Hadron had been nervous the entire day. Despite none of the scientists making notice of today being his birthday, not even Mother, Hadron knew that they would have been preparing something special for him, or perhaps that was only wishful thinking.
The day had gone normally, checkups on his status had been performed, calibrations on the Mantra Core had been done, as well as the usual neurological examination. When it was time for Hadron's combat training, however, Hadron was stopped by Mother, who simply told Hadron to follow her back to his room.
"You've been anxious for today, haven't you, Hadron?" She asked in her calm, motherly voice, sitting down on his bed and motioning for Hadron to do the same.
"Yes. I'll admit, a birthday present for a machine like me seems unfitting, yet, I hoped I would get something. Perhaps it's just my merging with the human culture you exposed me to." He said to Mother, looking away as he spoke, in a quieter tone than usual.
"Hadron, you are the lab's prime creation. You are our child. What parent wouldn't give their children a present? Come with me." She said as she got up from her seat, and beckoned Hadron to follow her as she left the room and began navigating around the lab, going through hallways Hadron had never been allowed into. They soon stopped in a large room, covered in consoles and blinking lights, as well as a large circular object built into the wall on the middle. As the scientists noticed Hadron entering the room, they all lined up in front of him and Mother, with the Head Scientist in the middle.
"Hadron." The Head Scientist began speaking as Mother joined his side. "It's a special day today. For all of us. Granted, we've been only testing you and your skills for a year, which by scientific standards, isn't too long. However, you aren't just a scientific endeavour. You are our child." As he said this, all other scientists nodded. "And they say, if you love your child, you let them see the world." As he said this, a smile creeped on his face as half of the scientists broke off from the row to operate their individual consoles and mechanisms.
"As your birthday present, we're letting you get out there, into the real world. Though, of course, we'll keep monitoring you and keeping contact. We can't just let our child be overwhelmed by the world without offering them help." As he talked, he put a hand on Hadron's shoulder.
Hadron hadn't noticed it, but he had been smiling back the entire time. "I... I'm not sure what to say. I... Thank you. To all of you." He said, reffering to the entire staff, to which they each gave him a reassuring nod. The Head Scientist began speaking once more. "Though, we only ask you one thing in return." He then tapped Hadron's chest, referring to his Mantra Core. "The piece of technology inside of you, it's our greatest invention, and you along with it. You're both built to gain more power with the more battle experience you have, so you wouldn't stay behind other non-synthetic Ki-users. So, we ask you that you build up your power. Nurture that Core into an engine of power, and release it, for a good cause. That is all we ask of you."
Hadron nodded. It's not like he could go against the wishes of his creators, but he nodded of his own volition. To make the world a better place with this sort of power, it would make him happy Soon after, jets of steam began shooting out of edges of the large circular object, and it began sliding into the wall as beams of sunlight poured into the room, forcing Hadron to cover his eyes. It was his first time ever seeing sunlight, and it marked the start of a new chapter of his life. As he began walking towards the outside, Mother stopped him, holding a up white jacket with golden trims to him. "Y'know, if you don't want people to freak out, you should probably cover yourself up." She said, giving Hadron a warm smile. Hadron looked down to his body, noticing his marking, which pulsed with energy, and his metallic plates, with his lower body covered by a pair of pants and shoes, but his upper body left completely bare.
Hadron nodded, and took the jacket. It fit surprisingly well to his body, but then again, it was probably specifically tailored with him in mind. Mother gave him one final hug, and he wordlessly walked through the opening to the outside as the scientists bid him farewell. Soon after, the gate behind him closed, and he found himself in one of the many great plains of Planet Earth.
Adventure was out there, he simply had to go after it.
