Twelve Years Ago
A large hand rests on the head of Arco. Arco’s height indicates that this must be quite some time in the past, as Arco is only about the size of a large dog. “Watch over him Arco, for I won’t be able to…” solemnly speaks the deep and gravelly voice of a tall and wide robed figure. Arco’s head lifts up and sadness is clear in his eyes but he turns around and his little wings flap desperately as he clumsily flies off into the distance. Big Train would grow up together with Arco, the two getting into a lot of trouble. The pair would be thrown from orphanage to orphanage. Usually because Big Train would get picked on and Arco would defend him. In these dark times, they were each other’s best and only friend. But then came the day that drove them apart.
Four Years Ago
The young orphan Carnitos was running the streets and back alleys of South City, not the wisest thing to do in the most criminally corrupt city. But he was a dumb 12 year old with a reckless sense of adventure and too much of a boring atmosphere at his orphanage. But today he stumbled down the wrong alley. Because here, in the middle of an alley, was a man getting beaten by a mob enforcer. Five enforcers to be exact, all five were hitting the man repeated with metal pipes. “You’re going to throw your next fight if you know what’s good for you!” the leader of the ground shouted. And that’s when Carnitos noticed who the man was that was getting beat.
It was none other than Vitali! He was the hottest contender in the (totally not ripped off) Ultimate Fighter Challenge! An all styles go fighting league conducted in all the major cities. Second to only the World’s Martial Arts Tournament. He was definitely a hero to the young Big Train who had already found his passion for martial arts. He was a mountain of a man who's right hook would go on to influence Big Train’s own signature move, THE CONVICTION! Carnitos was terrified at this, but there’s no way he could let someone get beaten in an unfair fight, especially one of his heroes!
So Carnitos charged forward and smashed into the lead gangster standing over Vitali, sending him flying away from him with his already large frame. “What the hell?!” one of the other gangsters called out. The leader made his way to his feet, “Beat the little fuck up!!” he screamed ferociously. Vitali could do nothing but watch on, though he managed to barely shout, “Run! Get outta here kid!”. But Carnitos was frozen with fear as the five gangsters closed in, chuckling with glee at the beating they’re about to give. The leader of the group steps out in front of the other men, kicking Carnitos hard in the chest and sending him flat onto his booty. He raises the metal pipe, ready to bring it down on little Big Train’s head.
But then, in a flash a black shape shoots into Carnitos’s view. The figure was about the size of an adult horse and left a trail of feathers as It collides with the lead gangster, sending him shooting off in a heap. Much more effective than his own attack. “Arco!” Carnitos called out with a smile. Arco would look back at him and give him a little roar of approval before charging at the other men. Arco used his bird like talons to slash and slap all of the gangsters into submission. Those not knocked out would run in fear of the might Arco. That is, all except the leader who would brandish a handgun from inside his suit jacket and point it towards Arco.
“You cowards" the man spit out "This is how you deal with freaks!” he would say moments before firing a bullet directly at Arco. But to his surprise the bullet would ricochet off and back towards him! Passing just over his own head. The gangster would stare at Arco in fear, his mouth agape with awe. “Wh-what are you???” he’d manage to say out of his dry mouth before running away himself, screaming like a little girl. By this time Vitali had made it back onto his feet. “Wow kid, you hit him like a runaway Train!” he would say with a laugh. The young Big Train would scratch his chin in thought, “Train, huh?”.
Then he would realize just who complemented him and the shyness would hit him like a ton of bricks, “T-th-thanks Mr. Vitali…”. Vitali would continue “You guys make a great tag team! What’s your names?”. “I-I’m Carnitos and this is Arco” Carnitos would reply as he patted Arco’s back. to which Arco would let out a purr. “And we’re always h-happy to help one of our heroes…” Carnitos would look down at the ground and then back up to Vitali. “Hero? Gee, thanks kid, hah. Always glad to meet a fan” he’d give Carnitos a thumbs up. “Tell you what, as thanks, how about I give you tickets to my next fight? As you know it’s the championship fight!”.
“Yeah!” the youth would cry out and start jumping around, “That would be the greatest, that would be amazing, that would be…” he continued on as Vitali laughed and said, “Come on, let’s go get them”. Carnitos would hop on Arco’s back and the three walked off down the alley way and enjoyed a nice day together that only furthered Big Train’s love for martial arts. However, he would never get to see that championship fight…
Later that day
When Arco and Carnitos returned home that night, it was obvious just how deep the corruption in the city ran. The powers that be didn't find it safe for a wild animal to be loose in the city. So they sent a fleet of animal control police to the orphanage. It wasn't hard to find them. There was only one orphanage in the city and most everyone knew of the little boy with the mythical creature. A slimy looking man stepped in front of the ten or so men to hold out an offical looking paper. It was the same man from earlier! The leader of the thugs.
"Alright kid, the mayor doesn't find it safe for this thing to be running loose in the city. We'll be taking him to the zoo" he flashed a toothy smile. "NO!" the young Big Train screamed, "You can't just take someone against their will" Carnitos would step forward to get in their way. "He's just a stupid animal kid, get out the way!" he would push down Carnitos hard, sending him on his bum. Arco's attention would SNAP, rushing over to the man that pushed down Carnitos. Using his front talons like a horse, Arco would stomp the man into the ground. He would then buck his hind legs into another man at his side, sending him flying through the air.
However the rest of the men would all leap on top of Arco, proving to be too much, even for the mythical creature. Arco would buck and rock, attempting to shake the men free as the man closest to his head would attempt or hoop a lasso around his neck. Carnitos would growl with frustration and charge the man near Arco's head. "RUN AWAY TRAIN!" he would childishly shout as he clotheslined the man, dropping them both to the ground.
Arco would then manage to fling off the rest of the men now that he didn't have to worry about getting roped up. He would stop in front of Carnitos who would still be on the ground and nozzle him. Carnitos would lift his head "Run Arco, get out of here!" Arco would look at him confused, "You have to run away or they'll lock you up! Don't worry, we'll meet up soon and leave the city!" some of the men would start to stir and make their way to their feet.
"Now run!", Carnitos would shout. Arco would give him one last sad look before breaking off into a sprint. The little wings on his back would flap and flap until he clumsily made it off the ground and into the sky. The animal control goons could do nothing but look on as Arco made his get away. The young Big Train would smile, fully believing he would see Arco soon. But that would be the last time he would see his best friend... He would be sent to his final orphanage, in the far away village of Burrio.
Earlier This Month
Big Train had just been handed the first defeat of his martial arts career. He was lying face down in the sands of the Western Desert. For whatever reason everyone was gone and he was left there KO'd. That is until he was shaken awake by something large. It nudged him repeatedly until he awoke. When he opened his eyes he was met by something quite frightening, a giant animal face with glowing blue eyes.
He jumped and scrambled backwards onto his backside. That is until he realized... This beast... it looked familiar. It was Arco! He was a hell of a lot bigger but that cute face was unmistakable. "Arco?!" Big Train excitedly shouted. "Is that you??" to which Arco would reply with a whimper and a nod of its head. Big Train, at a loss for words, would wrap his arms around Arco's head in an embrace. The two had a lot of catching up to do...
