"Oh, certainly, death is by no means a pleasant experience." That wasn't necessarily so much as to say that it couldn't be pleasant— a chocolate overdose, for instance, would grant a pleasant death. Same would go for drowning in a pool of kittens. "Do you know how I died, by any chance? No matter, I'll tell you: I was quite heavily pierced through the chest by the then-Queen Zucceta during her infamous Sacking of Arcose. I fell to the ground below and, in my final moments of consciousness before death, I saw my blood form a pool around me in the ice as I uttered my final words." Her final words were a request to be buried in the ice fields, a request that, eventually, one of Zucceta's lackeys— seemingly the only one with any degree of respect— carried out. "It was in these final moments, the final moments I thought I'd ever have, that I felt something that I had never felt before: the cold." There was one other occasion, but that was from an artificially-induced dream and didn't really count. "And then, as the cold tends to do, it enveloped me." And the next thing she felt after that was a jolt of surprise as she felt the sudden change in everything and heard the orders of an obnoxious blue sapient biped.
"I've never fought in an ocean before either." She had been this deep in oceans and had also fought underwater, just never a combination of the two. Until today, that is, if simulations count. "It seems entertaining already." As all classy individuals know, 'entertaining' was what you said when you wanted to say 'fun' but with more syllables.
Gira lunged forwards. The water slowed her down, sure, but it also slowed down any counter-act Wyntre might have had. This allowed the two of them more time to think through their respective actions and reactions. As a result of this, Wyntre was especially quick to recognise what Gira was attempting to do but also especially quick in realising that she didn't have the time to counteract this without making herself open for attack.
She didn't resist the punch from Gira all that much— in fact, she went along with it and used the backwards momentum it gave her to avoid the kick to the neck and the knee to the chest. What it didn't allow her to avoid, however, were the subsequent strikes of varying flavours aimed at various areas. Wyntre tried her best to dodge, block or deflect these attacks to some success but the general slowness of it all allowed her the opportunity to analyse Gira's actions. "Your strikes seem random. They may make your attacks unpredictable but they might not be the best for your fluidity or strike combinations." Or 'combos', as the cool kids call them. "Regardless, it seems like an odd choice. Tell me about the fighting style you're using, if you would be so kind."
Since Wyntre's almost-leap very-definitely-intentional ploy earlier had seen mild success, she figured that she may as well try something in the same spirit. How about she… Yes, that'd do nicely.
Red ki seemed to gather in Wyntre's eyes. With Gira so close, this was a prime opportunity to strike— surely, wouldn't the hybrid attempt to guard her face, where a Ki attack from the eyes would almost certainly be sent? But, you see, the premise was a lie: there was no ki attack. It was a red herring and the sort of distraction Wyntre had hoped would allow her to punch Gira right in the stomach. Plus, without an actual ki attack sent, no water could evaporate and let anything else know they were there.
Or, at least that was the plan.

Sometimes I accidentally omit words when I'm writing and they make it through my last-minute grammar-checking because I know what I'm trying to say and unconsciously read less what's there and more what I had intended to be there. I apologise if any of these instances have detracted from your reading experience.

Dying. It certainly didn't sound pleasant. Gira didn't like the cold as it was, but to hear that death was so cold that Wyntre herself could feel it, it definitely made her wish for life even more. 'Yup. That settles it. I'm not gonna die if I can help it.' She also got an interesting bit of history; Wyntre herself had died once before. At the hands of the former Saiyan Queen no less. It definitely didn't sound like a good end. At least, it didn't sound like an end worthy of her. At least she died protecting her home. She died well, it seemed, so there was that.
'Personally, i'd rather die in my sleep at a ripe old age. If I were to die like that, though, I wouldn't be too upset.' As Gira assaulted Wyntre with a quick, random combo, the former Arcosian Empress questioned her about the fighting style she was using. In truth, it wasn't anything special just yet. "Just gathering information. Probing your defenses. Stuff like that. I plan on showing you a little more of my Turtle Style techniques, but I don't want to waste my shot." Then Gira saw it, the ki gathering in her opponent's eyes. 'Oh crap!' It seemed like the attack was going to strike her in the face.
The hybrid raised her guard in midair to block the incoming attack, but it didn't quite work out how she planned. The half-Saiyan let out a grunt as Wyntre's fist made contact with her stomach, the force of the blow sending her through the water a couple dozen meters before she stopped herself. "Ow, nice shot." Gira slipped back into her experimental stance, changing it up a bit and closing her guard to make it more defensive. "Okay, let's see here..." Gira didn't want to fire out a ki attack just yet. Their battle was just getting good! Facing a creature of the deep and putting their spar on hold didn't sound good to her.
That being the case, Gira really had only one good option. The hybrid lunged forward after she had finished recovering from her opponent's punch. She threw a punch at Wyntre's chest, but that was simply a feint. Carrying herself with her ki, Gira moved behind Wyntre and infused her leg with ki, preparing for a classic move of hers. "Nuclear Kick!" The ki-infused kick cut through the water, aimed for the center of Wyntre's back.

Gira hadn't truly begun using a different fighting style. If Gira thought it necessary to try to probe Wyntre's defences, perhaps she was of the belief that what she would learn from this investigation would reveal potential snippets of information she could use to bolster her fighting style. "Oh? And what have you learnt in your investigation?" Sure, divulging that information would give the Arcosian an advantage of sorts, but they weren't sparring for the sake of the victory; they were sparring so that they could learn and so that they could become stronger. Critique of one's stance was a part of that.
Gira raised her guard so as to brace for the upcoming eye laser attack… but, alas, it never came. Wyntre's punch to the hybrid's stomach connected flawlessly as the Arcosian's red herring red laser glow faded. Gira had been sent back multiple tens of meters which didn't sound like much until one realised precisely how deep they were. Wyntre could barely make out the details in the obscured and pained figure and had to make sure with her scouted that the vague darkness in the surrounding void was, indeed, Gira. They were so far away and the ocean so very ocean-y that Wyntre couldn't even make out what was said, although she (correctly) believed that she had worked it out based on context clues and what little she did hear.
Gira might have been dozens of meters away but, only moments later, all of that distance disappeared faster than anything travelling underwater had the right to. Wyntre attempted to deflect a punch to her chest but, alas, it was not a feint. Before she could reorient herself to Gira's then-unknown location, she heard the title of a technique from right behind her…
By Arcose…
She tried, but it was already too late. She could only turn her head far enough to vaguely see Gira's figure before her back was engulfed in a great strain, followed by pain. The sheer force of the strike sent Wyntre just as deep as Gira had been not seconds earlier.
"Computer, amplify for coherency." We couldn't have them not hear each other, now could we? "Good, good. You managed to hit me so quickly that I wasn't able to manoeuvre my tail to save me." Although, perhaps a tail wouldn't have been adequate to defend against such a technique. "You called it 'Nuclear' Kick, didn't you? Peculiar." She briefly wondered what quality would justify the technique having such a name. The conversation she was having about technique names describing their functions reminded her of something odd, however.
"Perhaps there's a technique I haven't told you about. Perhaps… yes, yes, I can get that to work. Now, how would I—?" Ki swayed about Wyntre as it interacted with the water. She seemed to be in some discomfort, however— the strike to her back must have affected her more than her reaction would have indicated. Yet, despite this, she pulled through and succeeded in her task of making a shield.
"Now, you might be wondering to yourself, 'why did she have such difficulty in erecting that shield?'. The information you are missing, however, is that this isn't just any psychic shield. This shield will be sustained until you break through it." Well, that wasn't necessarily true: the shield would fade in a surprisingly short amount of time.

"I learned that the water is slowing you down as much is it is me." Gira responded as her kick hit home, catching Wyntre in the back and sending her flying into the depths. Though Gira could no longer see her opponent, she could still sense her energy. As Wyntre's voice pierced the water, the hybrid looked down in her direction, lowering herself to her partner's depth. "I call it "Nuclear Kick" cuz it hits with the force of a nuke. I mean, when I first created it, it might not have been that strong, but it definitely is now. Sometimes makes a mushroom cloud if they hit the ground with enough force."
The half-Saiyan grinned proudly. She then noticed traces of ki coming off of Wyntre's body, mingling with the water around them. Gira just stood there and watched, interested in what she was doing now. What Wyntre said led to her wanting to see this technique for herself. The discomfort didn't go unnoticed by the teen, however. Her Nuclear Kick seemed to do a fair amount of damage. Perhaps her choice of battlefields was a lot more important than she thought. An important lesson and one Gira would be sure to remember. Where one fights is almost as important as how one fights.
As the barrier of psychic energy came into view, Gira's mouth hung open slightly. 'Wow! I've never seen a move like that before!' How many times had that thought crossed the young hybrid's mind when she fought Wyntre? Listening to what her opponent was saying, it seemed she called forth a sustained barrier of some kind. Hearing that Gira would have to shatter the barrier to get it to her opponent, the hybrid grinned excitedly. "Alright then. I think I can handle that." The teen tensed up as she prepared to attempt to break through the barrier.
The water around the hybrid began to stir slightly as she began to release her ki. Gira raised her arm, aiming her palm at Wyntre. Golden electricity sparked between her fingers and danced up her arm. As her energy rose even further, the water began to boil around her body, the tiny bubbles rising up towards the surface. "I've still got some tricks up my sleeve too, you know." Gira smiled warmly at Wyntre as she charged her Aether Cannon, yet another classic move of hers. She wanted to show Wyntre everything in this fight, and the hybrid still had a lot more to show off.

Humans evolved from other sapient bipeds which evolved from not- quite-sapient bipeds which evolved from four-legged mammals and so on and so forth. This process of evolution began in Earth's oceans and went on from there but, at some point or another, humanity's ancestors had lost the ability to survive underwater. Wyntre believed it ironic that a human (well, half-human) whose species ultimately originated from a puddle on a mote of dust would normally struggle in such an environment. Conversely, Wyntre would be having no more trouble underwater even if it had realistic oxygen and pressure levels than she was having now, even though Arcose had no liquid water. "Oh, perhaps you're right, but don't underestimate me: Arcosians are known for their speed." As well as their power, their ki usage, their durability, their taste in wine and their monologues/arrogance (although, really, the two went hand in hand).
The water around Gira began swirling in anticipation. It was almost as if the water was circling around her. At the risk of hyperbole, these fluctuations might have even been seen from the surface… if it weren't a simulation. "Brilliant, tricks! If you have tricks of your own, go on, surprise me." She wasn't as confident in her chances as she seemed, however: she had used more energy than she should have in the creation of her barrier. It would last a while, sure, but Gira was already charging an attack to shatter it. She became resolute in her goal: to have enough energy to cancel out whatever the hybrid was preparing.

Gira continued to hold her palm out, the golden electricity crackling around her arm growing more frequent and erratic with each passing second. The hybrid's fingers twitched as the energy flowed through her, gathering in front of her palm in a yellow basketball-sized ball. "This was the very first technique I developed when I decided to use my power. My last attack, my Nuclear Kick, was the second. I also call it "Watcher Kick" when i'm out doing hero stuff. This next attack, I call "Watcher Cannon." But it has another name too." The hybrid grinned and took aim one last time.
"Aether Cannon!" Gira thrust her palm towards Wyntre and her barrier, the bundle of ki rocketing towards them, evaporating all the water in its way and creating a small tunnel through the water. 'Now!' Gira would hardly even have a second before the tunnel collapsed, but without the water slowing her down, she'd be able to make it in time... she hoped. The tunnel was narrow, but thankfully, Gira was quite small. The hybrid flew through the tunnel head first at full speed, following her attack as it charged through the water and towards her target.
Unencumbered by the water resistance, she was able to move much faster to her target. If her Aether Cannon succeeded in breaking Wyntre's barrier, Gira would be right behind it. Drawing her fist back, she would throw it at her opponent's face with a all of her strength, following up with a flurry of punches and kicks towards Wyntre's midsection and face before finishing with a sweeping kick aimed for her legs and a solid drop kick to her head. As soon as she completed her attack, the tunnel through the ocean water would collapse behind her. Hopefully, her strategy was at least mildly effective.

Gira had different names for her techniques for when she was out doing hero business. This was all well and good until one asks oneself an important question: why? Perhaps it was to differentiate the Watcher from any appearances in the media that Gira might have had as herself. Or, perhaps she did it because she didn't want her superhero identity to be dirtied with nuclear imagery. Or, perhaps she just thought it sounded cool. Regardless, it wouldn't reflect very well on the intellects or lack thereof of the humans who fail to make the connection.
The Aether Cannon sped towards the psychic shield with great speed. Upon contact it smashed into, but not quite through, the shield… it only happened in such a short period of time but it felt like an eternity regardless as Wyntre stressed under the weight of her collapsing bubble. It broke just in time to have Gira take advantage of the absurdly minimal amount of time she had without water and make her way through…
… with a devastating kablamo to the face-erino. It was continued with a series of well-executed strikes and blows primarily aimed at the torso and head. At the end of it all, in her first moment upon not being struck, remarked: "I didn't think you'd do that. But you did, and it seems you've made a fool of me. Congratulations, you punch like a train made of anvils. But, perhaps you shouldn't pat yourself on the back just yet. After all, you have an audience of all your own." Perhaps, initially, Gira wouldn't have known what this meant. But, as the gurgles and shadows moving across the water got closer, perhaps she would have figured it out. "Whatever that is," she began, reclaiming her draconic stance, "it now knows we're here. I suppose it's our duty, then, to scare it away with our sheer power, is it not?"
She looked up (with some difficulty— she was hit quite hard at the back of the neck) as she saw the gaseous pocket of water vapour disappear from view.
It would be rude to deny one's audience everything after the first act, after all.

Gira grinned as it seemed her attack was effective. The hybrid gave Wyntre some space to recover, chuckling nervously and blushing with embarrassment at the praise the Arcosian gave her, but quickly stopped and looked at her in confusion. A strange gurgling sound permeated the water, however, prompting the teen to look in the direction of the noise. She saw a fleeting shadow through the water. It was getting closer. "W-Wow..." Gira wasn't sure what it was exactly, but it was big.
Much of the oceans of Earth were unexplored, so it could literally be anything. Once Wyntre shifted back into her stance, Gira did too. "Right. Let's send this thing packing." Gira flared up her aura, the water around her boiling and tiny bubbles obscuring her body. Fighting a deep-sea horror was definitely new to the young hybrid, but she wouldn't dare shrink from this challenge. It was a new experience. Plus, this was just a simulation. Surely something produced by a simulation couldn't hurt them, right?
The teen prepared herself for the appearance of the monster, waiting for her ki to build a bit. Doing a Nuclear Kick and then an Aether Cannon in quick succession like that took a toll on her energy reserves. She had one good attack in her at the moment, but that was it. She would simply wait for the monster to make itself known. 'I don't wanna Kamehameha your face, but I will if I have to.' Gira tensed up and kept her eye on the moving shadow as it floated around them, getting closer with every pass.

Perhaps, from the perspectives of the creature of the deep, the intrusion of our heroes would have seemed more akin to two squishy slabs of meat spontaneously generating large quantities of heat. The creature, in all of its admittedly many years, had never seen anything like it. How, it thought, would it go about eating the two pieces of bait stuck near the bottom of the ocean? It had an answer to that, surprisingly, but it wasn’t particularly verbose. Translated to the common language, its answer was something like ‘just eat them whole’ except it somehow invoked the imagery of the horrible screeching chalk can make upon a board.
”Well, I was planning on having our fight scare it away, but I suppose this could also work.” And what reason would there have been for it not to work? ‘Kill the monster’. It was a classic, and if it was a classic it must have worked. ”Get ready.”
It circled around them much like a shark would, getting nearer with each revolution. Of course, from what little our two heroes could see of it, to call it a shark would be like calling a rhinoceros a lemur. Eventually, however, it got close enough to get a good look at.
Much like how lemurs and rhinoceros share a general body shape and number of legs, this thing shared with sharks… a snout, and maybe a few ‘fins’. It didn’t have the same number of eyes as a shark, the real value looked like it would have been closer to the number of eyes of every shark. Its mouth, if it could be called that, seemed to be made out of buzzsaws. And, while its back could not be seen in any degree of clarity, its outline seemed to put giant octopuses to shame.
Wyntre, unflinching, hadn’t even begun her attack yet.
”How about you go first?”

Gira looked over at Wyntre and chuckled when she mentioned having their fight scare the creature away. "We'll still have our fight. Killing a monster sounds fun though." Gira kept her eye on the creature as it moved ever closer until it finally came into view. The hybrid's eyes widened briefly in surprise. It was truly a monstrous creature, its appearance striking fear into Gira for a brief moment. She was incredibly strong, but this thing just looked scary. Much scarier than she, a tiny seventeen year-old girl. Even though she most certainly had a higher power.
Steeling herself, Gira prepared to attack. Wyntre then told the teen that she could go first, eliciting a nervous laugh from the hybrid. "Right. I'll go first." Facing down the monster, Gira gathered her courage. With great power came the knowledge that there was little to be afraid of. Keeping that in mind, Gira charged through the water at the abomination, delivering a solid upwards kick to where its chin would be before delivering a solid series of strikes to its eyes. Hopefully, this would do some damage. Gira figured that it would, but still, there was some doubt...

”Ah, yes, vanquishing a monster. A classic goal and a noble one.”
Gira looked positively terrified of the beast, however: she seemed almost hesitant to attack it. Not because of a conflict of morals or anything like that, but more out of the utterly terrifying appearance of the beast. It was not a coincidence that the concepts of fear and monsters were so tightly entwined together in the Earthling media… or the wider galactic media, for that matter. It wasn’t a coincidence, no, it was way more than that. But did being scary make you a monster, or did being a monster make you scary?
Bam! Slam! Dash! KRAKOOM!
If Gira had known how weak the monster was, perhaps she wouldn’t have been afraid. As her attacks comically smashed into its body and as each kick made inoperable whatever it hit, it was made abundantly clear that it was no match for either of them. ”Was this of any surprise? You can rend mountains asunder with a punch. You are what is, in effect, a god.” She paused and brought attention to the dying beast, its black blood permeating through the water. ”That thing is, in effect, a blobfish. You are superior in every regard except for size.” That wasn’t to say that Gira was short, just that she wasn’t as large as an eldritch abomination.
But, the beast wasn’t quite dead yet. It rose out from the darkness of its own blood and swam straight for the humanling, its teeth reared and ready…
Until it saw another pesky dot get in the way and halt its momentum in its entirety. ”Computer. Heal the beast and give it a Power Level as large as either of ours.”
And it was done. The beast’s blood flowed back into its body as if it were reversed footage and a number shot up on Wyntre’s scouter. 27,286PL. ”Now it’s a three-sided fight. Which of us are you going to go for?”

Gira smirked as her attacks hit home, smashing into the abomination of the deep. She flew backwards through the water to give herself some time to think of how to finish the beast off. She wouldn't get much time, however, as the monster recovered and made a beeline right for her. The hybrid readied herself to clock the monster right in the teeth when it suddenly stopped in its tracks. Then came Wyntre's voice, addressing the computer. She wanted to heal the beast and empower it to be on par with them. Gira chuckled nervously upon hearing this.
"Well... uh... bring it on!" Gira slipped into her stance once more, looking on in awe as the beast moved and the blood was sucked back into its body like an old VHS tape being rewinded. At that point, its power rose from being hardly a blip on her radar to being equal with her how she was now. "Okay... I got this." The half-Saiyan looked over at Wyntre as she spoke to the beast. "I'll take this thing on. How hard can it be?" Famous last words. Gira lunged at their opponent, rocketing through the water as fast as possible and aiming a punch at its right eye, floating back slightly before attempting a kick at its nose.
This wasn't good enough for Gira though. She wanted to take this creepy thing out as quickly as possible. After her last kick, Gira began to throw a flurry of kicks at its nose. She would continue this until the monster moved away or until she was somehow stopped.

Only a very basic understanding of mathematics is required to understand that, if a closed system is compacted, there would be more things in that closed system per area than there was before on account of there being less area to occupy. Power Levels could be seen in much the same way: if all three of them had the exact same PL but the abomination was much larger, did it not have a much lower PL to volume ratio? If that were the case, surely Gira wouldn't have had much trouble in striking.
... But, alas, trouble was had. Her strikes had a lot of force behind them, enough force to mark the beast's very flesh, but it wasn't the sort of damage you might have expected with knowledge of the square-cube law or ratios. Given this knowledge, however, one would likely come to the following conclusion: either the computer was changing things around or maths didn't work.
Gira hits its 'nose' very hard with strikes that sent it reeling away in pain. It was a great beast of the sea, however, and it was not to be underestimated! Its speed, now thunderous, sped the sharkoptopuscthulhusquidporcupinesatangivenflesh towards the two of them with a veracity as of yet unseen. "How about we do this together? If we both hit it at full force, it won't stand a chance."
She began charging her ki. Only seconds later (she only had seconds, with the beast racing at them like it was!) her attack was ready to be sent...

Gira's confidence returned with each strike that met its mark. "Yeah!" This was a lot easier than she thought it would be. The hybrid smirked and sped backwards towards Wyntre, halting beside her. She shifted back into her stance when the abomination of the deep showed signs of recovering from her attack. "Damn! This thing's tough." A thoughtful expression found its way to Gira's face as she rethought her strategy. Wyntre had a brilliant, but simple idea in that moment, though.
As the beast began its final charge towards them, Wyntre suggested that they both attack it at full strength. Gira grinned and nodded to the Arcosian. "Yeah! Let's kick its ass!" With both of them firing their full-power techniques (full-power at their current strength anyway), this thing wouldn't stand a chance! The teen quickly shifted stances again, cupping her hands at her side and gathering energy between her palms. Gira was pushing herself as far as she could with her weighted training gear on.
Sweat began to drip down Gira's forehead as she mustered as much energy as she could in those brief few seconds before the abomination reached them. Once Wyntre fired off her full-power Death Beam, Gira followed suit. "You hungry!? Eat this, fish! KAME-HAME-HA!" The half-Saiyan threw her hands forward after calling the name of her attack, the heels of her palm still together. A thick beam of bluish-white energy fired out of her palms, evaporating all of the water in its path and then some as it sped towards her and Wyntre's target alongside the Arcosian's Death Beam.

The Full-Power Death Beam punctures the beast's 'skin' and didn't show any signs of stopping. It went and went and went until, eventually, it punctured its 'skin' again, although this time from the other direction. Left in its wake was a continual hole going straight through the/a heart of the roaring beast…
The Kamehameha was brighter than the Full-Power Death Beam. And, although Wyntre didn't think particularly highly of it as it lacked a certain finesse that she was looking for, it sure did a lot of damage. The Kamehameha rendered asunder all the skin it made contact with (more than the beam had, certainly) and dug through a large area of flesh. The beast cried out in pain, then rage…
Then, it stopped. No cry, no whimper, not any noise at all. It simply… stopped. It floated upwards, opportunistic fish already rushing in to get their fill. Was it dead? Most certainly. But, then again, did it really matter?
When Gira turned her attention away from the vanquished threat, she'd be welcomed by Wyntre's stare. "The creature we just fought, I'm not sure if its kind could actually be found on Earth. There's always the possibility that the Computer brought in a known organism from another planet and just dropped it off in the simulation." Her stance changed to what she believed the Scobian dragon stance looked like. She was wrong, but don't tell her that. "For now, however, there's just us."
Wyntre flew forwards with great speed as she formulated her plan. The Arcosian knew of Gira's apparent tail weakness immunity— she'd fallen for that one before— but perhaps the Hybrid didn't know that Wyntre knew this. Her great speed overshot slightly to Gira's side so as to make it appear as if she was attempting to grab her tail, but then… Wyntre aimed a sucker directly to the face. She hoped it would hit, but didn't care nearly as much for if it would do any considerable degree of damage.

I apologise in turn for a wait longer than all of recorded history.
