Botany walked along the landing platform of the space station as he patrolled. All he could hear from outside his helmet was the boom of his boots hitting the metal. He was surrounded by vacuum so, of course, sound was not made by anything else. Instead of going made of boredom, he was listening to what the other patrollers were talking about over communications, giving his input as he was apart of the station.
"I'm just saying, the civil war ain't a concern out here. Even if we were defeated by the Acrosian cunt, we wouldn't be anywhere close to the front lines. We are logistical crew. If anything, we would just become a refueling point for his forces." Botany snarled at the statement the Brenchian on the other side had made. He thought differently from the space Australian and intended on making that clear. "Ah yes, because the Acrosian definitely trusts us after we gave him the middle finger. What makes you think he will keep us here and not station his own trusted men? We certainly haven't shown any loyalty." Botany had reached the edge of the metal floor and began to turn back around to backtrack, as he was still patrolling as he spoke. "If he moves you to the front, that is your problem. I can easily pose as one of the logistics officers to land a spot with little fighting. You can't. You have that big purple gun strapped to your arm." He scoffed at what he said. Botany was not one to shy away from combat. The fact that the red alien had brought up lying to get out of fighting was enough to make him angry. "It is the people like you who- huh?"
He couldn't finish his spiteful retort before his scouter went haywire. Looking toward where the power spike was coming from, he saw the light of the stars and station light reflect on silver metal pods. Each one had a soldier inside. He didn't need to see their uniforms to know who they responded to and what they were there for.
"Contact off of the starboard landing pad! I'm seeing at least fifty pods in counting. If you are going to pose, Sesame, then at least make yourself useful and tell the others that the invaders are here!" He heard a gripe from the man, but nothing more. The other patrollers were already on their way towards Botany to assist in the defense. The pods were far out, but it wouldn't take long for them to get in range. Botany didn't plan on starting the fight directly at the station either. He got a running start and jumped off the platform. Holding his blaster forward, he flew towards the pods. His helmet allowed him to breathe in space, so he wasn't going to not take advantage of that. He turned his head and saw the four other patrolmen, with the Brenchian being excluded, and nodded in approval.
As soon as the first pod was in range, he stopped flying forward and used his beam rifle technique. The soldiers in the pods hadn't gotten the memo that they were being attacked yet as it seemed to Botany, but he was about to change that. The pod exploded as the purple beam struck it. Whoever was inside was now dead. Turning to his next target, he fired another direct hit. He saw other streaks of purple and knew that his allies were picking up on his strategy. He noticed that the pods all opened up as the soldiers tried to get out. Botany kept firing at the still moving pods, only stopping to evade a ki blast a soldier managed to let loose to try to catch him off guard. Upon turning to respond, it was then that the battle had started. The attacking soldiers, from what he saw, were trying to surround him. This worried him as he wasn't exactly the best fighter. Their uniforms matched the assault squad from before, black and red with white outlining, and their demeanor was very similar. Each had a cocky smile on their face at the sight of their numbers. He had the urge to put a bit more red in their uniforms for this.
His back pressed against something and when he turned around to see what it was, he saw that it was his allies pressing their backs against each other. Turning back around, he readied his beam rifle to fight and smiled with confidence.
They all shot out at once, from what he could tell. He charged a soldier directly in front of him as a form of challenge. The attacker tried to throw a ki blast point blank but Botany weaved around to get behind him, firing his own beam rifle shot into his back and killing the trooper. He then got to see that the rest of the guard was joining the fight. It was all out combat on a massive level as stray beams and blasts soared around soldiers fighting on another in a giant mob. Another soldier tried to jump him, but he caught him just in time and dodged before putting a basic shot into the back of the alien's skull. This wasn't a beam rifle move but rather a yellow blast. Another was flying at him and he assumed it was doing the same thing. However, when Botany dodged again, the armored warrior didn't stop. He then noticed the hole in his armor and looked to see who caused the damage. He saw that high command was in the center of the fight. The Ringo that was his commander was taking on three men at once while his officers defended him. Botany spotted a purple alien attempting to sneak up on him and took action. Flying forward, he passed right over his commander and was right on top of the snake. Cupping both hands, he performed a sledgehammer technique on the surprised soldier. It was his first melee hit and it felt good. The skull caved in on the assaulter and he flew downwards, disappearing in the action. He spun around to face his superiors and caught the corpse of a friendly officer. Looking at him, he recognized the dead man as Captain Presto. He looked for the killer and laid eyes on a big blue Humanoid with yellow hair taking on the higher ups. Angered at the man's kill, he fired a beam rifle shot at the perpetrator. It didn't kill him, but it threw him off guard and gave the Ringo commander the opportunity to pull a double galick cannon on him and send him away.
"Sir! Captian Presto is dead!" He had to tell the higher up that his third in command was dead. No doubt a replacement was needed.
"Congratulations then! You're a captain now! Now keep fighting!" The Ringo didn't seem to care at the moment at the loss of a high ranking member. Botany gave him the benefit of the doubt because they were in the middle of a heated battle for survival. Hissing over every death in battle would severely weaken effectiveness and morale.
Botany, now Captain Botany, was taken back by this. He was shocked by how quickly the transition was from being some grunt to now an officer. He didn't have time to sit there and think about it, however, as his scouter was picking up incoming ships. His morale renewed, he launched after the reinforcements and out of the crowd. He wanted to be the first and last thing this new small group was going to see. He then froze at what his scouter was saying the power level of the lead pod had. It stopped before him and opened up. Coming out slowly, a green Acrosian came forth in his second form. His eyes widened and his mouth stood agape at the sight and time seemed to slow down for him. The noble wasn't predicted to show up until later, adding to his stunning entrance. The battle seemed to stop as everyone got the reading on their scouters. The superior seemed not enjoy the attention he was getting, but rather annoyed.
"What are you looking at?" The question was phrased to intimidate the person it was directed to. Which it was successful at.
Botany knew the question was directed toward him. He stuttered when he responded from fear. Not only was the noble's power so much higher than him, but his attacks would have done nothing if he tried anything.
"Uh, nothing.....sir." His tone was quick and under stress.
"Hm. Well, he certainly can recognize his place. Captain. Status report." His tone was dry and without empathy. Botany had never seen an Acrosian before, but he knew how cruel they could be. Rumors had it that they could wipe out entire species without caring.
Botany had the urge to respond, since he was a captain now, but stopped short as an Other-Worlder flew forward to tell the man directly.
"We had the fight under control, sir. I hadn't received word that you were coming yourself, I thought you were spearheading your own attack, sir." Botany could tell the large Humanoid was uneased by his presence. He shared the opposing officer's feelings. If the lord was here that meant his station's brief fight for independence was over.
"Under control, captain? We both seem to be suffering from the same communication issues. I hadn't heard that you had it under the 'control' you say you do. Half of your men are floating corps while only a third of theirs is dead. This is definitely not what I would call under control." The Acrosian had a bit of snark in his voice. But Botany knew that it was common for them to have egos from their power.
"You. Soldier. What rank are you and would you call this situation under control?" The Acrosian's eyes focused on Botany. He replied sharply to try to be respectful. And not die.
"Captain, sir. And I wouldn't, sir." His arms snapped to his sides in military formality.
"A captain? Good. We need a new one." The officer under the Acrosian seemed to become very fearful at what his superior had said. He stumbled and stuttered for words to try to prolong the inevitable. His eyes widened as his body jerked back slightly in panic.
"Wait, sir- Ack!" The noble didn't even look at him as he extended his closest hand and shot a death beam right through his chest. The commander's eyes went white as life left his body, blood spurting out of his mouth and fresh chest wound. Botany reared backward in shock at the unexpected turn of events. His upper torso twisted backward so that his right shoulder was farther back than his left. His left fist unraveled and shot up in front as if he was bracing for something. His eyes widened at the sight of the betrayal.
"Hm. We can work on that power level later. Take over and prove to me that you are worth your rank. Round up the insubordinate soldiers and decide the punishment for them. I'll watch over." The Acrosian had used the green scouter that was on his face to read Botany and didn't seem too impressed. Botany retained his composer and nodded. He was contempt with not dying, so he didn't find an excuse to use.
"Ye-yes sir!" Botany spun around and looked at the cluster of soldiers, both friend and foe, before locking eyes with the Ringo from before. His former commander didn't look at him with malice like others would. While he did have some form of jealousy, he wasn't an unfair commander from what Botany could tell. He was satisfied that he was to decide what was to happen and not the noble's men. Unlike them, he would be merciful to his allies. However, he was going to give that Brenchian what he rightfully deserved. He took a sharp breath before making his first command as captain.
