It is the next day following BREU’s regress to the West Capitol’s facilities. After getting done with his brief gravity training, the brewdroid went to his headquarters in order to lay low for a while.
Although he didn’t need to sleep the same amount of hours humans do, it is important to remember even the unlimited energy androids have semi-organic components due to the nature of the cellular bonding cybernetic enhancements and thus, still need to hydrate (BREU’s is done through the consumption of alcoholic drinks) and even age, although at a much slower rate. Therefore, BREU can reach a state homologous to the REM sleep where his semi-organic part undergoes auto-maintenance. There should be a couple of hours at most until morning and that was all he needed.
He “woke up” after a trance like state in which he underwent a meditative state to allow his ki to flow and grow stronger. The android slowly stood up, heading out of his room and out of the KAOS living quarters, in order to go look for Dr. Slouch again. He needed to replace that dedicated power cell or his bionic arm he ended up kludging after it got harmed during the battle against Raisu and Ken. The arm as a whole would need some repairing and upgrading as well; first, it wasn’t semi-organic as the rest of his body. It was fully robotic. Because of that, it would require constant maintenance. Second, twice now BREU had to choose between offense or defense due to how the fact he only had one energy absorber that was located in his left hand and due to how the Cosmopolitan Blade worked. As those who already fought or read BREU’s stories know, when he wants to use his sword, his entire arm transmutates into the weapon, something only possible due to the nature of his mechanical arm. However, he was given a single energy absorber, which is locate in the palm of BREU’s left hand. This means when BREU’s arm change into his weapon, he temporarily becomes unable to use the draining device and dues lose access to his main defensive skill. That way, he always had to choose between protection or damage. He wanted to circumvent that little weakness and began to wonder how the hell Dr. Slouch didn’t think of that in the first place. Perhaps now that over a month has passed since he was given those beta-test mark II absorbers, the scientists had already managed to perfect the technology and would be able to give BREU an advance prototype of the device. If anything, they could simply install a second absorber in the right hand, so he would have a means to protect himself, while still keeping his offensive edge.
Soon enough, BREU is in the labs, searching for the old man. He soon spots the older scientist’s assistant. Slouch is nowhere to be found, obviously; probably sleeping in his room while his subordinates do the heavy work of early morning.
– “Oh… BREU… It’s been sometime” – The youngster greets
– “Indeed. That’s why you’re not going to waste my time any longer and will go call that lazy ass Slouch here for me” – The imperative robot determines.
– “B-but the Doctor is still asleep in his quarters… he should be here in a few hours though…” – The young scientist justifies. BREU says nothing and just continuously stares at the boy’s eyes. Then it hit the assistant. He remembered the last episode when BREU wanted a personal maintenance from Dr. Slouch, leading the blue skinned alien to drag the human out of his bedroom in his pajamas when he refused to attend to the cyborg when he wanted. Figuring he wouldn’t have any quarrels about repeating the process, he rushes himself up:
– “I’m going to get him in a minute” – The boy affirms, leaving the robot behind who still doesn’t say anything, just happy that the youngster figured out it wasn’t a pretty please request.
In a few minutes, the youngster is at his boss’s door calling him form the intercom.
– “Dr. Slouch… are you awake?” – The boy interrogates.
– “You… why are you bothering me this time of the day?” – Dr. Slouch demands an explanation from his assistant, after a few instants of insistence of the boy in the intercom.
– “Uh… I’m sorry to bother sir… But BREU is here to see you” – The boy states.
– “Tell him I’m sleeping right now” – The scientist orders. About a minute of silence goes by without neither the assistant or his boss saying anything.
– “Hell… Tell him I’ll be there in a minute” – Slouch’s voice then come out of the interphone again, after he also remembers himself being dragged out of his bed after he refused to see BREU the last time. Not only he didn’t want to be embarrassed in front of his co-workers (last time it was dawn so there was no one around; the lab was full right now), as he also had just recently fixed his door after BREU blew it in order to get to him.
BREU was just sat down in a chair when Dr. Slouch came by, still adjusting his smock, showing he dressed up in quite a hurry.
– “BREU… what a ‘pleasure’” – He ironizes.
– “Spare me the subtleties, doc. I need a fix” – BREU explains, standing up.
– “What did you do to yourself this time” – Dr. Slouch inquires. Rather than responding with words, BREU gets to the lid that give acess to the power cell site in his left shoulder and opens it to remove the battery-like device. He throws it on then throws it on the ground, having the cylinder roll to the doctor’s feet, who proceeds to get down to pick it up and inspect the damage.
– “I need a new one” – BREU requests.
– “What the hell did you do here?” – The scientists says, apparently surprised. And not in a good way.
– “Beetroot damaged it. I jerry-rigged it” – He explains.
– “Jerry-rigged? I’m surprise you didn’t blow yourself up with this amateur work…” – The expert says without taking his eyes of the object.
– “…wait… you said a beetroot did this?” – Dr. Slouch then looks up as he finally processes what BREU said in the beginning of his line; the incongruence of the cyborgs words puzzles him.
– “Long story. Not in the mood to tell it right now. I want you to get me a new cell as well as fix this mechanical arm” – BREU responds, lifting the bionic limb to show the damage it took as well.
– “Good lord…” – The scientist complains.
– “Also, how is the progress with that old energy absorber proto you gave me?” – BREU inquires.
– “Well… we finished prototype two and actually managed to improve it’s efficiency. Mark three is already available but only a handful have been produced so far” – Dr. Slouc reports.
– “Very good. Then you’re going to take this obsolete thing from my hand and switch it for the new model. You’re also going to install an absorber in my right hand as well and review the architecture of the Cosmopolitan Blade” – BREU orders.
– “What? Are you insane? I would have to rework the model to have it added to your right arm, since it’s not completely mechanical. I don’t have the time to spare now to attend to your whims” – Dr. Slouch lets out in a fit of anger at his creation’s exigency.
You imagine those scenes where a character gives a penetrating gaze to another, with his eyes seemingly going white in color. That is the look BREU gave the Dr. A vein pops up in his forehead making his anger even more evident.
– “Heh… I’ve heard interesting things about the boss after he underwent his maintenance thing. I wonder how he will react when he is reported that his scientist is refusing to give his soldiers the assistance they require” – BREU threatens. A long sweat drop seems visible running down the man’s face, originating from his forehead.
– “I-I think Mr. Vi-Poi will be more irritated with you bothering with such minor issue and will have you reduced to scrap metal in the spot” – The frightened man answers, trying to not be intimidated by the cyborg’s words.
– “If you are willing to call the bluff… Well… not that I am bluffing, actually” – BREU turns around and begins to walk away. having it look like he was going to fulfill his promise. The android was about to cross the door when the scientist called out:
– “WAIT!” – BREU turns his head to look at the man over his shoulder. He waits for him to continue.
– “I… I think I can find a space in my schedule for your upgrade…” – The scientist continues looking down, as if ashamed of his own cowardice. This makes BREU smile in satisfaction.
– “Good. Very good. That’s why you’re my favorite, Doc” – BREU turns around and makes his way back towards doctor slouch.
He had long hours of upgrading to face now. Hopefully, all his disadvantages would be gone after Dr. Slouch had finished his work. Despite being a lazy ass, the man was undoubtedly a master of in his field of work.
