It was a lovely day in Friezaton and all was well!
"Mnn. Mnn-nh. Absolutely not."
All was not well. If anyone worth their salt were present, the could feel the proverbial storm building within the city. Chaos aside, there was no sense in sticking around to loot like a petty thief and wind up speeding to Death's embrace. After all, when you die you can't take your money with you. It was however, almost effortless to carry the one thing his family was unaware of: his pod.
"Fight and bleed all they want, I have no intentions of becoming a smoldering, yet lovely corpse." Veiss always held himself in high regard, even in scenarios that involved his death or injury, he dare not suffer a wound to his ego. His pace was hurried, almost anxious but in his ever-present nature to preserve some sort of image, Veiss played it off as if he were going for a brisk walk and not some hastily thought of evacuation. No, Veiss believed this was going to be a vacation to avoid the drama involving this boring old city on this boring old planet. Where was the fun? Where was the relaxation? Where was the 'zazz?
Not even bothering to so much as glance over his shoulder for one last look for nostalgia's sake, Veiss set the ship down on a 'relatively' stable divot in the dirt. "Not exactly a proper diving board to launch oneself into the beautiful pool of space." The young Arcosian thought aloud as the hiss of the hermetic seal broke the air, his eyes turning towards the skies, daydreaming in brevity of what paradise he might visit. Perhaps Namek? Maybe Kanassa?
Climbing inside, Veiss took stock of things for a moment, mostly refamiliarizing himself with the controls. Rather, he attempted to--the whirr of the hatch closing made him smile, though, for it was all it took to get him believing that he was well on the right track. "Let's see...Hmn, this should be...Ah! Lovely, we'll go to Namek." It was an older model but granted, Veiss had never anticipated the need for it either. Beep. "Oh! I've got it. Ah-hah! Look at me go, Captain Veiss. I should run a cruise ship for the sole purpose of tourism, that would certainly--" Destination selected. Estimated time of arrival: Twenty four hours. Launch? The feminine, synthesized voice finally spoke up amid the beeps and blips of his less-than-stellar method of trial and error but satisfied with his efforts, Veiss failed to notice a minuscule error along with a damaged warning light that did not illuminate. "Twenty four hours seems a long time just for Namek...perhaps it's the scenic route? This will be a treat. Confirm aaaaand launch." Be-beep! Destination confirmed, Earth. Launch sequence and sleep aid administered in ten, nine, eight... He froze.
"I'm sorry, what?"
And what began as casual denial for Veiss as he tried to make a correction, ...seven, six, five... "No. No, no, no!" Had quickly escalated to a frantic attempt to stop the launch altogether, hands tensed up and raised in an almost instinctual manner to smash the console out of frustration but Veiss stopped as soon as he thought of an alternative, ...four, three, two... Veiss and his infinite wisdom thought it as simple as using the emergency override. Ka-chunk! Nothing? Nothing?! Oh, that damaged warning light might have helped sooner. Shame what happens when one does not perform regular checks before operating. "Son of a harlo--" Hshssss! ...one. The sleep aid administered and back Veiss slumped with bottle of wine loosely tucked between his hip and the plush seating before the pod thrummed to life and rocketed towards the limits of the atmosphere.
