Name:Ryuku Obsidian.
Alias:None.
Species:Human.
Gender:Male.
Age:21.
Appearance:
Ryuku stands two inches over six feet and is two hundred and twenty pounds of muscle. He sports several scars from his training as a youth, the most prominent being a large diagonal scar from his right shoulder down to his opposite hip. What may be his most notable feature is his long platinum hair. His eyes are a vibrant forest green, full of life and curiosity.
His attire is a classic orange Gi adorned with black and white ying/yang symbols. He carries black meditation beads on his left side and two promise gems, one green and one blue, off his front right side. Oddly enough, Ryuku doesn't wear shoes and instead he keeps the bottom of his feet wrapped. Claiming that boots take awayfrom his fighting ability, which is likely true since he has never been seen wearing them.
History: Ryuku's earliest memories are of his life at the monastery working hard; toiling under the supervision of his masters, training, meditating and starting on that long path towards Oneness. Ryuku never had the opportunity to meet either of his parents. He, like others at the monastery had been brought to the small sect of monks that resided in the mountains of the Frozen North. For reasons unknown his parents had decided that their son would be better served by living with the monks than with them. It was not something he thought often about. This was his family, these were his brothers and sisters. He knew that he could not miss a life he never had.
Each day began early for the fledgling monk, he was always up before the sun, meditating in the cold harshness that was the north. He would watch the first rays of morning light peak over the horizon from the uncomfortable position of a stone pillar whe he would contemplate the stillness that each morning brought and reflect on the learnings of yesterday. After a couple of hours in the cold Ryuku and others would be brought inside for stretching to warm up their bodies so that the truly difficult training could begin.
After breakfast and stretching the young monks would be required to fetch water from a stream at the base of their mountain home. Traveling down them was always easier than traveling back up and early in his training what took thirty minutes to travel down took three times as long to come back up with buckets full of water, and that was assuming you did not slip and spill. There were many times when Ryuku would spill his own water, or when someone would stumble and cause several to drop their buckets.
As Ryuku got older he adapted and the training took less of a toll on his body, so his masters introduced weighted clothing. It was like starting all over again. Never one to quit Ryuku did as he was told and pressed on with his training. By the time he was ten years old he had surpassed his peers in terms of strength, speed and technique.
Because of his aptitude for the Martial Arts and the speed with which he learned and understood the wise Masters took Ryuku to the side and began the boy on a different training regiment. It was in all honesty, far harder an more brutal than anything he had undergone before. Their purpose was a simple one though, they would teach the young boy to harness and control his Ki. These were lessons that should have waited for several more years according to their scripture, but Ryuku proved to be an adequate student.
The training was not easy and Ryuku learned of Ki and of the many different applications it could have. Senior monks and masters showed him some of the wondrous things that could be done with the bodies energy. It didn't take look to see that Ryuku was more skilled at using internal techniques rather than external. The easiest technique to learn for Ryuku was how to sense others by their Ki, the most difficult was creating a shield around himself. The last technique he learned was Bukujutsu, the ability to fly. The Monks refrained from teaching him any attacking techniques, not because it was against their doctrine, but because they believed that despite Ryuku's skill he was still a boy, and teaching a boy something like that too early could lead to arrogance.
It was the learning of Bukujutsu that gave the Ryuku a feeling of freedom and a view of the wider world. That it extended much further than the boundaries of his mountain home. It was the first time he realized how truly small and fragile he was. He had a need to travel farther, to learn more and see what else was out there.
The Masters could sense Ryukus growing unease and yearning to leave their small monastery home. The Grand Master decided to allow Ryuku permission to go out into the world on a sacred mission, to learn what he could, acquire other techniques and find his path to Oneness and then come back and teach others as he had been taught. The Grand Master then gave Ryuku a simple string of meditation beads carved out of the obsidian colored stone of their mountain home so that he would never forget where he came from; he also gave him two small oath gems, one blue and one green. The gems would remind Ryuku of the oaths he swore, one for each gem. The blue gem was to remind Ryuku to never use what he learned and would learn for evil or personal glory, to help those that need it. The second gem, green in color, reminded him of his promise to come back and teach, to pass on what knowledge he would gain on his travels.
With the words of his oath not an hour from his lips Ryuku left his mountain home to explore and see what the world truly had to offer. He descended down the mountain path, the one he had been walking for two decades, for the last time in what he hoped would be a long time.
