Sansho

Species:
Makyan
Gender:
Male
Age:
45
Height:
6'7''
Alignment:
Lawful Neutral
Appearance:
Despite looking incredibly human, Sansho was born in the Demon Realm as a Makyan. His skin is a dark tan colour, which adds to his human-like appearance. He has crimson hair that spikes upwards, with part of it tied up into a topknot. His eyes are black with red irises, displaying his otherworldly nature to those who may mistake him for a regular human. His face is scarred and chiseled from the years of training and perfecting the art of the fist.
His attire often strengthens the notion that he is a mere human, in that it is a simple dark blue karate gi with the sleeves torn off, with the cut offs being frayed. Around his neck he adorns a set of prayer beads. Though their significance has not been explained by him, it is something that he is rarely ever seen without. Around his fists he wears thick ropes.
Personality:
A cold and powerful warrior within the demon ranks, Sansho's who reason for being is to hone his fighting skills and to test his strength against worthy opponents. He rarely ever displays any signs of emotion or reason, often allowing his fists to speak on his behalf, although he does occasionally display bursts of anger. His facial expression is generally one of anger and fury, and rarely does he ever crack a smile, though when he does it's usually in spirit towards a worthy foe whether they are worth fighting or worth killing.
Sansho takes his training incredibly seriously, and deals with those who trespass or otherwise disturb or interrupt his training are dealt with in brutal fashion. He often seeks out worthy opponents after such exercises in order to see how strong he has become. Despite his want for fighting, Sansho is more of an "I'll come to you" person, seeking out opponents rather than having people seek him; such actions he sees as foolishness or overconfidence that will result in their defeat.
Despite being a demon, Sansho has very little in common with other demons who tend to resort to deceit, trickery and back-handed tactics in order to obtain power or to further their own agenda. As a being dedicated to the path of the fist, Sansho has his own code of honor, or code of the warrior. While he seeks out foes in order to test his power—or in some cases, to gauge theirs—he tends to fight to the death those who prove to be his equal, and by doing so in combat he does not transgress his code of the warrior.
In line with his martial arts philosophies, Sansho believes in a fixed principle of self-worth. In particular, he admonishes hubris, foolish behaviour, or those who rely on dishonorable acts or other means other than their own fists to fight or gain power, to which would indicate, to him, a lack thereof.)
Though seen by most as nihilistic, dangerous, and even completely evil, Sansho has a deal of civility when he is not seeking out opponents. It is this perceived humanity that doesn't earn him as many enemies or animosity that one would think. Despite his fierce and intimidating looks, he is quite humble and respectful in comparison, though he still has very little patience for those who would provoke him in one way or another.
His more pacifistic nature is often seen when on Earth, a planet that often intrigues him to no end. Despite being loud, noisy, and often criminal in his eyes, he respects the human spirit in whatever they do, whether it's fighting or any other profession. He enjoys traditional Japanese cuisine, his favourite dishes being Kaiseki, a procession of small courses meticulously arranged on exquisite crockery made of the freshest ingredients designed to evoke the current season. Alongside that, he also enjoys servings of Tonkatsu (breaded and deep-fried pork cutlets) and Tempura (batter-coated seafood and vegetables). In the evenings he likes to dine on Yakitori (charcoal grilled chicken).
History:
Unlike most demons, Sansho was one given life by creation and not birthright. Created in the year 2763, Sansho was the creation of a group of five Demon Priests under the behest of Demon King Ashura: Paprika, a sorcerer whose power could shape flesh; Cumin, a master in the art of strategy and deceit; Cayenne, a demon of great physical prowess; Oregano, a telepath who could manipulate one's emotions; and Thyme, another sorcerer who could harness energy. These five Demon Priests used their magics in order to create an army of powerful warriors that would follow their commands to the word, and who would swear unfaltering loyalty to Ashura.
But creating a band of powerful fighters would take time. The Priests had convinced Ashura that in order to make them strong, they would have to be trained at a young age where the mind was still in its infancy, allowing these warriors to better learn and understand combat as though it were second nature. As such, these five new warriors would be created in the form of mere children no older than ages of eight or nine. Their bodies were moulded from flesh befitting of their forms, their minds and emotions were created from the darkness that dwelled all around them, and given strength and power through the harnessed energies that the demons had taken from the mortal races within the living worlds.
Among Sansho were four other children: Wasabi, a humanoid creature with draconic features with the ability to breathe blue flames; Karashi, a sickly yellow goblin-like creature with great speed; Shichimi, a female fighter who could turn her long, silver hair into steel; and Togarashi, the "brother" of Shichimi who had the strength to shatter rock. Though the five of them were born separate from each other, with the exception of Shichimi and Togarashi, they all considered themselves born from the same "family" and therefore siblings.
It was this family bond that kept the group together. It wasn't just the training that was arduous and taxing, but their lifestyle beyond the pits was unbearable to any mortal man. Those who could not keep up with the days training would have their meals reduced, would be beaten until near unconsciousness, have their minds burned by telekinetic surges. The Priests deemed it "motivation" for their new fighters to keep pushing themselves to get better and stronger, but they did not see it that way. Shichimi became ferocious towards men because of their continuous ridicule of her sex; Wasabi would often be locked in his chamber, left to weep and cry throughout the night until he fell asleep; Karashi would be sick after meal times, and dry heaving long after.
But they all felt the same thing; distain towards the Dragon Priests, and an intense, burning desire for revenge, to see them torn limb from limb with their own bare hands. However, that was beyond possible for them, for the Dragon Priests had complete control over them.
The years had not been kind to any of them. A decade passed since their creation, and none of them had became any better than what they once were. Wasabi had become almost zombie like with bloodshot eyes, the years of pain had finally broken his child-like mind; Karashi's skin has become swamp green and brown from malnutrition; Shichimi had become almost completely psychotic, with only her brother to keep her from going out of control lest she be punished by the Priests themselves; Togarashi himself had become a mute due to his prior outbursts getting him into trouble. As for Sansho, his face and body had developed hardened scabs of flesh from the countless lashes and lacerations he had endured from torture.
If anything were to be praised about in their situation was that the bonds they had with each other had become stronger and stronger through the hellish years. Sansho and Wasabi had been very close in the same vein that Shichimi and Togarashi were, with Sansho viewing Wasabi as a baby brother who he tried to care for as best he could, but there was only so much one could do in their place.
That bond was to be seen in its full, furious might one day in the year 2781. The five were scheduled to train in an arena-style combat pit, where they would be put against some of the Demon Realm's most powerful warriors. But there was no sign of mercy or ease from their opponents; the five of them were easily bested in combat. But no one had called the match after their defeat. Instead, their opponents continued to beat and mock them even as they laid within pools of their own blood. Three of them had hoisted Wasabi up by his arms and wings, with one demon repeatedly beating him in the face while the other two tried to tear his wings off. The draconic demon screamed and flailed and kicked as he was being tortured by these fighters, even more so than he once did, crying for help with tears trickling down his scaly cheeks.
Against all odds, inconceivable to those who sat to see this spectacle, Sansho clambered to his feet despite being nearly beaten to death, spurred on by the cries of his little brother and driven by his sheer Demonic Will. With reckless abandon he charged towards the trio of demons, driving his fist through the stomach of one of them who was tearing at Wasabi's wings, before executing the other with a fatal strike from his Tenma Shura. The last one who had pummelled Wasabi's face into pulp tried to run away, but was stopped by Sansho as he performed the Geikidou Oni, instantly killing him in the blink of an eye. The remaining two warriors had managed to flee the arena as the on looking Demon priests subdued Sansho with their combined magic, rendering him unconscious. The five warriors were carried back to their chambers, left to heal from their wounds by themselves.
It was the breaking point for Sansho. Within the following days of recuperating from his injuries, he has set out to kill the Demon Priests and to free themselves from their tyrannical control and treatment of him and his siblings. He had no qualms with killing anyone who got in his way, his rage and carnage leaving only a swath of bloodshed and broken bodies in its wake. From the lowliest of servant and attendants to the Demon Realm's guards did he cleave in twain, all in his hunt for the Priests.
Eventually he had found them in the chamber from which they had created him and his kin, once more working their magics to create a second batch of powerful warriors. They expected his approach, and took the time to mock and to taunt him in spades, revealing how they were just a prototype batch to be "stress tested" to gather vital information to use on their real creations. The notion that he was being used as a punching bag, used for their experiments, given life just to be thrown away, had driven him to the brink of his supernatural rage and strength. With Demonic Will he charged at them, ready to deliver a fatal blow to one of them before he was stopped dead in his tracks, their magics locking his muscles and sending pure agony through every tendon, every neuron in his body until he collapsed to the floor.
They had mocked him. They had abused him. They had tortured and ravaged his family to the point where he could no longer recognize them from who they once were. And that thought drove him to rise, to stand, even as every single fibre in his being had felt like they were about to be torn asunder from muscle and bone. But it was his greatest strength, and the Priest's greatest mistake, that kept him going; the warrior's fighting spirit that they had distilled upon his form at the moment of his creation. It was with this strength that he mounted his second impact, driven fist and foot through the dishevelled, demonic bodies of the Demon Priests until they all fell lifeless by his feet and his hands stained in their crimson blood.
With his goal accomplished, he ventured back to tell his family of his glory, and of their freedom.
But it wasn't as glorious as he had hoped. With the news of their freedom overshadowed only by their continuing hatred, the rest of the group wagered that, with the Demon Priests killed, that they would be able to overtake Ashura's demonic army and usurp him from his position, themselves being the sole rulers of the Demon Realm. Sansho, however, had no interest in their schemes of conquest, noting that they would only become targets of the other demons in time, and that they would be better off leaving the Demon Realm to pursue their own lives. But they were far too gone for such notions. They called him a traitor, a coward, who didn't deserve to be called a demon. Even Wasabi had disowned him. The tension became thicker than lead, and Sansho left before anything to escalate further.
He had gained his freedom. They all did. But it had cost him his family.
As Sansho wandered the Demon Realm in search of something to give him purpose once more, he was approached by the Demon King who had orchestrated his creation to begin with: Ashura. For the first time in his life, Sansho felt something that he had never came close to witnessed before—fear. Ashura admonished Sansho for killing his priests and ruining his plans to create a powerful army of warriors, but admitted that he could not blame him for seeking revenge, and that ultimately it was that power that made him strong. He offered to spare his life, but in return he would become Ashura's right hand. With no choice, Sansho accepted.
For years he trained under the eyes of Ashura. But things were not like they were before. It was better, more rewarding, more free without the expectation of being beaten and tortured if he did not live up to the impossible standards of those Demon Priests. Every day he would train with those who respected—or feared—him; he would dine on the most succulent of meat and the sweetest of fancies; he would live and sleep in an abode that would make the highest of nobles blush. If there ever was a heaven in this realm, then this was it. His training had made him stronger than he ever was. He felt as though he could take on anyone and anything.
But much sooner rather than later, he would.
Ashura had appeared to him once more, at a time like none that the Demon King usually would. he had told Sansho that there was an uprising, an insurrection within the ranks of the lower warriors of the Demon Realm that had been brewing for the last several years, and that they had finally decided to begin their march upon him. he tasked Sansho with being the one to deal with their leaders, who had already made their way into Ashura's castle. Sansho was not to let a single one of them live.
The new lavish lifestyle had clouded his memory. The joy that he had felt that he was finally being treated with the respect that he deserved had washed away the life he had prior, the life that was filled with misery and torture and famine and long nights of painful sleep. The life that he shared with his family. It pained him, tore at his heart, to see that the enemies that stood before him was the family that he once knew, that he once loved. The family he still loved.
The feeling was not mutual, however. Shichimi was the one who was the most vocal about their plans to usurp Ashura from his throne, so it was only befitting that she, one of intimidating, feminine charisma would lead the army, and be the first to call Sansho out on his allegiances. She berated him, calling him Ashura's lapdog and a traitor to his own family. But before they could engage, Ashura has split off the five of them, keeping Sansho away from them while the other four were sealed behind cells of energy, split from one another. He laughed at their futile efforts, chiming that Ashura was his finest warrior and that he would kill them one by one. Sansho knew that he had to lest he be killed himself.
Shichimi did not care, and demanded that she be freed so that she can take her rage out on Sansho before dealing with Ashura. The Demon King complied, and released her from her cell to fight Sansho. Without hesitation she attacked, using her flowing silver hair as shield, battering ram, and wall of spikes to fight her opponent. But Sansho's strength was too much for her, and a single punch shattered her needle-like hair into pieces, several of which pierced through her own head and body, killing her. His fists trembled at the notion that he had killed his only sister.
Togarashi cried out in grief and that he would kill Sansho for it. Once more Ashura released the next fighter, and the two of them clashed with a flurry of blows. Togarashi was strong with his fists, able to parry and match Sansho blow for blow, but it was Sansho's cunning and strategy that would overcome his brother's reliance on brute force. Appearing to be hit by a powerful blow from Togarashi, Sansho instead used his Shura Senkuu to leave behind an afterimage, and then strike from above with his Tenma Shura, dealing a decisive blow to the base of his brother's neck. The attack was meant to only knock him out, but the thrill of the battle between life and death made him use his Demonic Will, with enough power to kill Togarashi with a single strike.
Ashura cackled as he watched Sansho kill two of his siblings, delighted with the outcome and the loyalty that his right hand had shown. As he awaited for the next opponent, the two remaining ones, Wasabi and Karashi, said nothing. Regardless of their silence, Ashura had released Karashi from his cell and ordered him to fight. Instead, the goblin demon tried to flee, only to be struck by a bolt of dark lightning and incinerated into ash. Filled with rage, Sansho cried out that this was not Ashura's fight. The Demon King chided him, saying that it was his realm and that he would do as he pleased, before ordering Sansho to kill his last remaining sibling.
The two stared each other down for moments, neither one of them making the first move. It was at this time that Wasabi spoke of how he never truly thought of Sansho as a traitor or a coward, that he was so caught up in the moment that he blurted it out without thinking. In truth, he missed Sansho and just wanted them to go back to being a family again. The dragon demon's words made Sansho pause, made him think. But he only replied that one of them had to walk out of the arena alive. Reluctantly they both fought; Sansho struck out with fist and foot at his brother, while Wasabi retaliated with tooth and claw and fire. But he knew that he couldn't best his big brother, who had always been strong and strategic and had always outperformed all of them in every training session that they had.
When Sansho had delivered a blow that could have been easily dodged or blocked, Wasabi instead opened himself up to the attack. His stomach was run through by the roped fists of his sibling, pierced from front and through to back. Sansho recoiled as he realized what Wasabi had done, lost for words. Wasabi had told him that he knew he couldn't win, and so deliberately took a fatal attack. With tears in his eyes, he told Sansho that he would always love his big brother.
For the first time ever, Sansho cried. His tears fell upon the cheeks of his little brother as he fell to the ground. Ashura, however, laughed maniacally before descending down to Ashura, congratulating him and saying that his training was now complete. However, Sansho lashed out and struck Ashura with a mighty blow to the face, smashing him away into a faraway arena wall. Perturbed by this betrayal, Ashura bit that he would kill Sansho, just as he had killed his whole family.
The two clashed in a swirl of dark sorcery and a flurry of demonic blows, trading punch for punch and kick for kick until Sansho once more released his Demonic Will to gain the upper hand, battering Ashura with tens of blows to his face and chest and stomach, before going for the killing blow with his Tenma Shura. Ashura had disappeared though, having teleported in the air above, seemingly unharmed. The Demon King mocked him before assuming his Demon King form, the power for which he was given his title, and quickly smashing Sansho around like a ragdoll.
Sansho was no match for him now. His body was beaten and his power waning. But he began to feel a surge of power, power that he had never felt before. The power of the Makyo Star, that had been active for some time, had began to renew and suffuse his body with greater power, power enough to at least hold his own against Ashura. Once more the two fought, their strengths still far apart, but Sansho still had his wits and cunning to help him, something that other demons seemed to lack. The two were now trading one hit after another, keeping up with each other's power and speed for what felt like hours.
But in the end, Sansho fell, but not without doing his fair share of damage. Laid upon the rubble of the arena, he was approached by Ashura, who congratulated him on being able to deal this much damage to him, but now it was time to die. He extended a hand out, two fingers pointed at his chest as he charged a ball of dark energy at his fingertips.
Ashura mocked him, asking him for any last words. Sansho quickly grasped at the fingers of the Demon King and had told him to die before releasing his Gekidou Oni on him. The combined power of his Demonic Will and the Makyo Star had made the attack more powerful than ever. Ashura felt his soul being dragged from his body and through the Demon World, being scratched and clawed and lacerated by every single demon that he earned the ire of before he was killed, all in the blink of an eye.
The battle had been won. He had truly earned his freedom this time… but now he had truly lost his family too. In grief he had left the Demon Realm, not caring what would happen to his home now that there would be infighting over a new Demon King. He left the Realm for a place that he could feel calling out to his warrior spirit; a planet called Earth. For many years he wondered the planet in search of the one thing he knew—fighting, and fighting worthy opponents.
It was during this time that he came across a fortune teller, one of considerable reputation. He approached her, expecting her to recoil from his figure in fear or at least surprise. But it was much to his that she expected him. She knew who he was, and that she knew that he would seek her out to find some sort of consolation in his grief. Though she said that she could do nothing for him, she gave him a set of prayer beads, saying that it was old human tradition that the soul of the loved ones who wore it would forever be by their side. He thanked her for them before leaving, vowing that he would keep their memories in his heart.

This may leave the opponent stunned or temporarily paralysed (at the opponents discretion). The attack is usually used in conjunction with a counter or with Afterimage to aid in a successful strike. The attack deals 33% PL of the user.
Goumahadou (豪魔波動 ; lit. "Great Demon Wave")

If the opponent is caught, the user delivers a fast series of whirling kicks as they both ascend, culminating in a final strike aimed at either the torso or head to send the opponent flying. The attack deals 66% PL in damage.
Tenrai Jishinretsuzan (天雷地震裂斬; lit. "Heaven-Thundering Earthquake Rending Slash")
[UP2]

Tenchi Kinjite Maken (天地禁じ手魔拳; lit. "Heaven and Earth Forbidden Hand Demon Fist")
[MP3]
A more powerful Goushouma, using the utmost of the user's power. The user first sends the user into the air by some means, before jumping after them. With a huge amount of Ki built into their fist, they drive it into the airborne opponent. The attack deals 100% PL in damage.
Tenshou Tamashidan Jin (天衝魂断刃; lit. "Heaven-Piercing Soul-Severing Blade")
[MP3]

Tenma Keiraku Shurettou (天魔経絡朱裂刀; lit. "Sky Demon's Meridian Point Vermilion Rending Blade")
[V2]
A derivative of the Tenma Shura. The user executes the attack as though they were performing the Tenma Shura, but aims to strike several points instead of a singular vital spot. With a bladed hand, the user uses their ki to disrupt the twenty-two meridian points along the opponent's spine, disrupting their senses and channeling of energy. The attack deals 33% of the user's PL in damage, as well as negating an opponent's charged technique if that attack's power is within 80% of the user's PL. At the opponent's discretion, the attack may also lead to blurred vision and lack of balance and coordination.
Tenma Keiraku Gou Shurettou (天魔経絡豪朱裂刀; lit. "Sky Demon's Meridian Point Strong Vermilion Rending Blade")
[UV3]
A stronger version of the Tenma Keiraku Shurettou, the user uses their ki to also damage the vital organs near the opponent's spine, such as the heart, lungs, and digestive tracts. The attack deals 66% of the user's PL in damage, as well as negating an opponent's charged technique if that attack's power is within 80% of the user's PL. At the opponent's discretion, the attack may also lead to blurred vision, lack of balance and coordination, hard breathing, and chest pains.
