SOLO THREAD #1: IN NEED OF ZENI...
The blue android known as Sprocket gazed upon the forest below as he stood perched on the branch of an immensely tall tree. He looked upon the residence of an old woman that he had previously escorted through the forest. The old woman didn't realize he wasn't her nephew, though he wasn't about to tell her when there had been no sign of her nephew for several days. The poor old woman seemed entirely alone in the forest, something that kept Sprocket feeling uneasy. He had spent many of the past few days watching out for this woman, occasionally visiting with her. The visits were fun but Sprocket was falling behind on his training. He felt like he was spread rather thin due to his worrying for the safety of the old woman who called herself Auntie Indigo.
When not acting as the old woman's guardian, Sprocket's little home forced him to train out in the forest. Though he put forth vast amounts of effort, he felt that he wasn't getting much out of it. He doubted his own inventiveness which resulted in him giving up on the idea of new, more effective training methods. Sprocket quickly lost himself in thought, wondering what he could do. He had heard of martial artists using weighted clothing or various machines to make training more effective. He wondered if maybe he could find something in town to purchase to allow him to train more effectively. After all, if he was going to train and become stronger he was going to do it as effectively as possible.
The blue android waited until Auntie Indigo's lights went out as the sun began to set. After a few minutes of mulling it over and ensuring the old woman had fallen asleep, Sprocket headed into Satan City to explore the shops. He couldn't believe the vast amounts of items that lined the shelves. There were so many interesting gadgets and clothing that were guaranteed to improve strengthening the user. Sprocket was rather skeptical about these things so he spent a lot of time researching the items, finding out the prices of the various models and brands as well as questioning other customers about them. It wasn't until he nearly decided what he would want to get that he realized he had no Zeni. Discouraged, as well as feeling somewhat hopeless, Sprocket left the shops. Taking a seat on a bench further down the street, Sprocket placed his face in his hands, grunting in frustration.
Sprocket had no money, therefore he would need to find a way to earn some. Unfortunately, he had no job experience, nor did he have any form of identification. He would have to find some odd jobs where him being a professional wouldn't matter. Sprocket had no idea where to begin. How does one go about finding a job in such a large city? He moved his hands away from his face and noticed a newspaper under his boot. He picked it up and noticed there was a rather large sections of "help wanted" ads. After carefully scanning the page, he picked out a select few that seemed somewhat promising. After deciding which he would try first, he folded up the page of ads and stuffed it into his pocket before heading for the first place of employment.
JOB #1: Delivery Boy
The first job that Sprocket had noticed was a position as a delivery boy. The job seemed like it would be somewhat simple as Sprocket had the ability to fly. So long as he could keep what he was delivering safe he would have no problem completing this job. Sprocket headed down to the business that had requested the help and it turned out to be a somewhat small restaurant. Sprocket opened the door and, after stating his purpose for being there, was directed towards the back of the restaurant where steaming boxes of fresh food awaited him. Before he could depart, Sprocket was approached by the supervisor who requested that he wear the company's logo. In order to meet this requirement, Sprocket was handed a baseball cap with the restaurants logo on it which was comprised of 3 red stars. In addition, the supervisor requested that Sprocket take one of their scooters which had a small compartment to store food so that it could be kept warm. Unfortunately, Sprocket had no idea how to operate any type of vehicle. The need for money prevented him from mentioning it.
Sprocket stood in an alley behind the restaurant and clicked the button on top of the capsule. He threw it a few feet away and with a loud "POP!" and a puff of smoke, a small, rectangular, white scooter appeared that shared its logo with Sprocket's hat. Sprocket picked up the boxes of food and placed them in a compartment on the back. The android very carefully got onto the scooter and stared at it for several minutes before finally pressing a button he believed was for activating it. The vehicle began to hum and Sprocket twisted the right handle lightly causing the scooter to ease forward. Sprocket excitedly grinned, slowly beginning to accelerate. Rounding the corner of the alley, he began to increase in speed, nearly taking out a pedestrian. He shouted several 'pardon me's, 'sorry's, and 'watch out's as he quickly scooted around various other vehicles.
Sprocket made deliveries one by one, slowly finding it easier to locate each address on the list he was given. Very few people tipped him, and the people that did only gave him a very small percentage of their bill. At the end of the day, Sprocket returned the scooter to capsule form and returned it to the restaurant along with his hat. The manager of the restaurant was rather impressed with their new, blue recruit. Enough so that he welcomed Sprocket to join as a permanent employee. Sprocket wasn't sure how long he'd be in Satan City so he told the manager that he would make sure to let them know if he'd be looking for employment again.
JOB #2: Waiter
Sprocket woke the next morning, excited to start the day. After having gotten to do something out of the ordinary the day prior, he was now eager to look for more work. Fortunately, Auntie Indigo had company over which meant that Sprocket wouldn't have to worry about acting as her protector today. This would be the perfect opportunity to begin work. Sprocket shot off into the air towards Satan City.
Upon arriving, the android's mood quickly went from excitement to frustration. He couldn't figure out where to go for work today. A lot of the jobs in the newspaper he picked up the previous day ended up being filled. His only remaining choice seemed to be the restaurant he had delivered for. He still had yet to get paid for his previous job, so he had no idea how long he would have to work there to make enough for training equipment. He could work there regularly but with Auntie Indigo being a priority as well as training he didn't know how much time he would have to devote to working.
Deciding that he would only act as a temp for the restaurant, Sprocket entered the restaurant. He was greeted by the same staff he had seen prior, and they informed him that their normal delivery boy had returned which meant Sprocket wasn't needed. As he was about to leave, Sprocket was stopped by a supervisor who expressed a need for a waiter due to an expected increase in customers. Sprocket agreed to help out and was outfitted with a uniform which included black pants, a vest, and a bow tie. The day started off with a few large groups customers, allowing Sprocket to get used to his new job. He was off to a bit of a rocky start as he had gotten a few orders wrong, but his memory quickly improved as he came up with tricks to memorize what went where. Though he wouldn't be making as much money as he did with the delivery, Sprocket was glad that he was only working for a few hours, rather than the entire night.
To his surprise, Auntie Indigo ended up at the restaurant with a group of other old women. He was a bit glad to see her not being all by herself. The old ladies took a seat and Sprocket approached the table with a grin. "Hello ladies! What can I get for you?" Auntie Indigo looked up from her menu with a large grin and said, "Oh my! Nephew! I didn't realize you worked here! Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Sprocket was a bit surprised that she still thought he was her nephew. What was even more interesting was that she recognized his voice and still thought he was her nephew. Sprocket responded saying, "I decided to pick up some extra work here, Auntie. Y'know. To get some more zeni. Just in case." Auntie Indigo just smiled and stated her order as the other older ladies followed. The other old ladies seemed pleased with him and Auntie Indigo's relationship. They didn't even question the fact that her nephew was blue. It did cause some slight concern for Sprocket, though. What would happen if they later met her actual nephew? The android would have to watch his step.
The rest of Sprocket's shift went smoothly and things were much more enjoyable with the lovely Auntie Indigo there. Upon reaching the end of his shift, Sprocket stuck around to help clean off tables. The manager once again requested that Sprocket join as a permanent employee but all Sprocket could say was, "I would love to but there's a chance I won't have time. I'm sorry. I've got a cute old aunt to look after...but I appreciate your offer!" Sprocket tried to give his uniform back but the manager told him to keep it in case he would want to return. With a quick goodbye Sprocket left the restaurant and Satan City, returning to the forest.
