"Not exactly that," Pieter replied when Mattenes repeated back what Pieter said, or what he heard, "A couple of individuals by the name of Oguma Inugami and Tsumuri Takeda turned the tournament up on its head, when I tried to start an exhibition match... But that's not important! What is important is paying attention to your-"Mattenes realized too late that he was burning his fish! "Fish... Gah..."The indigenous saiyan pulled the body of his fish off the branch he had and hoisted the last fish onto it through stabbing. He then brought it up to the stand, moving Mattenes's burnt fish outta the way of the fire. He told Matteness, "You have to keep track of your food when it's over something as hot as this! Even when it comes to grilling up berries or stewing all sorts of wild plants together. If you got a knife or something, carve off the good meat and the bones, while tossing the bad parts into the fire. It'll help cook this guy nicely. We'll use the bones, fish heads, and fins to cook up a nutritious stew with boiling river water. A large body like what these suckers have been swimming in'll have some germs and stuff you don't want sneaking into your body, even if you're a hearty saiyan!"He'd turn the fish once to the other side right after his brief explanation. First and foremost, if Mattenes was going to be learning from Pieter, he was going to have to learn how to cook whatever he can get his hands on! Pieter was giving him a freebee with the first fish, and was sure not going to let him have this one he was cooking. ( Mattenes)

Mattenes nodded, accepting the mild chastising for burning the food he was specifically told to be careful and attentive with. [So it's like cooking berries, you have to be very careful and rotate it like you have to stir the jam. Okay, I think I sort of got it.] He thought to himself, looking at the fish. Instead of going absentmindedly he looked over the fish to see if there was good meat. He reached into his pocket, fishing out a flat stone in a knife blade shape. he pressed his index against the flat of the blade and lined it up with the burnt charred flesh. He felt a bit odd skinning it now that he was looking closely at it, but he took a second to relax. [It's just like peeling a potato.] He slid the makeshift knife into the burnt inedible portion of the meat and cleaved it off, throwing the charred bad meat into the fire carefully to add fuel. Now there was a little slightly hot meat inside, that may need to be cooked just a tiny bit longer. He looked back, holding the fish up and reaching back to feel for a stick, he grabbed one, and pulled it to the side of the fire away from Pieter's meal, but close enough for the stick to catch fire. This was something he learned to do to skewer more heavy vegetables. He hoped it worked in this case too, he let the stick burn just a little longer before blowing out the fire, the stick hot and flame hardened. He tucked the giant fish stick between his legs at the handle, so he had his hands free.
He took his stone tool and flicked the surface across the wood to make a point. There. No infected materials and it was sharp. Matt sheered some meat, then skewered it on the stick, like a vegetable kebab he'd eaten commonly back home, but now with meat. To get another chance at cooking the remaining good flesh without worrying about ruining every bit of it. He watched Pieter cook the fish. Noting when he turned it, and what the meat looked like when he did. He held the bit of meat he had left to the fire, trying not to get in Pieter's way. This time focusing too much on the fish that he was turning it a little too much, it was not getting cooked quick enough, but he was learning. He held the skewer and looked it over "Ah- I think I got it???" he asked, not super confident

Mattenes got the idea, despite looking as though he wasn't particularly fond of the meat he was shearing. However, he did appear familiar with cooking things on an open fire, using a smaller branch to cook the small bit of meat that was still salvageable. He even seared the end beforehand just to make sure it was wasn't going to carry anything before the point! Pieter rotated the fish he had, the scales upon it becoming flakey in the heat after a few minutes of silence. Mattenes put his food on his stick and was rotating it quickly. After a couple of minutes, he took it off the fire and asked if it was done. Pieter rotated his fish once more before going over to Mattenes's skewered fish. Since it was the meat itself, it didn't take much to cook it. Pieter stated, "It looks good to me. However, a surefire way to make sure it really is done is very lightly brown it, if you're not sure. Now, for the remains that aren't fish bone, toss it into the fire and I'll show you when these big guys get done cooking. Right now, it's not done yet! However, its scales are becoming flakey, meaning that meat is nearly done! It just needs one more rotation."( Mattenes)

Holding the stick up so he could see it better, he checked the color, noting it was close enough. He nods to himself as in affirmation "Alright, then I think it's done" He opened his mouth and took a bite of the fish. Oh lord the flavor was great! He took a moment to savor the flavor before swallowing "Wow, that tastes great- I kinda regret not trying to fish back on my planet!" He chuckles and flicks off the remains of the fish that weren't bone. Noting some spots where he could have peeled off the meat a bit better, a little self-reflection on his attempt. "So, do you cook all meat like this? Or is it any different with land animals?" He asks, looking about the now flaking fish with an odd divergence in conception as his family was fishlike, but he'd known that most fish both on this planet and his own- were near mindless. He didn't entirely know how to feel about that, but that's thoughts for nighttime stargazing. not when he had to pay attention. He centered his focus back on Pieter and the fish, getting a bit better at pulling his attention back when he goes off topic in his mind.

Pieter smiled and nodded in approval, as Mattenes touched, visually scanned, and tasted the fish to confirm it was ready! He stood up from his kneeling position and pulled his fish off the fire. He asked if this was how animals could be cooked or if there were different ways. As he rapidly shaved the flaking scales off his fish, he told Mattenes, "There are many different formats for cooking different plants and animals! Some are a lot more finicky than others, particularly those who have 'whiter' meat, like birds and pigs because of how their bodies process things... Now, while I sit and eat this, we're going to get you started on learning how to properly use your energy to fly!"The native ripped a large chunk off the fish and gnashed it down. As he did, he muttered, "Firsly, we godda she wha you ca do. Sho me how you for a ehery all!"( Mattenes)

Matt took near minutes to figure out what Pieter was saying with his last sentence. [Ehery all? Sho- Show... Show him how I... Form? A Ehery all? Oh! Energy ball!] He snaps his fingers along with the moment the little light bulb in his head lit brightly. "Yes, sir!" He smiles, facing the side so he could see, but away from where he'd be facing Pieter- worried if anything went wrong he'd accidentally piss off his new mentor. He put his palm up and shut his eyes tight. Trying to do what he'd been doing for his improvised flight, but trying to form it solid and naturally. His energy was still mainly erratic. What began to gather were small light specks, like the glistening from the horizon of the sea and sky at a sunset. Though it wasn't a ball yet.
Opening his eyes and noticing it wasn't working he tried to pull his energy into the specks forcibly to make a ball instead of letting it naturally come, and it seemed like he was pulling small bits of the flaring energy of his into his palm. A dull green ball of energy began to form over the sparkling specks. [Cmon, just like the flight...] As the ball became slowly more opaque, and it began to glow a problem arose. The more energy he just seemed to shove into it rather than letting it gather naturally the more the ball began to bulge and bubble in some spots, even spiking in some locations. [Oh no, hold on I can still keep it together!] He tried compressing it and- no that was the final straw for the composition of the energy ball. The sound that came from his hands sounded akin to a shotgun blast, as the energy ball- due to the instincts he had he sent the ball away from his body into the thicket splitting into multiple tinier balls of energy which eventually dispersed further into specks of light that eventually faded. the impact knocked Matt right on his butt. He expected to feel a searing pain in his arm, but surprisingly there was no intense pain awaiting for him. He opened his eyes wide, and looked to Pieter "What happened??? I was doing the same thing and I tried to keep it from popping, but it popped anyways."

Matt took a few to figure out what Pieter stated, a confused stare on his face. Pieter would've stated it again, but the kid figured that out. He got right to it and turned to the side, trying to focus it in his reaching palm. Upon the focusing, the way his energy gathered had been tiny little specks being smooshed into the ball to create something that ought to combust any second! Dull green and incapable of letting it just settle calmly. It was reflective of his anxious nature. It was even written on his face when he realized what was going on and tried to compress it! Pieter, meanwhile, simply took a bite of his fish after swallowing the last bit and let nature take its course, as Mattenes needed to learn from failure. He'd explain it afterwards, but Mattenes needed to learn about his energy a bit more! In a similar fashion to being launched back with a gun that had heavy kickback, Mattenes fell backwards! He chewed and swallowed, so he could explain clearly. "Well, you were made yourself anxious," Pieter explained, "And rather than take a more constructive approach, you tried to hide it away by compressing it. The energy we summon forth is our spirit, or seishin. Other names are ki, chi, chakra, etcetera and so on. It is what we are truly feeling, and what we saw here in your energy ball is that your are anxious and you don't know how to keep calm. The ball's color was dull and opaque, but that was only because you're just trying to form an energy ball... Here, look at this one."Pieter draped the stick with the fish upon his shoulder to free up his hand. He immediately formed an energy ball, its color being an intense yellow, while inside of the ball was a bright white. It'd been the size of a basketball and, just like one, Pieter spun the ball into the air and landed it on the tip of his index finger! He explained, "Your energy is nothing but a natural system in your body! It allows you to perform actions that you normally wouldn't be able to do, like being able to lift a fully grown Tyrannosaurus over your head with only one hand, hold a waterfall at bay, or anything, really!"The native caught the ball in hand and dissipated it into dust afterwards and resumed eating. He told Mattenes, "Gef a hol off yo enerphy. Be famerear wif ih."( Mattenes)

Matt looked at his hands as he was having this being explained to him. With him talking about being anxious and nervous- he realized that his hands were shaking. He hadn't taken the time to really mellow out it seems. And with the explanation that his power, was his ki. Himself. It clicked. That burning feeling wasn't his Saiyan blood itself, it'd been his energy. And he'd been suppressing it for years, to the point where now it was literally harming him because he was backed up, suppressed, and nervous/guilty. This was what was wrong. Why he kept damaging himself. He was treating his energy like it was separate from himself. Like it was a foreign entity that was imposed on him. Pushing aside the dark connotations this had, he stood up. Looking at his hand and clenching his fist. [It isn't my blood that helped me calm Nabel. It was me.] With that he stood up. Deciding to try to calm himself. Trying to feel the well of energy he'd been suppressing.
That small flame. The small flame of his energy, compact, strained and self-damaging. The dam that he held back, he tried envisioning himself pulling his back from the dam wall. thinking [This is a part of me. That means it's not going to hurt my family.] The dam began to crack. The aforementioned Fire that was suppressed in his gut began to flicker with a gaining strength. His aura became easily visible. It was jagged, and spiking out. Like it was still trying to escape. There was still hesitation. If he were standing in front of the dam. He had a hand on the wall. The last vestiges of his hesitation. Slowly dwindling as he let his palm leave the wall. Water began to spring forth from the cracks. His Aura beginning to settle, and even grow in strength. becoming brighter instead of a dull color. [It's going to be okay.] He repeated to himself Pulling his thumb and pinkie from the dam wall. His Aura only grew in strength and steadied further [It's going to be okay.] He pulled his ring finger and middle finger away. Water beginning to pour down the dam as the cracks became holes. Threatening to wash him away. If this didn't go well. he wanted his last thought to be good. He remembered a moment where he and his childhood friend were sitting on a fallen tree log, eating whole onions together. And finally, let go of the dam.
Matt on the outside felt his power spring forth, the burning sensation had dissipated into a gentle warmth. His aura causing the grass around him to billow in an outward direction to him. His aura finally flowing normally. He'd been scared the last second. but. This. This feeling. It was. It was himself. He held out his palm outward again. closing his eyes. It was a little hard to get his bearing in the flowing stream the dam bursting left him in. [Naturally. Let it form.] He relaxed his body. the gentle specks of light gathered to his palm. He didnt try to force it. It will be a ball. He waited longer. and focused. An Energy ball began to form. Now white in the center, green on the outside. With those flecks of light dancing around the ball. He'd done it. somewhat. It was still just a tad bit unstable. and as he opened his eyes and smiled. he turned his head to Pieter and excitedly called out "I did it!-" BOOM! Welp He forgot to pay attention. The second he felt his body shift his expression went to surprise, and he was knocked horizontally. to the ground "Oof!" the ball fired into the thicket again. dissipating incredibly quickly once Matt's control left it.

It seemed Mattenes got the idea upon the visual and started to form another ball. The same thing happened as before. Energy creeped from around him as he focused, it becoming much more calmer. However, the wisps of energetic light around the orb told Pieter that he was being too extravagant with his energy! The moment he called out about doing it, it blew up in his face. Pieter stared stone panned a Mattenes after gulping the fish meat down, telling him, "This was much more stable this time, but it blew up in your face still. There is a reason that happened! However, what do you think happened this time around?"( Mattenes)

Matt looked to Pieter and crossed his arms, concentrating on the moment. "I looked to you... and lost my focus. Then.... the ball was too much for me to hold without focusing? I... I think I got it? It blew up cause I didn't have the focus to keep it controlled." He sat up, then just stood up. brushing the dirt off his leafy shirt, which was nigh dead due to how long he'd been using it. "I think... I could make one using less energy. If I do that, then it won't launch or blow up when I look away from it. right?" He asked, scratching at the back of his neck again.

"You're right, there," Pieter replied, "But, before you verbalized that you looked up to me, to show that you had it under control, you also had been giving it an 'extravagant' appearance. It was plenty bright, the out rim of color visible, but this time around, you also had the energy of yours dancing around the ball in wisps! This is telling me you were going to go for my attention. Keep this in mind if you ever wanna do party tricks for kids who've yet to learn how use energy!"He wanted to try again with only a little energy this time around, not wanting to be blown up again. Pieter nodded with another bite, simply raising his chin up to say, 'Yes, go ahead,' to Matt. ( Mattenes)

Matt took the information to heart, though still with his limited knowledge of his energy he was uncertain if he was trying to go for his attention, or maybe it was a deep need in himself to show off his now united self. He wasn't bisecting himself between body and spirit anymore. Though in a sense, that could still be seen as trying to get his attention anyhow. He stood firm now. Getting a little bit of a hang on his energy. He opened his fist into an open palm now. Focusing on it. [Just enough. Just enough] The specks of light gathered, small in numbers. and immediately a small green ball formed. The specks of light disappearing into the ball this time. Actually contributing to it now. It was a solid ball- well... Sort of. He wasn't pumping enough ki into the ball to keep it stable. It waned, starting to fade. In a panic, he was about to send more energy into it. However remembering the last two attempts he paused. letting it dissipate. He tried once more [Cmon, there's a middle between those two. Not enough, too much. I need Just enough.] The specks gathered even quicker and dissolved into the ball quicker. The ball was finally solid, opaque, and simple. It took a lot of focus to get it to just right. at first, when it formed he thought it'd be even harder to keep in line, but expending more effort to make it consistent made it so he didn't have to expend more energy to control it. He held the ball in his hand, just staring at it. [Dont celebrate, don't celebrate. not just yet.] He turned his body to Pieter. Holding the ball up, so in case he lost control it would fire up. Though- even now while his attention was back to Pieter, he had control. The ball was good, although just a simple energy ball. "I-I think I got it, Right?" He asked Pieter, asking for a second opinion.

Pieter went to finish his fish, seeing as Mattenes silently was trying to do it with Pieter's approval. He was being overly cautious now, the energy very see through, despite it being stable enough. The hunter wanted to tell him the purpose of the energy ball, about how it'd been a tool with all sorts of purposes! However, he first needed to let Mattenes form it correctly. Eventually, the kid got it to a solid form and asked Pieter if he got it. To that, Pieter asked, putting the stick with now only a skeleton, head, and fins to the side, "Maybe. How does the energy feel to you, in this state it's in?"This was how Pieter had to learn it from his fellow tribesmen and father. He had to recognize this natural feeling, this stability, and then he'd have to translate it into other means! While Pieter only learned to sense energy a few years ago, he was going to get Mattenes to recognize his own energy and let it feel the differences between him and all the others in the wild! That was imperative nowadays! ( Mattenes)

Matt looked back to the energy ball, trying to look at it to see how it was, though it was evident real quick he wasnt gonna feel it by sight. [Right- hold on.] He thought to himself, closing his eyes and focusing on his self. Feeling his ki again "It's... There, it's not... unstable, or weak." He took a deep breath. and started to play around with the ball of energy now. Trying to feel out the limits. The energy ball began to grow stronger, but it grew more unstable, though unlike both first and second attempt it wasn't like he was cramming energy in, it was slowly gaining strength. He took a deep breath and as it began to stutter and spike out, he exhaled. and with it, the ball dipped in strength. going back to its normal range, and then slowly dimming from too little ki. [That's the highest, and...] The ball had become translucent enough to where the specks joined to the ball began to disperse. Pouring ki back into the ball it grew back to strength. He was getting used to the range of his ki ball. "It feels stable... now. Yeah! right about here's good." he said, with gaining confidence in his abilities.

Pieter nodded his head, when Mattenes stated about whether it felt stable or not, before confirming that it was. He interpreted to Mattnes, "I want you to recall this feeling for your next little bit of training, regarding your flying abilities! Stability is very important and will be the tool to helping you how to fly SAFELY."The half breed stood up and levitated off the ground a bit, going right over the campfire and landing slightly in between Mattenes and the fire. He pointed at the smoke, stating, "Your training will be maintaining flight above this without doing the following: One, you will not explode yourself into the air, two, you will not destroy the campfire, 3, you will maintain this flight until the fish bones, heads, and fins are boiled!"There'd been no pot or anything in sight for Pieter to put the bones, lets alone the water into! Yet, he'd been talking about it as if he was actually going to boil them. A smile formed on Pieter's face as he put his hands and fingers splayed and over each other! He did have a plan... But Mattenes wasn't going to like it! ( Mattenes)
