passed with neither nary a problem nor a news announcement she could think about. Earth politics bored her but the event of every day life was interesting since it was like day and night compared to the hustle and bustle of space faring. To her, life was about always being able to move, being flexible about arrangements and adapting to the ever-changing machine that was survival.
To her, it was about always being one step ahead of the curve (and those who would search for you) but on Earth, it was survival in a more passive sense. Keep yourself safe, stay aware of your surroundings – but do your part in society and peace would be your reward. It boasted a team work that was honestly hard to tell from within – however, above the surface of the planet she could see the machination in action.
And it mystified her. She’d seen so many peaceful planets that had abolished their means of defense after the centuries of peace from the storm of the universe, but later fell prey to what could only be described as predatory opportunists like herself but in larger force. The saiyan people were one such force, among many that hid from the Galactic Patrols.
Zerori lounged in the mess hall, watching the video feed from her scouter as a new crew anchored the events of a crime spree that consisted of mugging across the south capitol city. As she did so, she had a homeland treat in her hand from Vegeta that consisted of raw Lentis meat, spiced with some stale remrat. Before she took a bite, she would heat it up to the point of popping with blood seeping out. It was her own take on eating the dish that she hated when she was a child. Back then, it was because she didn’t like the bitter taste of blood and the skin was too tough.
Now, she knew how to use her fangs to slice meat and the taste of blood – within reason – was an almost addicting sensation on her palate. Of course, she also enjoyed the raw obscenity of sex so that didn’t help matters.
Finished with her snack, and feeling a little more energized, she stood up from her spot at the table and walked to the door. It was back to the gravity chamber for her, but she needed to work on particular weaknesses she had – and figure out the intricacies of this new Memory Magic she possessed.
Upon entering the chamber, she spoke out to the computer in a bored tone, “Set it to times eighty for a while and bring up the program known as ‘Rock Solid’.” In her spare time to relax, she’d tried to study more and more of the trianary code that the ship ran on and gradually got the gist of it down. However, she could only do intermediary work on it. Within seconds, the opposing forces pushed down upon her body and she ground her teeth together and strength of it. At the same time, she was surrounded by the rocky outcroppings of mountains, dirt and a lot of towering cliff sides.
She evened her breathing out as her muscles forced themselves against the strain. Gravity or no, she’d abolished her weights for the sheer ability to withstand the abuse of the training she had to do. If she could just figure out how to bring her training to the preverbal battle field – nothing would stand in her way, not even her own weaknesses.
As her blood pumped faster within her body at the strain, she let out a loud battle cry before launching herself toward a rocky outcrop. Flames exploded around her as she threw fist as fist toward the wall of rock, and then would time her movements to catch them in the air with fast impacts as they flew and spun from the stone. Continuing this would improve her accuracy and bring her fighting power to equal her hits. It was basic but under these gravities, she needed to ascertain that she could still do basic. Once she was finished – or rather tired of hitting an unmoving rock to make little rock move – she decided to try and practice her speed and agility.
Her training went on like this, thinking of various ways to improve on skills she had already had – while getting her body accustomed to the pressure. However, none of it truly felt real or difficult. That last part was a lie – there was always difficulty but what she was missing was risk. What was she risking by training alone in a chamber that had no other flesh and blood participants inside of it? What was she gaining by doing the same thing over and over again until she could do it without looking at what she was hitting? As she continue this, the fact would more and more become apparent that what she was doing was pointless.
Finally, she let out a cry of frustration in a hit against the rock and scorched it into pieces, leaving only a blacked line of what many could see was a mountain. However, she didn’t care. What was it all, anyway?! Fake light and sound – tricking her into believing that she was hitting something tangible! It was so hilarious how ridiculous she thought everything was that she almost violently broke out into hysterics while attacking everything and nothing. Her body shook with the desire to release this rage and emptiness she felt, only to be bound by her rationality as a demon with the desire to keep her precious ship intact.
Her saiyan side, her demon side – they were both right. I have to keep control, She said in her mind, like a mantra, but I have to let it go as well… I need-! her mental postulation was halted by the sound of a door opening, however when she turned around – there was nothing there. Her eyes narrowed at the door, seeing it closed but no believing for a second that nothing had actually come through. When she looked around to try and think of something else, she was bowled over by an body throwing itself against her lower back.
Unguarded in that area, she was thrown to the ground and immediately struggled – throwing an elbow behind her but hitting nothing. When she managed to untangle herself from her attacker and look behind her, she sizzled in anger, “EMR!”
Above her with a fist held behind him was the armored hologram that she’d come to have a kinda-hate/really-hate relationship with and she was just about to scorch him when he pulled himself off of her and into a robotic posture that held no emotion or stance. He didn’t waste time, as usual, “I have come per request to assist in your ‘training’. Your reflexes need refining, Captain.”
Throwing a hand in the air after she got to her feet, she seethed, “What the hell do you know about training – first off – and second, my reflexes ARE FINE!” Coming down from her anger, she tried to pinch her nose and bring the headache she knew was building back down to keep her sanity intact, “And just… who requested-” before the words fully escaped her mouth, she stopped and shook her head with a sudden realization. “Ari…” As if to confirm, EMR tilted his head.
“Fascinating; your deduction skills are as fine as your ass,” He stated and she stilled.
“…What did you say?” She asked, more off guard than she had ever been in her life and very confused as to how she should react to him. He was a asexual as they came and to hear such a thing from him… “Are you malfunctioning again? And how did you attack me if your protocols are offline?”
He seemed to ignore her second question in favor of the first, “I have been requested to improve upon my ‘people skills’ by said young Ari. She suggested I start by complimenting your physical features in a manner you have previously responded positively to.”
When she was certain she knew what he was talking about, she stepped up close to his face, “My physical features don’t need a compliment from someone that can’t back them up,” She hissed, knowing that the phrase he’d heard was the very same one she’d allowed when she was ‘roughing’ it with a prospective ‘bed mate’. Running a hand through her hair, she changed the subject with a final warning, “Leave the compliments to ‘You’re pretty’ and be done with it. Now, are you gonna help me or attack me?” She demanded, glaring at him, “I’m looking for a new technique so can you help me with that?”
Embarking on the change of topic, EMR did what he does best and analyzed her various abilities like the computer he was integrated into, “You’re attacking power is modulated by the thermal manipulation of fire and your evasion defense is brought out by your manipulation of wind currents,” it almost mystified her how he summed up her abilities, having her shake her head a bit to get back down to earth, “-Using this a means to correlate a new means of creation, it would be a logical step to focus on a new element to control.” He paused and once more asked, a little out of character for him, “Would you like to play in the water, Captain?”
With a groan, she shook her head, “No, EMR, and stop calling me Captain. When I actually get a crew, I’ll do that but it’s just you and a little girl,” Getting back on topic, she did think seriously about his direction however, “Water is no good – that’d have to be the weakest direction to go and I want something strong and solid,” Looking around her, she went in the next direction, “Earth is around me right now and all I’ve done is break and destroy it. Maybe I should focus on the opposite of that…” Her voice trailed off as she thought about it in detail. EMR took this as his moment to speak.
“How did you learn your manipulation of wind and fire?”
She looked back at him, “Through the sprites and spirits that walk the ether plane of the Earth. Not many can see them, but those with magical ability can call them or be visited,” Looking around and away from the hologram, she grimaced, “It was through Pyrus that learned about elemental manipulation because I was…” Her face darkened and she looked toward the door, a scornful look on her face, “I was frustrated hat I couldn’t use energy.”
EMR took this information like a boss and calculated her chances, “Bringing your ability to enact with these ‘spirits’, it is as you said and you are surrounded by this new element. You should attempt to use this to your advantage and call them to this plane… or bring your own abilities to the forefront and try and manipulate the rock yourself.”
She grimaced at his over simplified answer to her problems and looked at him hard, “Do you have any idea what that entails? Lemme break it down for you…” She licked her lips and motioned to various places that rocks were as she fired as essential questions she needed answered, “What does earth feel like? How would I tell it to do what I want? Do I have permission to make it do what I want? What skills does this take and how do I make certain I don’t kill myself in the process? These,” She looked at him from down her nose, “Can you answer any of these? I’ve never called a sprite from the plane of the ether without being surrounded by the dense concentrations! And for your information – this hologrid is full of FAKE LIGHT!”
As if unsure what to say, EMR stared at her for a long time before he looked down in thought, “I was certain that you understood when I explained it before, Captain,” She sucked in breath but he wasn’t deterred, “This technology is not an illusion that can merely be explained as psudo-illumination. For instance, the computer told m that you created a recipe and used to atomizer to create sustenance.” He tilted his head at her, “Are you not still tasting that consumption? If it was fake, would you feel satisfied like many are after they have eaten?”
Zerori’s lips twitched at his explanation, realizing he had a point. However, she relented, “That doesn’t solve the problem of calling them. There’s not enough magical atmosphere to sustain a physical form-”
“That is pure conjecture based on an untested theory in a setting that you are unaware has an ample amount of this ‘energy’ you speak of. You are on Earth, are you not? Though there is a lesser concentration, this planet has more than enough electromagnetic pull and density to create an even spread of enough energy for your needs. You do not need to attack them or receive an attack from them,” He finished, his monotone voice almost driving her to madness, “You are seeking guidance, are you not?”
With a roar, she cried, “Yes, yes, fine! I’ll give it a fucking try!” Giving in felt dirty but he was just so fucking infuriating.
The process to call them being she needed, the elemental that restrained the earth and brought it to form for it to function as it does, has her dismissing EMR immediately. Finding a prayer that didn’t sound like she was begging was hard enough – saying in front of anyone else? Impossible. I’ll die before doing such in front of a flesh and blood person…
When a response came in the form of an earthquake around her, she swallowed nervously and hoped to the gods it wasn’t going to be like before with Pyrus. From the ground that broke apart came a hiss of air before she waited for the entity to arrive. When nothing came, she blinked and looked around hesitantly – her eye coming back to the hole in the ground. “H-hey, is anyone there?” Walking up to it, she peeked down in there but didn’t see anything. “What the fuck…?” She was confused and walked out, calling out for whomever had appeared to show themselves – could she just not see them?! What was going on?!
Her body shook with rage as she battled with her mind to try and figure out what had happened. With a growl, she lifted up a foot and smashed it back down into the ground. She wanted to the earth swallow her up, she was so ashamed that she couldn’t summon them. Had she done something wrong? With even greater force, she lifted her leg again and stomped with as much frustration as she could muster.
When the ground cracked and was pushed further beneath her boot, she didn’t see the darkness enveloped her before it was too late and she was trapped. Looking around, yet seeing nothing, she placed a hand against the rock that surrounded her, trying to move it or break it with gentle force. It wasn’t until she wanted freedom from the entrapment that the rock and dirt crumbled, leaving her confused and mystified like before.
What has she just learned to do?
