White Dove High School - Friday Afternoon
Gira sat at her seat in her English class, twirling her pencil around as she listened to her teacher's lecture and took notes. "God, this class is always so boring. Synonyms, antonyms, acronyms, whatever-yms. It's all so pointless. When will we ever use this stuff? I mean, seriously." Kaci whispered to Gira. The Half-Saiyan smiled and shrugged.
"It is what you make it, Kaci. Attitude has a lot to do with it." The blonde next to her sputtered and slouched over in her seat, doodling on the sheet of paper meant to contain her notes. Gira chuckled at Kaci and went back to her own work. Kaci had been Gira's best friend since Kindergarten. The two were inseparable ever since. Of the two, Kaci was definitely always considered the "hot" one. She was a little taller than Gira, blonde with hair like satin, she had flawless skin, soft as the day she was born, and a perfectly proportional face with eyes like flawless rubies. Gira was rather plain by comparison. It never really bothered her though. Gira was more interested in her boxing, track, her studies, and her heroic extracurricular activities than in boys. Being the Watcher of West City on top of all of her other responsibilities was more difficult than she thought. She had already been doing it for a month and she was already to the point where she hardly had the energy to do anything but go to school, fight crime, play sports, then collapse into bed. About the time Gira began rethinking the whole superhero thing, she looked out the window to see eight police cars going down the street outside at full speed. Something big was going down. "Um... ma'am?" Gira raised her hand. "May I go to the bathroom, please?" The teacher seemed slightly annoyed by the interruption, but after a couple of seconds, she let out a heavy sigh.
"Fine. You're dismissed." She said, shutting her assignment book. Gira stood up and bowed gratefully.
"Thank you." The black-haired girl straightened up and rushed out of the room. Gira ran down the hall and immediately to her locker, grabbing her bag and retreating out of a side door and hiding behind the dumpster to change. In thirty seconds, she came out as The Watcher of West City. Gira nodded in determination and hid her clothes under the giant blue receptacle before flying off as fast as she could. By the time she arrived on the scene, the police had already surrounded the source of the disturbance; West Capitol Bank. Gira observed the scene from above, looking for a good entry point away from all the police. It didn't take her long to find it. The bank had a very large skylight on the roof. Through it she could easily see six masked men, all of which were carrying some kind of pump action shotgun. Wasting no time, Gira dived through the skylight, landing on one of the men. The man let out a high-pitched squeal and dropped his shotgun. It slid across the floor about five feet away. Gira took a second to assess the situation. She had taken one of the robbers out, but there were still five more. One was at the teller's counter. It appeared that he was the one who was collecting the money while the others stood guard. One of the two remaining men had a hostage close enough to him where Gira ruled out the posibility of using her Watcher Cannon. The likelihood was too high that this innocent person would get caught in the blast. The other man was near the doors, waving his weapon at a group of hostages when Gira came crashing through the roof. The final two robbers were making their way to the vault and ran when Gira showed up. Just as Gira finished assessing her circumstances, the man next to the doors looked at her in shock.
"W-What the hell!?" The short, chubby man raised his shotgun and pumped it, but before he could aim or get a shot off, Gira raised her arm, her palm pointing in his direction. Without warning, the pint-sized superhero shouted "Watcher Cannon!" A blue sphere of light about the size of a basketball appeared in front of her palm, then with one palm thrust in the man's direction, Gira fired off her attack. The blue ki sphere struck the man square in the chest, causing him to fire a shot into the ceiling before dropping his shotgun and flying back several feet, crashing right through the doors. Gira pumped her fist in celebration, but turned towards the other robbers after she remembered why she was there.
"Criminals, your time is up! Cease this mischief and turn yourselves in or we're going to have to do this the hard way." Gira tried her best to sound smooth and heroic, much like the Great Saiyaman in his movies. Her calls for surrender fell on deaf ears, it seemed. These men had no idea what they were dealing with. The robber with a hostage near him grabbed the poor woman by the collar, using her as a human shield.
"Listen here, hero! You make one more move and i'll blow her damn head off!" To prove he was serious, the bank robber poked the barrel of his shotgun into the side of the woman's head, eliciting a fearful sob from the hostage. Gira growled in frustration and looked around. There was still one other man up, including the one with the hostage. It was going to be tricky, but she had to try...
"Using an innocent person as a shield is one of the lowest things someone can do." Gira said to the man. Just as he opened his mouth to retort, Gira dashed behind him so quickly, he didn't have a chance to react. As the criminal turned his head to look behind him, he heard the last words he would hear as a free man.
"Watcher Kick!" Gira lunged forward and planted her foot right in his back. The guy's eyes went white and he gasped in pain and surprise before flying across the room and crashing into the counter before falling to the floor, out cold. Then, quick as the quickest gun in the West, Gira fired off another Watcher Cannon at the robber near the counter, sending him flying over the counter and crashing into the stone wall. Gira looked back and checked on the hostage the other man threatened. The woman was still in shock and was rather frightened, but she looked okay. Once she pulled herself together, the hostage looked at Gira in fear, then admiration.
"You saved me... bless you..." The woman fell to her knees due to the intense amount of emotional exhaustion she suffered from due to her ordeal. Gira narrowed her eyes towards the vault in determination. She wasn't done yet. The white-clad hero dashed down the long hallway, all the way down a spiral staircase to the basement, which was where the bank vault was. By the time Gira got down there, the two robbers had already taken the bank's owner hostage. They were currently trying to strong-arm him into opening the vault. As soon as the bigger of the two men threw a punch at the formally dressed man, Gira put herself in the path of the attack and caught the man's fist.
"It is not nice to pick on those smaller than you." Gira never broke character for a second. "Why don't you try someone your own size?" With that, the 5'3" teenage girl lifted the 6'8" muscle-bound grown man off the ground and threw him straight up in the air, letting him hit the ceiling above. Gira caught the man in her arms as he fell. He was out cold. She dropped him and faced her final opponent, imposing herself between him and the bank's owner.
"It is over, evildoer! Submit to justice or you will be forced to submit!" Gira struck a cool pose. The criminal looked furious at this point.
"I can't believe the men I hired would be so inept as to lose to some clown in a thrift store superhero costume. Well, you know what they say. If you want something done right, do it yoursel--!" Before he could draw the revolver at his hip and fire, Gira landed a heavy punch to the man's stomach. He made a few strange gagging noises before falling over. The girl wiped the sweat from her brow before turning to the bank's owner.
"Are you alright, sir?" The suited man adjusted his glasses, looking down at the robber writhing in pain on the floor before giving Gira a nod.
"Yes, I think i'll be okay now. My word, you... you saved me. You're a hero! I must reward you." The bank owner dug in his pocket for his checkbook, but Gira waved him off.
"That won't be necessary. Justice has been served. That should be enough for any hero." Gira looked back at the last robber she took out. He was trying to get up, but failing miserably. He looked at her with fear in his eyes.
"Who? Who are you?" He rasped out. Gira narrowed her eyes at him.
"I am the nightmare of all who would commit evil. I am one who gives hope to the hopeless, an ally of justice. But you can call me The Watcher." As she spouted her speech, Gira tested out some of the new poses she thought up. They were hit and miss for the most part. She needed practice. Still, she silently praised herself for the cool superhero line. Gira escorted the bank's owner upstairs, where the police had already shown up and started to escort the hostages out. They saw Gira and noticed her from when she was fighting a few moments ago.
"Hey, miss! Stop there!" The officer tried to stop her, but no regular human can catch Gira when she doesn't want to be caught. She flew straight up, back through the skylight and began making her way back to school. she glanced at her watch, then promptly screamed in terror. She had been gone for 45 minutes. Class was out already. Before making sure she wasn't followed, she went behind the dumpster again and changed back into her uniform. Gira looked down at her hands They were still trembling from the adrenaline. She clenched her fists, then giggled with glee. The doubts that surfaced were gone.
"I hope I don't get into too much trouble." With that, she grabbed her bag and walked to her and Kaci's meeting spot; the soccer field. Gira's friend was already there by the time she made it. The black-haired girl waved nervously before taking a seat next to her friend. "Hey, sorry i'm late. Duty called."
"I noticed." Kaci grinned and stretched, almost leaning completely back. "So, what was going on? Did you foil an evil mastermind bent on taking over the world?"
"Not nearly as glamorous." Gira chuckled. "Just a few bank robbers. I took care of them without incident. No one was hurt, thankfully."
"Atta girl. You make me proud. All that time I spent looking for those things for your costume was worth it, it seems." Kaci grabbed her bag and stood up. "Well, I gotta head on home. I'm going to be late as it is since someone kept me waiting." She smirked jokingly at Gira.
"Jeez, how many times do I have to say sorry?" Gira crossed her arms and pretended to give Kaci an annoyed look. In response, Kaci punched Gira playfully on the shoulder.
"At least once more, girl. At least once more. Well, see ya tomorrow." With a small wave, the blonde turned around and began walking home.
"See ya." Gira waved back and sat on the grass, waiting for her mom to pick her up. Today was certainly interesting. She hoped her mom wouldn't hear about her skipping class though...
