Lines. The world was made up with countless upon countless of lines. Hundreds, thousands, millions, who could count? Each of these billions upon billions of lines made up an image that everyone registered everyday. Some people took these images for granted, who could blame them? Not everyone could see the beauty in the intricate little details that surrounded one's every day life. It was an artist's job to not only create new beauty in the world, but to also remind the world of the beauty that already existed.
At least, that's what Nicolas' teacher had told him.
Nicolas sat deep within the Bamboo Forest with a sketchbook in lap and pencil in hand. The man had a mess of medium length brown hair, a neatly trimmed beard, and a pair of thick framed glasses that rest in front of his forest green eyes. He was currently dressed casually: sporting a red, short sleeved collared shirt with a pair of dark jeans and sneakers. At his side was his backpack that was overstuffed with a multitude of disorganized papers, books, and supplies. He was a bit disorganized and messy but his fixation on his work was something to be admired.
Artists were capable of reminding everyone how beautiful even the simplest of things could be. They could take a few lines to a paper and make something moving. Something that could make a person with a heart of stone feel genuine warmth. Something that could bring joy, sorrow, or anger to the viewer. They thrived on bringing an emotional response with their work. It was their goal and their purpose.
Though, if artists were supposedly so capable...Why couldn't Nicolas get this line right?!
"Dammit all!" As Nicolas let out his frustrated yell he would throw his arms up in the air in an overly dramatic display of his sheer exasperation. The young man was currently failing a mission: he was tasked with going somewhere away from the city to capture the beauty of nature. He had decided he would attempt to render the image of the Eastern Lands' Bamboo Forest in a sketch. While the breathtaking visage of impossibly tall stalks of bamboo was inspiring, he had trouble capturing their beauty through his art. Why was he so distracted? Why couldn't he just slow down and make something worthwhile? What was stopping him?
The man closed his sketchbook and sighed heavily. He leaned back and looked up at the bamboo stalks that pierced the clouds. The sky was clear today, there were a few clouds here and there but they weren't a threat to Nicolas' day. Even if there was a little rain here our there Nicolas could just fly above it and head home if he needed to. The young man smirked softly at the thought. There was such an odd feeling knowing that he was able to fly about with absolute freedom. There was something magical about the way the wind blew back one's hair while flying to the horizon at amazing speeds.
His superhuman abilities were all pretty amazing though... It was a shame that his skills with a pencil weren't super powered too!

Tess's feet brushed the grass as she danced on her tiptoes infront of the victorian home, she continued into the bamboo stalks her red skirt a becon of color other than the lush green that encompassed the forest. King followed suit behind her, the black and white tuxedo cat danced on his hindlegs. Tess laughed and paused for a moment to pat her sweet familiar, King pushed her hand away, "Aw come on mom. You're gonna mess up my fur." Tess crossed her arms, "Oh whatever haha! Hey head back home I'm gonna go to the pond for a while." King looked back in slight protest but headed home, he really didnt like to go near so much water. Tess slowly approched the pond's edge, the metal pail clinked as she sat near the waters edge. Her long golden curls spilled over her shoulders as she gazed into the water's surface, the week had been so dull since she finished off those hunters. She turned her gaze to the tree line, Maybe a day in town this week would cure my boredom? She shook her head in disagreement with herself, she didnt want to deal with humans again just yet. She sighed in frustration.

There was a certain freshness about the day Alex hadn't felt in a long time. He looked at the sky with a happy sigh, a small amount of clouds in the sky. He could tell simply by looking that it was going to sprinkle soon, which made him even happier. The thought of a light sprinkle never failed to refresh his spirits. Today he was going to go to the Bamboo Forests in the eastern lands. He didn't plan on it, but it was a good day not kill anything. the world was too beautiful today for violence on his part. Going inside his cave, he grabbed a sketch book and a small box of artist pencils. He jumped from the edge of his cave's mouth and onto the forest floor, careful not to drop anything. Then turned toward the Bamboo forest. He ran with the graceful speed of flight, but lacking the vertical bobbing of it. He dashed over to the forest, toward a pond he had seen before. It took him longer than expected to get to the pond, about 20 minutes. He remained standing over the pond, in taking it's beauty. He sat down, taking out his paper and pencil, beginning to draw.

Nicolas closed his eyes and leaned back further, and before long his head was resting atop the soft earth beneath him. He sighed, trying to clear his thoughts and relax for a moment. Relaxing was easy though, everything seemed so peaceful... So quiet... He took a breath of the fresh, crisp, air before sighing softly His eyes slowly opened as he looked up to the sky once more. He stared at the passing clouds, he cracked a smile as he imagined himself flying around once again. He blinked however, as he noticed something strange on the horizon.
"...What is?" He narrowed his eyes as he watched something move through the air. He blinked, seeing the young man literally running across the sky. He sat up quickly with his eyes wide as he watched the strange sight pass by overhead and end up passing him. He stood up, scratching the back of his neck with a confused expression before sifting through a few stalks of bamboo to see where the stranger had landed. He paused, as he came upon a shimmering body of water.
"Woah, I never thought there'd be a whole pond out here." Nicolas said adjusting his glasses as he stepped out into the clearing. "This place is just full of surprises..." He said chuckling to himself as he looked around. He nearly forgot why he came out this way in the first place.

Listen to: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjMets4EDjsTess dipped her metal bucket into the crystal clear water, she sat it on the grass and sat on her knees next to it as she cupped her hands together to scoop up water from the bucket. She sipped the water from her hands just as King walked up, she emptied her hands and wiped them on her skirt, "Hmm? What are you doing here?" King spread his arm and shook slightly, Tess noticed a thick clear substance covering his fur, She politely covered her mouth with her fingertips, "Oh did...?" King glared at her "Yes your stupid gargoyle sneezed on me!!" Tess's eyes watered up as she held in her laughter, "So I guess your bath will have to come early this month, huh?" The black and white cat stood on the bank as he stared down the rippling water with resentful trepidation. Tess laughed heartily as she ran pass King then leaping into the large glistening pond in only her undergarments and a white slip (a slip is a light dress undergarment worn with a dress or skirt). King was blasted by water from Tess's leap, He sighed as he slowly waded into the water, he sat in a shallow part and scrubbed the snot off his fur. Tess waded up to the shallows and spun around on her toes in ankle deep water but then came a sound *plip*.........*plip plip* suddenly the sky let down a strong wind with cool rain, her face brightened up with joy as she thew her head up to face the rain. She smiled at King as she left the water for a moment to grab her radio, She grinned as she pressed play. The music echoed through the trees, Tess spun on her toes as she let water fly off her hair, she crossed stepped to the side and spun again, King looked up to see her dancing. He may hate water but he love dancing. without hesitation he was dancing at her side. She arched her body as she thrust back, her song and dance seemed to encourage the down pour.

[Skipping Alex]
Nicolas blinked as he heard the unmistakable sound of water displacing in a loud splash near him. “Hm? What was that?” He asked himself as he made his way along the edge of the pond. He wasn't sure what was driving him forward. He supposed it may have just been his simple curiosity, after all whatever made the nose was probably just something he could shrug his shoulders at and continue on his way... Though, he may also run into that person who was running across the air earlier so that was a good enough reason to continue. He breifly wondered who they were, and if they were friend or foe for that matter.
His thoughts ceased as the ran started coming down. He looked up as a few droplets landed on his head causing him to wince lightly. “Ack! It's raining?! What the heck, the sky was just clear a moment ago!” He complained as he decided to hurry on ahead. If anything maybe he could find a bit of shelter so he didn't get soaked from the water raining down from above. The sound of his footsteps crushing into the moistened dirt echoed out around the pond as he jogged around avoiding the rain as it fell around him. Eventually he would stop however as he was treated to a sight he wasn't expecting.
Dancing in the pond while listening to some pop music on a hand held radio was a shapely beauty with long locks of wavy blond hair that was slick by both the water of the rain and the pond she was happily splashing about in. The woman was clad in only her undergarments practically baring herself for the world to see as she thrust back, arched her figure, and moved to the pounding beats of the pop song. “H-Holy shit.” He stammered, his eyes widening briefly as he stumbled backwards. The sight actually knocked him off his feet. The young man covered his eyes, realizing that he was intruding and blushed heavily. “S-Sorry! Sorry! I thought you were...Someone else.” He quickly said as he tried to excuse himself.
Still, even with his eyes covered, he couldn't get the image of the blond beauty out of his mind. He shook his head trying to literally shake the image out but the image and his heavy blush remained. “I-I should just go.” He stammered, moving his hand away and quickly moving to a stand. With a rigid stance he turned away and readied to make his exit.

Tess slowly stopped spinning as she turned in the direction of the sound of fumbling and a voice, she crouched down and cautiously walked around the Bush. She stood up when she saw it was just a regular male human, not a with hunter, but her eyes still scanned him for weapons. When she was satisfied he wasn't a threat she lean down toward him with wide eyes, "Who? Who are you?" She tilted her head in curiosity. King creeped up to Tess and stood just behind her leg, his pupils in slits never moved away from the stranger, and his tail twitched in excitement.
“S-Sorry! Sorry! I thought you were...Someone else.” He quickly tried to excuse himself as he held a hand over his eyes. He started to shake his head, she leaned in closer as she gingerly used two fingers to move his hand away from his eyes, his face was bright red like he was I'll or something. "Are you alright?" she gently placed the back over her hand on his forehead, King glared at the stranger, "Maybe he's "special" or something," he made air quotes with his paws as he said special. She gave King a stern look in response, "King."
“I-I should just go.” He stammered as he stood to flee. Tess waved her hand and suddenly she was dressed, "Hold on a minute!" She grabbed his wrist, to prevent him from running, "You shouldn't be this deep into bamboo forest, it isn't safe." King chimed in, "Make sure you leave the way you came!" he grinned, pleased the strange would be leaving and away from his mother.

His eyes widened as he felt the girl firmly grab his wrist and implore him that it was dangerous for him to go off and that the woods. He smiled a bit and shook his head. "Oh no, you don't have to worry about me... I'm a bit more capable than I look. Plus I can run and hide really fast! Really!" He spoke with a bit of an awkward chuckle. That was a super lame excuse, he probably looked like an idiot (Or at least more of an idiot) in front of the golden haired beauty. He, of course, didn't want to flat out tell her that he fought all sorts of baddies and villains on an almost daily basis as the costumed super hero of West City. He couldn't explain that whatever the woods threw at him couldn't be worse than the psychotic cyborg: Darksteel or the silver haired monster who nearly destroyed a whole town in the mountains. He decided a little lie would be harmless enough so he stuck with his stupid and lame statement.
"Thank you for the concern though, I didn't hear that this place was supposed to be so dangerous...I guess that's why more people don't come out here. It's really quite beautiful." He said as he lightly pulled his arm away from the girl. He stood still and didn't run off like the woman was expecting though upon freeing himself. He seemed a bit more confident and willing to chat now that she was dressed more appropriately. Still, he couldn't help but eye the young witch even now. Though, there was an annoying little furball that seemed to be orbiting around her. One that was glaring daggers at him the more he seemed to stick around.
The young man cut his gaze to the smarmy cat that seemed to relish picking at him. The little bastard was rude and a bother. He even insinuated that he was mentally challenged at one point! The young man merely smiled though and kept up a happy facade. "This brilliant little fella must be your cat huh? Not often you get to see a non Zoanthrope cat talking." He said directing his attention to Tess briefly before returning his gaze to the cat. "It must be frustrating being that smart but being that small. Guess you just got the short end of the genetic stick huh?" He said with a smile and a laugh but the cat might have been able to pick up a hint or two that Nicolas may have been blatantly mocking him.
"Ah sorry, I just realized I've gone all this time without introducing myself. I'm Nicolas, but you can call me Nic if you'd like." He said cracking a smile as he looked to Tess and offered her his hand. She'd notice right away that the hand was covered with gray smudges from the pencil lead.

"Oh no, you don't have to worry about me... I'm a bit more capable than I look. Plus I can run and hide really fast! Really!" he spoke with an awkward chuckle, Tess's brow furrowed lightly in confusion, "Ah oh..... That's nice?" King and Tess exchanged confused glances. The stranger gently pulled away from her, "Thank you for the concern though, I didn't hear that this place was supposed to be so dangerous...I guess that's why more people don't come out here. It's really quite beautiful."

He said directing his attention to Tess briefly before returning his gaze to King "It must be frustrating being that smart but being that small. Guess you just got the short end of the genetic stick huh?" Once again King and Tess exchanged glances, he then looked back up to him, "I'm a familiar not a zoantalope or whatever," Tess scooped up her large soaking wet cat, "King is more like my child than anything else." Tess shook off water from the rain that continued to pour.
"Ah sorry, I just realized I've gone all this time without introducing myself. I'm Nicolas, but you can call me Nic if you'd like." He said cracking a smile as he held out his hand, "Well, Nicolas," She shook wet hair out of her face, "I'm Tess, and I need to get somewhere dry." She smiled and ran off early touching the grounds as she headed home deeper into the forest.

"...Dry?" He repeated with a question at the young woman's mention of 'finding someplace dry' Nicolas would shift his gaze upward. His eyes twitched as droplets of water smacked against his glasses. He nearly forgot about the rain, this strange girl and even stranger cat seemed to absorb his attention for a bit. (Granted, in Tess' case it was hard to look away from her.) The young man blinked as he heard the girl's footsteps starting to disperss as she set off in a playful jaunt. He looked down causing the rain on his lens to fall obscuring his vision for a moment. Through the blur he caught the witches smile before she suddenly disappeared into the stalks of bamboo.
He held his hand out and opened his mouth as he wanted to call out. Just as suddenly as he had met the girl with the golden hair she disappeared. What was that about? Did he scare her off? Was she expecting him to follow? What if he did and she wasn't expecting him? What was with that smile though? A blur of indecisiveness buzzed in his brain as he just kind of stood there dumbstruck. He really wasn't expecting the girl to just leave without excusing herself or saying any farewells. Though her smile, that stuck out in his mind for some reason...
Then another thought hit...She said this place was dangerous and that there were some monsters or something roaming about. He lowered his hand and started moving in the direction the girl practically skipped off towards. His green eyes searched for signs of her as he moved through some of the woods. He paused upon seeing a glimpse of the girl turn around a corner as she made her way back to her home hidden among the bamboo. "Hey! Hold on a second!" He called out as he struggled to keep up a bit, from the looks of it Tess had her path memorized, it made him wonder about the girl even more... If she was so convinced that the woods were so dangerous why did it seem like she was so familiar with them?
"Tess! Hold on a bit, you said this place was dangerous right? Do...Do you want me to walk you home or..." He began to call out only to trail off as he stopped in his tracks. He blushed with embarrassment as he realized how he might look chasing after a girl he literally just met. He ran a hand through his wet hair as he turned... Maybe she didn't hear him? Well, maybe she did. He mused that if she didn't respond that it probably was a good sign to turn and let her be..." So fighting back his flush from his impulsiveness he would turn and listen for a response.

youtu.be/Sl2HeP8RlfU"Tess! Hold on a bit, you said this place was dangerous right? Do...Do you want me to walk you home or..." He began to call out after her only to trail off as he stopped in his tracks. He blushed as he ran a hand through his wet hair as he turned. Tess slowed down and gracefully spun around to face him, thunder clashed overhead, as the sky grew darker her bright blue irises seem to glow, Why did she stop? She tilted her head slightly in curiousity as she questoned herself. Why did you stop? what do you want? He doesnt know who you are... WHAT you are. Maybe he can help us? No. look at his hands hes just a human artist. Beggars cant be choosers, I guess. Anyone may be him. the right one. Did she think.... She suddenly approched him, her body seemed to glow slightly, she came close to his face, her glowing eyes bore into his as she stared, "I will trust this one with a task, yes?" She slid a finger down his jawline as her pupils dialated to pin points, the entire aura of the forest seemed to change including her own. In the growing darkness only Kings glowing green eyes were visable from afar but his growling voice seemed to be farther away that his eyes were, "Tsk He's not the right one." Her eyes moved slowly to look to her right, then down, her long eyelashes heavy with water droplets. "This one is not the right one but he'll work for now!" She looked up to him and grinned, with a clash of thunder and a flash of lightning she held out her hand, "Come with me!" And off she went again with King close behind. She stopped in a rather large clearing near the heart of the forest, at the edge of he clearing was a old two story plantation style house partly reclaimed by the forest, shingles were covered in moss and varius other plants, pots of flourishing herbs and flowers decorated the top and bottom porches. Slowly the rain and darkness finally vanished and sunlight pierced through the clouds. She spun and used a small burst of energy to dry herself off, she tangled her fingers in her long golden mane, "So much better~!" she gracefully sat down onto a mossy log as she fussed with her hair. When she was satisfied, she gazed her blue eyes to Nicolas, "Do you believe in magic? Or science?" She tilted her head one way and then the other, but after that her mood seemed to drop, "I am a hunted creature. Nicolas. And I am not strong enough to keep fighting." King seemed irritated with her decision to use this one's help, but he sat by her loyally.

Nicolas could only watch as the girl stopped and slowly turned to face him. Their gaze met, his forest green gaze intermixed with the electric blue hues of the witch. The two stood staring at each other in the darkness of the rain. Confusion filled the air between them as they each questioned themselves and wondered... 'What am I doing?' She wondered why she stopped, and he, he wondered why he followed...
The moment of still wonderment was broken as the girl made her first step towards him. He stared, his eyes widening beneath his glasses as the girl came towards him. The witch seemed to have an ethereal glow about her as she effortlessly glide towards him. In a single breath the woman was practically atop him, she was close enough he could feel her gaze as she kept those violent blue eyes focused and transfixed on his own. He stood, speechless for a moment as she spoke and told him he was going to help her with a task. It wasn't a request. She did not come back to ask him for a favor or see if he could help her. No, she was practically giving him an order. He tried to summon a response, anything would suffice really. He felt his blood freeze however as she traced a delicate finger over his jaw. The light of day seemed to fade into darkness the longer they stayed close, the air became charged with... Something... As the radiating witch kept her gaze steady.
He blinked a few times as she began to speak with her cat thing again. She called it a 'familiar' which, to him, honestly sounded like it was something out of one of his rpgs. They were saying something about him being used for something how he wasn't 'perfect' but that he would do. An uneasy feeling seemed to surface at this line of dialogue...What was he not 'perfect' for? What was this task he was being roped into? These questions left him with uncomfortable feelings but... He pushed them down, if things got too serious he was confident he could handle himself. He was a super hero after all! So, with the renewed confidence he would take her hand right as the thunder clapped.
With her guiding him they ended up reaching her house in no time. He adjusted his glasses as the old structure came into view, it looked like no one had lived there in ages! He shifted his gaze to the girl suddenly sat and began to question him. "...I've seen enough inexplicable things to not rule out magic completely I'll admit.." He said looking to the girl with a solemn expression. "...What. What are you being hunted by? Who are you fighting?" He questioned, his tone sharpening as he looked over the woman and her faithful companion. As she seemed to indicate that she was in some sort of danger: the awkward and timid young man she met back by the pond was replaced with the strong and confident man that was standing before her. If she was in trouble he wasn't going to stand by and let her be in danger, the hero in him wouldn't allow it.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxPPhvE7VbsTess walked up to Nicolas and gently took his hand, "Witch Hunters.... Demon hunters too, you are the only person that knows I really live out here." Her lovely face vividly expressed her worry, "I want to show people we aren't as awful as they think we are." She released his hand as she walked up to a awfully large mossy boulder and pressed her body against it, "Wake up sweetie," The boulder was actually her gargoyle, parts of its rough grey skin was covered in moss, it appeared to have the head of a dog with long ears and large tusks jutting from its mouth, the body of a hyena, a large reptilian tail, and dexterous dragon like feet. Tess held out her arms to the beast as he lowered his massive snout into them, She hugged his face until he noticed Nicholas. His deep grow made Tess's body vibrate, "Shhhh it's alright darling," She grabbed his tusk and lead him closer to Nicholas, "We aren't all monsters out here, This is a gargoyle, we call him Garth." Garth's horse-like nostrils flared as he sniffed Nicholas, He then huffed from his nose into Nicholas's face as he turned and walked away to lay back down in his spot. Tess pursed her lips, "Maybe starting with Garth wasn't the best idea...." King walked up on his hind legs and casually leaned against a stump, "You could start with me?" Tess eyes narrowed upon King, "But you already made it clear you don't like him..... Plus you ARE a monster." she laughed as King's face showed a moment of surprised to her response, "Oh I know we can start real small!" She dropped on all fours by the log she was sitting on earlier, "Come look!" She tried to drag Nicholas down with her, once eye level to the forest floor and the log she pointed to a silver green moss ball about the size of a golf ball, she very quickly tapped it with her index finger, it suddenly chripped and bounced until it stood on teeny bird-like legs and ran off. King jumped on the log and tapped several of the little balls causing them the chirp and spazz out before running off, "These are chirmes, a type of fairy creature." She smiled and again her face was near his, King put a paw down between them as he walked off the log, "Are you even going to tell him the task?" Tess's face went totally blank, "Oh... oh yea..." The pale skin of her face became flushed, she raised her hands to her mouth as she laughed, "Ha! haha! Sorry I completely jumped the gun," She stood and dramatically grabbed both of his hands as she raised her face up so close to his, "I need help to save the creatures of the bamboo forest!" She then looked at King with proud bright eyes, "Did I do it right?" King gave her a thumbs up, "Hell yea just like they do it on TV!" Tess didn't interact with many humans.... much less anything that talked, she only had King and what she saw on TV to guide her on social interactions.

Nicolas could only stare in awe as Tess took his hand and brought him into to a world of mysticism and curiosity. With her introduction as the witch of the bamboo forest, the golden haired beauty guided him through a whirlwind of bold new information and acted to help him process all the oddities at once. He practically gaped as she revealed the hidden magic that seemed to permeate the area. From the great boulders that turned out to be fierce stone gargoyles to the tiny pixie sprites hiding among the blades of grass below, the magic of this girls home was around every corner... It was insane to Nicolas, this place she called her home. It was as if this mystical place hidden among the bamboo was a dreamland shrouded away from the rest of the world. He supposed it wasn't all fantastical and perfect though, as she said the people that did know of her secret seemed to despise her. They feared her so much that it seemed to make having to deal with hunters a near constant issue, though he supposed that just came with the territory of being...Well, a witch.
While these creatures seemed to originate from the pages of one of Nicolas' fantasy novels they more than likely had ties linking their origins to the Demon Realm. It was a place that seemed full of these mystical beasts after all (though this was a place that was completely unknown to the young man so he'd never make the connection.) Inspiration took hold and he almost wanted to take the time to sit down and sketch one or more of the magical beasts that was stalking about but as the (obnoxious rude stand offish magic) cat pointed out, the witch had brought him to her 'humble' abode for a specific task...
He glanced up at as the pale girl blushed at her own scatter brain, he couldn't help but give a soft little chuckle at it. His chuckle died into a surprised gasp when it became his turn to blush. His cheeks burned a bit as soon as she took his hands and pull herself closer to him once again. He met her electric blue gaze once more as she looked to him imperatively and stated her mission. She needed his help, to save the mystic creatures of her home... He blinked his eyes widening as he took in the nature of the tall order. Now he sort of realized why she and her cat may have thought he wasn't the right fit for the task. Even he began to doubt himself nearly instantly, he had no real idea to even begin with such a task.
"I'd love to help..." He began, waiting for her to finish her little back and forth with that cat of hers. "But... I don't know where I could even start..." He pulled his hands away, a bit reluctantly as he moved a hand through his wet hair to get the long brown locks out of his eyes. He moved his hand down to scratch at the back of his neck as he let his thoughts wander for a moment. "I mean, what would you have me do?" He asked tilting his head lightly.

Tess Looked up hopefully, "At least help me find the one with the power to save us." King stared at the grass, "Too many people still have the wrong idea about witches, they act like we a dangerous pest and nothing more." He crossed his arms as he looked up at Nicholas, "You can surely understand why we aren't thrilled about outsiders." Suddenly Tess's face lit up, "We'll throw a party like on TV! OooOoOoo Yea!" She sung it as she wiggled her hips in excitement, King jumped up and sat on her'shelf, he put a paw on her nose, "No. You know Garth hates crowds," Tess tapped her lips, "Your right....." She turned to Nicholas, "I'm sorry it seems we need time, bye" She snapped her fingers and Nicholas was back at the lake.
