Species Name: Buggu
Home Planet: Hive Prime
Starting Planet: Any
Starting Power: 500 - 1,200
Appearance: Over the course of their life times, the Buggu undergo a series of metamorphosis that alters their appearances in radical ways, depending on the environment they're exposed to. Because of this, the Buggu do not have a uniformal appearance, except for in their natural birth state. During this time, the Buggu resemble an over sized larva, possessing six spindly legs and four arms. They possess two claws and a thumb on each hand, which makes them useful in close combat, but they lack the dexterity for anything more complex. While in their larval form, the Buggu's skin is soft and rubbery, and they possess four eyes with two being in the standard location, with the additional two being located in the forehead region. Due to their body structure, the Buggu typically do not wear clothing, at least not in this form.

Background: A survivalist species from the regions of deep space, the Buggu resemble various species of insects and live in vast, planet spanning hive networks. Their society is matriarchal, with females known as "Queens" being in charge of managing the hive's operations. Queens are the only fertile females of their race, so the colony will protect them with their lives. If a Queen dies, one of the surviving females will undergo a metamorphosis to become the new Queen. If multiple females attempt to do this, they will battle each other for supremacy, with the losers either being exiled from the hive, or killed in the fight. Alternatively, extra Queens may travel far enough away to start up a sister hive, without having to fight each other for territory.
The original homeworld of the Buggu has been completely transformed into a gigantic hive, which they have come to refer to as Hive Prime. Every inch of the planet's surface is coated in some kind of hardened resin, with giant webs and underground tunnels scattered throughout the environment. The general atmosphere is disturbing to other races, to the point where they receive very few visitors. Instead, the Buggu have had to travel to other planets, if they wish to interact with outsiders.
Despite their low fertility rates, the Buggu are one of the fastest breeding races in the known universe. A single Queen gives birth to serveral hundred larva every month, and an unchecked population can quickly grow large enough to rival a small city. Because of this, most races who know about the Buggu existence have forbidden them from establishing colonies on their planet, with the Buggu who choose to do so anyways being considered hostile invaders.

Unique Characteristics:
Hivemind - The Buggu are connected by a vast, telepathic connection to their queens, and may freely transmit information through it. This effectively gives the Buggu access to the [UT1] Telepathy skill towards other Buggu they are familiar with, without using a tech slot.
Hyper Adaptive - The Buggu's greatest strength is their metamorphic ability to adapt to any environment. The more they're exposed to it, the more their bodies adjust to the dangers they face. Mechanically, this results in a 5% increase on PL gains.
Transformations:
Absorbent Carapace - X4 - Starting Transformation - When a Buggu larva senses a possible threat to their lives, their carapace can take on a rubbery consistency that is better suited to absorb impacts and deflect damage away from the body. This also results in making them more flexible, thus increasing both offensive and defensive power!
Drone Adaptation- X8 - 20,000 - The Buggu have the ability to change their physiology depending on the environment they're exposed to. When a Buggu larva finds an environment they would take to remain in, they may transform themselves to a form that is better equipped to survive within it. This transformation is permanent!
Hardened Carapace- X10 - 110,000 - With a new body and a new carapace, the Buggu Drone requires a better defense than simple elasticity can provide. When in danger, the Drone is able to adaptively reinforce their exoskeleton into a suit of living armor. Because the carapace is a natural part of their body, they can move freely without restrictions due to weight or design. Unfortunately, this state requires a lot of energy to maintain, so it can't be used for long periods of time without tiring out the user.
Warrior Adaptation - X15 - 150,000 - Buggu who wish to further increase their strength often do so by joining their Queen's military forces. Once they have acquired enough power, the Buggu drone undergoes a second metamorphosis, which is properly suited for life threatening situations, such as combat. This transformation is permanent.
Swarm Fury - X22- 250,000 - Everybody knows not to kick a hornet's nest, and the Buggu warriors are all too happy to demonstrate why. When they sense a threat to the hive, a Buggu warrior may enter a berserk state and attack without mercy. Despite the immense offensive power this transformation provides, however, it is exhausting upon both their minds and bodies. Prolonged use of which can leave the Buggu feeling hungry and lethargic for several hours afterward.
Praetorian Adaptation - X45 - 490,000 - Only the most elite warriors are capable of joining the Queen's royal guard. Buggu who prove themselves worthy to their Queen are capable of undergoing yet another metamorphosis, one better designed to serve her needs, both military and domestic. This transformation is permanent.
