PART Ø: THE PROLOGUE (WIP)
Darkness enveloped a particular tiny technician as his mind wandered in the depths of sleep's dream. Slowly, Capper's eyes drifted open... He was on his bed still, tucked tight under the dark blue covers. Vision blurred from the lack of his Scouter, Capper would quickly turn his half-awake mind to the sound of an incessant, annoying beep... His alarm clock on his Scouter, maybe? Reaching a hand off the bed, Capper would wave his arm around in search of his nightstand, which was to no avail. Leaning off his bed with one sleepy eye half-open, the saiyan boy would fumble around, leaning off his bed as he blindly searched for his beeping alarm. Eyes opening wide when he lost his balance, Capper would fall off his bed and to the ground with a thud! Landing face-first with a splat, Capper just let out a quick "Ow." as he landed on the ground. Putting a hand on his head as he slowly got back to his feet, Capper's dreary eyes would slowly open at first before snapping wide as he got a look at his surroundings. Glancing around in fear, the first thing the engineer noticed was that he was in some strange hallway. In the barely lit tunnel hemmed in by the perfect arching metallic walls, there was something almost gleaming ahead. It wasn't giving out light, more like it caught it at certain angles and reflected a brownish red hue. An ominous crimson glow shined from behind a windowless door ahead... And where was his bed?!
Confused and fearful beyond belief at this strange shift in his surroundings, Capper would continue to stare down the dreary, eerie passage, his brown tail between his legs. "H-ha..." Capper forced a laugh, slumping down and sitting on the ground. Nope, no way. He was not being baited into investigating whatever was behind door number one. "Welp... Okay then." The saiyan boy mused to himself, sitting cross-legged on the floor in the dimly lit, claustrophobic room. "...I guess I'll be sitting here for a bit." He spoke, closing his eyes. Glancing behind him for a moment, the boy noted nothing but darkness behind him. PART 1: THE PLAN
Was this a good idea? Capper wasn't sure anymore. Smudged stars began to fade as the sun began to rise, and clouds moved in the morning sky, faded into brilliant white by the red sun of Vegeta. They moved south, together yet independent. Gaps widened and close, one slides right under another and always they are changing shape. The bright, shining sun of the red planet of the saiyans started rising from the ground. It filled the sky with mighty colors of red and splashed the clouds with endless rays of pink. It was bright and mesmerizing as it inviting the stray saiyan mechanic to stare, deep into the horizon. Shaking his head, the saiyan continued to trudge through Vegeta's wastelands, a few flecks of orange ki flying from his petite form. Capper was a determined little bugger, for sure. He had a brief talk with his father before he went to bed last night-- It had been ages and Capper had been through so much, yet he still wasn't able to summon his own Skull Blaster. All the Hoffersons could do it- some on Collard's side of the family had their own skulls when they were much younger and weaker than Capper. Dire situations seemed to help one call upon their sentry skull for the first time, but the weak mechanic had never been able to summon one of those mighty guards.
Tail swaying about erratically, Capper was certainly determined to get a skull by his side, once and for all. The he could really consider himself to be a Hofferson instead of just being some weak outcast. The mechanic... wasn't sure where to start, but lots of saiyans seemed to go to the wastelands to train and become stronger... So that's where Capper was headed. Sitting on a rock and wiping some sweat off of his face, Capper would sigh and look forwards at the rising sun. It was very early in the morning, and his parents were still fast asleep. He only had so much time before they woke up and found his absence- although the saiyan boy did put a few pillows in his place under his sheets to serve as a decoy to buy himself more time. Capper picked up a few snacks from the bar before he left. Some fries with some ketchup packets shoved under his armor, and a bag full of other treats he found in the cabinets. He could do this. He would do this.
The sun was no longer Capper's summertime friend, instead it was an oppressive presence that sapped the energy out of every living thing. Wiping some sweat off of his forehead with a white cloth, the saiyan downed some of the water and continued, hopping atop a rock on a tall plaeteau he was traversing to get a look at his surroundings. The wasteland was scarred by many craters from battles past, and Capper could even make out some flickering ki on the horizion as two warriors duked it out. Clenching his fists, the saiyan turned, dramatically staring with a determined expression into the sunset. 'This idea was stupid...' Capper thought to himself silently, sitting down onto the warm rocks of the wastelands. Looking at his ground, the saiyan could almost see his own reflection in a nearby reflationary mirage. As pessimistic as he could be, Capper doubted his own ability to do this. He would most likely just get grounded again. Feeling something wet on his cheek, Capper would wipe some droplets off of his cheek.
Capper raised his arms with shaking, clenched fists as a few more tears tricked down his cheeks. 'D-Don't cry! Focus!' He coached himself, closing his eyes. Everyone believed in him! His family, Jor, Collan, Rafar, Defrosch, Cerci, and he was sure even Etoru had a soft spot for him. Opening his eyes, the saiyan could feel all of his friends' hearts beat as one. 'I'm going to come home with my own skull this time!! It's time to summon a Skull Blaster!!!' Putting a hand to his chest, the saiyan continued to coach himself to amp up. 'I'm a saiyan- a warrior race! It's who I am!!' Grabbing the top of his armor, the saiyan would yank off his chestplate with a quick grunt. Grabbing onto the scruff of his navy blue shirt underneath, the saiyan would yank the fabric off of his form as well. 'I don't need this...' He spoke, throwing the long-sleeved shirt on top of his armor, but quickly knelt down to fold it neatly and set it near the rock he was sitting on. Hopping off, the saiyan threw his arms up, a big smile on his face. "Alright, skull! Prepare to be summoned!!" Capper proclaimed, putting his hands on his hips and looking as confident as ever. His expression quickly squished though, a deadpan smile of confusion on his face. '...How?'
Slapping himself in the face, Capper tried to recall his father's words. A Skull Blaster was a physical, demonic incarnation of one's very soul and ki, yet they still were an enigma. Some of his family thought that they feed on negative emotions and energy, hence the first-time dire situation summons. Others thought that they were guardians that watched over their family from another realm. Capper's father imagined the skulls as usually empty shells that were made of one's own life force. They could be given life and personalities with extra training- but sometimes it just... happened. They truly were strange creatures, and Capper wanted his own so badly. Holding his hands up as ki began to flicker in his palms, the saiyan clenched his eyes shut and let his thoughts take over. 'Blaster! I summon you fourth, Skull Blaster!' He mentally shouted, gritting his teeth. More ki began to flare, almost knocking Capper off balance. He poured every ounce of of his focus into summoning fourth one of those mighty skulls. Throwing his arms back, the saiyan opened his eyes, roaring to no one in particular. "I CALL FOR YOUR AID, O' GREAT AND MIGHTY SKULL BLASTER!!!"
A moment passed. A tumbleweed rolled by as if on cue, and the ki in the weak saiyan's hands died down. Failure. "...Erm." Capper spoke, falling back onto the ground in a sitting position. Folding his legs, the saiyan thought for a moment. Maybe his skull was mad at him? Maybe it didn't want to be summoned by someone as weak as himself. Shaking his head, the saiyan looked up at the fading stars, directing his statement to that mythical skull of his. "I'm sorry I'm weak and bailed out on training with mom... It's my fault." Capper spoke, lowering his head, doubt taking hold of his mind once more. "Please?" He spoke, looking up at the sky once more...
Sighing, Capper would fall back against the ground, closing his eyes with a distraught, slacked frown. This was a bad idea after all, wasn't it? He could feel the rising sun's immense beating him for his mistakes, causing him to close his eyes even tighter to try to push away the sunlight. He really should get going home before his mother and father woke up... While he was daydreaming, the mechanic would suddenly felt the heat of Vegeta's star lighten, and a shade cast over his form. Opening one of eyes slowly, Capper would jolt back with a yelp when he saw a figure standing right over him!
Scrambling backwards on all fours with a quickened breath, the saiyan's vision blurred when his Scouter nearly fell off his eyes. After briefly recollecting his marbles, the saiyan boy's visison soon began to swirl back to normal. Standing in front of him appeared to be some kind of Saiyan...? No, that couldn't be right. Yes, he had a tail, but the tall man that stood in front of the saiyan sported eyes with black sclera and yellow pupils, illuminated by a yellow visor scouter much like Capper's own. He stood tall- most likely around six feet or so in height. The odd man seemed to don saiyan armor, but it almost looked like it was built into his skin. Slits in the armor let yellow light seep out like liquid. The man's hair was an unkempt mess of brown that seemed to move like fire in the wind. The stranger eyed Capper with a striaght frown, tilting his head to one side while Capper cocked his head as well, having calmed down a little. Maybe this stranger just wanted to chat..?
The man smirked, closing his eyes for a moment before speaking to the saiyan boy. "It's been a long time, hasn't it, Capper?" The man spoke, causing Capper's fear to be replaced by confusion. How did this stranger know him? His hair and voice did seem familiar- but Capper was certain he hadn't met some weird, mutated saiyan of this kind. Approaching the ever so flighty Capper, the man knelt down to connect his eyes with the engineer's own. "...Hm." The ever so familiar stranger spoke, narrowing his eyes and putting a hand on his chin. Pausinng for a few seconds, the "saiyan's" voice would cut through the silence like a knife once more. "You really don't remember me?" Cocking his head again, Capper pondered for a moment. Head tilting back, the saiyan spoke in an uncertain croak. "Nooooo...?" That settled it. This guy was a nutcase.
The odd man let out a quick chuckle, closing his eyes before staring down at the confused and flighty Capper from above. With a sigh, he'd cross his arms and stand tall, finally confirming his identity. "...I'd expect that you would know your ol' grandfather better than that, boy." He spoke in a blunt tone, opening his eyes again to see realization fly across Capper's face with an audible, high-pitched gasp from Capper. "G--Grandpa Courgi?!" Capper spoke in disbelief. Why did his old man look so... different?! Last time Capper checked, his grandfather was in critical condition after a heart failure on the battlefield. He was brought to Vegeta on his deathbed, and Capper left for the invasion of Earth a few days afterwards... "I... I thought you..." Capper stuttered while his tone croaked and cracked, momentarily forgetting why he came out to the wastes in the first place.
