The Marquess had his hands in his pockets as he stepped into the abandoned casino. It hadn't been too difficult to acquire the place. It had been sitting there, dilapidated for some time, and the owner had been wanting to get rid of it. He had accepted the Marquess' first offer without any real fuss, a rather generous offer if the masked human had to say. Enough for the owner to start something for himself, but so that the Marquess had more than enough to furnish the place.
He was accompanied by two of his guards, plus the brenchian secretary Kireem. It didn't seem like much security was required. After all, this was simply checking out some new property. They were here to look the place over, and see what was needed, and to begin planning out what renovations were required. And unfortunately, it looked like there would be a lot needed to be done. The framework of the building was fine, so nothing needing to be done there. But the walls, the floors, ceilings, all needed a touch up. Not to mention the furniture, as well as the necessities for a gambling establishment. It would easily take the rest of what The Marquess had acquired from the Cold Front, as well as some of his own finances.
Kireem wrinkled her nose at the sight of the place. "Are you sure about this sir?" she asked, turning to her boss, "It's gonna take a lot out of us just to get this place up and running. And then there's the people we need to hire." The Marquess didn't seem the least bit bothered, waving away her concerns dismissively. "Don't worry about it. It'll cost a fair bit, certainly, but think of the profits we'll make off of this place. There aren't any places like this in the area, so we wont have to deal with any competition. Besides, it would provide a steady stream of income. We'll at least have this to fall back on if anything goes wrong in our operations." Kireem merely nodded, able to see her boss' logic.
It was at that point something could be heard outside. The sound of vehicles pulling up. One of the Marquess' guards, the zoon-seijin, moved over to one of the boarded up windows to see what was going on. "Erm, boss?" he spoke up, "We have a problem." The Marquess glanced back at him. "What sort of problem?" He didn't really need to ask, if it fairly obvious. "Erm, the Cold Front kind." Ok, so maybe not that obvious. The Marquess sighed in irritation. "I thought they were all done once I killed their boss." "Well, apparently some of the leftovers have a bone to pick with you sir."
Well, this was certainly irritating. Being attacked by a rival gang was one thing, but to be attacked by the dying remnants of one he effectively destroyed? The fact that they were grossly out-manned didn't help the situation. Fortunately, there was plenty of cover for them to hide behind. And it was painfully obvious which door they were planning on going through. Take your positions. Kireem, head into one of the back rooms and stay in there until it's safe to come out!" The brenchian nodded and quickly retreated from the room, while the Marquess and his two guards began taking cover behind some of the old and rusted slot machines. Weapons ready, they kept their eyes on the main doors, able to see the silhouettes of the goons outside.
Suddenly, without any fanfare, the pair of double doors was kicked open, revealing a small squadron of armed goons on the other side. Without even waiting, The Marquess and his goons opened fire. Not expecting to be attacked the instant they came in, as few of the goons were blindsided by the attack, instantly crumpling to the floor. The rest quickly backed up, moving to either side of the door and shooting behind cover. The firefight came in full swing, both sides shooting at eachother from behind cover. "Try not to blast out the walls," The Marquess yelled out over the din, "I don't want to have to spend too much repairing this place!"
With the door the only way in, the attacking goons were effectively blocked out, unable to get in to properly surround them. Frustrated, a couple of them broke off, running around the building to try and find a back door to get in. Sure enough, they found the service entrance to the building, unlocked since the building was still essentially a rusted shell. With the others effectively drawing the Marquess' attention to the entrance, a sneak attack on the three should easily end the fight.
Well, it would have if it weren't a certain brenchian secretary who had been hiding in the back, and had seen the goons coming around for a surprise attack.
Kireem poked her head out from one of the doors, into the firefight that was going on. "Boss! We got some guys coming around from behin-YIPE!" she yelled out, dodging a laser that hit the wall just next to her head.
