The World of Dragon Ball forums are the most successful RP forums I've ever had the chance to work on. Unfortunately, with both Souls and my prior site, Resurrection, this lead to people taking and using content from the site without permission. On Souls, I am fortunate to have had a better understanding of Proboards ToS thanks to members of my team, as well as some trial and error, which has enabled me to deal with site content plagiarism. However, its a hassle--and I don't ever feel particularly good about having to send a DMCA team after people wanting to roleplay, despite any personal differences of opinion.
Souls has decent mechanics and features that aren't overbearing or complicated. They contribute to a fun narrative sandbox for stories to play out on. I can understand why people would want to use them, and I'm not entirely against that. I'd prefer for other sites to use new systems and mechanics, ones that are dissimilar to World of Dragon Ball--Kizuki's DRAGON BALL ULTIMATE is a good example--but I don't just want WoDB to grow, I want DBZ RP as a whole to grow.
So, if you're tempted to use or modify content from World of Dragon Ball, I have two simple rules: contact me (and CC in the other admins) for permission, and add an attribution disclaimer on the pages with the content, with a link back to Souls (and, soon, Turbo).
If I find a site has taken content without permission, I will communicate with the root admin of said forum and ask that the content gain attributions, and also that Souls/Turbo gains a stickied advertisement within the ad board or appropriate board. Failing that, I will ask that the content is removed within 48 hours, and further still I will then engage with the Proboards DMCA team with links and photographic evidence. In two out of two instances of plagiarism, this has worked, with the content either being removed or the site being taken offline by Proboards.
Again, I'd like to reiterate: it is better for both Souls and the other party for the other party to use distinctive systems. It offers players a new choice and might attract new RPers to DBZ, meaning everyone wins in the long run. If you do want to use WoDB systems, however: ask us, and attribute. Simple.Thank you.
