The Arcosian Empire
The Arcosian Empire is one of the oldest and most well-recognised organisations in the universe. It is an empire spread across thousands of star systems, counting trillions of subjects from a multitude of different species under its banner. Until the Saiyan resurgence, it had no rival.
HISTORY
[NOTE: Most of this knowledge has been forgotten by AE citizens. Only nobles and historians might know some of the intricacies, and in their own, influenced way. This page is NOT an excuse for very specific knowledge of certain characters, or concepts that might give you an advantage.]
The actual beginnings of the Arcosian Empire are a mystery, with the earliest records placing it already in existence over 2000 years ago, under a different guise: the Planet Trade Organisation. This organisation, while governmental in structure, enslaved races (including the Saiyans for a brief time) to do their bidding. Naturally powerful species such as the saiyans were used to conquer habitable planets to sell on auction to the highest bidder. Lesser races were trained as technicians, medics or all-round workers to aid this venture.
Its formation seems to be attributed to a lineage of powerful, capitalistic Arcosians known by the name of Kold, consisting of a charismatic king and his brutally violent children, the strongest of these, Frieza, being remembered to this day as a hero-deity who had a majority of power over the known galaxy at one point. At some point, this family mysteriously disappears from records entirely, and none of them are referenced again. In the years that followed many claims to the dynasty have come and gone, with imposters taking the surname of Kold or Cold, even to this day. It is unclear if any such claimants were ever legitimate descendants of the original ruling family.
For a thousand years more, the fragmented PTO went on trying to emulate the success of its past. For a brief period, the disparate factions were united by a powerful Arcosian known as Reito. However, a final decisive clash with the burgeoning Saiyan Empire ended the trade-based operations, with Reito being destroyed by the saiyan king. The focus of the empire shifted now towards creating an efficient government capable of rivalling the expanding SSE, renaming themselves the Arcosian Empire. While still employing tactics of “recruitment” from its days as a capitalistic organisation, the empire focused on bolstering its own planetary bases and military rather than selling them--additionally, many worlds actively joined the Arcosian Empire over the centuries that followed to save themselves from the relative brutality of the saiyan people, who were, then, bound by the peace treaty to not invade these worlds. Skirmishes between the two galactic empires were rare, and always off-the-book.
Most recently, the Arcosian Empire was lead by the young Wyntre Cold. Under her rule, the Arcosian Empire was moving towards being a government less predicated on violence and race slavery as a means of rule. However, this is arguably how the Saiyan Solar Empire delivered a heavy blow against the AE, shattering it by destroying Wyntre Cold and rendering Arcose uninhabitable.
In the face of this devastating blow, the actual Arcosian race is dwindling, and as such the strongest link between the many AE worlds is fading. Many sectors of the AE are emerging as independent fiefdoms ruled by the remaining Arcosians or rebellious members of other species; while others, without the protection of the military, have been annexed into the SSE.
CULTURE
The Arcosian species, a small population within the empire, are the ruling class due to their innate battle power. While none have the strength reportedly possessed by their Kold predecessors, they still generally subscribe to the survival-of-the-fittest attitude that formed the core PTO mindset over two thousand years ago. It is believed that ancient Arcosians would have had great success as spacefaring warriors due to their ability to survive in a vacuum, which would explain how they spread their influence so far once a powerful leader emerged.
Arcosians are very few in number, despite the size of their empire. On many outer planets, entire generations are born and die without an Arcosian setting foot upon the soil of their world. For many denizens of the empire, their understanding of Arcosians will come entirely from works of fiction and whatever images of them might be found in news broadcasts. However, the Arcosians have strong bonds with several ‘favoured’ races who are far more numerous, and do much of the work of ensuring Arcosian rule reaches every corner of the empire. Chief amongst these races are the humanoid inhabitants of the Brenchian Gemini system, who stand as the most populous of the ‘core races’, a term which refers to species inhabiting the most central regions of the Arcosian Empire - presumably the longest-standing servants of the Arcosian dynasties.
Arcosians themselves held absolute power within the empire, and were generally considered a class of citizenry above all other races. The empire’s society was strongly darwinistic, with violence and even murder as widely-accepted pathways to power. However, the Arcosians themselves were untouchables - for an alien to harm one of their kind was unthinkable, and the Arcosians would bring swift retribution to any foolish enough to attempt it.
However, the Arcosians’ natural power and loyal enforcers are not always enough to maintain order. Many worlds rebel against Arcosian rule, either due to poor governance or perceived mistreatment by their masters. In the past 100 years, not a single day passed where at least one world was not in open rebellion. This constant state of unrest forces the Arcosian military to spread thinly across their territory, opening them up to unified attacks, like that which ruined Arcose.
GOVERNMENT
Arcosians traditionally governed the empire from the heart of the AE, the planet Arcose. However, surprisingly often the planet is "out of commission" (as it is now) and thus power is re-centralised to a different location. Arcosians rule important worlds personally, and appointed alien officials take care of the rest.
Life is cheap in the Arcosian Parliament and many "accidental" deaths occur, as the changelings vie for the top spot, to rule a vast empire that spans half a galaxy.
CURRENTLY, the Arcosian Empire is locked in civil war with itself, as multiple Arcosian warlords have come to the fore to attempt to wrestle complete control over the fractured fiefdoms that was once a unified territory under the rule of Wyntre and her family.
