Nostalgic Ayumu Sorry for all the delays ;w; Heavy Weights equipped | PL: 38,282 | Weighted PL: 9,570(.5) Amy PL: 5,000 "Why are we here again?" Nabel sat cross-legged on the hood of the barn that he and Amy had been squatting in for the past twenty-four hours, staring at the abandoned barnyard blankly, a bored look spelled out on his corpse-like face. Though the demon didn't mind spending his time in an old, dilapidated building such as this (The young man had spent his days in worse hiding holes. He was literally a street rat since the day he was born, after all), he was confused as to why his Vampiric assistant would put up with this sort of environment. Especially not after they had earned enough money to reside in actual civilization again, at least for the time being. Amy may not have complained much over the past months, as the pair of them traversed the land in search of odd jobs, but her master could tell that she wasn't at ease with the vagrant lifestyle. "Nabel, we're waiting to meet my contact." Amy remained stoic, even as she rolled her eyes in irritation. She rarely emoted, so the tiny gesture of annoyance was either a very good sign, or an incredibly bad one. Though Nabel guessed that, with their shared luck, it was more likely to be the latter. "I explained the situation to you earlier." She sighed, doing her best to focus her attention on organizing the bag of supplies that they had bought in East Capitol the other day. She sat by the staircase and began shuffling about items, listing them off in her head. "Don't you remember, sir?" The Vampyre looked up again at Nabel, and frowned. Definitely not a good sign. "Well, I was kinda..." Nabel scratched the back of his head with his rotten arm (his only one), laughing nervously. "not completely sober, when we talked about this." Ashamed at another one of his blunders, the young demon spoke with a soft, embarrassed tone. He was like a guilty dog being scolded for peeing on the new rug. And he knew that, he still remembered his time in the puppy kennel. "Could I have a refresher, please?" He turned on the kitty-cat eye, with mixed success, and lots of internal bleeding. If anything, he looked scary rather than scared. In spite of the terrifying site just overhead, Amy's mood seemed to improve a bit. A tiny grin visible on her thin lips, if only for the briefest of moments. "She wants to introduce us to someone who can help." The young woman closed the bag with a quick zip, satisfied with its arrangement. She would probably check again hours later, as she was apt to do in times of boredom, but for now she would be sated. "If everything goes well, we might be able to-"BANGDespite how far away the pair were from ground zero, the explosive sound rung in their ears for several seconds. Something detonated in the distance, prompting the duo to turn to the direction of the blast. A vaguely female figure made her way through the smoke and dust thrown into the air by the eruption, and ran forwards with fearful energy. She seemed to be headed to the farmhouse. This was quickly followed by two flying outlines, which seemingly chased after her. Amy opened her mouth in shock, but before she could even speak, her former employer had already taken off of the ground, purple sparks of energy coursing visibly across his aura. He charged towards the strangers who emerged from the rubble on gut instinct alone. What was going on didn't matter much at the moment..

It was not a easy day all in all, finding a group of morons starting to pull out a few automated weapons taking themselves out on a village and then as some of the stronger villagers put up a fight most of them got slammed down to the ground. Yet it was still a moment where he was greeted with 'just another day' by the inhabitats, their eyes dripping with liquids and some of them bandaging their wounds in the hopes that nobody had to fall to the assault today. It was always a issue on planets with a large collection of races, with that single shining star who assumed herself to be the hero crashing through a wall as two super powered beings flew outwards, only to assault this woman with blinding sparks of energy and plasma, continiously raining projectiles onto the road as they kept urging her to run, to fly away as their collective energy caused a pretty large explosion to say the least, but no, what caused a tremor in the surrounding forests was nothing more than Hana losing her cool as she chose to slam the two down into the ground before making her way to chase after this being that flew away, keeping her eyes trained on the figure that was making her way while wounded, mutilated and assaulted mentally by an forced telepathic link, blood dripping from whip marks all over said persons body.
Yet it was not in Ayumu his nature to let Hana chase after this woman on his own, He simply brought forth as much energy as he could to chase after this woman too, not realizing that the building they were making their way over would make them seem to be the villains and only after the initial shock would this subside... Ayumu furiously trying to explain that he was not the cause of what had happened with Hana just slowly starting to controll the energy that was visibly flowing through her body, almost lighting up the veins under her flesh as there was a small spark of insanity visible in the balls that resided in her sockets, deep within her eyes. This woman was willing to possibly even kill if more victims were to fall, something she had not done in a while with a small rune glowing within the palm of her hand in the case something did happen.

"Like I'd trust you!" The young lady screamed in reply to the old man, panting anxiously as she continued to attempt to flee from the scene with the best of her abilities. It was clear that she wouldn't listen to anyone. Her panicked mind was way beyond listening to reason. And after the "You're one of them- it was a trap. You're trying trick me." She was practically raving, traces of blood could be seen as her mouth frothed from exhaustion. As she continued to sprint toward the barn, she gasped once more upon spotting a certain demon flying towards her direction. "You had more help- ey?!" The lady turned her head towards her pursuers for a split second, grey cheeks flushed from fearful anticipation.
"Well, guess what! I can take on all of y- MEEP" Without even finishing her sentence, she tripped in the midst of running, her desperate shriek masked by a soft thud, as she hit the ground face first. Groaning in pain, the woman pushed herself into a kneeling position, her ashen skin caked in dirt and sweat. She looked up once, frightened eyes staring defiantly at the three much more powerful beings that surrounded her. "Get away from me!" Willing herself to yell, the woman pricked her thumb on the single horn on her forehead, its vaguely red hue began glowing with energy. In an instant, the scared woman's power level shot up from practically non-existent into the hundreds range. In spite of the boost, she trembled, absolutely terrified by the circumstances.
"Okay, what the hell is going on?" Nabel finally stopped in mid-air, his only eye twitching in confusion. The demon's gaze darted rapidly between the horned lady, the woman with an immense power level, and the flustered old man who had said something that riled the chased individual up even further. He didn't like getting involved in affairs this grave, but with at least one other demon thrown into the fray, he felt responsible somehow. "Please, would any of you people like to clear this up? Because it looks like a big friggin' mess." He made sure that all of them could see his less than pleased expression, coolly crossing his good arm and the stump of his missing one.
"I'm meeting someone here soon, so I'd like to make sure the place isn't destroyed beforehand." The man added, and began glaring at Hana in particular. He'd never seen someone that strong look completely out of control before. Rather than be afraid, it pissed the little demon right off, though he tried his best to keep his reaction as stoically unimpressed as possible. "Thank you in advanced."

As Ayumu and Hana approuched the Oni that was standing before himself while looking quite dirty and wounded, an exhausting breath came from his mouth as he then looked towards the village behind him that still had smoke raising upwards into the sky. "Excuse us for this disturbance but we have eliminated those who are responsible for the raids... as it seems that the raids were not a uncommon thing to be happening, please learn to look beyond that vision of hate and... " projecting a small sphere of energy forwards which hana inserted her hand into before throwing forwards, cleaning the damage in the area up with a expanding pulse of energy whilest cleaning nearly everything of the dirt and filth that was located on our clothes "And accept that their torture is over, but i am not going to get any information on who did it unless you and your co-horts over here..."
A solid clap would then echo through the forest as Hana, who seemed pissed of mere moments ago started to take a deep breath while glaring towards the others as the rage in her eyes slowly died down before taking a few soft breaths to get her heart to stop racing from the excitement in this situation, it was negative, sure, but it still pumped her up when she had to chase somebody. "My name is Hana, that guy over there is Ayumu, we were helping this village near here who were victims of a raiding group, only two went to attack today but we suspect that others are nearby. We, or atleast i, do not believe that you two are responsible for the attacks but have you heard of anything? Because its a bit hard to leave this woman alone in the wild to get killed off by somebody else who takes their place."
Ayumu then continued the conversation, having taken this moment to close in the distance and use a few blue glowing hands that were detached from his body to check the woman for any damage, even going as far as to give a requesting look towards both Nabel and Amy, his eyes did not show any discrimination, instead there was this hardened kindness that had to sit through hundreds of hours of pain to help who he deemed close to himself, giving a soft smile "If you have any wounds you need help with, please tell me... Its the least we can do after bothering you. We have been trying to make a few concepts on how to help these people but they keep finding the targets in their new locations..."

"Seriously?" His eyes widened in shock, all matter of skepticism slowly ebbing away. "Damn, good on you and Ayumu for saving that village then." Nabel's irritated expression gave way for one of surprised concern, worry seeping into his voice. "I'm afraid we don't have any decent information to divulge. We've only been here a day." He trailed off a bit, sighing to himself, as he placed a rotting arm on the base of his skull. He held that position for several moments, mentally connecting all of the terrifying, little dots together. As uncomfortable as it was for the young demon to dissect and analyze the information, Nabel knew that he had to give the possibility the weight it deserved.
With a remorseful gasp, he tilted his head to the ground. "If there is a raid group in this area, that does explain why the house we've been squatting in is as empty as it is." He sighed heavily, shaking his head in disbelief. After a moment, the demon raised his gaze once more and frowned, still clearly upset by the ordeal. "Poor bastards..." He looked back at the farmhouse in the distance, tired eyes meeting that of a confused looking Amy, who tilted her head. "I wish my assistant and I could offer our services somehow. We didn't know nothing about bandits beforehand."
"You're lying!" The raving oni slammed a fist into the ground, the impact actually making a noticeable rumble. Still, she was too outclassed and terrified to do anymore damage. "They're part of them, you're one of the-"
"Right." Nabel raised his voice, cutting off the woman from her ramblings. He focused in on her for several seconds, as if to gauge her condition, before giving a satisfied shrug. "Since that's out of the way. How about we help her calm down?" The demon suggested, his single, bleating eyeball practically pleading with Hana. It was almost cute, in a horribly grotesque sort of way. "She might prove to be useful, when she's lucid. It seems like she might know something that we don't yet."

Realizing that this would get nowhere with the woman in the current state she was, Ayumu took this moment to close in on her, keeping himself open while slowly starting to set up a mental link towards the creature, the oni before his very eyes. The link albeit a little intense spilled information in all directions, the assistant would have gotten information regarding the painfull sections of Ayumu his torture while having to face his grandchildren who were asking about long dead family members that had gone to pass on the ship itself belonging to the raiders. Nabel would be faced with the constant training of a nearing fifty number of students that all had brief moments in his memory that had warm feelings yet at the same time there was this dark underlying truth that he knew he was sending them out to die and he was still blaming himself for it. But the emotion that was hidden beneath these leaking out emotions that he was shutting out from the line reaching the oni was a kind emotion that showed the entire day he and the group of misfit idiots on his portable stall going through the lands have been doing, searching for the victims, working the fields, hunting some animals, he was merely leaving a honest life as his emotions slowly spilled into her before then shutting of the connection unless it was forcibly severed as sweat dripped down his forehead. "I hope that is enough to prove us... Sorry if any of you got affected by that, i am trying to push my telepathy beyond what it does already..." Giving a pained smile while Hana was simply awaiting her time keeping a look out in the nearby area.

"Uh... No prob- bud." Nabel shifted in place uncomfortably, while his still far off assistant climbed up the barnyard steps, entering the abandoned home without a word. She was going to take a long break, and ignore this particular disturbance. The demon, on the other hand, didn't have quite as much luxury. He had already gotten himself involved with whatever this was. And he was still unsure of how to feel about the situation, as it isn't everyday that the demon's emotions are magically manipulated via psychic powers. Whatever evil energy made up his eternally depraved soul was not reacting well to the vague, powerful imagery that the old man forced into his mind. Unease crept from his chest and into his stomach, and for the first time in months, he was forced to relate to the helplessness of his own way of living.
The oni, on the other hand, was doing much better. Her quivering and wailing had subsided, as did the glowing red aura that engulfed her mere moments ago. She picked herself up, dusting the dirt off of herself with a weak wave of key, and turned to Ayumu. "Th-thank you." She bowed gratefully, still speaking a bit nervously. Though this time it was out of shame rather than dread. "I didn't know that you were the ones who have been helping us." She spoke up sheepishly, gaze still focused on the ground.

Slowly letting his body adjust to the strain of what would be a telepathic action before an soft spasm went through his body, an strange look in the eyes of the creature before him called Nabel who had started to stutter and even more quiet. An strange feeling starting to beat through his own chest as he started to slowly raise his own body, placing his hand if not blocked, ontop of the head of the Oni that was starting to calm down as he spoke "Pay no mind to it, i would not mind risking my own life for many people on this wonderfull planet that i call home, but sometimes even i feel like that i am not enough. Everything happens around you while you have almost no chance to stop the damage caused to your own planet just because you are too late." Ayumu, his focus having started to shift towards nabel as his body started to slowly make his way towards him, raising his back while slowly straightening his posture, something he had not done in a while with his back slowly having started to slump over the months of fatigue building up. Ayumu his hand slowly clutching into a balled fist before then reaching it out while his old and tired face, his exhausted and pained expression, it all seemingly washed away as honesty came up to the top of this pool of emotions as he smiled towards you, an genuine smile. "People become most beautifull when they better themselves, yet some people take comfort in helping others become much better... If i help you become better, would you please." Realizing he was not in a position to be demanding something as a equal, to request something as a equal, his back slowly started to make popping sounds as he placed both his palms on the floor. Ayumu letting a painfull breath hit the floor boards before placing his forehead on the floor before Nabel his feet, with his eyes squeezed shut, taking a seiza position before then continueing his speech. "Please allow me to request assistance, i am just one man on this world trying to make a diffrence, there are hundreds of creatures and species that live on this single planet and i am truely in love with it. Help me keep them save, help me find a place to keep these people who are in danger somewhere truely save and okay. I will help you train, i will help you become much stronger, just as long as you do not turn your back on these people even if it could kill the both of us as i have much to make up for with these past sins of mine." Hana simply sitting by the side lines as she akwardly took an strand of wood from somewhere on her body and started to slowly fold something akin to a ribbon made from a near flower like wooden object before putting it in the hair of the Oni that was infront of her "What is your name?" she asked, not wanting to interrupt Ayumu his conversation.

Nabel stared at the old man with his single, unflinching eye. A patchwork of misplaced hope and justified doubt spread across the creases of his ever expressive corpse of a face. After just having his emotions stimulated so strongly without consent, it didn't look like the demon would budge easily. Though his answer should have been obvious, Nabel wanted to get back in at least some way, even after witnessing Ayumu's humble display.
So the tiny demon kept a stern gaze locked on the old man, the evil energy that made up his aura rising and falling in rapid succession. "Holmes, I was literally spawned from hell's pits. This entire planet has it out for me." He grimaced, his voice growing more stoic by the second. Had he possessed brows, they would be slanted downwards at the moment. "I shouldn't give a damn about these Earthlings." Nabel spoke even more directly, a soft growl underlying his words. For the a long, tense moment, the lad seemed to be absolutely bursting with negative energy. "But against my better judgement, I do." He winked, finally dropping the angry act.
"I'm just screwing with you!" Nabel giggled, in spite of the half-lie. His early experiences with human beings didn't leave too good of an impression on him. But after what he went through in his home realm, the Earth was practically paradise. So of course he loved it here. "Of course I'm down with helping people. If all of your recruits as strong as your assistant over there, then count me in, my dude." The demon pumped a raised fist, before gesturing for the old-timer to finally stand up. He was content with his theatrics for the day it seemed, as he sheepishly offered Ayumu a calloused hand. Gesturing for him to stand up "Also, as much as I appreciate the- this, please stop bowing." His eyes shifted to the side, a slight flush of embarrassment covering his bony cheeks. "No offense boss. But I am not used to being treated with this much reverence. I'm a demon, yo. It ain't in our handbooks."
The oni smiled softly, as the wise man's follower gingerly placed a ribbon on her head. Given the chaotic state of her currently roving village, a gesture this sweet was an absolute treat for the villager. Her paranoia had been growing steadily for the better part of a month now, yet the little head accessory on her hair made her feel leagues better. "Thank you Hana..." She shot her eyes to the side, a rosy tint across the girl's ashen skin. "I'm Kuro. It's very nice to meet you." Kuro gave a nervous chuckle, and grinned. "Sorry again for the scene earlier." The girl apologized with a grateful bow, even more relief filling her spirit, in spite of the blackened aura that surrounded the area for a split second. She was beginning to feel something welling up inside her chest, an emotion she had all but buried many months before: hope.

Ayumu simply kept on his knees before then speaking suddenly, almost as if to instantly pick up where you stopped. "That is no excuse..." Slowly raising his body upwards, an strange fixation visible in ayumu his eyes as he started to straighten his body even when it hurted him from the few soft pops and stand straight before your very eyes. "I do not pray to god, as god does not protect us, he is just a altar of prayers stacked to the sky where he hides. But who am i to deny the aid of the devils that fuel our passion? My soul would be sold to you in a heartbeat if you were the one to listen to my prayers instead of making a statue out of it... And for that i do thank you. Even as a demon, even as a arcosian, even as satan himself, i would thank you for if you do good and as such i will keep thanking you from the bottom of my heart" before then taking out a small insignia, it was the symbol of hope written on a white background in a circle as he nodded lightly. Wanting you to take it while at the same time hoping that you would not make a fuss about it, yet if you were to grab it, a small button would be felt on the bottom... noted emergency? Would this send out a signal to ayumu if you were to need him?
-
Hana looked at the Oni in suprise, seeing the rather beautifull appearance of the creature before slowly brushing her fingers through her hair, continueing to slowly comfort the woman with a few select ways of patting her head as she was starting to become engrossed with just how soft and smooth the hair felt. It was supposed to be dirty, rough and coarse, but after all that chaos and fighting she kept those small charms of a woman with her, it was something she was truely envious of before then glaring towards the chest of the Oni and just speaking "You are lucky... truely..." only to look down at her own with a sad sigh.

"Oh- uh thank you, Ayumu..." Nabel gulped guiltily. As kindly as the oldman was, he felt a little bad for accidentally brokering the Big G topic. All the demon wanted to say was that he was used to keeping things casually. He didn't mean to get the old-timer riled up enough to dig as deep as he did. Faith wasn't exactly something that the demon had any sort of experience in. He hadn't even been introduced to the concept of god until he learned about the kami. And even back then, his most profound thought was: 'The green man who lives in the sky is just as helpless as the rest of us.' Granted, the Kami at the time was flipping Scargot, but still. The demon was entitled to his reservations.
"And ah, thanks for this too..." The shamefaced lad took the cloth, and sighed with relieved vigor. He flashed the old man another smile, one that was actually genuine, the top half of his lips pursing slightly in delight. It was almost like a cat's mouth, or perhaps a really hungry bunny's. Any expression of his that wasn't blood-curdling was oddly cute, in a creepily gross sort of way. "Heh, this looks familiar." Nabel nodded, as he examined the eight-pointed star on the collar. He didn't really know it yet, but it was a prominent symbol of peace. Though it didn't seem useful at the time, the boy cherished it, caressing it with a ginger palm. "I guess I'm sworn to fealty now, eh?" He grinned.
"Lucky? You really think so?" She asked with a confused smile, humming quietly as Hana ran a gentle hand through her head. The girl really appreciated the help calming down. "Hm?" She looked up atbefore tilting her head. Taking notice of the subtle shift in atmosphere, Kuro stared at the other girl with visible concern. Now that she could finally think straight, the oni began to realize how badly her earlier outburst may have affected her newfound saviors. And given how terrible her behavior was when she was panicked, it caused the girl a reasonable deal of guilt. "Is everything alright, Hana?" She asked sheepishly, putting a tender hand on the older figure's shoulder. "D-did I do anything wrong?"

While you took the object and Ayumu simply smiled as you seemingly took kindly to it before speaking about some form of fealty... He was suprised at first, why would you be sworn to fealty? The least that was going on right now was a simply friendship as the older fool he saw himself as would teach this boy some more tricks for his fighting style. Materializing an small set of cups, each with their own pattern from 'majin got booty' to 'drink the undrinkable, stew, stew, the drink', yet as he did this a small object slowly became visible within his hands, a large cannister holding some warm cocoa as he poured all four a drink and gave the demon a kind smile back "You will be an comrade, an friend and somebody that i would give everybody to protect. That is all i request, i am not a real teacher but i am also not a real warrior, i am just somebody who refuses to give up so please. let us drink to this" with Hana hopping away to shift the topic of her lacking chest size from the current situation as she dragged the Oni along to the warm cups of cocoa. "Ayumu, So will we raid that group of bandits that they have said to be underneath the ground in the mine systems?" Talking about an old mining complex that was used by people who had flying capabilities in their own blood, from feathered folk to ki warriors who mastered flight. It was an incredibly wide spanning area with hundreds of people running around at all times making their deliveries of material to the surface, but then the great war happened and nobody was able to do the work that required such specialized warriors anymore. Even the original investors vanished as ayumu slowly let a sigh escape "So, Sweetheart, you feeling better?" Ayumu then asked the Oni, hoping to see if she was truely starting to grow comfortable with the people in his group.
Hana herself had turned to the demon and was looking him up and down before then chuckling lightly. "I come from space, an planet that died, used to think that everything was lost untill i met that fucker" pointing her finger towards Ayumu as she then sighed. Almost painfully so but she kept a smile upwards "He kept bugging me with the beautifull sights on earth as my alter ego slowly manifested more and more untill i was able to execute him, crash landing on earth and was starting to see all of its beautifull sights. I saw people die, i saw people run and i saw people cry for a few billion years i could say, but yet... There is something more beautifull at seeing the trees that our lives are based on, seeing the flowers and birds... Isn't this planet beautifull... too beautifull to be hiding from because some others are trying to kill us?"

"Got it! Sure thing, boss-man." The demon nodded respectfully, completely missing Ayumu's point, as he grabbed a cup of cocoa as well. After taking a cursory sip, and finding himself wanting in a very big way, Nabel took out a small silver flask from the inner pockets of his cloak. He poured a clear liquid into his drink, the faint scent of spirits whisking itself into the air. With that, the hooded figure nodded with satisfaction, before listening in intently Hana's suddenly serious interjection. In response to that revelation, Nabel flicked a bald brow, looking back and forth between what the now calm Oni and the powerful warrior that accompanied the old-timer. He found it weird odd that they could calm down so quickly, given the tense state that the lot of them were earlier.
He was even more shocked when the woman approached him, and opened up on her circumstances with Ayumu. How someone could be so open with a total stranger was a thought beyond that of his blackened heart. Though even he had to admit that the pair's relationship was oddly sweet, if not as bizarre as any other in their universe. "He seems nice. You both do." Came the boy's only reply, as he raised a brow at the old man's direction, before smiling wholeheartedly. Nabel wasn't into the peace-fulfilling love for life discovery quest thing himself, but he found it endearing. That much was obvious, as he sipped from his cup. "I look forward to working with you two..."
"Don't call me sweetheart... please." Kuro bit onto a nervous tongue, silently sighing in relief, upon noticing that her sharp fangs failed to pierce the exposed flesh. She seemed to be doing her darndest to sound as polite as possible, under the current circumstances. Though she was genuinely grateful for the kind duo's assistance, and also their delicious magic cocoa, the demonness couldn't help but feel awkward by the older gentleman's aged, overly affable demeanor. "But thank you, I feel a little better now thanks to you." She nodded back, looking at the old-timer, then at Hana, before taking a sip of cocoa. Kuro vaguely remembered their fight with the bandits earlier in the day. "How about you and Hana?"

While Ayumu was simply looking forwards to the creature before his very eyes, Ayumu started to rub the bridge of his nose, slowly letting the air pass through his nostrils before then giving a look forwards. Seeing that he was rather comfortable with his way of acting, or at least hoping that he was before then taking a quick look around to make certain nobody would be looking “This village needs a place to stay and a ruler to take care of it. I would be incapable of going around constantly and talking to them when they need somebody who truly shows them what is what and how. Teach them the rules, teach them to pray, teach them to learn, just make sure that they are safe and I will teach you what ever you have to know, I will make sure to be the ultimate teacher towards you.” Ayumu finished, reaching out something he took from a small pack he had with him, a select few materials in it and objects along with a fine bottle of scotch.
Ayumu after speaking of these simple requests slipped his hands on the cup of hot cocoa before taking a rather generous chug as the warm liquids warmed his insides. Letting his body slowly accept the gracious warm up as he looked at the little Oni, That had taken a small sip, still thinking about the question that she had asked. “I do not feel fine because people like you are in danger and constantly have to suffer, I do not feel okay because I can still regret choices I have made... But you know what, it makes me feel alive even though in this very moment when I see those eyes of yours, filled with happiness, I am happy.” Hana softly nodding before realizing some of the implications as she manifested a spherical ball of energy that rapidly changed into a slipper that made its way to strike Ayumu his face as he let out a jolly amount of amusement made vocal with his booming laughter before then raising his body upwards and nudging his head towards Nabel “Hey, What were you planning to do here anyway? I don't mind to stop sticking my nose into personal business but I am curious.” Slowly trying to stand up before tripping forwards and having thrown an attempt to catch himself on a soft object belonging to the back of an Oni.

"I can promise a soft maybe on everything but the protection." Nabel gave a sorry sigh and chuckled, shamefaced as he gulped down the rest of the vodka-filled cocoa. He then pouted, casting a dreary joyless gaze towards the ground. "I ain't the ruler-type. Let's just say that I took a stab at it before, and that it did not work out well for anyone." The tiny demon explained, his scarred and ragged hand already reaching for the whiskey bottle that floated in front of him. After pouring himself an entire mug of scotch, and promptly downing all of it in a single, mighty gulp, the vampire yawned. He then continued to speak, his breath now reeking of alcohol.
"But I'll do everything I can to make sure that these people are safe." He said, voice brimming with rekindled determination. He turned towards the Oni girl, winking at her with his only working eye, before smiling eagerly at her. This earned him a reluctant grin, and a set of rolled eyes. "And hey, I won't go at it alone this time. We got ourselves a pretty strong ally in the village itself." He spoke with a sense of admiration, attempting to avoid any pretense at downplaying himself. Nabel seemed to actually be impressed by the girl's earlier display. That sort of tenacity, though marred by complete terror at the moment, was something that the wanderer could respect. Demonic values could be pretty skewed at times, especially among those originating from hell.
Nabel and Kuro reacted the same way to the familiar's words. They bowed their heads in reverence, fought back misty eyes, and looked back up at the pair with grateful delight. They even had faint flushes spreading across their cheeks, matching in a silly manner, as they realized their predicament. "Er..." The oni lady was the first to notice, and she quickly moved her attention from Hana to the cup of warm chocolate in her hands. "Thank you again, everyone. I'll do my part in this as best as I can." Kuro grinned, first at Hana then hesitantly at the others, raising the cup to her lips. She seemed to ignore the alcohol, as she sipped slowly. Satisfaction was spelled out on her young face.
The shorter demon, on the other hand, gave another nod out of respect, then shifted his focus to the old man. And just in time too, as Ayumu had just been knocked down with a small ball of energy. The sage then stood back up, before tripping once more, almost stuffing his face on Kuro's derriere. Thankfully for everyone involved, Nabel was there to dash forward with a swift burst. He stood between the two, cushioning the man's fall with his raggedy chest, his already minuscule figure being pushed closer to the ground. "Oi, careful there oldtimer. You could have landed on the lady's- assets." The boy pushed forward with one hand, helping Ayumu regain his footing. "That wouldn't be fun."
