The sky overhead cracked and roared with the spilling energy of a battle unseen. Thunder and lightning lashed at the dry air, chasing away whoever remained in the capitol as it devolved into a battleground for the gods. Even the light of the sun itself seemed to pale in comparison to the glow that came from the grandiose structures in the distance.
It was all the more reason that the red-skinned woman needed to get away. With white hair plastered to her face and horns with sweat, she pushed herself along the empty path of stone through the ruined, hollowed-out buildings. One hand guided her along as it hugged the wall, and the other held tightly to the oversized stone club that was her only means of defending herself. As testament to that, a sparse trail of her unconscious kinsmen littered the ground behind her, dealt with out of fear and desperation.
Rosemary was beginning to understand bits and pieces of her predicament. It wasn't only her body, but everything felt much heavier now, so much so that she'd injured her shoulder when she'd first tried to swing her club. The air, even, was heavier! Her tail struggled to hold itself upright behind her, and every step she took pounded against the ground. More than any of that, however, was the instinctive fear that drove her to get away from the mountainous powers that were at war with one another. She didn't know how such things could have existed, but the very fact that they did left her more frightened than she could ever remember.
Eventually, after what had felt like days' worth of walking somehow done in only minutes, she came to the very edge of the city, and her heart sank. Rather than the grassy plains she was expecting, only desert and wastes stared back at her. If it were any other time, she might've wondered what had happened. Where were the open plains? Why was a city this large built in a desert? How was it even thriving? Most important of all...
Was this even Sadala?
The mentally and physically exhausted woman dropped her club, and fell to her knees. Her mouth hung agape, with no rhyme or reason behind her own sheer lack of direction. The warm, coarse sand scratched at her legs, and her tail brushed through it absentmindedly on its way into her lap. Even the echoes of the very battle she was trying to escape fell on deaf ears.
However, a deep, rumbling growl pulled the woman up from her hopeless depression. At first, she reached for her club, ready to defend herself against whatever manner of beast this world was about to throw at her. Her fingers never did reach the cloth-wrapped handle of the weapon, though, as her black eyes widened at the sight of... whatever it was she was looking at.
Just a few feet away, it growled at her with unending tenacity; a red beast of polished stone and leather, balanced atop two black wheels and emitting a stench the likes she had never known. She should've been frightened. She should've readied herself to fight, but she couldn't. All she could do was stare in wonder and curiosity, as her body moved without order until her hand settled on the beast's back. When it did not reach back or attempt to attack her, her fingers traveled up to its arms... No, her fingers reached for one of its antlers, and she grinned like a child with her new toy.
Then, the beast roared, loudly and ferociously, just as her hand had come to the end of its antler. The red-skinned woman jumped back as though she'd been bitten, but inevitably found herself drawn back to the... whatever it was. Swiftly, she swung her leg over its back, and grabbed ahold of its antlers, prepared for it to buck and try to throw her off. The beast did roar, but made no attempt to remove her from its back.
For a moment, she stayed absolutely still, feeling its extraordinarily rapid and strong heart beat. The rumbling almost tickled her legs, then traveled up... and up... and up, until it reached her core and became pleasant. A small, anxious giggle escaped her grinning lips, and the beast roared again. For whatever reason, being on the beast's back felt... right. She couldn't think of how to explain it, but then again, did she really need to?
Without warning, a loud crack of thunder reminded her of what had brought her to the outskirts of the city in the first place. The stench of gods still loomed behind her, casting her in a shadow which she must escape. Without thinking, she pushed down against the dirt beneath her feet and raised the beast off its single leg, and it roared again as she took hold of each antler. For a moment, it did nothing but roar, until her foot met its flank, and the beast lurched forward with amazing speed.
For a time, there was nothing but noise and wind. The land passed by quickly, disappearing just as soon as it'd appeared, until she saw that she was nowhere near the outskirts of the city any longer. Faster and faster, the beast sprinted with her on its back. Faster and faster, the surrounding land came and went, until there was no more land to come, and the world vanished...
