History: The Valkyrie, once a proud race of warriors, are now all but extinct. Wiped out by the Saiyans, there were few to survive. Their home planet destroyed, their people murdered shamelessly, even their God King, lifted off his feet, head removed from neck by hands of the monkeys.
There was no rhyme or reason to the massacre; the Saiyans did not chase down the survivors, who left the planet. And so, Valkyrie Tenshi came to live on a planet, far from home. A planet called Nor.
It was here that Tenshi grew up, having left her planet at only nine months. Away from cities, towns, anything. Her father only went in for things they needed. Food, money, clothes. They lived a life well under the level of poverty. Tenshi found herself eating rats quite often, and eating nothing even more. The only thing her parents could do, to save her, preserve her existence, was hand her in to the circus. A crazy bunch, gypsies mostly, who conned people out of coin, stole children, ate rats themselves. It was a meager existence, but better than what the Valkyrie family had. Tenshi left at the age of five.
She was taught how to crowd people, alongside other children of the circus, distract them long enough for their purses to be emptied, even emptying them herself. How to bump into someone "accidentally," and when they next reached for their pockets, finding them empty. How to move quickly, utilise her wings for flight movement. Prepare her for the show.
But she wouldn't be in the show until she was ten. Wings now fully developed, she looked like an adult with her height. Only ten, and already five eleven, she towered above her friends now. She was put into the freak show, showing off her wings to ogglers, performing acrobatic tricks for the people, as they tossed flowers, trash, vegetables, and even coins at her. It was demeaning, and all she could do to keep up the act. When she'd finally had enough, she told the ring leader, a man taller than even she was, that she was flying away, and there was nothing he could do about it, a ten year old's remark. The man simply laughed, and told her fly away if she must, but she would not be allowed back. It is a hard life out there, on your own, nowhere to go, no one to turn to. Here, she had everything she could need, and even got paid. He offered her a job on the trapeze.
At first she was uneasy about it, skeptical, told she wasn't allowed to use her wings, not even to catch herself falling. So, she landed on her face several times, injured on multiple occasions. But finally she got the hang of it, working with her partner, Svehn. Together, they ruled the flying trapeze, working for years together. Finally, Tenshi was allowed to use her wings, opening them gracefully in full flight, doing flips and tricks around the rings, flying out over the audience. It was truly a sight to see. Everything was fine.
Until after one fateful show. Svehn, exceptionally drunk, was walking with the now seventeen year-old Tenshi in the tents whilst everything was being packed up, getting ready to move. They walked to his wagon room, stepping in like they always did. But this time, instead of sitting down, recounting the amazing ordeal in the ring, Tenshi listening to Svehn's outrageous accent, Svehn closed and locked the door. He turned around and immediately punched Tenshi in the face. He caught her armor, for the most part, but it hurt both of them. Tenshi was shocked, hurt inside.
"I'm going to go home, Svehn, you are drunk."
He hit her again, knocking her down. Before she had a chance to get back up, he was on her, lust-crazed look in his eyes. It became a struggle, Svehn trying to have his way with Tenshi, who was trying to get away. Before she knew it, she suddenly felt a surge of strength, her body changing, feeling more secure. Mind in a rush, still panicking, screaming, shouting for help, her hand curled around what felt like a pole, but was warm to the touch. She pushed herself back, out from under him, instinctively bringing her hand around in a twirl, and the spear went through Svehn's heart.
She stood there, panting, body returning to its natural state, as Svehn's body fell forward on the spear. Tenshi's mind blanked, and the ki disappeared, both of them falling to the floor, darkness closing on her vision.
When she awoke, the ringmaster was above her, smacking her with the back of his rock-hard, worn hand. The girl he'd been training was with him, a bucket in her hand. When the ringmaster saw that Tenshi was awake, he held out his hand to the girl, who had pulled back the bucket, ready to splash.
"What happened here?" His thick accent was all too familiar to Tenshi, as she blinked back the blurriness.
"I...I don't know. He was...he was trying to have his way, with me. He was drunk, I didn't know what to do, I don't know what I did.."
The man looked at the body of Svehn, back to Tenshi, back to Svehn, and shrugged.
"It looks like he must have fallen onto his bed post." The ring master motioned towards the bed that she was sitting on. Tenshi gave him a disbelieving look. "Hard," he added, and he stood up, putting his hand in the puncture, wiping the blood on the bed and post. Brushing it off on his pants, he held out his hand to Tenshi.
"We don't speak of this, do you hear me girl?" Tenshi nodded, and he continued. "You will go back to the freak show, until we find another trapeze artist. I don't want to hear another word from you, and I don't want this to happen again, or I will send your ass out on the side of the street." Tenshi opened her mouth to protest, but before she could say anything "NO arguing. I know this was probably an accident, but I damn well can't have you killing my carnies."
By now, a group of onlookers had gathered at the entrance, and the ringmaster's booming voice rang out. "Move along here, there is nothing to see. Tenshi just happened across Svehn, after a terrible accident. We will mourn him on the morning, there is nothing to see."
It wasn't long after that when the ringmaster died. People gave odd looks to Tenshi, as if blaming her, but she had done nothing wrong. The odd girl whom he had been training took over, but for the most part Tenshi had nothing to do with her. And she was right to do so, for very many "strange things" happened around Adrien, as Tenshi heard her name was through over heard gossip. Many, many strange things. And the longer she stayed, the stranger they got over the next four years. But every time Tenshi thought about leaving, the ringmaster's voice echoed inside of her: "It is a hard life out there, on your own, nowhere to go, no one to turn to. Here, you have everything you could need, and even get paid." It was better than nothing, and she knew that if she left, that's what she would have. So, Tenshi stayed, even when things got too high strung, and they disappeared from Nor, next destination Earth. Tenshi was with them, and would follow them until she didn't need to. But who knew how long that would be.
