Name: Kashū
Alias: The Red Lion
Species: Saiyan
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Appearance
Kashū's title betrays his appearance, for he is a lion of a man with a magnificent mane and a bulky frame. From his eyebrows to his beard, all of his hair carries a subtle red tint, a trait that lends itself to the name he has earned. His countenance is most often twisted into some manner of scowl or glare, and he has only been known to smirk, smile, or laugh when he finds something to be amusing in a morbid sense. He eschews armor (and shirts) in favor of more traditional Saiyan garb, a long-outdated habit that his family has kept alive.
History: From the day he was born, he was a victim of a persistent hunger, an insatiable sense of longing he inherited from his father. The man had been a reacher for as long as anyway could remember, always stretching his hands out after the next big thing, always seeking to find new limits and break through. But nothing he earned, nothing he took, nothing he achieved could ever make him feel that it was enough, and that made it impossible for him to see the value in his newborn son. Kashū was born with an impressive Power Level, but an impressive Power Level was not enough to please his ever-reaching father. So Kashū learned to reach. He learned to strive. He learned to hunger.
His hunger made him strong. Complacency was never an issue with him; strong as he was, he could always be stronger, and no level of strength was strong enough. Training became a daily part of his life, his mind's eye always trained on that unattainable image as he threw his fists and blocked blows with his teeth. Bloody knuckles and broken bones were a constant fixture, but he worked through the pain, for his father's sake and for his own. When they exchanged fists, they communicated an understanding that they were working together toward a destiny for their bloodline, a legacy worth more than Elite status alone. His father, perhaps, might never achieve it, and if he could not, then Kashū certainly must not fail.
His hunger made him weak. As his body rapidly grew to match the strength of his resolve, the strength of his mind and soul waned. Increasingly, he found himself challenged to consider what it might mean to live a life not devoted to the martial arts. Peace was foreign. Love was foreign. Friends were only people you could count on to carry their own weight in a conflict--nothing more, and nothing less. Something in him recognized the losses, and that something slowed his progress. Was it truly right to lose one's self so thoroughly in battle lust and ambition? Was there nothing more to life than a constant battle to be the strongest? These thoughts invaded Kashū mind when he was left alone in the dark, given too much time to think or ponder. But his conflict caused hesitation when the time came to train, and hesitation always led to a fresh wound. So, he learned his lessons in blood: strength was all that truly mattered in the universe. Anything else came second; only the strong deserved the freedom to dream of peace.
The conflict never found more brutal representation than that which it found in the trials between Kashū and his cousin: older by two years, child of the Saiyan King, and a runt if a Saiyan if ever there was one. From time to time, the two were made to fight, each father seeking to test the strength of his son. Kashū relished the combat itself, cherished the sensation of his palms cracking bones and the sight of his beaten cousin at his feet, but at the end of the day, neither father left pleased. The Saiyan King was forced to walk away in shame, knowing that his seed had wrought such weakness. Kashū's father walked away with pride in his knowledge that his blood was stronger than the blood of Koregutsu, but never content; there was always a mistake that Kashū had made, always some manner in which he might have more effectively humiliated his cousin. Unless saved until later in the day, the lessons and corrections fell on deaf ears; once their battles were done, Kashū could never take his eyes off of his father's sister, who moved so tenderly to comfort her fallen son.
If Kashū had a mother, she had left him long ago, so he grew up hard without her care. He reached adolescence and abandoned training and simulation for real experience, joining the Saiyan legions in spreading the glory of the empire to those worlds which yet lay in darkness. He moved in power, crashing onto each battlefield with a brand of rage and ferocity not so often seen in the Saiyans of the modern day. He allowed himself to get lost in combat, for what else was there to do for one who treasured strength above all else? His style was visceral and uninhibited, and as the years ticked by, he developed a reputation among his people: soaked in the flames of constant conflict, bathed in the blood of the Saiyans', others learned to regard him as the Red Lion of the Empire. He was young, but he was as true a Saiyan as ever there was. Those who witnessed him in action never failed to respect his power.
Alas, he remained hungry, and their respect was not enough. While word of his deeds spread throughout the Empire, word of another's deeds made its way to him. A weakling had survived, it seemed, and the weakling was growing powerful. His father was ill. The royal family's future was uncertain. At first, it seemed that opportunity might be knocking, for few in number were they who might move for the throne so successfully as Kashū's father, or even Kashū himself. But the runt returned, and he came back strong, bearing force and fire before those who doubted his might. The King past, and Zasho II ascended to the throne. It was a miracle. It was a relief. It was...infuriating.
How long had it been since they had battled last? What trials had Zasho endured to rise so far? Just how far had he risen? The thought that the whelp was now perhaps stronger, more powerful, more worthy than him made Kashū's blood boil, for if there was any truth to it at all, it undoubtedly meant that he had not been working nearly hard enough. It meant that years spent fighting for his people had been years wasted; he had grown weaker, not stronger, and he was so much farther from the goal than he'd hoped. All these things he would know to be true if his cousin had outstripped him, and if they were true, he would be destroyed.
Enraged and frantic, Kashū abandoned his post immediately when word of the forthcoming coronation ceremony reached him. He did not, however, travel to stand silent in the wings as his cousin received the crown. He instead made the journey to the planet Earth, the only world famous for breeding strength form the loins of weakness. He knew that his cousin, now the King, would travel there quite soon; the Centurial Conference was on the horizon, and the royalty of the Solar Empire must surely be in attendance. But the concurrent tournament was Kashū's true concern, for there, the Red Lion might be given the chance to face the Saiyan King once more, to prove to himself and to the Empire that he, only he, has the true will to power.
For, if he cannot prove it, his hunger will only grow deeper.
Home Planet: Vegeta
Starting Planet: Earth
Techniques:
Support: [Red Lion's Roar]--He opens his mouth and unleashes a shout, and his cry is as that of a beast. This technique creates a palpable weight in the air, and its piercing tone stalls the object of his ire. Whether halted by dread, revulsion, or sheer curiosity at the bestial nature of his shout, the target is stunned for a short time--just long enough to allow an opening.
Support: [Kiai]--With focused ki and audible anger, he unleashes a force of invisible might. This technique projects an invisible wave of ki over a short range and destabilizes any ki attacks that it strikes, negating them. It has the secondary effect of blasting away anything standing within three meters of its user. Either effect only strikes entities that are in front of the user. Works on ki techniques up to Tier 1. [Tier 1]
- -->[Red Lion's Stand]--Voicing his rage, he defies the power of any who stand against him. This Kiai enhancement is able to destabilize and negate techniques up to Tier 2. Used against a Tier 1 technique, it additionally creates a ki backlash that can briefly stun the opponent, but does no damage otherwise. Melee-range knockback effect is extended to six meters. [Tier 2]
