Cipher silently hovered in the air, the numerous islands of the South below him. He had been there for some time, his body numb, his mind almost frozen.
Tekuma was dead.
The girl hadn't been a member of his family for long, but her loss was like a stab to the heart. He had learned oh her death when the computers informed him that she had ceased to function. Recieving her weights and a message of her demise hammered it home. To top it off, apparently the incident that had killed her had resulted in the death of a boy Charlene and Porsalynne knew.
Both of them had been devestated. Porsalynne retreated to their room to cry, while Charlene had gone quiet. Any sense of life in the girl had vanished. And Cipher couldn't blame any of them.
Cipher could however blame himself.
He should have been there. He should have done something to stop this. She was his adopted daughter for crying out loud! Instead, he simply stood by while she was murdered, her and that innocent child as well. Sure, Vipoi and Zucceta were on the scene, and most likely dealt with the one responsible, but that wouldn't bring them back! As far as Cipher was concerned, he had failed.
"For years I was alone..."
Ever since his creation, when Doctor Gackt rejected him. He had wandered this world, alone, uncared for. At the time, he didn't seem to mind. His mind hadn't properly adjusted to emotions yet, so mechanical. Yet at the same time, realizing how lonely he was.
Then, it all changed. First being taken in by the Blue Banner Army. Then finding and reviving Porsalynne. Then the adoption of both Charlene and Tekuma.
"...And when I'm finally saved from that loneliness, I'm unable to do anything to protect them..."
His mind flashed back, remembering Porsalynne's near death, attacked by suicide bombers. Seeing her lying there in that coma. The pain of almost losing the woman he loved. Then there was Vipoi's descent into madness. Cipher had tried to reason with everyone, to convince them to try and save Vipoi rather than destroy him. Instead, it took Zucceta's own declaration of way for them to not completely obliterate him. Any what of all the people who had been killed in those incidents? Cipher considered himself a guardian of life, and yet it had just been failure after failure.
And now this. The death of his own daughter. Not a near death, but an actual death.
Cipher looked down at his hands. The hands of a failure.
"...In this state, I'm powerless. Doomed to keep failing over and over again. Lacking the power to make any difference..."
There were those stronger than him, but in the end, could he really rely on them? Zucceta claimed she was peaceful now, but Cipher knew her interests lied with her own people. The Saiyan Empire was her first and foremost.
Then there was Vipoi. He wished to defend this world, but was that really his goal? As a purely mechanical android, Vipoi seemed somewhat detached from humanity. Did Vipoi feel any pain from loss or anything? Cipher wouldn't have questioned this in the beginning, but now, he wasn't so sure.
There was Walker, but Walker had been willing to go to some pretty extreme lengths. I mean, wiping out an entire planet? Cipher could feel something raging inside the once peaceful tree man, and to be honest, it somewhat frightened him.
Finally, there was Bing. The Kami of Earth. The man who had run off to another world, gotten himself killed, and then became Zucceta's servant. And if the Saiyan Queen's word could be trusted, he did so WILLINGLY.
No...in the end, Cipher couldn't rely on any of them.
"...I need that power..."
Suddenly, Cipher threw his head back, his next words roaring out like a king challenging the gods themselves.
"I WILL HAVE THAT POWER!!"
Suddenly, Cipher's power flared. A bright Halo of green. Below him, one of the islands (thankfully uninhabited) began to crumble, being torn apart by the surge of power. The earth trembled, the waves rose and crashed. Power surged through Cipher as his rage reached a break point. Through the maelstrom of energy, Cipher's eyes flashed from green to purple, for a brief moment his hair going from pitch black to a blinding white.
Below, the island completely crumbled, caving in under the enormous pressure, leaving a hole in the ocean as the water poured in. After a moment, the storm of energy subsided. Cipher's arms slowly fell to his sides, his body back to its normal state. Cipher didn't even realize the brief change he went through, and honestly, he didn't care. Right now, he knew what he had to do. And just where to do it.
Porsalynne sat on her bed in her room, her arms wrapped tightly around Charlene who had been sobbing in her arms. The girl at first had been silent when she learned of Tekuma's death, but later came in and just started crying. It took all of Porsalynne's strength not to cry along with her and instead comfort the girl. During their short time, Charlene had gotten close to her older sister.
Then the door slowly opened. Both sets of eyes turned to see Cipher standing in the doorway, his face completely blank. Slowly, the android stepped in, walking towards them.
"Cipher..." Porsalynne spoke up. Though his face was plain, she could sense the pain he was in due to their connection. But now, she could also feel a strong determination, one that made her curious. Cipher gently extended a hand to her. "We need to go."
Charlene sniffled as she looked up at her father. "G-Go where?"
Cipher looked down into his daughter's eyes, a small smile appearing on his pale face. "To fix all of this."
Nobody noticed when the Pale Rider took off from the base, heading out into orbit.
