The Warrior's Respite, A large, imposing structure built upon the highest plateau within the Quiet Plains. It was the pride of the Warrior Caste, or atleast its Leader, Rhytid. His own watch tower, a symbol of order and vigilance for Namek, a place riddled with uncertainties and false peace.Rhytid stood stoically ontop of his Lookout, gazing out onto the vast horizon and plains below him. The wind blew with loud, high-pitched hisses, rustling the Namekian's Gi and scarf. Arms crossed, a stern gaze, and silence. Nothing more, nothing less. Many thoughts were on the Namekian's mind, yet at the same time, his mind was also empty. The peace and quiet his own home gave him was soothing, to say the least- but could Rhytid truly relax, feeling such distrust for the Saiyans?
Well...no.Ever since the death of Gaivahros, Rhytid realized the error in his ways. The errors in his body, his strength. He was unable to protect even one person...How could he ever protect an entire planet? ''Those Saiyans...Those Super Saiyans...How could I ever...?'' The Warrior muttered to himself silently, gazing down at his hand. He was so weak compared to the Saiyans, even their lackeys proved too powerful. How would he ever be able to defend this place against coming dangers?
Thoughts flashed back to when he was first faced with the death of his friend. Throughout all the swirling emotions, he hadn't noticed it- felt it, but in hindsight...Rhytid tapped into a great power in that moment. Not enough to even hope to challenge a Super Saiyan, but if he could learn to tap into that state at will, and nourish it's strength...Perhaps-Perhaps he stood a chance. His hand clenched into a tight fist, the subtlest of grins crossing his face. ''Bulim.'' He stated the name aloud. His mentor, closest ally, and who he even considered his father. With his decades of experience, of knowledge, hopefully he knew more about this state, and could help the Warrior in attaining it once more.
Rhytid cherished that small amount of confidence he held, perhaps there was hope after all.It was time for him to break the mould.
'Knock knock knock knock...!'The repetitive taps on the wooden door halted as an elderly groan came from the other side. ''Mmh? What is it?'' Bulim's voice resonated through the closed walls. Not taking a moment to hesitate, Rhytid gripped the doorknob and opened the door, stepping inside.
''Ahh, Rhytid! I figured it was you-'' The pudgy Warrior-sage smiled heartily, looking up from a small, dated book that rested on the table he sat at. ''...Athora never bothers to knock.'' An awkward pause fell between the two, yet it was quickly broken by a slight chuckle. ''Tell me about it.'' Rhytid let out with a small sigh, stepping further into the room. The Warrior's eyes fell on the small, yet thick book Bulim was reading, written in Namekian. ''What are you reading?'' Rhytid asked curiously.
''Oh, this?'' Bulim lifted the book off of the table a few inches, before shrugging lightly. ''Gardening tips and tricks.'' The elder let out, not showing any emotion whatsoever. Rhytid raised a brow amusedly, realizing Bulim was probably not showing any emotion to look as confident as possible. ''Gardening?'' Rhytid taunted, crossing his arms with an amused smirk. ''The great and powerful Bulim, renowned Warrior-Sage of our Caste, interested in flowers!'' He couldn't hold in his laughter, yet Bulim didn't seem as amused. The book closed with a mighty slam, and Bulim stood up proudly! ''Cut me some slack, boy! You should be happy I'm not meddling in our Caste's affairs any more, you'd be unneeded!'' The Elder's pride never ceased to amaze Rhytid. He couldn't really blame the old man, though, it must be tough having to deal with the fact that your age was starting to leave you in the dust...
''Besides...I'm getting old, Rhytid, I can have hobbies...'' Bulim sighed out, sitting back down with a small groan. ''It was only a joke, you know that right?'' Rhytid said back, a slight hint of concern in his voice. In the back of his mind, Rhytid felt a bit rushed, not really in the mood for more small talk than necessary. As he opened his mouth, though, Bulim interrupted. ''Mmhh, right, right...I apologize. Anywho, my boy, what is it you came to me for?'' He asked with a small sigh, looking up from his book curiously.A moment of silence washed over the two as Rhytid let out a small puff of air from his nose. The Warrior's eyes closed momentarily, his expression growing stern and serious. ''During the Saiyan invasion, I managed to attain a state of power I had never experienced before...When I held Gaivahros' dead body in my arms, when I looked at his face...It...'' Rhytid's voice grew silent as he thought back- the memories still haunted his subconscious, shrouded his mind in guilt and anger.''It triggered something.''The confusion and desperation was clear in his tone. Bulim hummed understandably, standing up from his seat and walking over to one of the room's windows. ''Emotions are a powerful thing, Rhytid. They can make us achieve great things, but when uncontrolled...'' Bulim paused, stern eyes gazing over his shoulder and directly at Rhytid. ''They can lead us down a path of chaos.''
Bulim fully turned to face the Warrior, his expression more serious than before. ''Have you been able to tap into that state since then?'' He asked, Rhytid quickly shaking his head in reply. ''No...That's why I need your help, Bulim.'' Rhytid paused briefly, gazing down at the palms of his hands. ''I can't protect Namek like this...I must learn how to tap into that state, only then can I defend our planet!'' The Warrior's voice raised slightly, the concern he felt weighing down heavy on him. A bead of sweat already ran down Rhytid's forehead, the pressure paralyzing him completely.''...I understand.'' Bulim spoke with closed eyes. Opening them once more, the Elder walked toward Rhytid, gazing up at him with an inspirational gaze. ''Come, you have much to learn.'' Walking straight past Rhytid without even waiting for a responde, Bulim exited the room and took a sharp turn toward the right. Rhytid was still shocked from the sudden pressure he felt, but his adoptive father's words helped greatly. The Warrior inhaled slowly, gathering the courage within him, before exiting behind Bulim.
''...Thank you.''Minutes had passed, and the Warrior's Respite had grown quiet, devoid of life.
That is...If you didn't check the basement.''30 times Earth's gravity should do.'' Bulim let out with a shrug, letting go of the control panel. A constant, mechanical hum droned through the vast basement of Rhytid's lookout. The entire reinforced basement was coated in a dark red light, a sign of danger to anyone that was inexperienced with intensified gravity. Which, speaking of...''Are you sure you can take this kind of pressure, Bulim?'' Rhytid couldn't help himself but ask. Despite being an experienced Warrior, Bulim was still an elderly man. Yet the shorter elder simply let out a loud laugh, ''HA!'' it echoed through the room, and a taunting glare was sent toward Rhytid. ''Speak for yourself, boy, I barely even feel anything!'' The Elder let out vigorously, casually walking to the center of the room without so much a care.
Despite not really wanting to believe it, Rhytid had to admit- his old man was way more experienced with gravity than he was...He was so calm, so unaffected! And here Rhytid was, feeling like he was holding up the weight of the entire Respite up with every step he took! The Warrior tried his damn hardest to appear as if he could handle it easily, but the sweat was already forming on his forehead, and his muscles were already quivering...''Come on now, Rhytid, aren't going to let your old man beat you now, will you?'' Bulim shouted over towards Rhytid, already having cleared the distance toward the room's centre. Rhytid only looked away for a few seconds, how did he...? No, no, he couldn't appear weak, especially not infront of his own father. The Warrior shook his head, and forced a confident grin. ''You know the anwser to that one.'' Rhytid replied back with a small pant, increasing his pace until he finally met up with Bulim.
''Good, good. Now, let's get right down to business, shall we?'' Bulim placed his hands behind his back and gazed up at Rhytid with a raised brow. Rhytid nodded in response, straightening his stance, focussing on the weight his body held. ''Ofcourse, what did you have in mind?'' Rhytid asked, his face stern with focus- the gravity only continued to take its toll on the Warrior's body.Bulim grew silent for that moment, fully aware that Rhytid was not going to like what the Elder's plan was for his training. ''Rhytid...For you to tap into that state again, you must feel what you felt back then.'' Bulim's voice turned into a low, concerned murmur.''That rage, that guilt, that despair...You must feel it all again.''Rhytid let out a low grumble. The Warrior fell silent, an empty glare lowering itself to the ground. He simply stared, all focus on the gravity lost...If this is truly what it took, then- ''...Very well.'' Rhytid let out hesitantly. Did he really have another choice? He'd simply have to face it, accept it. ''You must learn to overpower your emotions once they begin to fester, only then can you attain clarity.'' It seems Rhytid was right in approaching Bulim for help, his words held wisdom only contested by the Guru of Namek himself. Rhytid now truly realized that this had to be done.''I understand...If this is what it'll take, then-'' His voice still hesitated, though. ''So be it.'' Rhytid nodded with determination, earning a proud smirk from Bulim. ''Good...Let us begin.'' The Elder took a few steps away from Rhytid, then gestured toward him. ''Sit down, boy, clear your mind.''
Rhytid complied without hesitation, immediately lowering his body and sitting on the cold, empty floor. The Namekian's legs were crossed, his hands linked together by the fingertips over his lap. Slowly, he breathed in, drowning out the noises that surrounded him. Bulim's breathing, the occasional creaks of the building, and finally, the constant whirr of the Gravity Enhancer.
Meditations like these were a common practice in the Warrior Caste, with every Namekian born into the Caste going through mandatory teachings on how to meditate, and how to attain a clear mind. Bulim could easily tell that Rhytid had cleared his, as his form was remarkably still, almost as if he had turned into a statue.''Focus only on my voice.'' Bulim spoke, ''Let it be the only thing that guides your thoughts.''The Warrior didn't make the conscious effort to obey the elder's orders, it simply...Happened. No visible response came from Rhytid, though. Yet with Bulim's age and experience, it was easy for the elder Warrior to tell if Rhytid was listening or not. Bulim nodded to himself, before continuing. ''Imagine yourself on that battlefield once more. The concern of feeling the people of Namek depend on you, the weight it had on your shoulders...'' Bulim continued, again not getting any response from Rhytid. Mentally, though, the Warrior felt the pressure swell in his mind, the weight falling onto his very soul.''You felt confident, didn't you? For but a moment, you believed no one would fall. You let your own pride cloud your actions.'' Bulim pushed Rhytid more and more, put even more pressure onto his mind. While he didn't like it, he had no choice. Bulim couldn't let his personal bias shine through, he HAD to make Rhytid feel this anger.
Rhytid's face still remained stern, unwavering even with all this building anger, all this guilt he felt...He focused his breathing once again, his muscles twitching slightly.''But someone did fall. Despite what you believed, Gaivahros was murdered in cold blood.'' The Elder snarled judgementally, as if it was all Rhytid's fault.
Rhytid's face cracked, lips curling downwards in hatred. Muscles twitched once more, small licks of white, misty Ki starting to swirl from the ground up. Small specks of higher power started to show, gaining a look of interest from Bulim. Was this the power Rhytid had managed to attain...? All it took was a little more.''Yet it was you that allowed your focus to falter. Your pride distracted you. You were too late to protect Gaivahros.''A thick silence fell between the two, only the sparks of Rhytid's unstable energy crackling between them.''It was your fault. You let him die, you failed him.''
Rhytid's mind faded into a hatred-filled haze, the sound of his own heartbeat echoing through his ears.In an instant, his eyes opened, glowing with a bright white light, wide with anger-''SILENCE!'' Rhytid roared, utilizing immense speed to suddenly stand right infront of Bulim, a palm crackling with energy pointed right at the Elder's face. Bulim fell silent for a moment, seeing the sheer anger and guilt in Rhytid's eyes. His glowing eyes glistened, like sunlight reflecting off of water- only then did he notice the tears being lifted up by Rhytid's own aura. The snarl on his face...This was it.Instead of stepping back, Bulim leaned close to Rhytid's face, bumping his own forehead into Rhytid's with a heavy smack. ''Rhytid, listen to me! You MUST keep control! Overpower your hatred, fight your guilt!'' Bulim roared into the face of his own adoptive son. Seeing him so enraged hurt the elder greatly, but if he didn't act now- this could turn ugly!
Rhytid let out a plethora of hate-filled grunts and breaths, the palm he held out starting to quake hesitantly. ''G-gh...I...Rr-gh...'' Rhytid's mouth opened, taking in deep breaths of air. Bulim wrapped a hand around Rhytid's head and gripped the back of it tightly, putting more pressure into the headbutt the two were locked in. ''Rhytid...You are stronger than this. Fight it.''
Everything fell silent. Slowly, Rhytid's hand fell downward, the Ki that lingered onto his palm dropped. Only the sound of Rhytid's roaring aura whizzed through the room as he simply...Accepted it. Bulim let go of Rhytid, and watched him climb to his feet, as if he was lost in thought.
''This...Is reality.'' Rhytid spoke, gazing down at his hands as they clenched into tight fists. ''...Everything you said was true.''
''We all make mistakes, Rhytid. That's what makes us us.''Rhytid closed his eyes and took in a deep breath of air. The Warrior's aura dropped, and as his eyes opened, they were normal once more. ''I understand now, Bulim.'' Rhytid's expression was exhausted, defeated- yet grateful. Sheer hatred directed at the SSE alone would not help him, it would not help anyone. He had to accept it, and move on.
''Accept this pain, Rhytid, but do not let it control you.'' Bulim gazed into the eyes of the person he watched grow up all of those years, before he continued. ''Let it guide you.'' He spoke with narrowed eyes.''Whenever you need this power, think back to the pain you felt that day, think of it as the push you need.'' Bulim explained, placing his hands behind his back again. ''This is why I needed you to accept it, so you could use it to benefit you.''
Rhytid nodded in understanding, taking Bulim's advice to heart. His eyes closed momentarily, thinking back to the gruesome death of Gaivahros again. His heartbeat intensified, feeling the guilt rise again- yet now, he took control of it. In an instant, Rhytid's aura blasted to life, a rampant white. Eyes glowed mystically, as if he was a higher being. Finally, Rhytid had attained Clarity once more.''You have great potential, boy. Never forget that.'' Bulim smiled proudly as Rhytid returned to his base state once more. ''Thank you- Bulim...I...Really don't know how to ever repay you.'' Rhytid returned the smile, grateful of everything his adoptive father had done for him.
But a sudden laugh came from Bulim, who slowly turned around, before glancing at Rhytid over his shoulder.''Well, you COULD help me set up my garden...!''
