It was a bit of a tense moment as Sei considered his words. Bastion almost regretted getting so wordy, but he stood by what he had said. It was more like his father than he would have expected, that sudden monologue. Apparently, he had gotten more from his creator than he expected. Still, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. If he had prevented another sapling from rotting away due to the idiocies of this universe, he had achieved his goal. Thankfully, it seemed as though the Android had taken his words to heart.
"I would gladly fight side by side with you as well. I hope that you find your travels safe, Sei." He clapped an arm across his chest and bowed, watching the robotic teen rise up and arc into the sky, vanishing from sight. Turning, he began to move back towards the Cathedral, his arms behind his back. It had been an interesting day, that was for sure. He wasn't sure if he would see Sei again, though. There was a list of those Walker had encountered, and never again seen. People that his child was curious to meet, but had apparently vanished. Without the means to find them, perhaps he would never meet some of those who had shaped his father.
"Heh... I suppose I am more like him than I thought." His metaphor had been quite apt, to his estimate. This encounter had brought out a little of his father's attitude towards things. Bowing his head, the tree chuckled lightly. When it rose again, however, his eyes were narrowed. He had meant what he said when he that one had to be prepared to fight anyone and anything to protect their ideals. His Ki Sense was not as strong as his father's, and he did not have his Telepathy, but he was observant, nonetheless. He had felt Reikiko leave Earth, and he had noted that Kaula had not returned. It was beginning to look like the next battle would be arriving far sooner than predicated. Clenching his fist, Bastion stared at the cathedral for a moment.
It was unclear how much his father could see of what was happening on Earth, and he did not want to overestimate his view. Sei had asked about the meaning of Life, but he hadn't asked a question Bastion considered far more important. "What is a life worth?". That was far more difficult to answer, and a question he was concerned he may have to answer soon. If another war came to pass, it would require the strongest fighters the planet had to stop the total domination of the SSE across the Galaxy. If it came to that... he might well have to follow his father's example. Rei had yet to absorb another person, and it seemed as though the BBA and Z-Fighters weren't eager to risk their own lives, despite Walker doing so first. Pragmatism was over-ridden by ego, it seemed.
That, or the concept of death was far too scary to contemplate. Still, the son of Walker was nothing if not pragmatic, and he knew a few things. First, as cold as it was, someone may have to die to get his Father back. Second, he had considered, in the back of his mind, whether he was capable of murdering someone to this end. The image of Sei's face flashed in his mind for a moment, and his footsteps halted. .....
No, he wasn't. Unless the fate of the many depended on someone dying, he would continue working toward the greatest possible good. However, he was not about to eschew the greater good for the sake of his own ego or selfish desire. Thus, it came down to a final question.
If the time came, and nobody else stepped forward, would he sacrifice his own life to ensure that the other Verdant would live. That people like Sei, or Chili, or that fox, Arias, could continue to live without fear of the greedy, dominating powers out there. Could he do such a thing? His eyes closed for a moment, and the answer was clear. "Yes." Moving upwards, he began to fly back to the Cathedral. The clock was ticking, and one way or another, someone would need to do something, or all was lost.
