"Oh, Akio... you'll make me so proud. Your father was wrong about you, you know. You'd have made a great king for your people. There's a wisdom in your eyes, as if you have lived many lives beyond this one. I know I don't have much time left... but know that I will always be watching over you. I can't wait to see you grow, my son."
The wind screams volumes, channeled down into the narrow canyons of the Gizard Wasteland, littered with rocky outcrops. It was as if the world was moaning here, in this desolate wasteland devoid of most life. And, the place had seen bloodshed... Akio could feel it in the soil, the dirt and sand in which his fingers danced. He lifts his hands, a trickle of brown particles flowing through the air. Perhaps it had seen violence as long ago as two thousand years ago, in a desperate battle to save Earth from tailed invaders, or perhaps only one thousand. Perhaps more recently.
Or, perhaps soon, in the future - for time was non-linear, and perhaps the soil knew. Perhaps the Earth knew.
Callahan stands. The afternoon was dying, the sun already beginning to slip behind some of the higher rock structures of the wasteland. He didn't know why he was here, but why did it matter what path he took if he did not know where he wanted to end up?
Akio was lost. Oh, he knew totally where he was, he could fly to the nearest city in half an hour. No, he was lost in that he had no purpose anymore. He knew he had to carry on the spirit of the Crane school, but he could not trust in himself to be a capable teacher. He had too much he didn't know about himself, his past, his family; he couldn't fully dedicate himself to the training of others when he had yet to discover who he truly was.
And so the young master, who was taking on a multitude of names by this point, continued to walk, a dark wind howling around him as his destiny draws closer with every step. For everybody Akio Callahan came across would change him in a meaningful way, and make him the man who would walk the earth tomorrow.

Oguma struggled northwards with Mei at his side. As they walked through the blustering snow and wind he noticed someone new ahead of him and pointed. "Is that a man ahead of us in a gi?" he asked Mei.
Mei squinted as she focused her brown eyes on the distant figure and shrugged. "I don't know, but if you're still hungry Oguma that's going to have to wait. You have a barely holding together injury on the back of your head." Oguma felt her slap him on the back and cried out in pain.
Tears welled up in his eyes and he said, "Go towards him, I want to meet this guy." So they did since arguing with her big brother's words was something Mei never liked to do. Oguma licked his lips as he thought of getting himself a large meal for the day and smiled.

The young half-saiyan shivers. Something wicked this way comes. And then he sensed him, then her.
He twists around, orange gi rippling in the gale. His energy was wrong. It didn't feel like anything else he had felt on this earth, not really - as if he was only wearing the shell of a human, the same with her. A hollowed out vessel filled with...
Horror. Evil. Fire.
The hybrid takes a breath, calming himself, before tensing himself up very slightly. He knew something was going to happen.
"Hello there!" Callahan shouts cheerfully to the two beings heading his way. "What brings you out to this canyon?"
He was hiding his emotions well. He felt fearful, and excited all at once. The man seemed to be in pain... or perhaps it was a trick, to lower Akio's guard.

Oguma walked up to the man in orange, leaning on Mei as he did and said, "Nothing, absolutely nothing brings us here since we are just passing through."
He looked at Mei and whispered, "Mei, I don't know who the guy in front of us with brown hair green eyes is, but he's definitely got some muscles underneath that gi."
"I know brother," she whispered back, "I don't care to fight yet if we don't move him aside you cannot continue on with me towards home. I'll give you some of my life force and see if I can heal you some more."
Oguma smiled and felt Mei touch the back of his semi-bleeding head. It had healed a bit since he'd retreated from the monk Azurai. Sadly, his condition was still that of someone recovering since he'd been getting treatment from his kind sister. The glowing of her hand stopped and he watched her step back before gripping his spear and looking at Akio again.
Pulling it slowly from the holster he had on his back he uttered, "I suggest you run right now." While he said these words he let his power rise and felt his dark, black ki surround him. He began tapping into demonic power of his realm and when he was said and done it stayed around him like the darkness of the night air.
His lip curled up and he revealed a set of jagged white pearls inside his cruel mouth. He licked his lips this time and a slightly pointed tongue lashed out his mouth and covered his face in saliva. He was only tapping into a small portion of his demonic power with his Psychobreak transformation, since he could not access his real demon form on Earth, but he knew this would be more than enough to kill the dumb human before him. All he had to do now was wait and see if the human would flee. A little power went a long way towards controlling the mindsets and motives of creatures.

Akio smiles as the two demons whisper among themselves, but he begins to unconsciously slide into a defensive stance. It was obvious that they were talking about him, and Akio was beginning to hate the feel of them. Most people felt of nothing at all, some people felt sweet and few felt sour.
But the aura radiating off of these two was putridly evil, far stronger than anything young Callahan had felt before.
The young saiya-borne slides to the side as he feels the demon power up. Even without transforming Akio would have struggled to beat Oguma, and now it seemed impossible - the young half-saiyan was incomparably weaker in his current chi output.
But...
What Oguma had going for him was having a way higher chi level, and Akio was uncomfortably aware of his advantage. But...
Oguma was injured. He had been healed , but Akio knew the spot was still weaker. And Callahan had many techniques at his disposal that could prove useful. With enough of a charge, his Kikoho would be able to seriously damage the foe.
He hoped. And even that was risky. Still, it mightn't come to that.
"I have no quarrel with you, hollowed man. I did not intend to get in your way."
And he steps further to the side, heart pounding with... Excitement?
Did he want to test himself against this evil man?

Oguma's power overflowed through pore of his body. He noticed as it did that the power alone was melting a bit of the ice at his feet and smiled, clenching his left fist with pride. The man before him entered a defensive stance and his eyes looked defiant to him. His foe, no prey was probably putting out barely anything compared to his own power now and it disappointed him since he could not actually gauge a person's true power with his abilities. He could only tell by how they acted towards him and for a moment he would not fight Oguma.
The reason Oguma felt this was that he could hear it in his next words. They were the words of a man of peace. Like the annoying weak monk Azurai Oguma had just had to fight. He suddenly felt someone's hands on his back. And turned his head for a moment to see Mei directly behind him inching her hands underneath his armor and under his shoulder plates. She had stepped up behind him before he had even begun to make his move.
"Relax, big brother, your snack will not hurt you like whoever hit you in the back of the head," she told him, acting like a boxing coach before a big fight.
Oguma sighed and voiced, "That monk Azurai, the guy I fought before, hid his power. This guy could be too."
"Well, then don't hold your cards. Show all your power like you are now and just kill him," Mei told him as she kissed him on the back of his head. This would be the last time she stepped in before Oguma attempted to attack Akio. He needed the confidence boost and Mei had given it to him.
Without a second thought, Oguma twirled his spear in his left hand, let his ki flow into it, and closed the distance between himself by rushing at Akio with his full speed. Once he felt he was a good three feet from the man he pulled back his arm and thrust forward towards the man's chest hoping to score a blow directly in the heart and finish him. He did not charge his weapon, he did not pause in his attack now, he simply plunged his pointed tool at his foe and told him, "Eat my 'Spear Thrust' you human pansy."

Of course. Akio would have been struck down in an instant if he had not been prepared for violence. Acting peacefully towards the demon had just served to irritate the dark being. The demon plunged towards him relentlessly, and if Callahan had blinked he would already have been impaled.
But Akio was no human pansy, not in any sense of the phrase. He was one of the strongest Earth-born warriors, and as the Crane master his skill was indisputable. The hybrid had barely any time to respond, but for the sole Crane master determined to continue his legacy, barely any time was more than enough.
The spear would pierce through Akio... And continue, as the image of the hybrid would shimmer and fade. In a blast of movement, the hybrid had placed himself behind Oguma in one neat Zanzoken... right where the demon's head wound was.
If the demon wasn't going to play fair, assuming a transformation that Akio couldn't hope to match at his current power, then the only way our protagonist could possibly continue to fight was exploit all he could of the demon's weaknesses. If that was by making good use of his own techniques, and attacking a previous wound, then so be it.
Akio wrenches his right arm up, and launches a golden Dodonpa Ray at the back of the demon's head, shouting: "Don't boast before you have a clue!"

Mei, who was standing only a few feet from the battle, watched as her advice to Oguma utterly failed him. The human he was fighting simply vanished into thin air leaving behind an image of himself that Oguma struck and dissipated. Yet she could sense her brother was in danger. She was a demon with few combat skills and with healing, flight, and the ability to sense others' ki she knew she would get in the way if she stepped in now.
Yet the urge to shout out and warn him of the danger coming towards him welled up inside her. "NII-CHAN!” she screamed as she watched Akio fired his golden beam from behind. Oguma did not have the combat reflexes or training to respond. Even with his level of power, he would not come out of this unharmed no thanks to where his foe was aiming at.
Oguma felt the fear in his sister’s voice and wanted to turn to face his opponent; however, even with all of his power he knew he was slow. His fight with Azurai previously had shown that when he had fallen for the same trick as this man behind him had used. The golden energy surged forward and although it was small ate through the black ki emitting from Oguma’s body. Then without mercy it slammed into the back of his head and exploded, knocking the poor demon to the ground.
“MY WORK!” Mei screamed in fear as she watched blood bubble up from the back of Oguma’s head. His ki was still flowing, which meant he was alive, though he had to struggle to his feet to stand and did so only to find himself using his spear as a crutch again for a short moment before he sheathed it in its holster again.
“STUPID MEAT!” he screamed as he turned towards Akio and frowned at him. “You think your parlor tricks and laser beams are going to kill me? I am Oguma Inugami and I will be the strongest demon there is!” His breath grew heavy as he exhaled all those words in a fiery rage and his fists shook uncontrollably.
Mei felt his passion to fight through every bone in her body. She did not know why, but it turned her on again to the fact that she could not fight for his sake here and now. She could only be a spectator as this cheating human went about playing tricks on her brother. Before she could get in any more words she watched her brother charge Akio with a full on body tackle. It was miserable to watch since it was likely his foe would dodge again even as he stretched out both his arms to grab him into a potential bear hug. The fighting style of Oguma for the time being was uncouth, random, and relied completely on his massive power difference.
Mei counted off the number of techniques in her head that her brother had and it really made her pity him. He had a powerful thrusting technique with his spear, a manly human disguise that made her almost want to marry him if she could, the ability to summon a gate to Other World (sadly something he could not open himself), and the ability to use basic ki. She figured he would start throwing basic ki blasts at this point but for some reason he was hell bent on punching his foe probably because he was leaking blood out of the back of his head.

Even as the other demon screamed out to her brother, Akio knew his blast would hit it's mark. Oguma was far too predictable in his movements - he had power, strength and speed but his skill, his technique; those, it was beginning to become apparent, were his weaknesses.
The tiny beam exploded with a huge amount of force, such was the nature of the Dodonpa. It was streamlined in a way that it packed the same amount of energy as a wider attack but condensed into the thinnest of rays, and gave off a surging heat. If Oguma had been an ordinary human, if he had survived the attack his body would have been covered in burns, but fortunately his aura had shielded the rest of his body from the explosion... but his weak point, that crucial wound by which Akio had the slimmest of chances of winning this fight, that had suffered greatly. Akio couldn't help but grin despite his inner tension. If he could possibly pull this off...
The wind shrieks, an almost visible gale blasting through the canyon as the demon skidded across the ground slightly. Akio could sense his chi, still burning brightly in the icy crevice. He released a breath, a fog of exhalation whipped away from his reddening lips. His white bandana flowed freely in the cold winter sun, a beautiful fluidity to it's motion as the young martial artist assumed a defensive stance. For a second assault, Callahan would ensure he was more prepared. He knew the demon's speed, now, and his violent manner.
His heartbeat pounding through his body like the drums of ancient warfare, the hybrid gazed upon his opponent with a mix of amused excellent and silent fury, the mindset of a warrior gaining an advantage despite the odds, a single saiyan against an Oozaru. As he watched his opponent painfully pull himself from the ground via his spear, he chuckled; "Parlor tricks? My my, how absurd - I am a master of the Crane style of martial arts, and should I have used a different technique back then you may well still be lying in the dirt." If Akio had used the Kikoho technique, he could imagine that Oguma wouldn't have got up. It probably wouldn't have killed the demon, but unconsciousness was a different matter all together.
So, these two creatures were 'demons'. Callahan had to agree that it made sense; the two being's chi felt vile, the most evil he had ever felt 'pon this world. Akio had to admit, he was slightly disappointed... he had expected horned beasts, hooves and snake tongues.
And then Oguma plunged towards him again. Once again Akio had little time to measure the speed and strength of his foe, but this time his stance was ready. He had honestly expected his opponent to fire a chi attack his way, but this was far better than that. Oh yes.
In a split second the young half-breed crouches and then pounces upwards, spinning in mid-air as the demon charges underneath his nimble frame. His right foot cart-wheels down as the demon moves past, aiming to clip the demon once again in his head wound and pushing Akio further into the sky... where he would remain using the Sky-Dance or bukujutsu technique his own master had not even been able to fully control. The kick wouldn't have hurt the demon had it landed anywhere else on the body, but.... weak spots. If his foot didn't connect with the demon's head, he would push himself upwards anyway with a small burst of chi, so that there was a considerable distance
"I have to say, Oguma... you have awesome potential. If you could hit me, I'd probably need to go to the hospital! But... come on, my man. Look at how you're wasting your speed! I'm guessing you got that wound from a similar situation." He chuckles loudly, all the while remaining on high alert. Aggravating the demon would only further his cause... make him sloppier, in fact. That was Akio's plan, anyway.
He might just get out of this without a broken neck.

Oguma once again found himself in a pickle. He heard Akio's comments on being the one and only master of the Crane style and had no idea what that meant. He did know that it seemed to be a rather weak school relying on speed, which Oguma took note of, when Akio flipped over top of his lumbering frame and smashed a hard right kick into the back of his head, he was lucky it was only a clipping blow. Once he had taken the hit though Oguma started to fall as the kick took it's toll on him. But he kept his balance by rolling forwards against the kick's momentum and into a ball. When he came to stop he stood up and felt more blood drip from the back of his head.
"Bro-brother..." Mei whined as tears started to drip from her eyes. Oguma was bleeding worse than before now yet the goodie-two shoes human warrior before them was acting all high and mighty by giving them a nasty compliment. It caused her eyes to burn with a surging red ki and made her want to go out and strike the fool herself, even without the samurai swords she usually carried.
Unfortunately, Oguma raised his hand and said, "Don't he's kicking me in the head where my terrible wound is. I hate to say this, but I can't keep up with the little punk." His ki began to lessen as his anger started to subside and with that his Psychobreak transformation ended. He just could not find a reason to bring out his desire to kill when his prey was currently beating him up. So he was going to give up and have a snack.
"Mei, food, now!" he ordered as he held out his hand.
Mei had no idea what he was talking about she did not have any food. "MEI! FOOD!" he cried again in a less pleasant tone as he turned towards her. Oguma knew she always carried a little something for snacks on the road, but Mei was not about to give him anything and he knew it. He could tell because she put her hands into her front pockets and did not move them.
"I know you have food." Oguma voiced in a calmer tone. Mei rolled her eyes and dug deep into her front pockets to dig out some shredded up meat and torn up human fingers, which she held up in her hands for all to see. "Chicken fingers or liver?"
Oguma laughed and looked up into the sky at Akio. "Hey, stupid human, which should I eat? Since you're blocking my path on my way home for a family meal which would you say I rather have? Bleeding human fingers or the torn out liver of a weak human? Both I hear are full of nutritious blood and spiritual energy. So why is it you try to push your flabby bodies to the limits and become warriors and martial artists?"

There is a limit that the mind of a sane man can reach. He can reach it and bounce back, or descend through it, bursting through the barriers that healthy biology imposes and just losing his mind, engaging the flight or fight adrenaline in the organic body for far longer than it should be active.
Akio did not break through that barrier, but it was close. Those were definitely fingers, blood not yet properly congealed dripping blood from the stems, and he imagines he can see the white of the bones protruding from where the cut was made. And yes, that was a liver, bloody, raw and obviously ripped from the body of a still-living human. And just to carry around that flesh in your pocket... the young warrior feels like he's about to gag, but if he threw up he couldn't be sure they wouldn't use it as sauce or something.
"Fucking dogs..." The hybrid snarls, a white aura subconsciously flaring up about his person. Oguma had pushed his buttons, all right.
When a human martial artist undergoes enough of an adrenaline surge, they gain a temporary power boost - and for a earthling with saiyan genetics, that boost is further amplified. So, then, perhaps Oguma had bitten off more than he could chew, excuse the pun, in aggravating the young Callahan. Or maybe, just maybe, it had been his plan all along, so that the two could have had a more even fight. Perhaps he had known that, when desperate or angry, humans could access a higher state of power.
But, still, he could not have predicted the following.
The hidden Hiruen-son slams both his arms out in front of his body, arms tensing, veins straining as a royal golden energy begins to build up in between a diamond-shape formed by his fingers, digits joined in an angry formation with the intent of channeling his Kikoho blast. He was channeling energy through his arms, and from a focal point in his chest, and his fingers were literally throbbing with a mixture of combat and life energy. And with that he begins to shout;
"You've got everything about me wrong so far today, Oguma. I'm not stupid, or else you would have killed me with one thrust of your ridiculous spear. I'm not a human, not really - I have the blood of a warrior race flowing through my veins, a warrior race who wouldn't hesitate to blast you into dust in a heartbeat. And we push our physical forms to our limits to combat evil monsters like YOU!" He screams, his aura flaring up to it's maximum, fully tapping into his adrenaline anger and sitting at a comfortable thirteen-thousand battle power. The contained diamond of chi in his fingers was sitting at an even higher level.
"You've been wrong about me this whole time, Oguma, so I'll give you one last chance - get the hell out of here, RIGHT NOW, or else I'll blast you and your hag of a sister into demon dust...or will you underestimate me again?" He spits, a large part of him wondering why he was even offering to spare these guys. But the reality was simple.
He didn't want to become like them. Kikoho - 1 Charge - 17640 PL.

At this point both demons were in shock from Akio's display of power, words, and the technique he was charging. He was not going to give up on this fight now and Oguma knew now he should not either. He quickly faced his opponent and told his sister, "You better hurry up and transform. This guy is going to shoo to kill."
Oguma was evil towards others, but towards his family he loved them beyond question. He did not want his sister getting injured. She seemed to take his words seriously, especially after Akio's comment about being a hag, and a purple aura rippled around her. As it did her hair spiked up in the back and turned gray, her white skin sprouted tan and white fur covered with white cloud tattoos and crows, and her eyes became green. Another notable feature of her body though was strange furry ears sprouting out of the back of her head that curled back to match the ridges of her spiky hair.
Knowing his sister was tapping into her own Psychobreak or even a deeper power Oguma now focused solely on attacking the human warrior before him. He pulled his spear out again, charged him once more while pulling back both his arms, and aimed the focus of his attention at the diamond shaped energy beam forming in his opponent's hands. Before he could fire it Oguma would try to take the opportunity to try to stab at the collected energy before he could fire it. He closed the distance between them, which seemed less than ten feet to him, with his weapon surrounded in a vile black ki. This fang would pierce the man before him and kill him if it was the last thing he did.
It was as he ran towards him that he realized though his opponent was in mid-air, so he changed his course and jumped up into the air pointing his spear upwards, to stab Akio and the attack he held in his hands from below. Demons were not very intelligent beings usually and that said they tended to throw their power just like Oguma was doing. Such tactics, if you could call them that, tended to kill everything in sight.

Damn! Could the demon not tell he was serious, that he would launch the attack and vaporise both of them into dust, end their reign of tyranny across Earth's wastelands and back alleys for the good of the world? His attack could do it in one fell swoop, decimating a wide range of the landscape below and taking both demons with it. He couldn't sense it, but it appeared that she certainly could... and surely he was smart enough to hear the deadliness to his normally calm voice? He could end this blight right now...
But, as the demon plunged towards him, something stopped him from releasing the destruction pent up in his glowing golden fingers. Perhaps it was pity, for this Oguma was a semblance of himself, travelling the wastes with only his sister for company. Yes, they ate fingers, killed innocents... by all rights, the saiyan half-royal would be doing the world a favour by purging them in a righteous golden blaze of heat and passion, as was a mere push away.
But... it was possible they could both change. Perhaps they had both been human once, and could be again.
Hissing, Callahan forces the life energy back into his energy with a grunt, his aura bursting up with a temporary surge of power. He focuses the remaining energy in his fingers into something else entirely, the Kikoho formation relaxing in his fingers. He instead shifts them up to his face, all the while as Oguma plunges towards him...
He snaps his eyes shut, jaw tensed as he screams - "Solar Flare!!"
A flash of white light would devour the demons' world, chi-induced super brightness pulsing only momentarily from Callahan's fingers, but it would be enough. The demon would still be plunging towards him, but Akio would lean backwards, the spear brushing harmlessly through the air past his ear and leaving Oguma open to a sweltering barrage of heavy punches, one, two, three to the chest. Oguma could well have dodged them in his Psycho-break form, but now weaker than Callahan, and blinded... it was highly likely the hits would reach their mark.
The half-saiyan would then aim a final blow, a jack-hammer hit to the head that he intended to send the demon crashing down to Earth, back into his sister whom may also be blinded.
Akio continues to drift in the air, huffing, misty exhalations every second bursting from his lips in the cold draught of the canyon. "Your luck's running out, Oguma!" He'd roar. Akio was beginning to tire, his adrenaline beginning to run low, but he still had it in him to finish the demon should he get back up and try once more to best the master warrior.

Oguma was just about ready to finish his foe off with a spear thrust directly into Akio's body. Unfortunately, the world's karma had a way of getting in the way of his victory. A bright light flashed in front of Oguma's eyes and the next thing he knew someone was punching and hitting him with a barrage of attacks directly in his chest. He could not see who though cause the light had made him loose all sense of vision. Suddenly, a heavy blow hit him in the head and his world was sent spinning as he plummeted to the ground.
When he hit the ground a crater formed and he heard the footsteps of his sister dashing over to him, "Dear Kami, look into my eyes brother!" She forcefully turned his head as Akio shouted that Oguma's luck had run out and Oguma desperately wanted to see his sister. He was sure in this fight that Akio would not be kind like Azurai and finish him off with another attack. Although, he heard no sounds of charging around him. Mei grabbed his cheeks and shook his head around trying to see if he could see her, but all she found was him staring emptily had at.
"I-I cannot see you Mei, and I don't know why you're moving my head around, but please stop." Oguma sputtered.
Mei looked up into the sky at Akio and grit her teeth. "You damn bastard!" she screamed. She so wanted to kill him yet her desire to save Oguma first beckoned to her. She lifted him up onto her shoulders and like a good sister carefully powered up all the ki into her body and took off. No matter how much power Akio had she was sure he could not keep up with her because she was pushing her all into flying off towards Jingle Village far to the north of them. She would dash by clouds, birds, and whatever else got in their way just to make sure Akio would not chase him.
He was a human. Yet she knew that did not mean they did not kill in cold blood. Both Oguma and her were demons and it was very likely he would attack them both if she gave him the chance.

He'd done it.
The young half-saiyan had somehow come out on top against a foe with a far higher battle potential than his own, and all it had taken was a liberal use of the techniques his old master had taught him. In a sense, he was proud of himself, a renewed confidence in his own abilities. In fact, now that the fight was over he felt slightly... hollow, his excitement and adrenaline slipping away to be replaced with a slight depression and boredom. His power returning to it's normal level, he finally catches his breath as the girl demon named him a bastard (and, in a sense, he was - the bastard son of royalty). He sighs as he watches the two slip away into the sky, starting to shiver as his sweat begins to freeze. He had no intention to follow them, and night was falling. They would do no harm to another being this night, at least - Oguma would be too damaged.
Akio still felt hope for the duo. Mei had shown a very human kindness in choosing to help her brother rather than attempt an assault against the Crane warrior. Perhaps it was just a leftover sentiment, a reflex from a past life... or maybe they could both be redeemed. Somehow.
It was always worth a try, redemption, that is.
The half-saiyan begins to lower himself to the ground. It was getting dark, and he had to find a place to settle down for the night. Cheeks beginning to redden from the incoming frost, the saiyan wonders who the two demons truly were, what they were doing on the planet Earth. Perhaps they had been sent down here to learn something, to become good people. Or perhaps they had been sent here to terrorise the world, only for a true hero to rise up and end them. Perhaps Akio had missed the perfect opportunity then and there, but something had felt off.
Whatever their purpose, the half saiyan realised deep down that he had not seen the last of them, not by a long shot. Perhaps he had made a life-long nemesis, or perhaps he had sowed the seeds for a friendship in his own unique way. But whatever their destiny, the Crane and the Dog would meet again.
White bandana billowing in the wind, an exhausted Akio Callahan begins to walk, white bandana billowing amongst the purity of snow. (fin)
