Unknown Planet, One week before arrival on Vegeta...
A cloaked ship settled within the forest, the wind blowing away all sorts of plants. It was a small craft, somewhat banged up from so many years of use. It was part of a larger spacecraft, one piloted by a group of soldiers-turned-mercenaries (well, eaten ones, anyway). The pilot was a refugee of a planet known as Vegeta, a world populated by some of the strongest warriors ever known. With a story like that, it had to end as these usually go. Constant warring, a hellish war with bodies all around, and a soldier lost in the void without his family and friends. Nothing ever seems to last.
Hazard still remembered his team, bright and smiling along with him. They never cared much for fame or glory, only getting the job done. They were as close to family as Hazard would ever get, even after all these years. The soldier was in a different world now, with his team long past dead. To this day, he still wonders if he could've saved him at that last moment.
For many, fighting for one's home was a duty carried by few. It was everyone's fight, especially for the Saiyans, but for none morso than the ones who defended it from the beginning of their lives. Hazard was a proud soldier, having fought for Vegeta before the scientists that abducted him wrecked everything. Everyone had long forgotten about a poor soldier like him, but for someone like Hazard, he still held on to his pride and memories. No matter how long this new journey was going to take, Hazard was going to make due with making his way back home.
Hazard emerged from the hatch of his ship, taking in the environment of this strange new world. Something about it gave the sniper a sense of calm, the sound of birds chirping around him. Whatever planet this was, it seemed to at least have some forms of life. It was just as likely that some sort of intelligent life-form have already made a base somewhere, as there would be food and shelter. Hazard was a long ways from any recent sightings of people, but his ship was running on fumes at this point and he wasn't about to fly aimlessly.
For the moment, Hazard had to stay put while he made his next move. Planting himself along the ground with a loud thud, some of the local wildlife flew out into the skies. The mutant was annoyed for sure, but also felt a bit saddened. He was curious about what sort of creatures resided on his mudball as he began to wander about. From where he was, there weren't likely going to be any higher life forms around for a while, but causing a scene likely wouldn't help him, either. As he was getting lost in thought, a sudden tap on his foot jolted him up.
"Hm." It was a strange creature with brown fur, curiously licking at him before backing away. The soldier tried to reach down and touch it, only for the poor thing to get spooked and run away. He looked at his loose hand and clenched it, shaking himself away from the apparent distraction. The sudden sound of other animals got him to quickly make way back to his ship, checking the monitors to find somewhere to get more resources. He would need to blend in with the planet, and there's seemed to be a few places nearby where he could get a start. He glanced at one of the monitors detecting a nearby form of shelter, hoping that his ship will make the trip.
He did find a small town on the way, somewhat primitive from the looks of it. With few options and little fuel left, the mutant had little choice but to land here. He appeared to the citizens like a stranger from the stars, the people looking at his ship with curiosity and awe. What little Hazard had, he shared along with some of the townsfolk. Gaining their gratitude and trust, the people of the town gave him food and a warm bed.
The next day, he found himself a part of the town's daily life, acting like a normal person. Hazard had learned to keep his alterations hidden with his cloak and some skills, but he was still careful to not be too attached to the townsfolk. Still, he couldn't help but be drawn to living a simple life, having been travelling for so long. The soldier wouldn't have minded staying just a little longer, staying with a mother and her young son for the next few days. It was all little comfort, however, given the sort of dreams that would come to him.
The mother would try and comfort the man during the rummaging, Hazard acting like a sickly dog each night. Every time it would grow worse, with tendrils working their way out of the Saiyan mutant's body. The poor woman was horrified at the sight of it, but kept her mouth silent to the other townspeople. Hazard was unconsciously losing his control over his form, and he very well knew it. Fighting did little to help, especially when his dreams come to entrap him.
It always started the same, being strapped onto a table in the middle of a cold room. Metallic instruments poked and prodded him, pulling him apart and back together. Things of alien origin were placed within him, beating on their own as if they were alive. His body melted, shifting into some hideous form as the scientists laughed at him. Hazard would scream and roar, but it all fell on deaf ears.
It would be here when the Saiyans would barge in and rescue him, dragging him by his feet. He would laugh at your face if you said that this led to anything good.
"A walking science experiment. A disgrace!" That was what the Saiyan Empire would say of him. Maybe it was his anxiety made manifest, or perhaps, the harsh truth left uncovered. The dream would end with an execution, to get rid of the blight that was in front of them. People cheered for bloodshed, and not a single tear was given for Hazard. It felt like the people of Vegeta had long forgotten his former name, not that naming a monster would matter to them.
A ki blast, a fatal blow, a blade...everything goes black at the end of it.
Hazard's eyes opened to a clear sky, the roof torn apart. It had been a week now since he came to this planet, and it seems like he wasn't quite welcome anymore. Nonetheless, he stretched out and ventured into the middle of the town to see his work from the other night. Corpses, people half-absorbed and remnants of fires and destruction decorated the area. The mutant Saiyan had tried, time and again, to explain his condition, but tensions grew among the common folk regardless. It was a shame, as he rather liked them.
He didn't have much time to dwell on things, as he still needed some more supplies to continue onto his journey to Vegeta. Before he could go on, a glass bottle hit the back of his head, stumbling onto the ground. Rage bubbled up within him, but Hazard still took the time to turn around and see. It was the son from before, bloodied but still alive. Next to him was the remains of his mother, killed in the onslaught. Neither of them said a word, but much was understood.
The boy seemed like he wanted to fight, but instead, ran the other way in fear. Hazard was quite surprised, believing that his apparent bravery would lead to a fight. Not that he would've stood much of a chance, but he still would've applauded him. Hazard shouldn't have been too surprised at how this all ended, as things are rarely too good to be true. With a heavy sigh, he walked away to find his ship, continuing on with his personal quest.
On the bright side, they had some fuel.
I'd like to take my reward in Zenni, please.
