Name:
Hangu (Huángguā, cucumber in Chinese)
Alias:
N/A
Species:
Saiyan
Gender:
Male
Age:
18
Appearance:
Standing at a miserable 5'5 , Hangu dismisses his short stature, making no effort to appear taller. While his home planet's gravity dwarfed that of Vegeta, it was Hangu's strict mother that ensured the saiyan's steady growth. His immense musculature is often described as deformed, much to his chagrin. Not exactly a looker, his pronounced widow's peak and apparent lack of eyebrows make for a weird combination. In true purebred Saiyan fashion, his hair is spiky, but abnormally short.
Hangu wears standard-issue armor offered by the Empire, and has yet to customise it. The armor consists on a black cuirass with little in the way of decoration, baggy pants lighter in color, and white boots. He has given up on wearing gloves after losing too many pairs.
Like his ki, the scouter he uses is aquamarine, and an heirloom from his late father. He wouldn't cry over breaking it, but he'd rather keep it instead of buying a newer (more expensive) model.
History:
Hailing from a planet a way off from Vegeta, Hangu grew up in a flourishing society made up of saiyan colonists. The planet was incredibly rich in resources, but its exceptionally heavy gravity wouldn't allow saiyans to grow complacent. Like any other Imperial offshoot colony, its society had a strict and well-defined class system, dissuading those of higher classes to mingle with the lower ones.
The man that would become Hangu's father was a high-class veteran assigned to govern his people with an iron fist, oppressive and ruthless like any saiyan officer should be. Despite leading the colony into taking its first steps as a prosperous trade outpost, his peculiar willingness to do anything with a pulse was frowned upon. The man's libido was so strong that, two or three generations later, all of those born into the colony would owe some of their power to him. He was bested in combat days before finishing his first term, and there was much rejoicing.
If Hangu's father ranked atop the upper echelons of the colony, his mother was at the uneasy middle, her condition dependant on the supply of marble from the nearby quarry. She was a fine sculptor, and the secrecy behind her excellent craftsmanship made her somewhat of a local celebrity. Two weeks after giving birth, she was already at work, treating her son as nothing more than a new addition to her arsenal of tools. He fondly remembers being used to smooth stone, but has subconsciously suppressed the many times he was used to shatter.
At the ripe age of 13, an indoctrinated Hangu began his training proper. The
Two years into training, Hangu was sent on his first mission. The slaves that worked at his mother's workshop had revolted, refusing to free their owner unless they were given sordid things like "wages" and "edible food". Needless to say, the tribe's militia cut through the mutineers like butter, with Hangu guiding the squadron through the labyrinthine cobbled corridors.
When Bapipe, the namekian slave that led his comrades like he once did with warriors, was found with the sculptor's blood in his hands, the vengeful son attacked him with all his might. The rest of squadron watched with sadistic glee as the proud elder was cut in half, his severed head still pleading for mercy as Hangu used a ki blade to spill its contents.
After three years of relative peace, the colony sent Hangu and some others to planet Vegeta, paying tribute with soldiers as there was no more precious marble to export. There, he learned of a backwater mudball called Earth, whose soil was blessed with hundreds of minerals in amounts unheard of. While he had no love for the ongoing hostilities, the young saiyan volunteered to serve there.
The brass allowed the transfer, under the condition that he would have to return in six months with a dozen loyalists who, for whatever reason, found themselves incapable of returning to Vegeta. Mere minutes after the notice, Hangu was already boarding a pod.
