And they were off. Vennel followed after the demon as he lead her through the lobby. She had caught his expression, one which was tinged with the fluster from before, but it seemed to calm itself. She’d never seen that in a male before and she found it rather humorous. Something to be teased for sure.
Taking a seat at the booth that she was shown to, she set down and relaxed in the cushioned seat and listened to what Alaistair had to say. He offered her to take a snap shot with her scouter, at the finished written documentation. She wasn’t really used to dealing with this sort of thing, even in her short time on the throne before, she had left the documentation to Icarus and the rest of the supporting staff more aptly suited for such tasks.
The warrior’s untrained legal eye watched as the man set about writing the document in the dirtling common tongue, which made her wonder if he were perhaps from that world. Or perhaps he’d just spent a majority of his time on planet dirt. Either way, she could read most of it, and what she didn’t understand, her scouter was quick to translate for her.
But when the final clause was about to be written, Vennel noticed him pause. He looked up to her and her eyebrow cocked itself up in curiosity. He wanted to propose she join his “group,” nebulously stated as not so much a formal alliance as a handful of people with a singular purpose in mind. That purpose being the unification of the universe under a single banner. The idea itself left a sour taste in her mouth and she had to shake her head in response.
“I’m afraid I can’t be involved in such a grand scheme. Though, I do admire the ambition behind it. As you very well know, I’m a saiyan. And we saiyans enjoy our combat, war, and bloodshed. A unified universe doesn’t really leave much room for that. You can count on me to help you win over Konats, but the promise of an end to war- an end to great battles…”
Her voice trailed off for a moment. The prospect of the fights that would ensue in pursuant to that goal were tantalizing. But they meant that, if successful, the universe would all be at peace. And peace lead to stagnant life styles for her people. They worked best with a great adversary to overcome, not by being complacent. As she formed her thoughts, she began to speak once more.
“The best I could probably offer you is that should- no, when I return to the throne, my people can fight alongside you in battles worthy of us. But aside from that, I can’t see the merits in total unification.”
She didn’t feel the need to extrapolate further. The implications were enough as they stood. She would work with and alongside Alaistair, but if his goals came too close to fruition, the only last challenge for her people would be Alaistair and his crusade. She hoped he wouldn’t be too cross with her for this, after all, she did legitimately enjoy the man’s company. But it was just in her blood, her pride wouldn’t let her follow the full extent of her host’s plan.
