“Secrets inside of Big Blu? There’s nothing us Operators really know about, Tulip.” The young, raven-haired girl sipped her coffee, before adjusting her round glasses slightly. The hybrid sat across from her in the shop, head resting on the small table between them. There was a loud sigh from the woman, before she sat back up. Rachel glanced towards the window outside, before adding in a soft tone. “There is one thing, though. Whenever KAOS or the police encounter an exceptionally strong foe, the videos and tapes are recorded and extensively studied by those in the Research and Development sector. ‘To better prepare our forces for combat against foes’ or so they claim. After we hit send on the reports, we never hear another word about the information or what’s done with it.”
“Information about enemies...huh.” Tulip sat up in her chair, before leaning back. She recalled that the gravity chamber had ‘other’ capabilities outside of just being a place with enhanced gravity. Slowly picking up her drink, the woman took a long sip. Then, grinning across the table at Rachel, the woman spoke. “So, did you want to go back to your apartment after this? It is your date, after all.”
Rachel’s face dropped, as a slight blush formed. The girl stood up, holding onto her coffee. She left Tulip at the table and paid the tab, before nodding. The woman followed her younger companion happily, unsure about what the rest of the day held in store.
Stepping into the gravity chamber of Big Blu, Tulip walked across the huge floor to the pillar in the middle. Switching through various menus on the computer, the woman paused as she found an ‘Opponent’ menu further down. Opening the submenu, the woman began scrolling through the hundreds of faces on the list. Her hand froze, trembling, as she found two names she could never forget. There was a ‘DECEASED’ label next to both names, but upon a second click, she found two images she recognized.
“Rachel...you were right. But...why did they leave the two alive if the Blue Banner Army knew about their strength?!” Her eyes widened, as the woman recalled the transmission only weeks prior. The Premiere wouldn’t overlook evil simply to bolster the Earth’s most powerful individuals...right? Gritting her teeth, the woman shook her head and got rid of the terrifying thoughts. Selecting both demons, the woman glanced at their profiles. According to the text, both were minor demons, considered only a minor nuisance with little to no effect on the current state of the Earth and its affairs. Both were noted as having perished under unknown circumstances. The woman’s eyes furrowed; did the BBA not catch wind of her actions? Or had the town willingly guarded her identity in order to keep the government from bothering her? The woman sighed, before closing the menus. But, in her haste to cast aside the stray thoughts, Tulip forgot to unmark both demons within the Opponents menu.
Clicking the Gravity setting up to thirty times normal gravity, the woman clicked the button to start the chamber. Red lights began blaring from the ceiling, as a woman’s voice came over the speaker.
“Preparing to activate two ‘Demon’ Class opponents; any personnel not currently busy with taskings are encouraged to spectate.” Windows began opening around the chamber, allowing people outside to look within. Already people were gathering, mostly soldiers in uniform. Tulip glanced back towards the pillar, only to find it was surrounded by a metal layer. The floor clicked open audibly, as smoke drifted out of what appeared to be a cryo-chamber. Two figures slowly slid out of the darkness, held aloft by metal restraints. The floor slammed shut, as electricity began surging into the nondescript figures. Flesh began materializing around each figure, taking on appearances she recognized and feared. One stood over 4 feet taller than the woman, while the other was even taller. The tallest was covered in black energy, which threatened to overwhelm the woman in her suppressed form. The shorter was far more familiar and just as intimidating as his brother, with huge, red muscles and an inhuman face. The voice spoke again, as the the metal restraints retracted back into the floor.
“We hope you enjoy your training session; this will serve to improve your own skills and R&D’s technology. Engaging Gravity now.” Tulip’s eyes widened in shock as both demons shot forward and the entire world slammed down on her shoulders. She collapsed to her knees, as her gaze flitted to either side. Both demons had already covered the distance in mere seconds, already preparing to crush the woman. The peanut gallery looked like it was already placing bets.
Good thing I didn’t bother messing with the settings when Ryder was around; this has the potential to kill and or maim the poor woman. Dropping onto her stomach as two kicks swept the air the woman had just occupied, the woman slammed both of her palms onto the smooth steel and pushed herself backwards. She shot out from under both demons on her chest, as both landed after their roundhouse kicks missed. Sliding up onto her knees and ending with her back against the wall, the woman slowly smirked as both demons sprinted towards her.
Mindless dolls given strength; it’s not like they have a single bit of those fatal strategies from real life. Her ki flared to life, sliver energy crackling outwards. Both demons landed in front of the woman, one thrusting its fist down while the other spun into a heel-drop. She caught both attacks on her palms, almost collapsing as the weight of their attacks forced her down. Gritting her teeth, the woman thrust both attacks back. The black demon pulled his fist back, before launching another flurry of attacks. Asura spun into the air, before raising his hands aloft. Tulip rose to her feet, using the wall to launch herself forward and avoid a majority of Asmodeus’ strikes. Sliding to a stop, her gaze shot upward in shock. The red demon’s ki had grown to a fearful level, red lightning crackling around his body.
“W-what, I thought these were just dummies!?” Tulip’s words came out in a shocked tone, as the staff viewing through the windows began cheering loudly enough for her to hear the murmur. Apparently Research & Development really earns that paycheck; this might hurt. The demon thrust his hands forward, as red beams shot towards the woman. She dropped onto her back, narrowly dodging two beams of red energy. Thrusting her legs backwards, the woman flipped backwards onto one palm before launching herself into the air. She dodged the remaining four beams using that maneuver, landing lightly and trying to regain her balance. Her gaze was fixated on Asura, which is why she missed the palm that slammed into the side of her head.
Hefting the woman’s entire body into the air, Asmodeus smashed the woman downwards into the metal floor, actually denting the powerful plating. Tulip’s body fell limp as pain surged through her entire body. The red demon started charging his second volley, as teh black demon raised his foot up.
....now I’m pissed. Tulip’s gaze shifted colors, as she kicked off the ground, twisting her entire body midair and slamming both of her fists into the demon’s stomach. He didn’t shift, until the woman twisted both of her arms inwards. Maintaining her contact, the young woman muttered.
“Silver Blades, extend.” Two blades exploded into existence, shooting through the demon’s core. The black demon staggered back as the woman crashed into the ground after her last-ditch attack. Tulip rolled onto her feet, as the demon thrust one hand down and attempted to yank the blades from his stomach. Glancing towards the red demon, the woman thrust her hand out and slammed it into a fist. “Silver Blades, eviscerate.”
The two swords vanished, before thousands of blades shot outwards. The black demon vanished in between the blades, as black ichor splashed onto the ground. Her gaze stayed on the red demon, as the blades dispersed into nothing, leaving only flayed remains of the original figure behind.
“Yeah...I’m so angry I might be able to activate that.” Tulip closed her eyes, before scowling and shouting with a roar. Her ki started increasing to even higher levels, as the demon continued charging its powerful attack. Her hair began shifting between shades, as her energy peaked out at the highest it could reach. With a loud cry, her hair turned gold and her eyes shifted to a light blue. The demon thrust his finger towards the woman, firing the powerful laser. It slammed into her forehead, sending up an explosion of red ki and knocking her head back. The energy cleared, as the woman slowly lowered her head. There was a slight burn and cut where the energy had hit, but the damage was minimal. The woman didn’t step forward, as she covered the distance between herself and the demon in less than a second. Setting a single palm against his chest, the woman shifted from the palm to a punch in a second, pouring all of her ki into the strike. The demon shot backwards as its entire chest caved from the punch. It slammed into the wall as its features shifted back into the faceless figure. Black ichor exploded outwards on the far wall, as the punch flattened the doll against the steel plating. Sighing, the woman landed and let her hair shift back. The red lights retracted, as the voice came back on again.
“Simulation ended! Test was a success! Uploading information and resetting gravity.” The weight on Tulip’s body lifted, as the woman landed on the ground and her hair shifted back to normal. Walking towards the exit, the woman ignored the mess she’d made. Her thoughts were in a whirl, though.
What...were those things? They had attacks just like the demons, though they couldn’t shift forms like them. Puppets? Mimics? Or worse? As the doors slid open, men in chemical suits ushered in, slipping past the woman. They began cleaning the remains of the figures quickly, only increasing the woman’s questions. Shaking her head, the woman strolled out of the gravity chamber.
“...whatever this is, it’s definitely above my pay-grade.”
