”You misunderstand. My plans concerned what I was to do to get back in power, not what I was to do after. That isn’t to say that I haven’t planned for it— on the contrary, I’ve done quite a lot of planning, plotting, machinating and such. “ It was a legitimate question regardless, however. ”However, with what I am to do after becoming Empress once again… I’m sure my plans are much like yours: retake the Arcosian worlds and drive out the Mammalian Menace, with or without Earthling assistance. “ She looked up, so as to symbolise the stars, but there was a roof in the way. ”I may also be able to garner assistance with the Konatsians and their Royal Guard, if need be.” Onto the next order of business. ”Koldar is a military man, he wasn’t made for ruling much more than soldiers. I’m sure he became Emperor not because he desired it but because he believed it was his duty to save Arcose with his leadership, which I can respect— indeed, I took no enjoyment out of the position myself. But he is less an Emperor and more a dictator— and by this I mean the classical definition of ‘dictator’, which isn’t nearly as negatively connoted— in that he has no claim or right but has done so in Arcose’s time of need. No, I won’t kill him, and I doubt he’d refuse either of us if we demanded the throne. Koldar seems to believe the fabrication that I am responsible for Arcose’s fall, so I shall clear my name, perhaps by retaking a planet or two, then I shall become Empress when I am wanted to become Empress.”
She gave this some more thought. That wasn’t to say that she hadn’t already thought these thoughts a thousand times already. ”… Although, if need be, I am willing to use force for the good of Arcose.” She took a look at the saccharinely colored sushi with a complex facial expression that most closely resembled disgust. Letting go of the sushi, she grasped it telekinetically and rotated it around a few times. Imagine how offended this fish would have been if it knew what its flesh was used for… to have its entire life lead up to being dressed up in a silly dye in a fake alien restaurant. ”As, I am sure, you are as well.”
Then came the asininity of many aspects of Earthling culture. ”Speak for yourself, Retsu. I’ve made sure to keep many advisors from across the galaxy— not to advise me, as such, but so that I know what life is like for the downtrodden.” She drew attention to the sushi with her eye movements. ”But, even so, I would much rather be without happiness than without standards.”
Arcose was both unforgiving and welcoming, harsh yet hospitable. It all depended on where one was: within the artificially ‘hospitable’ zones, or not. ”I didn’t grow up on Arcose, but that’s beside the point. From our perspectives, yes, there isn’t any part of Arcose that isn’t home. If you were to drop a Saiyan in the ice-fields, however… I’m not sure if their lungs will burst before they suffocate, but they’re dead meat.” Literally.
”Yes, I am known for my high standards.” She said this, in disgust, as she watched Retsu managing to enjoy the edible food-like substance. She was going to make a comment regarding Retsu’s standards (or lack thereof) when it came to food, but refrained.
When the prospect of an arranged marriage came up, Wyntre sighed. ”You misunderstand, Retsu. That was not a recommendation, but a dismissal of the concept. Perhaps I shouldn’t have mentioned it at all, yes? Besides, as I said, I have very high standards… standards you do not meet.” This was not meant to offend, but she wouldn’t have been surprised if it offended him anyway.
Ah, democracy. The greatest mistake ever made.
That wasn’t to say it couldn’t work. It could work, hypothetically, if everyone and everything with suffrage made politically literate decisions and could not be swayed by rhetoric or appeals to emotion, but even then it was questionable (and, even then, only in a truly direct democracy). If voters decided who would lead them… ”Yes, I concur. Democracy is a nice idea, but entirely impractical.” There’s a good reason why many democracies voted to abolish their democracies.
