Yuki woke up as the sun started to rise in the sky. She could feel her body aches from the gravity training she did the day before. Yuki sat up in bed slowly. She knew Yu would probably be training with the twenty times gravity today so she decided she would go on a little adventure. It would give her body some more time to recover as well. Yuki got out of bed and went to go take a hot shower. The cut on her shoulder was already healing and the bruises weren’t as dark as the day before.
As Yuki finished her shower, she dried off and picked out clothes she could wear. Today, Yuki was wearing her skinny jeans with a purple sweater and black boots. Yuki looked in the mirror as she wrapped her purple scarf around her neck. She left her blonde hair down today so it could dry faster.
Yuki told Yu she would be back and left the spaceship. When I get back, I’ll do my twenty times gravity training Yuki thought. At first, Yuki walked along the rocky land not really knowing where she was heading but she soon realized where her legs were taking her.
“She did say I was always welcomed back,” Yuki said as she flew up into the sky and headed to the small town. The wind was a bit chilly as usual but the sky was blue with a few clouds here and there. Yuki remembered the way as she flew through the sky, her wet hair drying faster from the wind blowing it. When the town came into view, Yuki landed on the ground and walked up the stone path. The huge campfire was still going in the middle of the town but it wasn’t as big during the day. There were no children running around this time. They probably were in school or busy training. Yuki wasn’t sure if these brenchians were still connected to the Arcosian Empire or if they had broken apart from it.
As Yuki walked towards Kishi's home, her question seemed to be answered. She saw a fellow Arcosian Empire member walk to a nearby house. He was wearing the official warrior armor that they would train in back home. Hmm they must still be in contact with the home planet Yuki thought. Maybe that’s why the AE wanted to send me here since there were already a few warriors on this planet Yuki continued to think as she walked up to the cabin door. She knocked two times and then waited for an answer. Through the door she heard Kishi’s voice say, “One second.”
Yuki turned around and looked through the little town wondering how many soldiers were staying here. Yuki then heard the cabin door opened and turned back around. Kishi had her hair pulled back into a bun. She too was wearing the AE training outfit. Yuki could feel her mouth drop a few inches in surprise. She didn’t think Kishi was a fighter since her mother wasn’t.
“Aunt Kishi…you’re…” Yuki tried to say in a slow voice. Kishi didn’t say anything as she walked up and gave Yuki a tight hug. As she let go she had a huge smile on her face.
“I’m glad to see you came back for a visit and yes I’m a warrior for the Arcosian Empire. Ever since I was little, just like you and Yu, I’ve been trained to fight. Although as I got older and started a family my job for the empire changed. Now I’m a trainer for other young warriors. After I had my kids, I wanted to be able to watch them grow up so the empire let me change jobs. I think that’s one reason why they were okay with my family moving to this little base on Earth. Since other young brenchians were being born here and needed a skilled trainer to teach them how to fight,” Kishi said as she walked inside her cabin house. Yuki followed her in.
“So I assume my uncle and cousins live here with you or?” Yuki asked wanting to know more about the family. Kishi's smile disappeared from her face. She walked toward a bookshelf by the front door and picked up a picture frame. She handed it to Yuki.
Yuki saw in the picture her Aunt Kishi and a man with his arms wrapped around her. He had red skin with short white hair. He was taller than Kishi. Yuki assumed this was her uncle. The two of them had huge smiles on their faces in the picture.
“My husband, your uncle, a few months ago was reported back to our home planet. They needed him to be a general for some of the troops…I haven’t heard from him in two weeks. I know he’s probably busy with the war but he promised he would call every week but…I’m still keeping my hopes up..” Kishi said as she kept her voice low. Yuki placed the picture back on the bookshelf not really sure what to say.
“I bet he’s okay,” Yuki said trying to cheer her Aunt back up. “What about your children?” Yuki asked trying to change the subject.
Kishi seemed to snap out of it. She grabbed another picture frame with a boy and a girl in the photo. The boy looked like his father with red skin and white hair. He looked much older than the girl by a few years. The girl looked more like Kishi with blue skin and blonde hair. Her hair was cut short though with bangs. She looked to be around Yuki’s age.
“My son Yoru (Night), he’s a spy for the Arcosian Empire. So he’s always sent out on missions for them. Right now he’s on some planet doing a mission but he comes home after every mission for a while before being sent out again. As for my daughter Hikari (light), she asked the Empire if she could help me train other brenchian. She was able to prove herself to be skillful enough to help train the younger ones who are just starting out,” Kishi said as she put the picture frame back down on the shelf.
Kishi then looked at the clock. “Oh dear, I have to get to work. Would you like to come along, Yuki? Don’t worry, I won’t make you do work.” Kishi said as she grabbed Yuki’s arm and led her out the door not waiting for Yuki’s response.
“Sure,” Yuki said as Kishi let go of Yuki’s arm. The two of them walked along the stone path. As they walked, people greeted Kishi with a “Good Morning” or a small wave. The stone path led out of the small down. A few trees were on either side of the path. On the right of them Yuki could see a small farm. The path started to lead up a steep hill. Yuki didn’t know what to expect. Once they reached the top, Yuki stopped to take it all in. In front of her, the hill went down. A huge field was beyond them but the field was barracked in by the hill that seemed to go around. The only way to reach this field was to walk up the steep hill. Tall trees were along the top of the hill giving the field some privacy.
“Wow,” Yuki said out loud. In the field, she could see all ages of Brenchian training. It reminded her of back home when she used to train with the others. “Do…do they all live in this small town?” Yuki asked as she looked over at Kishi. There’s no way Yuki thought.
“No, they don’t a lot of them live at other bases. As long as we don’t cause harm to the Earth, we are allowed to live and train here. There are people on Earth who disagree about our planet possibly being destroyed. Ask any human how they would feel if Earth was threaten of being destroyed one day and they would give you the same answer,” Kishi said as she started to walk down the steep hill towards the field. Yuki followed her down.
“Plenty of people don’t want us to live here either though so it’s a win/lose situation,” Kishi said as they both reached the bottom of the hill. Yuki grabbed Kishi arm so she would look at her.
“Why aren’t they on our home planet fighting the evasion? It looks like we have enough…” Yuki started to say but Kishi interrupted her as she raised her hand to Yuki.
“We don’t have enough. These warriors aren’t strong enough either. Sure, if we had a few strong ones we might stand a chance but most of them are weak. A lot of them didn’t get training when they were little so they struggle more now since there older. My job is to teach them as best as I can. But see there are even some brenchian parents here that don’t want their little ones being taught to fight at a young age. I don’t have the ranks to tell them what to do so I let it go,” Kishi said but Yuki could tell that it was most likely because Kishi had a big heart. If she really wanted too she could probably force the parents to let their children train but she wasn’t that type of person.
Yuki knew that was a weakness and if the AE found out, Kishi could get in trouble but Yuki just brushed it off. She watched as Kishi walked over to a group of teenage Brenchian. They all smiled at Kishi as she came over. Yuki sat down at a bench and just watched as Kishi told the group what training they would be doing. The teenagers seemed to not like what Kishi had planned for them. Kishi clapped her hands three times and the teenagers got in two lines. They then began there warm-up as they started to run while they stayed in formation.
“Warm-ups were always fun,” Yuki said out loud not really talking to anyone. Yuki noticed the girl from the picture, Hikari, as she approached Kishi, her mom. The two seem to have a small talk and then Kishi looked over at Yuki as if she were mentioning her. Yuki quickly looked another direction. She didn’t want them to think she was staring even though that’s what she was doing. A few seconds later, Yuki looked up to see Hikari was walking towards her with a smile on.
“Hello Yuki, it’s great to finally meet you. My mom’s told me stories about you and your brother. When she found out about the Planet Pital victory she was so proud to tell me what had happened,” Hikari said as she sat down next to Yuki. Hikari wore a black jumpsuit with AE armor over it. She had a clipboard in her hand that had the training schedules down for the day.
“It’s nice to meet you too; I never knew we had bases on planet Earth. I only ever heard of other planets,” Yuki said as she watched two brenchian practice their physical combat skills. Yuki felt her muscles itch to join the fight but then she remembered she was trying to take it easy today with her body. Hikari’s name was called by another brenchian so she excused herself and ran over to help out. Yu would be so surprised to see this Yuki thought as she continued to watch.
Kishi then whistled loudly to catch Yuki’s attention. She then motioned for her to come over. Yuki got up and decided to jog over to Kishi. The field was covered with a thick layer of grass. Yuki was surprised since most of this land was covered in rocks. As Yuki approached Kishi, she wasn’t sure what was going to happen.
“I spoke to your father once after my family had moved to Earth. He wanted to make sure we were all okay. He asked me for a favor and I agreed to it. He knew that I would be the only one who could teach it to you since it’s my signature technique. He thought you would be able to use it to your ability. I told him, it wouldn’t be easy to learn though,” Kishi went on rambling as Yuki got excited.
“What technique? I want to see,” Yuki said as she felt like a little kid wanting to see.
Kishi nodded her head. She took a few steps from Yuki. Kishi seemed to be in concentration, within a few seconds her right arm seemed to be engulfed in lava. Yuki watched in aww as the lava formed a chain wrapped around her arm and grew out from her hand. Yuki could just see spikes along the chain as well. Kishi then threw the chain towards a nearby tree, the lava chain wrapped around the tree. The tree suddenly burst into flames and Kishi gave a hard tug breaking the tree in half where the chain was wrapped around. Yuki's mouth was wide open as she looked back at Kishi. Her left arm also formed the lava chain with spikes. Kishi had full control of them as she swung them around but not hitting anyone close by. She then seemed to release the technique letting the chains disappear.
“So what do you think?” Kishi asked as she held in a laugh at Yuki’s face expression.
“That…was…AWESOME!” Yuki said as she jumped up into the air. “I need to learn that!” She continued to say.
Kishi gave a small laugh. “I make it look easy but that is years and years of training, but I can teach you the basic which will still be a pretty good technique. Once you learn it, you can train with it and build your skill up when using it,” Kishi said as she looked out to make sure her class was still running around the field.
“Can Hikari do that too?” Yuki asked curiously, Kishi seemed to give a small frown at Yuki’s question.
“No, she has her own style when it comes to combat. Hikari is more of a blade type user but she’s good at it,” Kishi said as her frown went away. Kishi then had to get back to work as her group finished their laps. Yuki replayed the scene that just happened over in her head. If I can learn that it could useful in combat Yuki thought.
For the next few hours, Yuki just stood by the side lines watching brenchians train. She wished her training had been this easy. Back on the home planet, being trained by her dad and high ranked AE members wasn’t easy but that’s probably the reason why Yu and Yuki are as strong as they are today. Yuki knew she still had much to learn though. Yuki had flew up and found a sturdy tree branch. She sat on it with her back against the trunk and enjoyed the view. One of her legs swung freely while the other leg laid along the branch. The sun was starting to go down as the blue sky turned orange and pinkish.
In the distance, Yuki heard her name being called. She flew off from the tree to where Kishi was calling her. The training had finished for the day. Yuki walked along back with Kishi and Hikari to their cabin home. Yuki noticed the campfire had grown larger since it was nighttime again. As Yuki followed them into the house she dragged her feet to one of the couches and laid down. Her body still feeling the ache from the gravity training she had went through yesterday.
Yuki didn’t think she would be able to make it back to the spaceship as she yawned. Kishi came into the room with a blanket and covered Yuki with it.
“You can spend the night here. I’m off tomorrow so first thing, I’ll show you how to use my technique and then you can head back to Yu to let him know you’re okay,” Kishi said. Yuki nodded her head. Kishi then said good night as she turned off the light in the room. Yuki closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
“Good Morning, I had a feeling you drank coffee,” Kishi said as she picked up the folded blanket and went to go put it in the storage closet. Yuki took another sip of her coffee and then followed Kishi.
“I’m ready to train,” Yuki said. Kishi nodded her head. She then motioned Yuki to follow her to the kitchen. The kitchen had a door leading to the backyard of the house. Both of them went through the door and then Kishi stopped and turned around to face Yuki.
The sun was just starting to rise into the sky. Yuki stood straight up waiting for her first lesson. “Yuki, I can only show you the first step. The rest is something you’ll have to train yourself. Only you can control your ki to be able to do this technique. It takes patients and a little time to get the hang of it,” Kishi said as she took a few steps back. Yuki watched as Kishi's arms once again began engulfed in what looked like lava slowly the lava turned into molten rock chains that wrapped around her arms and started to get longer; as the chains grew the tiny spikes appeared along them.
Kishi then released her ki letting the lava chains disappear. “You have to concentrate your ki into your arms. You’re already capable off doing the magma ball which means you’re used to working with the fire element. Just close your eyes and imagine your ki turning into lava. From there watch the lava turn into molten rock chains and the rest will happen on its own. I just need to see if you’re able to do the beginning steps and then I’ll know if you’re able to use this technique,” Kishi said as she pulled up a chair and sat down. “Now begin,” Kishi said.
Yuki was ready to try. She looked at her hands and then placed her arms straight down along her sides. She closed her eyes. Yuki began concentrating on her arms. She went through each muscle from her shoulders all the way down to her fingertips. Next, Yuki started to concentrate all her Ki into both of her arms. She started to see her Ki in her mind turning into lava covering her arms. Outside of Yuki’s concentrating she heard Kishi gasp. Yuki suddenly opened her eyes to see Kishi mouth hung a few inches open. What? Yuki thought.
Yuki then looked down at her arms and realized why Kishi had gasped. Flames seemed to engulf Yuki’s arms with a lava form mixed in with them. The lava didn’t hurt Yuki because it was her own ki. Yuki then held her hand up a little trying to form a chain. She could feel sweat starting to drip from her forehead. Yuki couldn’t hold her ki anymore and had to release it. The lava and flames quickly vanished. I failed Yuki thought as she looked down at her feet.
“Yuki you got the first step down. You were able to learn the first step faster than I was at your age,” Kishi said as she walked over to Yuki. This made Yuki look up at Kishi and give a small smile. “Now, all you have to do is keep training and you’ll be able to form those chains. Next time trying using just one hand, it would be much easier,” Kishi said as Yuki gave her a hug.
“Thank-you,” Yuki said as she let go of Kishi. “I should probably head back to Yu before he gets worried,” Yuki continued to say. Kishi nodded her head as Yuki waved and took off into the sky.

Yuki woke up to the smell of coffee. As she opened her eyes, in front of her was a mug sitting on the table. Yuki smiled as she slowly sat up and yawned. She grabbed the mug and held it with both of her hands as she took a sip. The warm coffee helped Yuki get a burst of energy. She placed the mug back on the table and folded up the blanket.
