Good. He figured it out quickly… Zerori thought with the slightest bit of relief as she watched him use his abilities to indirectly affect the surroundings of the staggered partiers. If she wasn’t so intent on remaining stoic, she would have congratulated his efforts, however, the flaw of his plan rest solely in believing that at least one out of the hundreds of humans and anthrop among the party would see his convenient markers and use their sense of self preservation to follow them. She watched as they panicked wildly, pushing one another aside and throwing each other to the ground in order to crawl up and away from the flames. Some even had the bright idea to throw their beer and alcohol at the fires.
A smart and also foolish move, as the fires quickly ate and expanded from the new nutrients to it’s lethal heat. Above them, Zerori couldn’t help but smirk ever so slightly at the raw violence that ensued, soon reeling in her enjoyment by holding a hand to her mouth in mock-thought. Suddenly, however…
There’s our little winner, Zerori thought, seeing a singular man among the hundreds as he cautiously walked toward the kegs, dodging the violence as much as he could. When he reached it, she could see that he was following the odd blue arch to where it ended. Tilting her head, she could see him thinking through the chaos long enough to realize his chances and reach for the kegs. To some, this would look like he was a foolish drunkard, trying to save his beer when he could be killed by the very thing he held dear. However, there were a few that hadn’t imbibed in the toxin and saw what he was trying to do.
And little by little, the plan came together. A seemingly hopeless situation with death imminent at any moment, and all it took was one brave soul to bring the other together and save them selves. The Halfling grinned, glancing at the Doctor with a victorious smile. However, she couldn’t let the test end just there…
“They’ve escaped certain death, an impressive display,” She drawled, almost not sounding like herself, before a garish grin spread across her lips, “-but disaster can happen at any time… under any circumstances…” She raised her hands once more, and wind gathered around her, “-for any reason.”
It took only a moment, the heroic human still trying to calculatingly pour the keg onto the fires at a quick speed, before the closest flame that he was not paying attention to flared to life with vengeance. A cry rang out and Lunar would see with clarity that the man burned along his face and arms. He had moments. Lunar had seconds to respond. “How do they respond to pain, I wonder…” Zerori seemed to mumble, no longer paying attention to Lunar and watching the flames with an almost calm fascination.
Had he known Zerori longer than this night, he would see that she was not truly herself in these moments of excitement.

It had looked like his plan had worked. Good thing one of those party goers had a good head on his shoulders and figured out Lunar's plan. However, it seemed that Zerori wasn't going to let the test end so quickly. He watched as she sparked up one of the flames, setting the brave soul alight, watching him fall to the ground in pain as his face and arms were burnt.
Not going to let this end so soon huh? Well then, I'm not going to cave in either.
With a small smile, Lunar suddenly leaped from the roof they were standing on, bouncing from one roof top to the next, circling around the cul de sac until he was close to the alleyway that would be the victim's salvation. Partially to get a closer look, but also to offer a little bit more assistance. He crouched down, keeping out of sight.
I already gave them the clues. Now to bolster some resolve. I just hope their confidence didn't buckle so quickly.
Pressing his hand on the roof, a seemingly invisible field seemed to project out from around him, taking in some of the party goers as well, including the burnt savior. The Primal Field, a technique that allowed him to amplify the emotions of those within the field to a huge degree. Normally he would have used this to amplify one's fear, one's rage, to add to his dark nightmares.
This time wasn't the case. This time, he was hoping to amplify their confidence, the courage that they may have felt when a way out seemed imminent. This little confidence boost would hopefully help them keep a level head, to not lose faith after discovering the way out. It may even keep our burnt hero going, wanting to get out of here despite the pain he was feeling. His eyes looked up to look at Zerori, a small smirk on his face.

The flames danced among the bodies that didn’t make it, burning and charring them but there were only a handful of the dead. Their focus was on the male that thrash and flailed in agony at the heat that ate at his skin. It wouldn’t take long now; it was almost to his muscle… So enraptured was she, that she almost didn’t notice the good doctor move and jump around the surrounding buildings to place himself at a better vantage point for whatever plan he had in mind. Despite her unusual enjoyment of the savagery in her flames, she was brought back slightly from her revere by curiosity. He obviously had a plan of some sort in mind to deal with their hero’s problem.
Glazed red eyes widened when an almost invisible barrier, only slightly visible through the reflection of the light of her flames, enshrouded the people that were alive. She could see by now that they were almost tried and ready to pass out, sweat and tears and – blood for some – giving way to exhaustion. Everyone, if not evacuated in the proper amount of time, would collapse and die in the heat before being taken to the otherworld after death. But this barrier did something she did not expect.
Men and women whom were either too tired to move or far to afraid for their lives to try and venture toward the fires, started to talk amongst themselves. Then, after the very brief discussion, they moved – hesitantly, cautiously, but still moved all the same – toward the hero. Blankets that were used to cover the beer were being placed over him and smothering the flames. What would have been a tragedy for him, turning out to be barely scrapped up bravery for the many men and women whom did nothing before. When the blanket was removed, she was even taken back to see that he wasn’t yelling or bitching about his injuries. Even more surprising…
He stood up, biting down on his lip, and by extension his cries, before yelling at those brave enough to continue to douse the flames.
This act, whatever the field did, tore Zerori from the sadistic view of God she played, and she frowned deeply at herself and her actions. I was trying to show Doctor Mensis up, but instead was proven wrong… or was I? Do I even know the point I was trying to make? At her thought, she gave a shameful look toward the five partiers that didn’t make it and felt disgusted with herself. Who was she in that moment when she played god and killed those people? What point was there to taking their lives for the sake of an experiment? Did she gain anything from it?! Was there suddenly some new knowledge that she now had that would make their deaths easier to swallow?
No, there was none of that and she felt a deep, poisonous hand of despair reach out and rub her on the back. When she looked back at Mensis and eyed the smirk on his face, she knew she had lost. A devil had lost to another devil, playing a cruel joke on the humans that didn’t deserve it. Standing up from her position, she turned away and walked in the opposite direction of chaos, dissipating the flames on the like magic before she jumped off the building and landed in the darkened alley. Should he choose to follow, she wasn’t sure what words she could give him any longer – defeated as she was.

Lunar smiled as he watched his field having the desired effect, able to keep themselves calm long enough to save their hero, as well as managed to get to work to saving themselves. Though he had a feeling this wasn't the end of the test just yet.
Only, it was. Lunar's smirk faded when he saw Zerori's face fall, turning away and walking off, removing the flames as well. The partygoers, just moments away from saving themselves, were now horribly confused by their situation just solving itself. What was wrong? Why had she stopped? Was she upset that Lunar had managed to solve her little problem so soon?
Lunar quickly moved back to where they were before, seeing her down in the alleyway. He lept down, landing behind her. "Something the matter?" the red head tilted his head to the side in confusion. "I thought you'd be happy to see them manage to solve their problem. That was what you wanted, correct?"

It burned her on the inside when he had indeed followed her down to darkened alleyway. If solitude was what she desired after such a shameful display, she would be hard pressed to get it now. His words were inquisitive, yet she could the undertones of disappointment at her less than positive response. What was the matter? Zerori’s frown deepened so much that her lip bled from the contact of one of her fangs being pushed against the skin. Folding her arms against her chest, she leaned on the wall that was closest to her and refused to meet the other hybrid’s gaze as he continued, echoing exactly what she thought he would expect from her.
She spoke without facing him, “I’m relieved…” She began, her voice low and full of sorrow despite the admission, “-however, I did exactly as I admonished you about. You may not have realized it,” She paused, turning her face only slightly toward his but still keeping her line of sight on the ground, “-but I didn’t just continue that test for the simple sake of hoping they’ll pass.” At this point, she hoped he got the gist of what she was implying. In her mind, she was screaming in a rage ‘I murdered five people for nothing!’ but she felt like it would have been lost on him. It wasn’t…
Feeling the pot nearly bubble over, she snarled at the ground and felt her body nearly ignite in her own rage, “Those five deaths were absolutely pointless! What did I achieve besides making an example of them?! An example to what point?!” Throwing her arm up and then backwards, the back her fist embedded a shape that cracked and shattered piece of metal around her knuckles. “I intended to test YOUR resolve; not theirs. I intended to prove YOU wrong and bring it to light that even though humans can persevere and stand up taller, stronger and smarter than before, they were not meant to be changed!”
It took her a solid minute before she could feel the flickering of flames around her body dim before they emblazoned one last time and flickered out. Her eyes were no longer a fiery red, but a dull blue. In spite of her diminished features, her voice was still scathing, “I have compromised what little moral compass I had to prove a point that didn’t exist; that is why I am upset, Doctor Mensis.”

Ah, so THAT was what was bothering her. Guilt. She felt like a monster for causing the deaths of those five people. He could see her point clearly. Even though he filled the minds of men with horrific nightmares, he never put them in a life threatening situation. Any pain and possible death that resulted was entirely of their doing, not Lunars. She on the other hand had put them in a life and death situation. One where Lunar had to indirectly interfere in order to ensure their survival.
"I understand what you're going through," he said, his voice surprisingly soft, "I know that there have been times where my illusions have resulted in the deaths of others, against my intentions. It is NEVER my intention to kill"
He stepped close, placing a surprisingly gentle hand on her shoulder. "However, you're wrong about one thing. Those five deaths were NOT pointless. If nothing had changed, then they would have been pointless. But things have changed. And I think you'll find it's for the better."
He walked around her, taking off his shades so his red eyes looked into hers. "Look at those that survived. After going through an experience like that, it can only make them stronger. Especially our little hero. I may have intervened, but they didn't know that. There's an old saying. "Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." I'd definitely say it applies. Who knows what they could achieve now, with the confidence that they could survive in such a situation?
And then, well, there's myself as well. Before, I would have just sat back and watched them. If they burned, I would have just ruled it off as an evolutionary failure. But, you made me realize something. Nobody can change if they're dead. My work would be pointless if it only resulted in death. I can put them through straining situations, but I can also help them to ensure they survive, to ensure that they become stronger due to the experience."
A small, sympathetic smile appeared on his face. "I'd say that's far from pointless, wouldn't you say?

How do I find these types of people? Zerori thought as she would gradually look up from the ground to give him a cool expression, her mouth parted slightly as she listened to his words. It was different feeling, receiving words of understanding from the man she was certain was against her – it was almost unnatural how she felt, so enclosed, as he spoke. These feelings of shame and disgust, combined with this new side of him that didn’t make sense, threw her for a loop. Do I even understand what I’m doing anymore? She thought with a defeatist attitude. She almost wanted to shrivel up and disappear before his direction changed and he told her how she was wrong.
Her lips twitched upwards, “I seem to be told how wrong I am more and more often, these days…” When he laid a hand on her shoulder, her body heated up and she flinched almost violently. It was meant to be of a comforting nature, she was sure of that, but when she felt him touch her – an almost feral sensation rushed through her body. To abate this wild electricity that ran through her, she kept her gaze on his hand. It wasn’t until she glanced up at him during his admission to her changing his views that her eyes visibly widened in surprise.
“I…I-what?” She stuttered as he was speaking and it only when he was done that she could hear her own heartbeat in her ears. Blood rushing faster through her than she could manage, and an almost ephemeral light that seemed to push her towards him and his eyes. I can’t let this get the better of me! her rationality told her firmly but she could feel it slipping as he waited for an answer.
Just as she was sure her body would nearly embrace him – in whatever rush of emotions she couldn’t discern – she leaned forward just past his face and laid a chin on his shoulder. For a moment, she just kept her chin there unmoving – to him, she was sure he’d be confused but it was precious seconds she needed to regain her composure and to proverbially catch her breath.
Finally, she let out a sigh and applied a little weight to his shoulder, “Thanks…” A simple gift of gratitude, but her face was a mix of frustration and shame – held together by a fanged pout she didn’t want him to see.

Lunar wasn't sure what to expect, but not really this. His eyes widened and a small blush appeared on his pale cheeks as Zerori suddenly leaned in, resting her chin on his shoulder. He stood still for a moment, unsure what to do before he heard her sigh and offer her thanks. Still, she didn't seem to move. Slowly, Lunar brought his arms up, wrapping them around her in a gentle hug. "You're welcome," he replied softly, gently holding her.
It was strange. When he first met her, he hadn't expected to be hugging her in an alleyway before the end of the night. Still, it felt sort of nice. He hadn't been with anyone in a long time (and that was even before...those events...he was very absorbed in his studies). He really wasn't sure what to do. Should he keep hugging her? Should he say something?
"So..." he spoke up after a moment of silence, "Is there anything you want to do now?"

He better stop before he learns my nature, She thought slyly as he raised his arms tentatively around her in an impromptu hug. Whereas before she was chilled by his presence at first, it warmed her ever so slightly. Was it because Snippar hasn’t been around that much? She mused but laughed it off when the good doctor asked what she wanted to do next. In her mind, thanks to the effects of the Makyo Star, there were a whole lot of things she wanted to do with him. Being the demonic inclination of a feral saiyan beast tended to have an effect on ones libido and hers… it was beyond a shadow of a doubt that her nymph-like nature was the by-product of her botched genetics. In short: He was about five seconds from being jumped and nearly literally torn apart.
However, it was with very inhuman strength, that she pulled back from him and grinned. Why be coy with the truth when you could be honest and reap the reaction, “I’d like to do many dark and [/disastrous[/i] things to you, dear doctor,” She chuckled in a sultry manner, twitching an eye brow up as she did so, “-but since I like you and I know for a fact you’d never survive it with that number you call a power of yours – I’ll settle for something worth remembering.”
Treating herself, she leaned into the deliver – and in turn, reward herself – a passionate lip lock. Without getting into all the knitty, gritty – but oh, so delicious – details, she leaned back after a few moment with a lick of her lips. Releasing him with a turn and a wave, she sauntered off down the alley before declaring loud for him to hear, “Now I think you owe me a little privacy, if you know what I mean…”

Now, Lunar had never once claimed to be a hit with the ladies. Even back in his days as a lowly scholar, he tended to keep to himself. That's probably why Zerori's sudden kiss knocked him into such a loop. He had taken blows from Saiyans, had his head slammed into walls, and he always got back up. THIS on the other hand. It completely took his breath away.
It took him a brief moment to regain his senses, and by the time he did, Zerori was sauntering away from him, calling over her shoulder about getting some privacy. While he hadn't had much experience with women, the doctor certainly knew what she meant by that.
"Erm, ok," he said, sounding surprisingly out of it. Did her kiss seriously do that much? "I'll see you again some time...I hope." With that, he turned and staggered (why the heck was he staggering!?) out of the alleyway into the streets. His face was still flushed and anyone who saw him might have possibly mistaken him for a drunk. Not that Lunar really cared. Right now, he had one goal in mind (well, apart from bringing about mankind's evolution).
And that was get himself stronger for his next meeting with the demonic saiyan vixen.
