Freezing winds gust across the icy landscape of the Glacial Belt, shifting snow and ice; occasionally creating small spirals of wind and snow. A large boulder, covered in thick ice, moves a fraction of an inch to the left; and then grinds forward another inch. The sounds of cracking ice are drowned out by the howling winds as the boulder continues shifting left and right. Finally, the boulder dislodges from its resting place, crashing down the side of a short cliff, shattering ice and crushing snowbanks below, and reveals a large hole.
Squinting against the harsh winds and snow, Taiga steps out of the tunnel. He sees a bright light far off in the distance, and hears the muffled boom of an explosion soon afterwards. Who was winning? His people, or the Saiyans? It was hard to say for sure. If the Saiyans thought that this world would be easy to conquer, they'd find themselves quickly corrected. The Arcosian looks back into the tunnel for a long moment, wondering if the Saiyan would be appearing. To his pleasure, the warrior did not. Taiga turns away from the tunnel once more; and in the corner of his vision, the Arcosian sees a flash above him.
Taiga leaps away from the spot he was standing, and a Ki ball collides with the ice and rock, exploding and throwing ice and other debris in every direction. He hears laughter, and looks up; his eyes narrow angrily at the site of what looks like... ten Saiyans, by his count. So much for his escape.
"Hahaaa! Looky here, Pambukin! We've found ourselves a straggler!" laughs a Saiyan with a long scar extending from his right brow to left cheek.
"Here I thought we were wasting our time hunting for these scumbags out here in the frozen wastes, guess I was wrong." replies the fat Saiyan called Pambukin. His left eye is closed, looking like it had been destroyed by a burn years ago, and three jagged scars run parallel across the right side of his bald head. "Anyone else wondering what these bastards taste like?"
The comment prompts a raucous round of laughter from his comrades. Taiga wordlessly stares up at them, gauging them. With Saiyans, the stronger they are, the prouder they are; tending to prefer to fight alone, while the weaker ones band together to deal with stronger foes. This was likely one of those cases. Taiga clenches his hands into fists, and begins focusing his power. His tail whips out, smashing through a frozen stalagmite. This gesture does nothing to the Saiyans' apparent confidence.
"What're we waiting for?!" yells out a tall, brutish-looking Saiyan. "Let's get 'em!"
With a round of agreement, the Saiyans fly at Taiga, who drops into a fighting stance; spreading his feet apart and bending at the knees, and bringing his left forearm forward vertically and pulling his right arm back horizontally. Taiga's aura flares, and he vanishes from view, reappearing over the brutish-looking Saiyan. The Saiyan's scouter beeps in warning, but the Saiyan only has enough time to look back before Taiga clasps his hands together and rams them down violently against the nape of the Saiyan's neck. An audible CRACK can be heard, and the Saiyan crashes into the snow and ice below. His comrades stare for a moment, and then glare furiously at Taiga, who returns to his fighting stance.
The Saiyans roar in anger, coming at the Arcosian from all directions. Taiga blocks a kick with his left forearm, and catches the wrist of another Saiyan with his right hand. He pushes the kicking Saiyan away, and pulls the punching Saiyan into a hard knee to the stomach before ramming his elbow down on the back of the Saiyan's head. A Saiyan attacks him from behind, but the Arcosian simply bats her away with his tail. He ducks under the kick of Pambukin, and drives his hand straight through the obese Saiyan's torso. His hand breaks through the Saiyan's back, breaking off pieces of armor and spurting blood. Pambukin hacks up blood, staring down at Taiga, who smiles and pulls his arm out of the Saiyan's chest before obliterating it with a Ki blast.
Charred chunks of remains fall to the ground below, and the other Saiyans look on, shock and fury mixing in their expressions.
"K-KILL THIS BASTAAAARD!!" the Saiyan with the scar across his brow and cheek roars.
Taiga changes tactics, and goes on the offensive; rocketing at the nearest Saiyan, and drives his right fist into the Saiyan's jaw, snapping her neck like a twig, and blasting another nearby Saiyan in the face with a Ki ball, killing him instantly. The Saiyans attack, but have great difficulty keeping up with Taiga, who either dodges or counters their assaults. Four Saiyans surround Taiga and charge, but the Arcosian leans backwards, slamming the back of his head into the nose of one Saiyan, whips the Saiyan in front of him upside the chin with his tail, and fires two narrow, focused beams of Ki through the chest and stomach of the two Saiyans to his left and right. He immediately spins around and brings his left knee up hard into the gut of the Saiyan behind him, and nails the stunned Saiyan with both a left and right hook before reducing the invader to not but ash with a Ki wave.
The last of the four recovers and tried to charge, but Taiga's tail wraps around the Saiyan's neck. As the Saiyan struggles to breath and break free, Taiga turns to the other remaining two Saiyans, and squeezes his tail around his captive's neck until he hears it break. His tail unfurls, allowing the Saiyan's body to fall into the snow below with a dull thud. The last two Saiyans glare at Taiga. Suddenly, the Saiyan with the scar over his brow and cheek presses a button on his scouter.
"Th-this is Cargot!! We need back-Agh!!" the Saiyan cries out as a small, narrow Ki beam hits and destroys his scouter. Taiga lowers his hand, glowering at the Saiyans. The Saiyan next to Cargot shudders and backs up a bit in the air.
"Cargot, we can't beat this guy! He killed Pambukin and the others!" the Saiyan shivers.
Cargot glances back at his comrade and grunts. "You wanna be a coward, you go ahead and run. A real warrior fights until the end!"
Cargot glares at Taiga, gritting his teeth, and drops into his fighting stance. Following his commander, the other Saiyan readies himself. Taiga simply glares at them, seeing Cargot's determination. The Saiyans fly at Taiga, reaching him in a fraction of a second. Cargot spins and kicks at Taiga's head, who raises his right arm to block the kick with his forearm. The other Saiyan throws a hard left punch at Taiga, but the Arcosian proves to be too fast for him, blocking the punch with his left palm. He retaliates by slamming the bottom of his left foot into the weaker Saiyan's face, breaking its nose and knocking it back.
Cargot retracts his leg, and throws a barrage of punches and kicks at his hated enemy, but alone, he is no match. Taiga's aura suddenly flares, knocking the Saiyan away with sheer pressure. The Saiyan recovers quickly, but Taiga is on him in an instant. The Arcosian appears directly in front of Cargot with his hand in front of the Saiyan's chest, fingers splayed wide. Cargot's eyes widen as Taiga's hand starts to glow with Ki. Suddenly, a bright flash erupts behind Taiga, and a stream of Ki sears across the Arcosian's exposed back, breaking Taiga's concentration. Taking advantage, Cargot brings both hands up, and fires a wide blast of ki at Taiga. The blast washes over Taiga, making him disappear in the flash.
"Yeah! You got 'im, Cargot!" the other Saiyan cheers triumphantly as the Ki wave dissipates. But both Saiyans are shocked to see the Arcosian remaining in place, his arms up forming an X over his face. Taiga lowers his arms, and turns his head slightly, looking back at the other Saiyan, who flinches fearfully. Cargot lurches forward to attack Taiga, but the Arcosian's right knee shoots up, crashing into the Saiyan's chin, making him flip backwards through the air. Taiga then vanishes and appears high above the other Saiyan; he drops down fast, and slams the back of his right foot onto the top of the Saiyan's head, causing the hapless ape to fall and slam into the ice below. A ball of crimson Ki forms in Taiga's right hand, and he fires it down at the injured Saiyan, who barely has enough time to yell in fear before the ball hits and erupts, enveloping the Saiyan in a bright flash. Only a wide, smoking crater remains in it's place.
Cargot roars ferociously as he charges at Taiga, who leers sideways at Cargot. He catches the Saiyan's wrist, and twists it back.
"Pathetic. Compared to the last Saiyan I fought before you, the lot of you are weaklings." Taiga growls at Cargot, twisting the Saiyan's wrist more, feeling the bone starting to bend from the stress. "...Your peoples' rule of Arcose will not last... Saiyan."
Taiga raises his free hand, placing it against Cargot's breastplate, and smirks. Cargot disappears in a crimson flash of Ki, leaving only tiny charred bits to fall to the ground. Taiga looks around at the dead Saiyans who had not been obliterated disdainfully, wondering how many of them could have been allies before all this. He shakes off the thought, and shifts his attention back to the distant explosions. He was lucky; he knows it to be the case. The Saiyans came with a massive force, and the Arcosian race was still but a handful in comparison to the Saiyan numbers across the universe. Arcose may fall this day, but the Arcosian Empire would not remain defeated. They would rise again, more powerful than ever, and retake everything they lost. And then the Saiyans would pay dearly.
This battle would likely have appeared on the Saiyans' scouters, so he needed to move quickly. Taiga reverts back to his suppressed form, and flies fast and low across the frozen landscape. After fifteen or so minutes, the Arcosian finds his Spacepod. The beaten old thing hadn't been used since his last mission years ago, but at least it is still functional; though it may only have one more use left in it. He finds his control, and activates the pod. The door hisses as it opens to admit its owner, and Taiga steps inside and sits down. He seals the door shut, and inputs new coordinates for Aoi Brenchia. He couldn't be the only one planning a retreat; he will regroup with whoever he can, and then come up with what to do next afterwards.
Finished with preflight preparations, the pod rises from its platform, and rockets skyward. It breaks atmosphere in moments, and vanishes into the blackness of space. Taiga's eyes narrow as he fights back certain emotions. It is his home, and one day, he would return to take it back.
