Do you want faster grades? To enjoy a new level of respect? Maybe even make some new friends? Then I personally ask that you reconsider applying to become a staff member.
The first place you are (probably) going to end up is on the grading floor. If the first thing that you want to do when you log in is write a big ol' post for yourself then you should probably rethink your consideration. The first place that you should be hitting is the threads to be graded board, and if you don't like the idea of grading every time you get a chance (possibly not even getting your big old post done)- then you probably shouldn't be a mod. I'm not saying you need to be a slave to the grading board, but when it comes to being on this site as a grading mod it needs to take priority over your own character development. Real life always takes priority, but if you have the time to be writing thousand and thousands of words a day then you have time to grade a few posts here and there. If you can't see past your own character progression and give up some of your time to the community then you don't deserve the votes of confidence people are putting in you when you go to become a mod.
IE. I should not have real life issues preventing me from getting online for a 2-3 days and come back as the last one who graded a thread.
This isn't a suggestion, or a mandate, or whatever. It is my personal opinion, and a reality check I think people need to make before they volunteer that is a little more blunt than Pieter's version. Volunteering/ Being staff is working for free, it isn't about status or benefit.
