Name: Artilrian Barae (Based on the term “Artillery Barrage”)
Alias: None as of yet
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 28 years
Appearance:
Physical appearance
Artilrian is a tall fellow, standing at a respectable 187 cm (6.14 feet) and weighs in at 88 kg. (194Ib). He has a fair bit of muscle and tone though it isn’t trained to absurdity. He favors the athletic build over the body builder one. His hair is dark brown and cut short so it doesn’t interfere with whatever headgear he has to use, this is also why he has no facial hair. His eyes are emerald green and he generally seems to be friendly person.
Casual wear
Whenever Artil is on leave his casual wear consists of a pair of jeans, a black long-sleeved t-shirt, black sneakers and socks. Not much to say about it. It provides no protection and is really more for comfort than anything else.
Basic uniform
When on normal duty his uniform consists a navy blue jacket with matching cargo pants, a dark gray vest and helmet, a backpack, black boots and gloves. The pants comes with a set of knee-protectors along with two large pockets for whatever equipment could be required. The dark gray vest is equipped with two ammo pouches, a radio-holder and a holster. The ammo pouches can hold 2 mags each and the holster is for his combat-knife. The backpack, apart from letting him carry more things, also contains a booster for the radio in the shape of an antenna, which also acts as a beacon, however, it is very vulnerable to damage. The helmet comes with a sun visor and strap to keep it in place. His gloves and boots are mainly give him a firm grip on his weapon and better footing respectively. From his belt hangs his side-arm holster and his spade.
The uniform on a whole provides some sort of armor, as the vest is able to absorb a weak ki-blast, but it wouldn’t let him endure anything more.
Winter uniform
The cold weather uniform is pretty much a better insulated variant of his normal uniform. It consists of an insulated jumpsuit with thick gloves and boots, a balaclava in addition to an armored helmet. This time however, rather than wearing a backpack, he wears a harness with pouches for survival gear, ammo, radio and rations. His boots have small spikes to let him traverse ice easier and his armored helmet has a pair with tinted ski goggles, to prevent him from being blinded by the snow, though it won’t stop things like the solar flare move or a common flashbang from blinding him. The suit is made from the same material as his basic uniform and as such will only help him survive smaller attacks, in fact, like the basic armor, the protection is next to nothing.
EVO armor
Now, when deployments to hazardous, unknown, or extremely dangerous environments are concerned, assuming Barae would be assigned to such missions, this armored suit is what he equips. Consisting of a black insulating suit underneath and gray ceramic/light metal alloy plates decorated with blue paint, it provides as most protection from elements as possible. It can also help with dissipating heat from Ki-blasts, but it isn’t invulnerable and it is encouraged to not rely on it to save your life as it tends to knock out the user if a powerful attack is absorbed, assuming it doesn’t kill you outright. The major drawback is that the suit is heavy and will hamper the wearer’s agility and though it is nowhere near weighted clothing standards its weight can be felt after a bit. But it comes with a breathing apparatus, so you won’t choke on poison gas at least.
History:
Childhood
Artilrian was born and raised in the central capitol. His early childhood wasn’t very eventful. He was an average boy that attended average school and lived an average life. What made him stand out however, was that, despite being a very active kid, he never took a liking to martial arts. Instead gravitated towards the armed forces. He loved reading about weapons like firearms and similar hardware to the point that one could call it a slight obsession on his behalf. It did generating some teasing from his classmates but nothing too much. It was when he reached the age of 10 that he started to get a lot more physical as he started to focus a lot on his physical condition and capabilities. This didn’t affect his grades, but it was obvious that he wasn’t an academic genius by any stretch.
Despite the fact that he was training up he still turned a blind eye to marital arts and even brushed off ki management as either overrated or out of his reach.
Once he reached his later teens he had gotten to a very respectable physical state and it was at this point he started to pick up marksman training. He had concluded that he wanted to join the army when he was 18 and wanted to be as ready as possible. Several of his friends tried to talk him out of it, claiming that if he should join a fighting force he should join up with a martial art school and learn to fight like that. Their reason being that Mr. Satan, the hero of earth had defeated foes with such skills while the army had been demolished. However, no matter their persistence, Artilrian was set on the army.
Joining the army and training
A few days after he turned 18 years Artil finally signed his papers and entered the army as a volunteer. Like most he was bright eyed and ignorant, but it didn’t take long for the drill-sergeant to get him and any other recruits with a similar disposition into line, not that Artil ever fell out of line. He kept following his orders and push to be his best. It was exhausting and sometimes unbearable, like the exercises that required them to be up for as long as possible and man their positions without falling asleep or passing out. In the event they did fall asleep the best they could get was 1 to 2 hours of sleep depending on when someone caught them in nodding off. Whatever dreams of being here he had had when he joined had been dispelled, but he had already committed too much to quit, he would stay here until the end. Once he was through basic training he didn’t do much. The earth was in a time of peace, so most of his free time was spent on drilling, training and doing silly things with his buddies, record it and upload it to the internet for a good laugh.
The Tourney Disaster
But all good must come to an end and six years after he signed up, during the 9th Centurial Conference and it’s scheduled fighting tournament of 2801, things went off track following several questionable matches. Some of the delegations even threatened to withdraw all together. Add to the mess that the tournament suddenly turned much more violent and panic soon spread among the civilians.
This was when Artil was deployed as well as other parts of the army. They weren’t there to fight, but to ensure the security of the population. However, it would seem that this was only the intermission as the full moon rose and the Saiyans transformed into mighty Oozarus and the situation went from being a large problem, to a straight up disaster unlike anything Artil had every experienced as he and his fellow soldiers quickly found their weapons to be inadequate to deal with the great apes. Around this time Artil finally understood what his friends had been trying to tell him as the carnage continued. While some of them tried to fight, it was no use. In the end, they had no other choice but to withdraw.
Defection and more issues
The disaster left a very bad taste in Artil’s mouth as he saw how ineffective the army had been in containing the threat. Everything he had read, everything he had thought had been destroyed in one deployment. The whole thing had also made him join in on the anti-alien sentiments, especially when the Saiyans were concerned. Still, he wasn’t about to quit. No doubt the army would try to improve following this. As it turned out, it would do so but not in the way he had expected. The android Vi-Poi formed a new organization, called the Blue Banner Army and, during 2802, launched an attack on the West Capitol. That battle, which would later be known as Battle of the West, was the final straw for Artil and he chose to defect along with several other soldiers who saw the futility in fighting against this new armed force. Even then Artil wasn’t about to give up on his dream and went to sign up with the Blue Banner Army once their position was secured. His allegiance was with earth and if he could fight to protect it then the banner he was under mattered little to him.
But even the prosperous period that followed the Battle of the West was abruptly brought to an end as Vi-Poi was infected by a virus and went crazy. He went as far as to blow up Namek for whatever reason. It wasn’t the reason that mattered anyway, it was the principle and indeed several fighters rose up to take him down upon his return, even those from his own ranks. Sadly, despite the numbers that rose up against him, they were unable to stop him and it was first during a fighting tournament of his own making that he was finally brought down. With his defeat Artil hoped things might calm down and return to normal just for a little bit. Oh, how foolish he was.
The Invasion
A short while after the whole corrupted Vi-Poi incident, Earth received a broadcast from the current queen of the Saiyans. She came at them with an ultimatum, surrender to them or be destroyed. It should come as no surprise that earth refused the proposal and now another invasion was on the horizon. Being as he was still just a part of the World Police, Artil was in no real position to do much, however, he among many others were called upon to defend their homes as the Saiyans commenced their invasion one week later. While the predictions were grim, Artil wasn’t going to back down, after the Oozaru rampages the year before he was determined to make the Solar Empire pay. However, he was deployed to the North Capitol and was thus confronted by several Oozarus, despite it being broad daylight. This time he was slightly more prepared however, as the BBA had means of countering the great apes, but it was little more than a consolation prize as they were still heavily outnumbered. This was one first battle where Artil was truly tested and tried by combat. In earlier engagements he had mainly been assigned to keeping civilians safe but now he was to join the others on the battlefield.
Needless to say, he got stomped. Even against the Auxiliary core he found himself outclassed. Still, seeing how much was at stake, he tried to hold his position along with the rest of the unit he was assigned to. However, they were quickly driven from their position and forced to seek refuge inside a ruined building as the enemy closed in.
Most of them were wrecks at this point, but they all agreed that they wouldn’t surrender and as such they launched a counterattack when the Auxiliary Core was about to enter the building with Artil spearheading the attack. Despite some initial success due to them catching the enemy off guard it was not to last and a nearby Oozaru sealed the deal by using a Ki-beam to demolish the remaining building, killing all those in close proximity and sending Artil flying from the shockwave. The impact from the landing knocked him out cold.
Once he awoke he found the battle was still going, now against a large golden Oozaru, as if the normal variant wasn’t bad enough. He decided that this was too much and quickly withdrew to a safe area before signalling for someone to help him back to base. While Earth managed to pull home a victory, he promised himself that he would never forgive the Solar Empire for what they brought upon earth with this act.
From then to now
As of now he has returned to his normal duties as a soldier, doing what’s required to maintain peace. Namek has been restored and earth has rebuilt. At this point he has started to ask himself if he should try and take it a step further and try to advance into another branch. While the fight in North Capitol was horrific it was that kind of thing he had signed up for after all. To that end, he has finally started to learn a bit about Ki manipulation, because better late than never, and has found a way to infuse that his Ki into his bullets to ensure a smooth transition and to compensate for his lack of experience with firing Ki blasts from his hands. He has also learned how to supercharge his melee attacks as he has taken a liking to using either a entrenchment tool or spiked club to beat his opponent with when range isn’t on his side.
There was also the confrontation between Vi-Poi and some kind of robot in his hometown and while the battle was mostly contained within the King’s Castle, however, it did also leak into the city, though from what he heard the damage wasn’t too bad. However, he would be lying if he said he agreed on letting Zucceta live. According to him she still had to pay for the whole invasion. But it wasn’t his call in the end, he followed orders and if the higher-ups wanted to keep her alive then he wouldn’t question it. In the end, following orders was something he had been doing for a decade at this point. No sense in changing that now. If anything needed to change, it was the branch he was in. But for now it’s time to enjoy the calm, no doubt there is a storm is brewing on the horizon somewhere.
