Hey, I'm making a PSA because I'm honestly pissed off by what I feel are a lot of ungrateful attitudes and/or people who seem to be explicitly annoyed at me for some vague reasons this past couple of weeks. I've been feeling a lot of "anti-mod" sensibility recently (or, perhaps, it is literally just anti-therevolution sensibility) and honestly its the most infuriating thing in the galaxy but okay here we go.
Part 1) "Uniqueness" and character
A lot of you want your character to be unique. There is nothing wrong with this notion on paper. However, the failure, when I see it, comes in practice. A lot of people want this uniqueness to stem from physical traits rather than interesting personal pathos.
There's nothing wrong with physical traits to amplify a character. Zucceta's robotic arm, for instance, although that was gained through an organic RP process rather than as a pre-planned thing. However, before I had a solid physical idea of Zucceta's appearance I had a personality and reasons for that personality. This is where the strength of any fictional writing comes from--interiority of character and demonstrations of said character.
2) The 'thesis' for WoD: Souls
World of Dragon Ball: Souls is a site that aims to adhere to what we know from the Dragon Ball canon as much as possible, as well as what can be inferred from relevant non-canon Dragon Ball sources. This means that Saiyans have dark-brown to black hair colours and rapidly physically age during their later years, but retain in youth much longer. It means that Namekians are all masculine, green and slug-like (and will hence never grow feathery wings). Inferring from relevant materials we can establish that Arcosians are not gendered as we know them, but due to the mix of evidence we allow for masculine and feminine adjectives and traits to be applied to this particular race.
The World of Dragon Ball forums (and Souls in particular) came about due to a lack of Dragon Ball forums that I, personally, felt a desire to roleplay on. They all had glaring non-canon elements, or a lack of understanding of what made Dragon Ball interesting.
These WoD forums started as a personal vision and ended up incorporating the visions of others, but are united in wanting to make a cohesive, entertaining narrative experience--before anything else.
Hence, if I (or my selected moderators) see something that seems to go against the grain of Dragon Ball, tonally, it will most often be denied.
If I don't want to roleplay on my own site, it means I've failed my intention.
3) How Proboards works
Now, with all this said, I have one final subtly passive-aggressive statement to make.
Proboards is a free forum-hosting service. It can operate this way due to the revenue from advertisements (presumably).
If you dislike this site's basic intentions or the way things are run, there is literally nothing to stop you from scrolling down and clicking on the ProBoards button at the bottom of the page, or typing it into the URL above, or into google. Hell, I'll give you the link. www.proboards.com/
it takes about two minutes to generate a forum. It takes far longer to make one, and longer still to make one worth a look--like this one.
If it were any other site, a lot of people would be banned for speaking to the staff team in the manner that a lot of you have done so recently (and, tbh, I'm particularly feeling picked on personally for adhering to my own standard of quality for a site I explicitly created). In future, I'm probably not going to be as lenient with the rules I've designated.
If you retain an aggressiveness towards me towards debating a suggestion, or denying something on the grounds I've said above--go make your own forum.
If you don't like Souls, go make your own forum.
Provided you don't plagiarise or underhandedly steal members (as described in the rules), you can EVEN advertise it here.
PS: Staff members acting in ways they are supposed to is not a power trip. I get equally pissed off for needing to even enact rules. But it's sometimes necessary, and you should know that.
