Maka Otohi was born on Earth and was abandoned at a orphanage, where she was adopted by a family of nurses and doctors. The family kept her protected from the outside for the most of her childhood by her adoptive parents, Panta and Coatella. Because she was kept under protection by her parents, she started showing signs of shyness at young ages and has also wanted to travel out of her adoptive family's house. Eventually, after her 16th birthday, Maka was finally allowed out of her own room, and she could finally traverse her house, though she had to use a big water bowl with wheels for travel so she wouldn't die of dehydration.
Now free to the entire house, Maka was about to travel the world to see what she was missing, but unfortunately her family wanted her to follow the path of becoming a doctor like Panta and Coatella. She was enrolled into a high school in West Capitol, where she was made to learn among others, despite her shyness getting in the way of making friends. While Maka only was able to make one friend in a Majin named Alirre, she was able to get straight As and eventually graduate early shortly after her 17th birthday.
Even though Maka was able to graduate, her family was still not done with her learning, and they made her go to a university to continue studying health. At this point, Maka could barely take having to listen to her adoptive parents anymore, and after getting her degree as a doctor she ran away from her home. As she started living by herself, she had support by her friend Alirre, until a car accident occured which caused her friend to end up in a coma. After the incident, Maka decided to try to find a way to bring her out of her coma, and she tried to search around for ways to remove comas.
Years later, on her 25th birthday, Maka found a really old document while reading on comas in a library, which was about the Planet Namek, and it's inhabitants. Upon reading the book, Maka heard about the Namekian's ability to heal, which interested her and amazed her. If she could learn how to heal, she could go back to heal Alirre, and possibly bring the Majin out of her coma! Because of this, Maka went to buy a used Pod to fly to Namek so she could try to learn how to heal.
As Maka landed her pod on the Ajissa Mainlands in Namek, she saw a large and foreboding castle nearby. Assuming the castle was owned by the Elder Guru, Maka started moving herself and her water bowl toward the castle, unaware of who really owned it...

Wave Shell [N1]: Maka can create a small barrier made of water-like Ki to surround herself in a pinch. With this technique, Maka can protect herself with a barrier to protect herself from attacks. (Charges at 33% per turn, any damage that bleeds through the barrier will be halved.)

Water Image [UT1]: Maka can manipulate water to form a small non-combat body double anywhere on the planet she is on, allowing her to communicate and slightly interact with others on the same planet she is on. (Mechanically, this technique is basically a unique version of Telepathy for Maka.)
Energy Sensing [UT]: Maka has learned to sense Ki and can sense the powers in other people. With this she can see the powers of other beings, though she cannot see the strengths of Androids.
