Navigating the island was a short task. After he landed and met with some Blue Banner staffers running organization and logistics, he removed his hat and coat and all pretense and simply shot off for the tower and the gathering platform on the other side of the island. Some of those in the mulling crowd let out surprised exclamations.
Flying through the sky let his systems unwind after such a long and cramped boat ride. Vi-Poi wasn’t taken by claustrophobia or travel weariness like an ordinary human was, but the small confines of a leaky junk are not always the most analytically stimulating places to be. He rocketed through the air now, letting his blue kiai surround him, the low and fluffy white clouds pulled by the spirit energy he was harnessing and trailing him like an animated tailwind.
As he neared the improbably tall tower, glittering like a bronze lance rising from the waters, he found the burnished silver starting platform near its base. A narrow bridge connected the platform to the island, and a landing area for air buggies and hovercars was tucked in one corner. He landed at the area designated for Team 3 by a small sign, his kiai winking out with a low electric thrum. Peering about with bright blue eyes, he immediately found Reikiko and gave a playful wink. It had been a while since he had seen his dear friend.
She didn’t look much changed from when he last saw her, and that reassured him. Perhaps her goddess complex wasn’t so bad after all. He idly wondered what she would make of his upgrade, the Tuffle Reactor that had replaced his old engine.
He saw many faces in the gathering crowd, some he recognized, and some he did not.
When the Team 3 Roster flickered before his vision, his eyebrows shot up.
He knew both of his assigned teammates from encounters in the Fukurou Forest, and both made him nervous in different ways. Nai-Ran was a charming rose-haired Ryashi who he’d helped adjust to a wood-witch’s curse, and the other was Zucceta, a clever and violent Saiya-jin who had destroyed Red Ribbon’s Global Dragon Radar. He’d also heard she’d been causing trouble over the Blutz-bans campaign, lately.
He did not see the warrioress Zucceta yet, but his gaze did fall on the elfin-faced Nai-Ran, who was presently slinking her large white-and-red tail to push her body across the bridge. Vi-Poi smiled and raised a hand in greeting, waving her over.
She had been a fine diplomat during their meeting in the Forest. She could operate in a similar capacity with their team. And Zucceta no doubt had a competitive spirit.

Nai-Ran cautiously crossed the small bridge that led to Team Three’s designated starting area, a nervous look plastered on her face. Signing up for the games had been easier than she had though. It was nothing more than putting her name down on a sheet of paper. However, after seeing the first challenge, she was already having second thoughts about joining in. Being stared at was now the least of her concerns. Ice cold water... Of all things to put into a game, why did cold water have to be one of them? Those were two words that the young woman disliked enough on their own! Putting them together just made them that much worse. Maybe things wouldn’t be so bad if she could convince her teammates to let her take one of the Gunner positions. There was no way she would make it very far as a Climber.
At the very least Nai-Ran could take a little solace in the fact that she was already acquainted with one of her team mates. What were the odds of that happening? Then again, there were familiar faces that appeared on some of the other teams, so perhaps the world was smaller than she initially thought. The young woman had met Vi-Poi once before in Fukurou Forest. It hadn’t been the best circumstances to meet under, given that at the time she had been unable to move very well on her own after a rather unpleasant run in with witch, but he had been quite the gentleman. Zucceta, on the other hand, was someone completely new to her.
Upon sliding onto her team’s platform, Nai-Ran took a deep breath and replaced the nervous look on her face with one of cheerfulness. She would be fine. All she had to do was push as hard as she could to be one of her team’s Gunners and hope that the next challenge was something a little more manageable for someone of her species. While the balloons would still be uncomfortably cold to the touch, throwing them would be a lot more bearable than being pelted with them. ”Good afternoon, Vi-Poi. You seem to be doing well,” she greeted her team mate while the two of them awaited Zucceta’s arrival.

Zucceta yawns and stretches, arms extending from beneath her duvet. The day of the 'Reikiko Games' had dawned, and she felt a small excitement welling in her chest. When she'd heard about the games through the broadcast on her scouter she'd at first decided against joining it, as a waste of time in her busy training schedule. She should be using it to train, and to eventually get to the point where she could defeat those who stood against her as the epitome of strength. But, then, she'd quickly reconsidered.
There might be others attending who she had a... grudge with. The tailed human known as Toma, for instance. If, during the games, she could quietly destroy this individual, then all would be worthwhile. On top of that, she could scout out the other contestants participating in the games, potential allies, potential threats, and just more milestones on her path to power. What really made it rich was the sponsorship by the Blue Banner Army. If she, the terrorist, the daemon threat to the populace of Earth, were to be in the winning team, then what did that suggest at the BBA dominance on this planet, let alone in some silly olympic?
And, beyond that, she was just intensely competitive, and participating in an event filled with people on a comparable level excited her to the core of her being. Beyond her deep-rooted societal evil, beyond her aggressive political and philosophical attitudes, she was simply a competitive personality striving to be the best.
She quickly showers, shadow-boxing as the water splashes down her lightly tanned skin, washing her body and hair, and then drying all with a blast of her aura once she steps out of the cubicle in her room. She grabs her oldest set of armor, the one with the most battle scars adorning its side. By her bedside table was a set of shades she had picked up in the process of destroying a store in a fringe town; the Blutz Ban's Vi-Poi had so deliberately set up to limit her species' transformative capabilities. She tuts, before sliding them over her eyes; they were so easy to take off, after all, and nobody would expect the effects of a full moon, besides. She wondered if everyone just thought she was making a statement. With that, she sets out into the air with a blast of chi, hurtling from her location in the desert, toward the southern plateaus.
The serpent uncoils.
The tower was certainly impressive, but for someone of Reikiko's aptitude it would have been pretty easy to construct. Zucceta pouts her lips slightly. "It would make nice digs, a palace extending to the skies, where you could watch the world turn beneath your gaze. My world." She chuckles lightly, glancing around the island.
She recognised a number of the participants. Chronologically, she recognised Koramund, though his form was covered in some weird armour. She had yet to hear of his demise at the hands of Athren, and honestly, even if she did hear of it she would have probably believed that the slimy bio-mutant would have cheated death. He was sneaky like that. She makes a mental note of him; she couldn't wait to end his miserable existence personally. She had spared him once, to see how great he might become; no more waiting. There were a few other familiar faces in the crowd, but none who had really stood out to her thus far.
She didn't have much time to take in the rest of her competitors before Reikiko began to speak. She frowns, scratching her chin. Something was oddly familiar about the girl. Hadn't she met someone who looked and felt a little like her chi recently? She purses her lips. It didn't matter. Zucceta was just happy to take part in these games, and an instinctual level. For a few hours, she could forget her agenda and just compete.
When her team flashes on the screen, she can't suppress loud laughter. She didn't know who this Nai-Ran was, but she knew all-too-well Vi-Poi, the leader of her hated Blue Banner Army. Oh, how delightfully her day was going!~
She rubs the side of her Blutz Bans, before glancing around and spotting her team mate, and presumably the other one, too; a 'pretty' woman with the hind of a snake. She basically skips over to them, grinning. "Good morning to you lovely folks!" She taps the side of her Blutz Bans when she nods to Vi-Poi, coyly, and offers the Ryashi a lick of her lips.
She turns around and points at the tower. "I'mma climb it. You cover me. That's about all the planning we need."

Vi-Poi greeted the Ryashi woman, “I’ve been very well.” He said, clasping Nai-Ran’s hand. “Though my motorbike has been in the shop for months.” He said teasingly, his social algorithms attempting a joke. He wondered what passed as good humor on Appodora. Most sentient species seemed to enjoy provoking laughter through amusement. “What have you been up to?”
It wasn’t long before their third teammate arrived with lunging leaps. There was no mistaking it, this was the very same Zucceta he’d met in the Fukurou Forest. Her energy signature had grown substantially larger. Vi-Poi idly wondered if she too could ascend into the Super Saiya-jin metamorphosis. Not that it would matter greatly. With his Tuffle Core, he could destroy those fighters in a matter of moments, should it come to it.
She was wearing a pair of the bulky black moonglasses in what his social algorithms diagnosed as an ironic fashion, and tapped them playfully as she greeted Vi-Poi. The blue-haired android smiled slowly and raised a hand in cautious greeting. The last time he’d seen the Saiya-jin warrioress she’d been channeling enough ki to blow a mountain into low Earth orbit. She was a chaotic individual, one with a sharp sense of complex personal honor and obligations towards it, he guessed. His time on Planet Vegeta had given him some insights into Imperial Saiya-jin cultural bias.
“How have you been, Zucceta? I see you have picked up a pair of Blutz Bans. Let me see…” He accessed Blue Banner databanks and tuned up his ki emitter, projecting the fuzzy three dimensional image of Zucceta’s Pride Point count. It read zero. Vi-Poi raised his eyebrows in mock surprise, though the number was what he expected it to be. She’d certainly not bought these. “Allow me to fix that for you.” He said in a light-hearted tone. The bubbled text climbed from 0 to 5. “Pride Points added.” He announced with a wink before the number fizzled into nothingness.
If she was going to flaunt, he would do so right back. Perhaps she’d develop a certain level of respect for that type of behavior. Saiya-jin were a highly competitive species. They would not respect passivity and permissiveness. If things became too volatile between them, Nai-Ran could prove a stabilizing conduit with her diplomatic and sensible personality.
“I agree, you should climb.” He said, taking his gunner position with Nai-Ran.
Vi-Poi took his salvo of chilly water balloons as the other teams assembled, and the climbers readied themselves at the starting line. This amount of ammunition would be enough to cover the field. He briefly considered engaging his Lock-On, but felt that would be dishonest. His potent computational abilities should be more than enough to calculate water balloons moving at nonrelativistic speeds.
As the race preparations began Vi-Poi grinned over at Nai-Ran. “How would you like to go about it, snake lady?” He asked. “I think we shouldn’t shoot only the lead climbers – that would be a mistake, as there is no way to assess which climber would persist in the long race. Instead, we could deliver an equal distribution of water balloons to each climber, while giving attack priority to those climbers who exhibited constant rates, meaning they will be pacing themselves intentionally and be a long term threat.”
He wondered if the Saiya-jin wound reflex he'd heard of would translate to water balloon impacts. He hoped so. Zucceta was fierce, and if she was angry, doubly.

”Then I suppose it’s a good thing that I won’t be needing it today,” Nai-Ran lightly chuckled in return. Still sitting on her scaled coils, the young woman brought tip of her tail around to swat away an imaginary insect a few inches in front of her face. Thankfully she had managed to avoid encountering any more eccentric, old, forest-dwelling women. While she wasn’t quite as incompetent when it came to maneuvering on legs as had been before she had first encountered Vi-Poi, still would have been little more than dead weight without her tail in today’s games. ”Things have gotten fairly interesting for me since our last meeting. I made a new friend and even found an abandoned hotel to fix up and settle down in. Should you ever find yourself in the Diablo Desert, feel free to stop by.”
It was then that the final member of their team showed up. It was a Saiyan woman who was wearing a suit of armor that looked like it had seen quite a bit of use. There was a pair of large sun glasses over her eyes and a wide grin spread from cheek to cheek. It was easy to tell by what she could see of her expression and the way that she moved that she was in high spirits. ”Good morning to you as well. You must be Zucceta,” the serpentine lass politely returned the greeting. ”My name is Nai-Ran. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
Though, there was something a bit off about how Zucceta had greeted her. Nai-Ran lightly raised her eyebrows and tilted her head to the side. Did she just lick her lips at her? That wasn’t a gesture that she recognized. Well, not one for greeting someone at least. Something like that was usually displayed when looking at food while feeling particularly ravenous. Sometimes it was a way to subtly compliment whoever had prepared the meal on a job well done. Did that have something to do with how her teammate was looking at her, or...? Nai-Ran shook her head. She was probably just overthinking things again. It was one of the things she liked about living on Earth so far. Most things she didn’t understand turned out to be far simpler than they ever would have been back on her home world. That was Appodorran politics for you. Everything had to be unbelievably subtle with at least two or three deeper meanings to even the smallest of actions.
Zucceta and Vi-Poi had no need to exchange introductions, as they apparently already knew each other. The android mentioned something about ‘Blutz Bans’ and ‘Pride Points’, neither of which were terms that the Ryashi had ever heard of. She found herself a bit too distracted to stick her nose in the matter though, as her gaze had become locked on the tower that one of them would shortly be climbing. All three of them were there. There was no point in stalling. Nai-Ran had to figure out exactly what argument to make for herself to convince at least one of her two team mates to be the one to do the climbing. How was she to phrase it so that she didn’t sound weak? It wasn’t her fault that her kind didn’t have any tolerance to the cold, but just saying that didn’t sit well with her. It almost sounded like an excuse.
As she tried to wrack her brain for ideas, Nai-Ran’s nervousness was starting to build up within her once more, hidden from both of her partners and even herself to a certain extent. The buildup had been so quick that the young woman was a little surprised when she heard herself sigh in relief at Zucceta’s declaration that she would fill their team’s Climber position. It felt like a large weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. This challenge wouldn’t be so bad now that she didn’t have to worry about getting pelted with cold water and falling unconscious in the middle of the competition. ”We’ll be supporting you from the air then. Give it your all!” she cheered before uncoiling herself and slithering over to the hovercraft she had been assigned. Zucceta may not have been one to strategize, but that didn’t mean that Nai-Ran and Vi-Poi couldn’t discuss an approach to the competition.
Nai-Ran had never fond of her father’s lectures on military strategy. It simply wasn’t a subject that interested her. However, it was no surprise that some of it would have sunk in with how often he liked to go on and on about that topic in particular. While it wasn’t perfect translation into this scenario, she imagined the games would share some similarities once they began. ”Stamina is definitely a factor to consider when picking our targets. We don’t have much intelligence to go off of as far as the opposing teams go, let alone which of their members shall be doing the climbing. That doesn’t leave us a lot of room for planning ahead of time on how to deal with each individual opponent. I believe that watchful eyes and good communication will be the keys to victory here.”

Lady Death chuckles at Vi-Poi's apparent enthusiasm for her attire. "Pride points, sweet! I can buy more Blutz Bans with those!" She says, almost entirely convincingly. Almost.
"These things actually come in handy." She smiles. "Didn't think you'd be one to aid the saiya-jin people, Virtual Poi." In particular, they worked well in combination with her newest technique...
Zucceta approaches the starting line with a chuckle. She didn't really need to 'plan' her climbing; she needed to move steadily, without tiring herself; she recalled the old adage of the turtle and hare, or whatever mutated saiyan beasts took the equivalent places in the tale. She knew her team-mates were reliable... even if she didn't particularly like them, she respected them and knew they would do the best they could by her, even if only for the team rather than her personally.
And in war, that was enough.

(Postin cause Rei said to while she gets sorted )Vi-Poi smiled at Zucceta’s words. “They do indeed come in handy. You can even exchange them for new internal components, should your scouter be destroyed or damaged.” He suggested idly, the grabbed one of the icy cold water balloons, giving it a light squeeze. They were filled tightly, and would be easy to throw or lob. “You mistake the Blue Banner Army for a racist institution, Zucceta. We are not human-centric. I myself am not human, and I do not consider myself part of any category of being besides the simple fact that I am sentient. Your species are super predators, but so are the humans. Where the two differ is, your political structure fosters a hyper-dominant mindset when it encounters other potential competitors, instead of fostering cooperation, it incites warfare. Just look at what was done by members of your Empire to the last large game hosted by this planet. Your entire economy is a war economy. When the largest trade in the economy is colonial acquisition and expansion, aggression is a foregone conclusion.”
After this dialogue, Vi-Poi clambered into the hovercraft next to Nai-Ran and shot her a friendly wink. “Hopefully we will prove ourselves as good gunners.” He said before toggling the control stick of the machine and letting it wob wob wob upwards along the axis of the dizzyingly tall tower. He tweaked his processor and shuttered all outside stimuli save for the tower, himself, the climbers, and the space in between, moving the freed processing power straight onto this task. All of his other senses became dull and obtund. If one were watching him closely, they might even notice his bright eyes dim somewhat.
Technically, he wasn’t abusing his abilities. He wasn’t using Lock-On – that would be outright unfair – he was simply focusing in the way a robot might focus, in a method analog to a sentient animal.
Vi-Poi reached down into his supply bucket and hefted a balloon, testing its weight in his hand.
When the race began, he waited for the other teams to start their volleys, before choosing one that had yet to be hit. He began to equally disperse the balloons between Koramund and Bigby 101, while also delivering the occasional shot to Pieter, all the while making slow revolutions around the tower with his flying machine.
He blinked in surprise when he noticed Zexama spewing dozens of balloons from her mouth all over the competition grounds, a whirling dervish of candified liquid. His social algorithms almost burst back online from that hilarity, but he regained his intense focus and threw a tight arc aimed at Koramund. During his firing he also tried to intercept other balloons thrown towards Zucceta, as there were no specific rules against defending your own climber with your projectiles. He made certain to keep his trajectories out of her way, so as not to accidentally hinder her with a balloon.
The game went on at a frantic tilt, but he was certain with the right mixture of strategy and tactics, Team Three could prevail.
