((Thread #6 in story, PL: 8, 927. Heavy Weights on))
My travels over the course of these last few weeks; I didn’t think I’d find myself any where near any place with snow.
The winds cut into her face, ice and snow biting into her skin to chill her right to her bones. Her jacket – which was bought recently before her trek – conserved most of her body heat relatively well. Her pants were made a very puffy material, like parachute pants but they had something inside that regulated the temperature from the inside out. However, her head…
With a frustrated growl, she continued walking through the blizzard. Her lower face was covered by a thick veil, leaving her eyes and upper cheeks exposed, but her mouth, nose and neck covered and protected. Over her head was a thick hood, tightened around to protect her ears from frostbite like the rest of her body. The reason she was out in such terrible weather – which was actually normal for the region – was to gather food for the inn she was staying at. Beyond her was the village known as ‘Jingle’, dim lights showing her the way she needed to go and acting as a beacon. Only a few more paces, damn it-! She goaded herself on, closing one eye when a particularly strong gust nearly blinded her.
It was a good five minutes before she was inside the inn known as ‘The Frosty One’, ironic as it seemed. Shaking off the excess quickly melting snow, she gave a ragged sigh and tossed her frozen rabbit carcasses onto the floor. The customers inside, as well as a couple of the workers, eyed her in confusion and fear before Zerori declared loudly, “Gotcha some fresh meat for the stews! Make sure to clean ‘em before hand!” At that, the customers seemed to all exclaim at the words. Some whom were hunter proclaiming positively at the fresh meat and work, other making sounds of disgust at the treatment of their ‘food’.
Ignoring the negative reaction, Zerori walked toward the back of the inn and placed a hand on the door frame to look inside the kitchen. The Innkeeper, known as Roric, looked up at her before glaring. The excitement certainly did reach him and he apparently wasn’t satisfied with her lack of handling of the situation.
“Do you not have any sense of decorum?!” He yelled, his broad chest making him bellow louder than he intended. In response, Zerori grinned and gave a noncommittal shrug.
“You wanted food and I wanted a place to stay for a while. That’s our arrangement, right? You never said how I get you the food or where to even bring it in.” Roric gave her a withering look of anger before turning back to the food he was cooking. He often made it a point to cook food for the establishment himself since the help he got were mostly strangers with no interest to cook their own food.
“I’ll be taking the treatment of product out of your payment, then,” He hissed and Zerori gave him a pout.
“That’s unfair~” She whined teasingly, before bursting into laughter at his shocked expression. With a shake of his head, he waved her away and Zerori walked back into the lobby, choosing a table to sit at. She received a lot of looks, but it didn’t bother her. The rabbits had already gotten taken from the floor by the waiter and brought into a separate door to the kitchen. Because of the weather, no one could tell visually what time it was, but through technology, she knew it was around 10 in evening.
Against her will, she yawned, “Ugh, almost time to turn in!” She groaned. Unbeknownst to her, some of the guests saw her fangs and heir reactions were not hard to see after she closed her mouth. Some were intrigued, some frightened, and others seemed to either not care of be offended by her canines. With a determined look, she dared anyone to approach her about the issue.
