Birds could be heard chirping throughout the forest as the blue android known as Sprocket walked through. It had been a short while since Sprocket had woken up from his deep slumber and taken up his new identity to match his new body. There was a slight breeze moving through the area that pushed his yellow locks of hair about his face. He spat strands out from his mouth, irritated by his new hair. The boy thought to himself, 'They couldn't have cut my hair when they put me in that body, could they? Grr... Whose idea was it anyway to put my brain in the body of a blue alien. But that wasn't enough for them, was it?! They had to make me bionic too! Gah... It could be worse I guess...' He stopped dead in his tracks, now realizing he hadn't spoken since waking up. He had no idea what he sounded like. He was almost afraid to find out but if he were to start on a road of new-found self-acceptance he would have to get over it sooner or later.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He opened his mouth and sheepishly said, "I really...hope I...don't sound... Hm... I don't sound half bad, do I? It's kind of cool..." He laughed a bit to himself now knowing that he had a cool, smooth-sounding voice. He felt a bit more confident in this new body of his but he couldn't help but feel lonely not having had anyone to share anything with except for the animals residing in the forest. So far he had run into very few animals and very few of them paid any attention to him. It was as if he didn't even exist. He walked a bit further with a new-found spring in his step until the trees began to grow scarce. Sprocket had now come across a city. Not just any city. Satan City. He looked upon it in awe and grinned. 'This place would be the perfect place to start a new life!' he thought to himself.
Sprocket, not paying any attention, ended up stepping off of a rather large hill that could almost have been considered a cliff. Sprocket began to drop and began panicking. He waved his armed in a frenzy until realized that he had stopped falling. He, now an android, realized that his body was now mechanized and as such harnessed ki much more readily than when he was a human. He let out a sigh of relief and descended down the hill at a slow pace. Upon reaching pavement, Sprocket began to walk through the city, eyeing up buildings. He noticed that there were quite a few people staring at him. Sprocket began to worry, trying to think of why they would be staring at him. If he were to start a new life, he would also need to build up a good reputation, especially if he planned on making any friends. Sprocket felt another breeze pass through and realized he had no shirt since waking up. He quickly scouted the area, looking for the closest store until he realized he hardly had any money on him (considering the only Zeni he had was random Zeni he found in the ruins of the old Red Ribbon Army base he came from).
Sprocket was at a loss. He didn't know what to do now... He would need to find a job and a place to live if he planned on living in Satan City. He noticed some shirts in one of the stores with a price of 0z with a sign that said FREE I <3 BAO TEES. Though the style of the shirt was not to Sprocket's liking, it was better than no shirt at all. Sprocket grabbed the shirt and tried it on. He thought to himself, 'It could be worse, right? It could always be worse...'
Sprocket exited the shop, now almost more self-conscious than when he put the shirt on in the first place. He took a step and tripped, falling into a busy, traffic-ridden street. He looked up and there was a vehicle headed straight towards him. He realized that he didn't have enough time to fly so all he could do was put out his arm in hopes that his new body would withstand being hit by a car. He heard a whirring noise and a flash of green light appeared around him, extending from his body.
...a blue beam of ki shot out from his mouth! Luckily for operator of the automobile, Sprocket's beam narrowly missed the vehicle and disappeared into the forest behind the city. A small bang could be heard but Sprocket now stood there, shocked. He shakily stepped out of the road and plopped onto a bench under a street light. 'I could have killed that man!' he thought to himself. The man in the vehicle, though somewhat startled, drove away grumbling, "F-filthy tourists..." Sprocket wasn't sure if this new body of his was a blessing or a curse... If he were to start a new life as someone who could help others he would have to learn to control his new abilities. In order to train and hone his skills without harming others, Sprocket would have to go and live somewhere that would have a much less dense population. He decided that he would go back to living in the forest and train there. The only problem is that he wouldn't have a place to live... The safety of others would be more important, at least to Sprocket.
The next few days, Sprocket rummaged through the remains he could find of old buildings and structures that had been abandoned. If he couldn't afford to buy a house, he would craft one on his own. He knew little to nothing about architecture, but he had seen people repair homes before. He did what he could to combine these random structures together, with a few logs and fallen trees, to create what looked like a home modeled after Frankenstein's monster. It didn't bother Sprocket too much as he decided it would only be temporary. He tried to make it somewhat welcoming and comfortable, but his makeshift bed was pretty itchy and the home didn't block out the wind or noise that well. He began to get used to the noise and the bed, though he wouldn't stop trying to improve his little home. He would scavenge what he could from the trash of Satan City's residents in order to improve his little Frankenstein home. If something of theirs was broken, he would fix it. If he couldn't fix it, he would burn it for heat. Things seemed to be working out rather well for the android.
The little house of his began to prove problematic for the android. It wasn't very big and when it rained, many leaks appeared. Sprocket spent just as much time fixing up his little house as he did training. He also had to put time towards hunting down and learning to cook various food sources. He quickly got over not wanting to kill anything as his stomach quickly got to him before his compassion for others did. He tried to only go after animals that were carnivorous or that would be a threat to him in any way. He did this to fuel his body since it seemed to be organic enough to require sustenance as humans did. Sprocket had blueprints of his cybernetic design, though he wasn't sure if it was ever completed entirely. They weren't very helpful but he was beginning to learn a lot about the anatomy of his android body.
Sprocket began to familiarize himself with the area so as to not get lost as he did on a few occasions. The ability to fly was extremely helpful in finding out where he was, though he didn't really want to rely on it in the case that something would happen to prevent him from using the ability. Upon one of his many treks through the woods, he came across an old lady making her way through the woods at a slow rate. She was rather short and was using a little cane to support herself. Sprocket was a bit worried about this old woman as she was entirely defenseless. Sprocket was afraid that if he approached her she would run away in fear, but was also afraid that if he didn't she would be eaten by one of the many carnivorous beasts he had run across or be robbed by bandits. Sprocket immediately went to the worst case scenario.
Sprocket was faster than the woman without a doubt. He could always just follow her to make sure she would be okay... which is exactly what he did. Sprocket followed the woman for so long before he was ready to give up. His patience was running thin as this little old lady was moving extremely slow. He was about to approach her but was quickly interrupted by a large feline creature. It slowly crept out from the shadows of the forest and snarled at the old lady. She squinted in it's direction and asked, "Nephew? Is that you? I thought you were going to come and get me earlier but I couldn't tell what time it was so I started walking. Could you be a dear and carry my bag for me?" The old woman had such terrible sight and hearing that she couldn't even tell that she was about to be eaten by a large carnivore. The quadruped looked as if it was going to pounce so Sprocket quickly jumped in and delivered a kick right to its face. It went hurtling into the forest and the old lady made a little squeak of surprise. "Oh my. Hello, nephew! I totally couldn't tell where you were! Who was that person that just left?"
Sprocket tried to speak but the old lady threw her little bag at him. He quickly caught it and said to her, "Pardon me ma'am but I am not your nephew. I just noticed you were by yourself so I thought I would help." The old woman looked confused and said, "It's me. You know, silly. Your Auntie Indigo! There's no time to dillydally! Back to the home! Do you have that fancy scooter still? Why not use it?!" The old lady began laughing and continued walking. There was no way she would believe Sprocket wasn't her nephew so he just decided to go with it until he got her home safely. "Here, Auntie Indigo. Let me help you up onto my...er...scooter..." The android scooped up the little woman and shot forward through the woods. He followed the trail, hoping to see some type of home to drop this little old lady at. The little old lady seemed to be enjoying herself as they made their way through the forest. Sprocket slowed down as he was becoming less familiar with his surroundings. The old lady said, "Nearly there! Thank you so much nephew!" The android stopped upon reaching a home with a little garden along the side and a bright red roof. He set down the little lady and she stopped in her doorway. "Come on in, nephew! You left some clothing here last time. Have some tea and change out of that shirt. It's far too small for you!" Sprocket was now confused with the level of this woman's eyesight. She somehow could tell that his shirt was a bit snug but couldn't tell that a blue android-alien wasn't her nephew.
Sprocket entered the warm home and was immediately handed tea. He set the little woman's bag on the table in her home and took a sip of tea. He immediately felt heat run through his body and made him feel instantly at home. He noticed a white gi in the old woman's hands. He grabbed it and switched his "I Love Bao" t-shirt with it. It felt much more comfortable. He didn't feel entirely okay with taking another person's clothing, though he could justify it after delivering this old woman to her home. It felt good to finally help someone with his new body. He now had a citizen of the forest to protect and would keep an eye on Auntie Indigo to make sure she'd be okay without her nephew around.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He opened his mouth and sheepishly said, "I really...hope I...don't sound... Hm... I don't sound half bad, do I? It's kind of cool..." Sprocket looked around, astonished. The green orb seemed to be a result of ki manipulation as the flight had been earlier. He thought to himself, 'With this new body, maybe I could learn to fight and control my ki. Then I could be a fighter! I could protect the innocent and become a--.' Sprocket's inner monologue was cut short by an angry automobile operator as he shouted, "GET OUT OF THE ROAD, YOU FREAK!" Sprocket's energy barrier had extended but the car had been able to stop just far enough away so that the barrier wouldn't have touched it. Sprocket's head lurched up and the barrier disappeared. He stood up quickly and nervously said, "I-I'm so sorry! I'll get out of your way right away. I--" Sprocket felt a strange sensation in the pit of his stomach and a whirring noise could be heard in his chest. Before he could finish his sentence or figure out what was going on...
