[Thread PL: 5700] The Diablo Desert. Sei, the neutral android, had a couple of records on the location in the Southern Islands. A few indicated that there were many mysterious objects and as well as places hidden in the desert and that you could only find them based on luck. He also had some reports pulled up in his processor that claimed that if there would be any sort of skeptical objects or places, that they would be found deep in the cracks of the desert. He had already been on his way from another desert that had promises of answers and mystery. The truth, of course, being that the beings, whether human or not, had provided an interesting albeit indirect answer to one that the android had been looking for. The poor human that happened to tag along with him had met with a terrible fate as well, possibly indirectly caused by Sei. Looking back on things, that entire scenario was very indirect to many things proportional to my life. I wonder if that correlates to anything factual or if it was just by random chance.
Sei wondered about a couple things that occurred during his last mission. His possibly never ending quest would be taking him to another desert, seeking the same answer. What is the meaning of life?
The young android certainly hoped this place would give him a definite answer to that so he could finally just go back home and stay in his cave, waiting for the day his creator returned. Maybe if he found an answer, he could fix everything in his own life. Once Sei reached the desert, he scanned the area immediately for anything out of the usual. There weren't any supernatural readings or anything of the like, but their were a few power levels of respectable standing in the vicinity. Perhaps they search for the same thing I do. Remember what the doctor always said, two heads are better than a singular one. Flying at a reasonable pace, Sei decided he would try to find the one closest to him. If they looked together at their levels, finding something in this barren wasteland of a desert might be possible after all. @katsu Puery

[Thread PL: PL: 8,079] Puery has been out in the desert for a... 'spiritual quest', one might be inclined to call it. But it wasn't really for that. The desert was pretty barren, save the few strangers that came out here to train or were in search of some lost treasures. Puery herself originally came out here to think, read some of the books in her possession, and simply figure herself out.
Then she started running into old ruins. Nothing substantial, all of them picked away at by bandits and archaeologist, but they started to become an interest to her. Looking into the homes built by people long ago, even when some desert wanderer took shelter within them not-so-long ago.
As she flew over the area now, she kept her eyes peeled for any old-looking shelters. It would be good to restock her supplies in an area with inhabitants, but for now, she feels like she's okay for another ruins search slash expedition with what she has now.

It was amazing what one could find from looking through the ancient past. It was also a sobering reality when you realized that the only reason you could learn from the ancient past is because knowledge had been acquired and then subsequently lost, taking ages to eventually become known once more. Katsu was saddened by this reality. You always had to move forward, and to think that again and again history repeated itself with the destruction of knowledge in an almost cyclical manner. Katsu hoped that one day he would reach a point where that would cease to be, by his own hand.
Anyway! Katsu was out in the Diablo Desert, a place known for its morbidly hot climate, bandits, and strange rock formations that dotted the landscape. It had come to his attention that there was new tomb rumored to be discovered out in the desert. A wandering traveler had stumbled upon it after being stranded in the desert by one of the bandit groups. The tomb apparently was part of a village or town of some sort, because there was ancient houses and a well, saving the travelers life from dying of thirst. Managing to return to civilization alive the traveler had drew Katsu's interest with his story, and after interviewing them Katsu managed to get a rough location of the tomb.
Having headed out with some supplies Katsu had been wandering the coordinates for several hours, and was disappointed thus far in his endeavor to find the tomb. The knowledge he had hoped to find here was two-fold, one being the recorded data of the people who built the tomb and hopefully a tissue sample of any corpses that might have been found within for his personal research. Yet if it his results kept on as they had thus far Katsu was going to have to call it a day soon and move on to hopefully more fruitful expeditions...
Until his Scouter suddenly piped up. Tapping the holographic display put forth by his contact lens Scouter Katsu identified a nearby Artificial Ki source rating somewhere close to 6,000 units, while at the same time Katsu personally felt a living person with a rating somewhere closer to 8,000 units. Was there already an expedition team at the ruins? Katsu wasn't sure, but he felt the need to investigate as it was his best lead thus far, and Katsu flew across the sands of the desert just an inch above the surface, telekinetically levitating at high speeds, his labcoat flapping in the wind as he moved towards the only possible people he had come across so far...

As the android flew, he began to catch up to one of the two other power sources. This one was rated at 8,079 and appeared to be flying across the desert as well.
As he caught up, looking down he noticed some very old ruins. His records indicated that a group of people used to live in the vicinity, but they all mysteriously vanished around 50 or so years ago. There was nothing in the records that pointed to supernatural reasons, but after his last adventure, Sei wouldn't be crossing that possibility off the list.
Something like this...I wonder if these people discovered something about this wasteland that they should not have. It appears that there is more than just one desert that will punish those within for discovering secrets.
Sei's last journey had him go to a mysterious door in the middle of another desert which led to a palace in which he had to deal with a multitude of supernatural puzzles and even battles. Fighting wasn't something that the android was particularly happy about or even proficient in, but the people he had met in the palace wouldn't have it any other way. Sometimes, even an android couldn't talk his way out of a fight.
Now in his enhanced vision, he could clearly see some kind of creature flying above him and the ruins. He would get their attention first and then proceed to find the other person that had been logged with his scanner. Flying as fast as he could, he would reach the creature that was flying above him. A few moments later, it would be well within his sight and he could see what it was.
Appears to be some kind of Fox Zoanthrope, brown and white in color. Its body type would suggest this is a female fox, take care to acknowledge that fact. Appears to have some knowledge of the area, ask questions. Lastly, our final question- ask it when ready.
Sei would open his mouth to give some sort of indication to stop. He wasn't sure whether the being could feel his energy, as apparently many biological creatures could not.
"Hail, fox. I hope to speak with you about this desert. My name is Sei and I am investigating this desert for knowledge and answers to questions I have about life. Would you be inclined to join me?"
The young android could definitely work on his speech pattern as his idea of diplomacy was a far different voice than what he would usually have to speak. If the fox would choose to accompany him, he would take it as a sign of mutual agreement. Sei was still keeping track of the power source that approached the both of them as it was getting closer, but in the event that they were looking for a fight, the android just increased his odds of not having to fight as long.
"I will say that there appears to be another being approaching us, and in the case he isn't friendly, he have each other to fight with."
The android had planned for that to be enough to gain this comrade.

Puery had been moving in the direction of the 12k power level, not to see who it was, but to see if they ran into anything that would interest her. She's done this a few times, more often than not it was just another desert wanderer, but a few times that had led to some interesting encounters. She didn't realize an android was near her until she heard him hail her.
She didn't realize people still 'hailed' each other. Normally they just shouted 'Hey!' Or 'Stop!', in her experience at least. Hovering in the air, she looked towards him as he continued to speak and the person she was fly towards was now flying to them. Puery thought to herself, 'If this is a trap, I'm going to stab someone'.
But despite her better judgement, she shrugged "I don't know what this place could tell you, but sure. I'm Puery."
She looked in the direction the other person was coming from a nodded, "Well, having some backup is always a good idea in these situations." And if this is a bandit trap, there's no reason she can't run. Unless they're both suppressing their power levels, then she's in trouble. She didn't tend to trust strangers while in a strange place herself.

Katsu put a hand to his chin as he continued to zoom across the sands. It seemed like the Android and the other person had met up directly now. Well, it was no matter. Katsu wasn't really one to fight and he was still sure he could handle himself well enough to at the very least escape if things went South. At the very least neither of the two he was approaching were raising their Ki in any manner. The likelihood of them being part of some expedition raised in Katsu's mind. In fact as Katsu approached them he realized that they had managed to find the town around the tomb he had been searching for! Well at least they had managed to complete for Katsu what he had been failing to do all day.
Of course when Katsu approached them he literally skidded to a halt nearby, dusting the sand from his labcoat as he looked around the area, noting the architecture of the surrounding buildings. Turning back to the other two Katsu would give them something between a salute and a wave with his left hand, “Yo! Oh, hey, you don't look like you're part of an archaeological expedition. You don't look much like bandits though either. Ah well.
“Anyway I'm Dr. Katsu Yuda. Seen any sort of tomb in the area here, I'm told there's one nearby, newly rediscovered. Might be able to find some interesting artifacts, maybe a mummy or two.” Katsu would speak in an outgoing and non-threatening manner, like just a guy out on a walk.

The fox didn't seem to sure of the situation, almost like they weren't sure of what could be found in this desert area.
So the fox wasn't actually here for any kind of expedition, but perhaps rather a stroll around these desert sands?
In simpler days, Sei would actually do the same. He would stroll around the world in different areas without much concern, but now he had a specific mission in mind. He had to find the meaning of life and that is what he was going to do.
The fox gave it's name, Puery, and decided that the two could work together on the basis of it being a better idea then working alone.
"Yes, as they say, two mind working together are better than a single mind working alone."
Due to the rising number of bandits in the area, having another person around was always beneficial. They wouldn't stay with just the two of them, however. A lab coat attached to a person would come flying in, skidding across the sand as he did. Once stopped, he spoke to them in a very non threatening manner. He explained his name and that he was looking for the same thing that Sei was keeping several scanners out for.
"Yes, hello Dr. Katsu Yuda. I am also looking for the tomb in which you speak. I believe it may hold some answers to questions I've been asking myself for a while now. This village was said to be near the tomb itself, but we have yet to find it. Logic dictates it would be somewhere in the area, and my scanners have picked up readings but they are underground. Perhaps we have yet to find the true entrance to the place we seek."
Sei got to the end of the speech before realizing he had yet to even introduce himself or his new companion.
"Ah, before I get, I am Sei, a mechanical android. This is Puery, the fox. We are also looking for the tomb, assuming that's alright with you Puery?"
Sei wouldn't wait very long for an answer before returning back to the main conversation at hand. Looking around the desert and the town, he noticed something odd about the center of town. It appeared that between the four obelisks there was a stone circle that was cut out from the stone square. It appeared that maybe you could go down through it to something, maybe whatever the town was hiding.
"I suggest that we head over to the town center and attempt something to allow the stone circle to bring us to the tomb we seek, if that is in fact the entrance that I believe it is. Dr. Yuda, won't you take a look at it?"
Sei didn't mean to not include Puery in the search idea, he just didn't want the fox to have to do more than necessary due to being dragged along. There was also the determinate of Sei having an unbelievable amount of faith in those with the epithet of "Doctor".

Puery looked towards the person approaching, relaxing a bit when she saw he didn't look like the raider type. Well, in his clothing at least. Really he looked more like one of the archaeologists from a dig site she flew over a few days ago. She returned his greeting with a slight wave from her own hand.
"You're right on both accounts about me. I'm just a traveler looking for a cool desert thing, or two. And like Sei said, I'm Puery." Manners dictated it would be rude to not introduce herself, even if someone else did it for her. This guy seemed non-threatening enough, at the very least nothing felt off about him, so she looked down at the city they were hovering over with an eyebrow perked, "Do you guys really think what you're looking for might be down there?" From her, rather limited, experience places like these were picked clean way before she got there.
She looked towards the andriod, then at the center of the abandoned city he was indicating towards. While she wasn't the best judge of character at the best of times, it was hard to turn down a treasure hunt. She thought it would be best to let the doctor check out the stone circle. Not because she thought it was a trap, but because she knew that if it was a puzzle she would be useless. "I don't know how much help I could be, but I wouldn't mind sticking around to see what's going to happen on this treasure hunt."

His attention drawn to the center of town by the address of the android Katsu peered at the architecture surrounding the apparent passageway down into the earth, immediately moving over to peer at the sides of the Obelisks, looking over the many many tiny glyphs that covered the surface of the stone pillars. Kneeling down Katsu made sure to look over the base as well, taking out his datapad in order to scan the writing. A benefit of working with the BBA was access to their public records which included things like translator programs and other useful information including known architecture of ancient civilizations.
Unfortunately it seemed that the while glyphs could be translated, and the architecture could be identified...neither of them fit together. They were from completely different civilizations that weren't even located on the same continent, and neither civilization was known to have settled in the Diablo Desert, but rather the Gizard Wastelands and the Fortuneteller's Desert. Blinking, Katsu stood up with his findings, “Wow this is weird. According to the BBA database this place shouldn't...really exist. The alphabet of the glyphs is from a civilization that was established in the Gizard Wastelands roughly 3,800 years ago. The architecture however is much like that from a civilization established in the Fortuneteller's Desert closer to 4,300 years ago. The former was called the Nisium Arcaneum while the latter was known as the Krethylf Communion. I'm still trying to find out more from the database, but so far the most interesting thing here is that these two cultures supposedly never traveled from their cities, both being very insular and almost xenophobic peoples.
“Either way according to the glyphs this central structure here is likely the town well, hence it's rather important place in the center of town... I'm still looking for more information, if you think we should head on down I'll follow along as I continue researching these two cultures, see if I can find out what to expect...” Katsu would indeed continue to look at his datapad even as he continued to speak, pressing buttons and pulling up new page after new page of information, the look on his face becoming more and more frustrated as he continued, apparently having some trouble finding the data he was looking for.

Sei would begin to walk alongside the Doctor as Puery flew down to meet both of them on the ground. As they walked along towards the center of town, the android would notice as the closer they got, more writing and symbols on the obelisks would appear. Despite the towns ravaged state, the stone statues leading into the sky were perfectly untouched, having only dealt with the inevitability of time itself.
Once they reached the center of town, the glyphs were much more visible and Sei could run a diagnosis on the symbols as well as the architecture. The information Sei was looking for had pulled up, but it was pointless to read as Doctor Yuda was already giving an explanation for what they were seeing exactly as the android had it pulled up. The glyphs being from one old civilization, and the obelisks from another, but known to never leave their respective cities. Although an answer, it only pulled up more questions that the undoubtedly the android and doctor would have. Looking over to the center of the square, the middle of the where the obelisks were as if they had drawn an invisible X, was the stair case. It would start in the dead center of the square and presumably go down into this unknown place, possibly the tomb that they had known about previous to coming here.
"There is the staircase that would lead us down. If you want to stick around up here Doctor, I have no problem with that. I would suggest you choose whomever you want to stay with Puery, but I will be going down the way now. Feel free to join me."
With that, Sei would begin to make his way over to the staircase. Standing at the top of it, he looked around to see the obelisks in the four corners of the square.
There had to have been a person who knew about this and journeyed along for at least myself and Yuda to have found out about this. I suppose our own plight will answer that question one way or the other.
Peering down the staircase, it was extremely dark leading down in. The android would switch his vision to that of night vision before continuing along. The entrance led straight down, and only once entered did it begin to curve into more of a spiral staircase. Walking along, Sei was now completely under the stone that had held him up and that presumably unless they came along, Yuda and Puery. Despite having the ability to fly, the android decided he would walk down, figuring it to be a more respectful thing to do.
After walking for some time, Sei decided to inspect the walls as he moved. There were ancient drawings on the walls, most depicting events through pictures through time. Although rather interesting, someone like Sei didn't have the capacity to assume anything about these kinds of hieroglyphics. It was all just writing of some events and there wouldn't be enough clear evidence that it pointed to anything in his mind.
Towards the end, there was a clear light that would brighten the view for everyone. Turning off his night vision, the android would slightly pick up the pace to reach the bottom where he could see clearly a giant tomb at the bottom of a craggy rock basin. It had ancient writing at the top of the tomb and a giant door in the center. Engaging the protocol in his system functions, Sei would make himself heavier.
Whatever there is inside, I should at least try for a workout. Besides, that is where we need to go, all of our answers are inside there.

Puery didn't have much of a clue about what Katsu was talking about. She never paid much attention older civilizations beyond their cultures and how they survived, and even that was more of a causal interest, so as soon as she learned about them she would forget the name and timeline the people were known as and existed in. She'd think of it as a bad habit if the more detailed aspects of history had a few more practical uses than figuring out whose house you're walking in.
But she had a vague idea of what he was going on about. Two different groups of people from two different civilizations had some weird amalgamation of both cultures, or at least their architecture and writing, a city located in an area they were never known to be in. Or something like that, she feels like her summary of it makes as much sense as she'll need to know, even if it's the wrong assumption to make while knowing absolutely nothing.
On the whole she decided to just stay quiet. She didn't have anything constructive to add, beyond stupid observations that can just as easily be kept in her head as said out loud, and stupid questions that she honestly didn't need answered because she'd probably forget those answers after this adventure was over.
Man, being a haplessly dull-witted tag a long sure is fun. Well, it's not like these two are forcing her to be there, it is her own choice.
With that thought, she dug a flashlight out of her supply bag and went to follow Sei. Only after turning it on did she realize the batteries needed to be changed, while the light wasn't flickering it wasn't casting enough to light the area beyond Sei's back. It was just enough to see, but not much more than that.
She squinted at the hieroglyphs as they passed by them, not able to make hide nor hair of it all. She couldn't help but wonder how any of these things were connected. Not the civilizations, but the two people looking around it. Sei looking for the meaning of life in some dusty old tomb and the doctor... well, he was looking for mummified remains so that did make some bit of sense.
Once the natural light allowed her to see unhindered, she turned off her flashlight and looked curiously towards the andriod. She was almost sure he did something, but wasn't sure what, so she just shrugged and moved towards the door, getting ready to open it and quickly move out of the way (Incase there was some kind of door-triggered trap) unless one of the others stopped her.

Still fiddling with his datapad Katsu would follow Sei and Puery down into the darkened tunnels, the light of his datapad more than enough for him to see the stairs in front of him as well as the walls nearby. Eyeing the glyphs and pictures on the walls Katsu turned his datapad to scan them as well, watching the translation program turn them from something Katsu couldn't understand to something that read like poetry. It was very fantastical story, given what Katsu was seeing.
“Perhaps not so surprisingly, these two civilizations had very little to do with each other as cultures. Their xenophobia and distrust of people were caused by their particular knowledge, which apparently was mystical in nature. The Nisium Arcaneum apparently had a form of runic magic, while the Krethylf were adept at Earth magic, perfect for shaping their architecture with precision and speed equatable to today's standards. According to the stories here though a small group of Nisium Adepts had a spell gone awry and ended up in the Krethylf's territory.
“Threatened with death from the locals they attempted to cast the spell again but in their haste forgot to designate a location for them to transfer themselves to. They, and the threatening Krethylf near them, found themselves half way across the planet from either of their civilizations. Both groups stranded they had to work together to stay alive in an unfamiliar place. They melded their mystical arts together out of necessity and eventually formed this town.” Katsu droned on just a little as he read out the results of his study.
History could certainly be a little dull, but at least it told Katsu what to expect in the area as well as why two such civilizations could have melded together so far from home. “The story seems...unfinished. There's nothing about some tomb or a place for the dead..” As the group descended further Katsu realized the glyphs suddenly stopped, right in the middle of a few new glyphs being written from the looks of it. At least the translation program could only identify them as resembling as unfinished glyph.
Putting his datapad away Katsu finally noticed how dark it was down here, and with a little concentration conjured up twelve little balls of light made from his Ki. Their ability to damage creatures would be pitiful, but they still shed an impressive amount of light, and Katsu could direct them as he wished, sending them forward down through the tunnel system, lighting up the crags and the tomb nestled in between them. Looking up at the sudden light from above Katsu noted that it appeared like sunlight, but in fact there was only a sandstone ceiling, the light apparently coming from nowhere.
Looking to the closed door Katsu would caution the other two, “I wouldn't open that without care. The people who made the town above...I doubt they made this tomb. I think they used this place as their well and stumbled upon an even older place. Look here, I can see where there used to be a spring, it looks like an earthquake rerouted it however, I can hear water running inside of this crack, but it's too far to get..” Katsu would approach a basin at one end of the chamber they had come to, kneeling down to peer at a crack in the wall, the area just a tad more moist than the rest of the place. Making a grabbing motion with his hand Katsu telekinetically grabbed a bucket's worth or so of water from the crack, peering at the water as it floated above his hand. His datapad came out to scan it, giving a high tone beeping noise, “This water appears safe to drink, if anyone is thirsty.” Taking a small globule from the main mass Katsu would raise it to his mouth to drink. He'd make a quick face, “Eugh. Tastes like its got clay in it.”

As the three would walk down the stairs, Katsu, the doctor, would give an analysis of the culture that the two civilizations had together and the one interaction that they could've had. Still not quite explaining what this tomb would be doing here, Sei was sure that they would find something extraordinary in here. It was only a matter of whether or not they could make it to the end, which seemed very plausible. If the three worked together and didn't betray anyone, the android could see this plan working together very well. In fact, he liked the odds of the entire situation.
The tomb was absolutely massive. Puery the fox and Katsu had followed semi closely on the way down, both of them having different methods of seeing through the pitch black darkness. Katsu's method seemed to be the clear smartest way to go, but Puery still tried to be self sufficient while using a flashlight to illuminate the darkness. Once the three of them had reached the bottom, Katsu explained that this place was most likely a spring at some point, and began to drink the water. To Sei, it appeared that the water probably wouldn't be best for drinking, but either way it was just a filled with a bit of clay. Katsu coughed a bit, commenting that Sei's suspicion was correct.
The door of the tomb was huge in terms of size, much bigger than any of them were, and that was only about as half as the entire structure was. It appeared to be a door that was opened through pushing in, which Sei began to do very carefully. At first, he used so little strength to the point where nothing was even moving, to eventually having the door inch forward. It was about two minutes, but eventually one of the sides of the door was fully opened. Having the tomb opened only actually invoked more questions out of the the young android as the inside was dark as well, begging the question of where the light could possibly be coming from. Switching back to night vision, Sei decided he needed to address the situation.
"Okay, so as of now we have opened the door to the tomb proving that the light isn't coming from inside. Any estimates where it might come from? My data doesn't show that there should be any sort of reason that this could happen, outside of the supernatural which I fear that we may be facing now. If either of you wish to not continue, now would be the best time to speak up."
