“C'mon Maeve! Let's git it on!” The ever excited Scampi Shrimp called out as he pulled out his wooden blade and pointed it towards the demoness standing a few feet in front of him. She smiled softly as she took her own training sword (a wooden blade Scampi managed to get a hold of for her) in hand and pointed it towards her young friend, mirroring the teen's challenging stance. The two were standing at the sandy shore where Scampi first found the youngest heiress of the Rakshasa clan. It was a warm summer's day, the sun was shining high above the two though a cool breeze kissed their faces making the heat a touch less harsh.
Maeve looked to the teenager with a soft grin as she held her sword with pride. Her spiky ruby locks as well as her extravagant violet cape billowed lightly in the cool breeze as she took a moment to size up the boy before her. He had come quite a ways since they first met, since their first 'duel' Scampi had been readily training under Maeve in their off time. She didn't fancy herself a teacher, at least not at first, but Scampi had proven to be quite the good student. The progress he had displayed in their short time training together was proof of that. The way he carried himself and his wooden sword was more natural but refined at the same time. He looked more confident with his blade in hand and seemed less like a dreamer and more like a credible warrior.
“Are you sure you're ready to challenge me again? Now that I've got a wooden blade there's no need for me to hold myself back.” The dragoness responded in a cool tone as she smirked. She knew full well that Scampi wasn't going to back down. The human was always scrambling to test his limits. That was why Maeve had such an easy time training him and why he made such promising progress. She tilted her head lightly as she awaited his response.
“Darn straight! I know I'll win this time!” Scampi snapped, bristling slightly at the demon swordswoman's direct provocation. He cut the air with his wooden blade and rest it at his side as he glared down at the girl. “In fact...If y'all manage to beat me I reckon y'all would be strong enough to be taught my secret move! The Thunderin' Thrust!” He smirked, building himself with false courage before readying himself in his new and improved fighting stance. “I reckon I'm gonna be tough as nails since y'all taught me about that Ki whatsit!” He declared.
“Fine, I was curious about that technique regardless. So now I'll win for sure.” Maeve said as she shifted into her stance. Both clawed hands gripped the handle of her wooden blade as she readied herself. The two sword wielders took a solitary moment of silence letting the world slow to a still around them. The two warrior's looked into each others eyes, their expression fierce before they moved forward to preform the chaotic dance of battle.
Sand kicked up behind the two of them as they ran on the unsteady ground and towards each other. As soon as Scampi was within striking distance Maeve would lift up her wooden blade and send it crashing down towards Scampi's pot covered head. The blade was lighter than Fateburn so her movements were quicker and harder to read though her damage output was far less. Despite her quick movement however: Scampi lifted his blade up and managed to block the overhead swing. The boy's eyes narrowed as he shook lightly from the force of the impact. “Dang Maeve, y'all really are goin' all out huh?” He gasped, obviously not believing the demoness' first claim.
“Not all out, but enough...Training with a demon means pushing past your limits! Find what's holding you back within yourself and overcome it!” The woman snarled, the fierce look in her golden eyes remaining fixated on the boy's gaze. She thought back to her training with her father and how similar the situation was now. It was harsh, but without her father's tough methods she wouldn't have gotten as far as she had. After that moment of thought: Maeve would merely pull away from blade lock. Before Scampi could react to the separation Maeve spun in place using the momentum to send a large clawed foot into the human's chest. The force of her graceful kick sent Scampi sliding away but he regained his balance and prevented himself from falling over.
Maeve launched towards Scampi as soon as he recovered, she brought her blade above her head in preparation for another punishing cleave. Scampi wasn't going to be caught unaware a second time though. He lowered his stance and with a bit of a growl he'd gather his energy into his legs, a pale white aura building around his figure as he built up the 'ki' that Maeve was talking about in her previous training sessions. “YEEHAW!! THUNDER THRUST!” After gathering his ki he blitzed forward and thrust his wooden sword out in an attempt to slam the blade into Maeve as she was charging forward.
“NOT GONNA WORK!” Maeve yelled out as she suddenly cleaved down, her sword crashing into his deflecting all the force of the the Thunder Thrust to the sandy ground below. A wave of sand exploded up and around them as the combined force of the cleave and thrust hit the beach. Their gaze met in the chaos and remained locked as the sand fell all around the two. Scampi was the first to pull his sword away this time however and before Maeve could recover he'd swipe at her side slamming the blunt weapon against the dragoness' ribs.
Maeve coughed, the rush of pain from the well placed strike catching her slightly off guard. He had gotten much stronger in such a short amount of time. Though she wasn't looking to lose. She had to be a constant obstacle that he pushed himself to pass. That was the only way he'd get strong, if he had a goal to meet.
Mave's foot stomped into the sand as she regained her footing. Her amber eyes narrowed as she swung her blade towards him with a swipe mighty enough to create a gust of wind. Scampi desperately tried to pull his sword up and block the mighty swing but the force alone caused his defense to crumple and let the attack break through. Her blade smashed into his shoulder. She smacked into him hard enough to force him to be airborne, the remaining force caused his form to spin once before he crashed into the sand.
“S-Such power! Y'all are more fierce than Pa on the Barbeque!” He coughed, sending a bit of sand and a shell he swallowed from the landing to the ground. He wasn't ready to give up though. He stood up and held his sword ready as he thought of a strategy. Maeve however wasn't going to wait around for him. As soon as he was up with his sword drawn the demoness was at the ready. She rushed towards him and tried to strike him quickly in the chest with her hilt.
Scampi rolled out of the way of Maeve's swift jab only to send a powerful slash at the dragoness' shins with the intent of tripping her up. She let out a cry as his strike rung true. The jolt of pain and speed of the slash caused her to stumble and hit the ground hard. He grinned as the satisfaction of landing a solid hit filled him. Maeve pulled herself up and glanced back to Scampi, a soft pleased smile on her face. “G-Good... Much better than I was expecting...” She said as she held her sword up and pointed it towards him. “How about I go a little bit more seriously. Think you can handle it?”
Scampi nodded shifting into a more defensive stance. Ready for whatever Maeve had in store for him. “Alright, get ready!” The dragoness cried out as she stopped holding herself back and began to gather the rest of her power. She growled lowly as a black and red aura sparked around her form, her muscles tensing from the ki flowing through her form. She still wasn't at her full strength (The weights she was wearing easily cut her total power by half) but it was at least twice the boy's power. She glared down at the smaller boy, her violent aura kicking up sand around her as she lowered down. “Try to stand after this one! Demon Skull Beheading!” She cried out as she leaped into the air, using her charged energy to propel herself higher than she could reach naturally. She cut the wooden blade in an downward arc as she began to quickly fall towards Scampi.
His eyes widened in shock as the blade met it's mark slamming into the brass pot that covered his head. His entire body rattled from the powerful slam to his head causing him to shake from the top down. “G-G-Guuuhhhh D-D-Dogoneit!” He cried out, teeth chattering as the impact passed through him. “Ooooh” He groaned, as the shaking finally stopped only for him to collapse in a heap on the beach.
Maeve blinked, looking down to the human as he lay before her as a crumpled mess. Her eyes widened suddenly and her headfins seemed to perk in alarm. “Scampi?!” She cried out in a high pitched tone (it was almost a meep). Had she gone too far?! Was he hurt?! She knelt down and scooped him up into her arms. “Scampi...Scampi are you okay?” She asked looking down to her friend with an expression of pure concern.
“M-Ma the cranberry pie smells great...” He muttered in a dazed tone. Though this daze only lasted a second, he quickly shook it off and stood up (if a bit shakily.) Maeve smiled brightly, seeing her friend was alright and that she didn't (completely) overdo it. “Awww Maeve is that smile fer me?” He grinned, happy that she was worried for him. Maeve pulled away from him quickly, letting him drop into the sand. She stood crossing her arms.
“No messing around.” She snipped frowning suddenly, with a lack of amusement. “Get up. You said you'd teach me that move of yours didn't you?” Maeve smiled softly, as she watched Scampi get up and brush his clothes off. “I'd like to see if I can refine it, make it even better.” She said leaning down to pick up Scampi's sword. She tossed it over to the son of the farmer who caught it with a blink. “Now lets go...”
Scampi grinned and gave her a single nod. "Alright...Let me show you it again..."
After a while, Maeve managed to refine the move making it even more effective. Scampi's form was already pretty good and the idea was there but with greater ki control and a more steady sword arm made the powerful: Thunder Thrust something to be truly feared!
"Get ready!" Maeve cried out, she lowered her knees and held her normal blade: Fateburn, up and close to her form. Her grip was tight on her blade but her energy was focused all in her legs. Her eyes narrowed as she continued to pool her energy within her. "Here goes! Thunder Thrust!" She called out in a fierce roar as she lurched ahead releasing all the stored energy in her legs with a might leap making her suddenly shoot forward like a screaming bullet.
She was fast, faster than normal but she was only moving in a straight line. At the peak of her lurch she would suddenly stop and thrust her blade forward, the momentum she gained being transferred completely to the great cleaver. With a thrust that was swift as the wind she would pierce the air creating a bit of a gust that sent the sand beneath her blasting forward...
With a content smile, Maeve would place her sword at her side with a flourish before crossing her arms. With this new move mastered she would surely be able to use it to help stop any and all that would bring chaos and misery to the mortal realm.
